Some people (myself being one) have difficulty processing written text and understanding what the person writing it was trying to say, it's just the way their brain is wired. When you write a big long run-on sentence with no grammar or punctuation, you're making it much, much harder for people to read it and understand what you're trying to say. My immediate reaction to what you posted above was to switch off and walk away because of the effort needed to try and figure out what you said. You've been given good advice on this thread by other posters. Start with that and report back with what you find.
  2. You need a pole about a metre in front of your bumper with strong magnets fixed to it. This could be an idea for your next mod.
  3. I think unless you have someone who's 6' 6" in the front the space would be adequate - there really isn't another car short of the 7 Series, S Class or A8 that would offer more room in the back 🙂
  4. I'm not sure bhp has a lot to do with it. I really don't feel safe in cars or bikes with low hp. If you consider the safety cross when driving, low power or in this case auto speed restriction, removes one direction of travel from me to esacape danger. I have absolutely accelerated out of danger and having a more powerful car has enabled me to do that. However, power is nothing without control, I'd support a motorcycle like license. i.e. you must be qualified to drive a car of a certain power (or power to weight to be pendantic). I'm sure many people can drive in a hideously unsafe way with 60hp and tbh I think the vast majority of stupid driving I've seen has been done in cars/vans of low to average performance.

Spark plugs haven't changed much in the last hundred years or so, you should only fit Iridium spark plugs to your new VRS and change them frequently, however brand is largely irrelevant.
  6. engine: 1.8T VRS Type: Mk1 Octavia VRS Estate Mileage:250000 Cambelt changed 3 times Manual 5 speed Gearbox oil changed X times 0 Any other major work done? Sump got cracked so replaced it and oil pump at the same time @ 180k. Other than that all still original clutch, turbo and after some surgery, the exhaust.
  7. Beaten to it! But as you can see, it’s pretty straightforward. I can’t remember which way up my filter was, but it was the original and I was careful to put the new one back in the same orientation. I’m pretty sure Bap is correct and the chap in the video had his upside down. It is. Well, the glove box is on the other side, obviously! But the filter is still behind the glove box.
  8. Just so good. Getting into an already warmed car, or if not pre warmed they are quick to heat. With the right tyres fitted and the ability to chose less power and regen braking they can drive very well on winter roads. No concerns about just doing short trips or the car sitting unused for a while as many are having with their ICE vehicles. It is just as case of being sure there is a charge in the car, and obviously they are not going to fully discharge.

Your MPG alarm must’ve been going haywire when this was created. Are you copying and pasting the same paragraph all the time btw?
  10. Here in Slovenia we have heated steering wheel listed under standard equipment. @Greezy56 was your car running? When you press it once it should pop up a notification on the left side of the digital dashboard and at the same time the climate menu should come up on the infotainment screen.

To be fair I have had the same broom for the last 20 years. Only 10 new heads and 3 handles. You go ahead and use that sump plug again and again.

I can't believe you would even ask such a question. Do you fart in a bottle and wear gloves hat and coat indoors to save putting the heating on.
  13. I came from a Volvo and the Skoda audio is very poor in comparison. Oh, the Volvo seats were much better than my Octavia’s seats also.
  14. It is 36mm but needs to have a thin wall, doesn't have to be deep either.
  15. Don't worry about rear space in a Superb. If there was one car on the market that I would recommend for leg space, it would be the Superb. If you've got 2 other child car seats in the back, then it might be a tight on width, but one on it's own will not be a problem.
  16. I managed to find my receipt and went back to ECP. They were very good. The advice was to get a new set of discs and pads and return the old ones. I went for a set of Pagid. The car is like new. The old Brembo discs had very visible and impossible to remove black deposits in patches and did not look good. I also changed my wife's Nissan Note front discs and pads last week and her discs, apart from being worn down, looked nice and silvery.

