  1. I'm sure you'll love the new 2L front wheel drive automatic hatchback much more than the old 2L front wheel drive automatic hatchback it replaces. Sorry couldn't resist.

I have replaced our 2015 1.2 tsi elegance with 28000 on the clock for a 2019 1.0 stzt Suzuki vitari with 4000 miles on the clock. So far so good mpg figures seem to be a lot better 50 mpg on a long run 40 local running. The 1.0 boosterjet is a peach stacks of low down torque pulls away smoothly in a high gear.luggage capacity nearly as good as the yeti. The infotainment system is more Fischer price than IBM but ok to use.Build quality is not as good as the yeti ,no rattles. The yeti has been totally reliable I just fancied a change. Many thanks too the forum contributers . Cars have certainly changed since I started driving I started of with a 1939 rover 12 with a crash gearbox and rod brakes. Thanks again to all contributers.
  3. I concur, ACC applies the brakes and the brake lights. The myth that ACC only applies the rears is just that, a myth. A pity really inasmuch as a little drag on the rears would help keep the crappy cheese based discs scrubbed up. In my opinion modern ACC has got shortcomings on trunk roads, not least the ones where the topography features a fairly flat terrain but with gentle rolling ups and downs, the motor is forever braking just before kicking down a couple of gears to run up the other side and of course, the vehicle following is perplexed by the continuous on / off braking / lights on what is a clear road.......... On the other hand, it keeps me attentive, I often will knock off the ACC whenever I anticipate an unnecessary computer controlled speed adjustment.

  5. So another update from me... Went to the Peak District this weekend - nice view, eh? Anyways, so overall I did 471 miles and heard the popping sound only once. Straight away the SOS light started flashing red, but did not get the error on the screen. Probably a few seconds later, the light went solid green again. There was an software update available, which did not provide any info of what's included. Installed it on Sunday, when we came back home as the reception was better. No new version on the infotainment, though... the same as before: Yet, today got the full experience again - a double pop and the SOS error with the error message. Did the try the fix @AndyT60 suggested and it worked, but after a couple of tries. Well, that's it from me for the moment. Thought to give you all an update.
  6. Hi folks, please forgive me if I waffle on but thought I’d create a post following an extremely positive experience with a detailer I’ve just used. Having had cars detailed previously by others and suffering a level of OCD when it comes to looking after my car, I can’t tell you how chuffed I am with Advance detail. I contacted Jon at Advance after noticing a few little bits on the car with it now being little over two years old. The car itself was owned by Auric Goldfinger, a very active member on here and it’s clearly been cherished. Over the years unavoidable minor marks have been inflicted from washing, the gloss b pillars have inevitably marked and a good general decontamination was needed after going through the dealer used car prep. The car was booked in and within a few weeks Jon was able to get me in for a silver detail which was then protected with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, something only available through the accredited network. In my opinion Jon and his colleague Luke have done a fantastic job and I hope my pictures do it justice. The paintwork looks like new, the panels feel like glass, the beading is fantastic and he’s even added Paint protection film to delicate areas. I want to make it clear I’ve not received a discount on this process and I’m in no way linked to Advance detail. I honestly think that when someone does something just right that you pay for it’s worth the recognition. If nothing else hopefully you like the pictures, if my review helps one person who’s on the fence of what to get done or where to go then that just a bonus. All the best folks.
  7. Skoda has released a new brochure for the Fabia estate mk3 Now just 3 spec levels : SE, SEL and Black Edition The Black Edition is priced between the SE and SEL Presumably because the Fabia hatch is changing to new mk4 version soon, but estate doesn’t change until 2022 https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/c55dfea3-b353-47f9-af28-743c311044a1 For completeness, there is also a July version of the hatch brochure, but everything is from stock only as it is being replaced https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/775d73bc-eb9d-4a50-911e-863d73b99333
  8. First time I've seen one of these close-up (came right to the edge of the water)
  9. Well, thank you all for the help and advice. I finally bought a Yeti from my local Skoda dealer today. 2017 SE Drive Outdoor2.0tdi 150 DSG with 24k miles and service history. It has 2 years warranty with it
  10. hopefully it will go back on short term... new cassette ordered, from Italy i think?, so i have one if needed, new chain to go with it being picked up tomorrow from Halfords......as cheap as online from elsewhere and in stock locally

    Many thanks.
  12. @sebic98 See the link to the pdf shared in the other topic - Number 4 is the control module. Each headlight has its own one. Try to swap the control module on your headlights and see is the DRL yellow on the other headlight after that. If yes, it’s from the control module and you don’t need to buy a headlight. If the same headlight still has yellow strip, it’s from the headlight itself and you need to replace it. But just in case talk to the seller to return it if it doesn’t work. Don’t buy it unless you’re sure it’s from the headlight, that’s my opinion.

