We learnt quite quickly that air cooled EV battery packs were deficient in several ways. Long been an engineering known issue. I had several triple cylinder engined motorbikes and the cylinder in the middle in these air cooled engines was oft a problem. Air cooled engines in beatles and Porsches getting thermal stress cracks between the inlet and exhaust valves too. Just amazing how long Nissan kept on with the deficient LEAF 1 and 2 basic design. Cars would Rapidgate when second chargibg on a trip ie so hot the the system would throttle to such an extent you coukd have a 4 course meal waiting for it to get enough charge. My 52 KWh Zoe would not even hit 50 KWh charging and if ambient was more than 40 C, more common with Global warming, well forget it. Problems solved with liquid colling and charge curves are twice as quick and flatter even in very hot weather.

I noticed a knocking sound when I drive a little harder and when changing gears from first to second in my Karoq 1.5 tsi (manual), and knocking sounds over bumps and the speed bump, I did a movement test but in place, is it normal for the engine to move like this and knock on the mount or should I replace it? it's a hydraulic mount. Video is on my car. Pictures are from web, new mount distance. https://photos.app.goo.gl/LkhX6nHXugVktT3Q6

The real issue here is that the big push towards electrification is happening before we have actually learned all there is to know about their varied failure modes and how to effectively repair them safely at the component level rather then complete assembly level. Governments are trying to run before they have effectively learnt to walk. There is another good garage that can work on EVs in London and they have their own YT channel and website . I have been watching their channel for a while now, and they are very impressive, but we need many more garages with their skills, and I have no doubt that we will get there eventually, but not before we will have many significant issues along the way www.ogsmechanics.com www.youtube.com/@OGSMechanics

Hello Today i did with my obd eleven transmission synchro points calibration. Superb 2021 dq381 7 speed. I did with one click app. Engine oil has 90c and i did this when i come home from 50km long trip. There was some noise from transmission (normal) when procedure starts. The gearbox light error (or something) come to the dash. After obdeleven app shows procedure complete the error was gone. All normal. Car wont go in anny gear now. So i turn engine off and back on. The car now go in D and R. BUT there is now error. ERROR/gearbox Driving in D is only available until the engine is switched off." Pleas help. That is the last scan when turn engine of and back on.

Totally agree, Found the 940 easiest car I have ever worked on. Its even better than the 850 as you can almost climb into engine bay with all the extra space. Do miss my RWD cars plus the B230ft engine was indestructable and non interference as well. Miss my turbo tank. Will get another some day but they are getting expensive and hard to find. Sold mine a few years ago as rust killed it but guy who bought it has a collection of old police cars he rents out to movie makers and needed the engine and ecu. Alasdair

Nice wheels - but I can see how they might easily get kerbed, especially on 19s!

If you do intend to get an inspection, I'd suggest one by an independent Engineer - although rather a closed stable door scenario. Would you still be able to reject after this proposed inspection?

When were the spark plugs replaced, or the air filter, or even inspected? What age of car having done how many miles?

The issue of EV repairs are where you are in the UK, & transporting EV,s to repairers / distances. If you are lucky to be near ones that can do MAJOR repairs then good. As it is just getting EV,s or PHEV,s serviced or minor work might require using Main Dealers unless you are fortunate to have independent places or you can maybe use a Mobile EV Technician.

Would touch a passive cooled LEAF Mk 1 or 2. Shame as a British made car and I wanted to be patriotic and was ready to order the 60 KWh rather than the 39 KWh one but they were not available. Good informative video but going to further damage the already shaky reputation of the first two models of the LEAFs. Zoe's active air cooling better than LEAF passive system but now, and for several years all EVs are liquid cooled. Much faster charging is result. Similar happened with air and liquid cooled ICE cars and liquid cooling was a quantum change.

I would love to keep it, but with the miles I do I can’t stomach the fuel cost. Granted, I won’t yet turn to diesel sensibility, but the petrol Octavia seemed a step in the right direction. It is a proper machine, and it’s so much easier to work on. I know the answer already, so this is more rhetorical, but why can’t they just make cars like they used to🙁 I’ll be getting one again at some point but a manual t5 is like hens teeth , so I’m bound to regret selling mine

EVs no dearer to repair for major components than ICE.

ICE cars get fuel prices displayed on Google like we have had with EVs for a while but we have no of chargers available as well.... https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1gAzXVNvgA/

Personally I would keep volvo t5 (proper volvo) but I am very biased. Drove 940s for years and absolute love them. Alas MPG was getting me down so swapped to octavia diesel. Would swap back tomorrow if I could find a decent one and the other half didnt see petrol bill. Could always get one as a summer car. Hope its something simple plus if your going for the car I would get them to do the other shock as said should be done in pairs. Alasdair

Don't trust gauges, use the fill at the same pump every time to keep the car as level as possible. Record the milage before filling and fill with the same amount or until the pump shuts off. I had a diesel Focus that showed fuel consumption and it showed an average. Same work run different traffic conditions higher consumption!

So my beloved 2.0 TSI SE L suddenly has a huge thirst. The daily commute has gone from late 40's early 50's MPG, to mid to late 20's MPG. No fault codes. Tested at garage and EGR, O2 sensor, Air Con, Secondary Air con, Evap Emissions, Catalyst heating and operation all within normal parameters. Tyre pressures all good. Brakes not binding. I haven't changed my route to work or changed my driving style. Fuel used is still Tesco Momentum from the same garage. I'm starting to think laterally, like could it be something the engine drives, like the water pump or alternator causing drag? Could the MPG-ometer be faulty? (I need to test this next fill-up.) Slightly baffled, but enjoying the challenge of a mystery fault. I'd like to find the problem now, before anything catastrophic happens. Anyone got any suggestions as to vectors of attack on the problem?

Thanks both. @Cairus Do you think it is most likely to be a fault with the main unit then?

without opening a new topic, I noticed a knocking sound when I drive a little harder and when changing gears from first to second in my Karoq 1.5 tsi (manual), and knocking sounds over bumps and the speed bump, I did a movement test but in place, is it normal for the engine to move like this and knock on the mount or should I replace it? it's a hydraulic mount. https://photos.app.goo.gl/LkhX6nHXugVktT3Q6

I am from Austria

Haha @Cairus what have you got to share!? Has this also happened to you, or are you about to tell me I’ve bought your old car?🤣