Thats how it reads to me. The wiring for the foglights is pretty straight forward after looking at wiring diagrams. I would just send message to confirm it is for Fabia 5J as the listing states from 2004, Fabia 2 started in 2007 /08

Even when the ignition is turned off there is usually a permanent live to the radio so that it can retain it's settings. It is always good practice to disconnect the battery when working on electrical, particularly electronic, components. Can you update your copy of VCDS to the latest version, which is downloadable for free from the Ros-Tech site https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/ and do another auto scan as the latest version of the software may give us more information. Are you sure that you did not change anything with VCDS when you fitted the Admundson as one of the faults in 09: Cent. Electronics is "01300 - Control Module for Navigation with CD-Rom (J401) 49-00 - No Communications" which would appear to indicate that someone has changed the radio module to include a sat-nav and the Dance does not have sat-nav.
  19. You make some good points, eg staged licences, pass the test to get access, makes total sense. Having a full bike licence, I appreciate the difference from my L--Plate days on my Kwaka 125, to my current Honda CBF1000. As you say, power is nothing without control. Lunatics and bad driving are across the board, bhp has nothing do with it. There are utter pillocks in all sorts of machinery! We need a lot more enforcement on our roads, another 100x Octi VRS. Having covered 50k in Citroen 2CV & Dyanes, I can't say that I ever felt unsafe because of the limited power. Unsafe because of the lack of crash protection most certainly, but not sub 30 bhp power reserves, Has power ever got me out of trouble? Do you know what, I can't say that it has. Defensive driving is what I practice daily. I've enjoyed big speed, but mostly, safety and defensive are my priorities. As I said, our roads down here are too busy to use power.
  20. Sounds most like a stuck open thermostat to me?

Quick update on the car, its being prepped for primer then paint. Bumpers are in primer already. So long as they don't get an urgent insurance repair in it will be done for the end of Feb.
  22. It's the perfect control of wheel that makes it so good. As long as there's a tiny bit of grip, the EV can crawl by moving the wheel VERY VERY slowly. No electronics or clutch messing up the grip, your input is directly translated to the motor which is always connected to the wheel. I have Crossclimate on my Skoda diesel because I was stuck in snow in 2017/18 winter. Although different location, the Leaf in budget summer tyres were able to slowly drive up slopes other cars cannot. Then there's idling. TeslaBjorn recently did a video showing Model 3 can maintain comfortable temperature in the car for almost 70 hours at -3c. If the car uses 0.7/hr in fuel, the Skoda Octavia can only idle 64 hours with 45 litre of fuel. Also got to remember with EV, you can turn off the car and turn back on when needing heat, whereas if you do it with ICE cars, you need to wait for engine to warm up, wasting fuel.
  23. I bought mine direct last September, but it did take an age to arrive, so Amazon would probably be the quicker option as well as safer financially. Chris

The MOT history looks good. Maybe the keeper used Skoda and had stuff done when it should be done. Personally a Skoda Dealership would be the last place i would have touch a good running or even a poorly running Twincharger. Check the Service & Warranty History and make your excuses and leave. As Journalist say when visiting a massage parlour. If the service campaign '34F7' has not been done then i would leave it as is. If the Heated Seats are outstanding i would get them done. 'Free' PS The Guides by @UrbanPanzerlike on the Spark Plug replacement will be of a great help if doing thing yourself.

Hi thanks for the reply, Car cost 6k, 1 previous owner, I'll get it over to Skoda next week and get them to check on recalls/updates. No mention of engine replacement in history. I'll check the suspension when I take delivery and I'll get some Denso's ordered. Don't worry I don't intend on messing with it much.

Hey, sorry I should have updated. I found someone in Hawkinge not far from me and it was sorted. Thanks for the reply though.
  28. Answering my own question - just received response form Skoda - no, you cannot use any other provider.
  29. As others have said Quantum is currently made by Fuchs, so good quality and price. Fuchs have not even done special brews for Qunatum, it is just re branded Fuchs product Cheers, Guy

Not going to read my Android and drive at the same time. Maybe on the driveway just to test, as you do.

biggar, in my opinion the way that you write your posts does not make it easy for people to understand what you have done. As I read it you took the Dance radio out of your Fabia and installed an Admundson. You then had a battery drain problem which you traced back to the new radio. As trickstargee said this is a known problem when fitting some radios to older cars and it requires a more modern CAN gateway fitting and coding to cure the problem. You then removed the Admundson radio and refitted the Dance. If you did not do any coding with VCDS whilst the Admundson was fitted then I can think of no reason why the Dance radio would not work when refitted the same as it did before it was removed. I assume that you disconnected the battery every time you removed and fitted a radio to prevent blowing a fuse or shorting out one of the electronic modules? I would suggest that you clear all of the fault codes and then see which ones return. On the autoscan that you posted the VCDS version is 11.11.6. The current version is 20.12 and I would suggest that you upgrade to the correct version as it includes more functionality. However if you have a pirated version of VCDS, such as can be bought from China, then you will not be able to upgrade it. Pirated versions of VCDS have been known to not work correctly and can cause problems with the coding. It is also Briskoda policy that discussions regarding pirated versions of VCDS are not allowed on the forums.