...Or a nice 1.4 Greenline, in black. No-one here actually asked your budget... If you need a tight budget, reliable car, good MPG, and low insurance, (9 points? Naughty)! that may be a good choice. If you are not in a ULEZ zone, that is as any diesel will cripple you then!

    @Murdockman @ruida_silva - I agree about the DPFectomy.

Other than that they went in through the side and haven't attached the glove box properly, I'm not sure you can see much? Maybe half was an overstatement. 😀 They have disconnected or turned off the passenger airbag too.

There does seem to be an increasing incidence in the failure of what used to be assumed to be robust items that were fit to last at least 10 years, maybe it is called progress. As said already, without having actually replaced a cabin fan assembly, I'd think that it is very doable for a DIYer who has less time and associated cosmetic damage constraints than a dealership which will be working to a prepared route map and fixed labour time element, plus us DIYers don't have H&S to consider. Stiff neck muscles and extremely sore hands are part and parcel of some DIYer car activities - unfortunately.
  17. Hi Giff, welcome to the forum. A little counterintuitive, but depending on the reason why it is using so much oil, you should still do complete oil changes - if piston ring sealing is the issue, there will be significant combustion product contamination to the oil. How dark is the oil when wiped on a clean cloth?
  18. Yes....the MK3's Voice system is only marginally less useless than the MK4's so not much to choose from there. As @langers2k said, press and hold...press and hold. You also ideally need firmware version 0478 for Bolaro and Amunsden to both the internal and Android Auto voice activation to work properly.
  19. I estimate SS worth around 2-3 MPG on my 8 mile commute. Plus helping to live-up to the £30 VED band.
  20. Dubious claim for a diesel which uses very little fuel at idle (as low as 0.3l/hr for a 1.6tdi). If it was a petrol engine I would be more inclined to believe it. The taxi driver probably has no real idea if what he claims is true if he hasn't scientifically compared long term results with and without s/s under controlled conditions (similar journeys, similar conditions, routes, weather, load etc etc). Confirmation bias at play.

My car has come come back with half the dash parts not attached cos it wasn't worth putting it all back in till the replacement arrived, I think it's a time consuming job!
  22. Took you long enough 🤣😉.
  23. well a ****e night sleep where i just felt uncomfortable all night... and the alarm really didnt enthuse me to get up, but i did.. and i did well, i think. made it to the top of the hill in, i believe, a personal best inc PRs on the segment times for the hill climb so my full 16.5km route done in under 1hr 3mins. time spent on the derailleur adjustment was well worth it... probably have all my flat speed back, going by top speed on the road descent so happy days. sweating was cruel though...
  24. Just an update. I've been using the TP Link Kasa for a couple of weeks now with no issues. No signs of overheating, and it's giving me the figures I need for my expense claims.
  25. If the engine's burning that much oil, you'll probably not have this engine for long, so it probably makes little difference.
  26. Nice, thanks guys - I've seen a pair of OEM on eBay for £45 inc. postage so this seems like a good bet. Happy to pay more if it reduces hassle / regret!
  27. I grabbed mine from Kopacek but looking on eBay they aren't too bad atm: - Front (5E0075111) @ £25: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283782771035 - Rear (5E0075101) @ £19: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124039557681 Just check the part numbers are correct for your car
  28. Heated steering wheel was only standard for a few short months during early 2020, now it's part of winter pack and not standard. Heated front seats are standard however.
  29. I fitted front and rear oem ones to my car shortly after I bought it. They clip and screw into existing mounting points. It took about 20 minutes without removing the wheels (a very stubby screwdriver helped though). You'll need to figure out how to fit universal ones yourself. They're likely to be less secure and unlikely to follow the contours of the car. OEM definitely worth the extra.
  30. I saw that topic. Thank you. I will also check that.
  31. I’ve just found a topic where the author had water leak causing the DRL control unit to fail, check yours maybe as it’s much cheaper solution
  32. Both ACC and front assist put the brake lights on if they apply the brake at all.
  33. Don't see why anyone has a problem with stop-start, had it in three cars over 9 years. At traffic lights you can anticipate the traffic moving and put the car into gear - guess what, it starts. Same in stop start traffic! Can be faster away from the lights than the boy racers who have kept the car in gear slipping the clutch! Now if you chose DSG . . . . . . real drivers have manual gearboxes
  34. I'm impressed with the coverage of every piece of carpet. Time will tell obv, but it feels very sturdy. It's super easy to clean/wipe, I wish I'd had one for previous cars (rather than having to bend over awkwardly/climb into boot to hoover)
  35. I am saying that some Dealership Groups or Dealerships use 'Automatic Gearbox Specialists to contract work out to, even large ones likes Park's (Skoda) Hamilton. Not all have Master Tech's with the Qualifications or abilities. Do not let VW Group Employees tell you Clutch Slip is not an issue as it is very much a known issue as there are TPI's covering it and plenty that have needed Software Updates and even Clutch Upgrades, http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/439395-the-story-of-the-famous-dq200-clutch-slip/page/14 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/444617-7sp-dq200-dsg-failure Obvious there are very good Dealerships with great staff like the one near to me who have top Techs & yet in the group there are other Dealerships with total muppets. @logicleehas had enough experience of DQ200 DSG's with failures and might have had the same as you are experiencing.
  36. Well dilemma solved. Just put deposit on BMW 128ti. What a car and all the excitement I would ever need and the amazing positive equity in the vRS icing on the cake.