No - this is Skoda Connect Lite - an app designed for non-connected cars. Throttle Position is a bit of a gimmick. It doesn't really tell you anything. I suspect that if you looked at the data live it would give you data. I think it is meant to average you how much you use the Loud pedel, whether you are a foot flat to the floor merchant or a feather throttle stroker.
  33. Yup, had a look yesterday and there it it, looks very straightforward, great design! Thanks again folks.
  34. 5Q0411105HS coil spring 1 paint mark 1 paint mark grey blue Model data: PR-L31 Build code L31 is for OEM number 5Q0411105HS. On the gknautomotive website, Spidan 87966 is sold to replace OEM part number 5Q0411105HS. Some are standard ride height springs. There is not necessarily any pattern as you go down the list of springs. For example, L32 isn't necessarily related to L31. You might not be able to find any matching aftermarket springs to many of the OEM part numbers given above.

The full stop and capital key is on your keyboard for a reason.
  36. I have an SE-L so can comment from that perspective. The spec is good on this model - certainly more comfort focused in terms of features - e.g climate control and keyless entry + keyless ignition. The only extras on mine are quartz grey paint and the Tailgate Design Package. I have sat in a Monte Carlo in the dealership and did like it - sport interior was nice and the Exterior Design Pack adds some nice touches - particularly the full length glass roof, full LED headlights and extended glass on the boot. What it comes down to is what you value. If you want something that looks a bit more sporty, then the Monte Carlo is probably the better bet. Otherwise, the SE-L is a solid choice. The only other thing I would add is that there is nothing sporty about the way the Scala handles. It is very composed on the road but is definitely more comfort oriented. If you are looking for a car that you will enjoy driving enthusiastically, a Golf / A3 / 1 Series / A- Class might be a better choice. Just my thoughts!

I have always wondered if it was as simple as this. I am not an electrician by any means but it seemed like an easy enough job, like you said just wire the fronts into the same wire as the rears. I couldn't understand why everyone was having a hard time retrofitting front fogs. Maybe It is more complicated idk.
  38. When the coolant is on 90'c and the oil is at least got a bit of temperature in it as well, 70'c +
  39. That front splitter looks mint. did it require drilling the factory bumper or does it mount into existing holes? Just bought a 2017 spaceback myself and looking at getting myself one of those.
  40. @mrgf It is 45 years since i drove anything other than 2 pedal cars, unless they had a servo clutch and the gearboxes have done just fine. The beauty of an Automated Manual, a DSG, a CVT or an Auto, and then even more so a EV is you can do lots of miles with lots of smiles and never touch the brakes. Very handy really when you have only 1 foot and it is a left one.
  41. Interesting chart below. Same for all metals apparently.

You can get the FL fog lights on ebay and elsewhere. Your light switch has a pin for fog lights. You just need to pull a wire out to the front and connect the negative to an earth point. It gets more complicated if you want the cornering function as you need a controller.

PS Pic of car on driveway yesterday when it was -6c. Then it was positively grippy cf when the compacted snow turned to ice, then it melted slightly then froze solid. Snow is never really an issue for me, it’s the ice that makes things interesting.
  44. From when I had mine, Engine: 2.0 TDi 150 Type: Scout Mileage: 127k Cambelt/waterpump changed 1 time 6 Speed Manual 2 x Haldex oil change, Brake fluid Any other major work done? New Aircon compressor, normal servicing regimes, new battery, KESSY remotes literally ate batteries!
  45. Hi from Sydney... This is my MY15.5 Octavia RS 162 Wagon, DSG, Tech pack. Only thing I'm likely to do to it is upgrade the interior lights as i bought it as I have a baby on the way and my MK5 GTI was a manual which my wife couldn't drive (I just sold it today, so sad to say goodbye to it!). I did think about a stage 1 tune but that's a lot of power going through the front wheels. Will want new tyres on it too before the baby arrives as they're average wear but Vikings on the front and Falkens on the rear... so will replace them with something safer and better handling.... Maybe LED fog's too! Only thing I'm missing is my Apple Carplay as I'd fitted a OEM VW unit to the GTI and it was easier to use than the Columbus system in this.
  46. I would interested to know when things turn up (how long in total) and if there's any extra duty/tax you get hit with. I want to order some bits but conscious of potential courier/import tax costs may make goods twice the price given the stories already reported. I see they have changed their name too?