Yes - that won't help. Would try and get the best tyres you can afford. Avoid the OEM Bridgestones; would recommend either Dunlop or Michelin's
  38. They didn't take into account the so called global warming.
  39. Why is it dreaded? Given the choice I'd rather have a Euro6 CR150 than a dieselgate CR140 / CR170 model.
  40. It is super smooth but far too quiet, the sooner a decent exhaust becomes available the better!
  41. I've now done 1678 miles in my tsi dsg at an average of................................29.4mpg. Longer journey in a week or 2 so will see if it's any better then. Wouldn't swap it for a diesel though. Soooooooooooooo smooth and quiet. Maybe a bit too quiet for a sporty car?
  42. There is a temporary quick diy fix for the SOS error, turn on ignition, press the SoS button above your head, and cancel the call only when you hear the voice message giving you the option to cancel. This should lead to a reboot of your infotainment system shortly after. Happened to me a couple of times and this fixed it for a short while, at least I have my phone and music until my vin number is called in to get the software update.
  43. Thanks guys, I am leaning towards to 2.0 TSI DSG the more i look into it, the real world mpgs seem fantastic especially with the 245bhp at your toes. (i know the hybrid is the same but the weight gain and space loss concerns me a little) So unless dealer changes my mind it looks as if ill be going hyper green 2.0 tsi dsg with front winter pack, towbar prep, maybe one or two other options as much as id love a pan roof just think ill pass i seen a fair few issues with the mk3 roof and dont want the hassle even if it will be covered by warranty. Cheers again and any other opinions all welcome.
  44. 45. You quoted me then didn't? I was 100% behind stever750's comment - "The only way to tell that you're at the limit of grip is the sound of screeching tyres, as the balance and steering won't give you any clues. FWIW, I've been thinking about remapping my 245, but frankly can't be bothered, the thrill of just acceleration in a straight line soon wears off, and all you are left with is a paranoia of premature engine failure." I don't claim to be the most experienced driver on Briskoda but have owned or driven cars with over 400 bhp and many years ago motorbikes that could crack 6 seconds 0-60. Just because I draw a pension doesn't mean I'm senile. In a wider context (been there, done that) if the car you have isn't powerful/fast enough then don't waste money on tuning, just get a different car. (Or a more powerful model in the same range.) Fine if all you want to do is see what you can achieve, but in the end unless you're throwing over a ££grand at it then your money's better spent elsewhere. One learns as one grows older that purely for road use and within legal driving parameters then the set-up by manufacturers will invariably be better than whatever the amateur tuner (that's the end user, not the tuning company) thinks they can achieve. It's taken me decades to acknowledge that you don't need to have several hundred bhp, or torques, as Clarkson says, to enjoy driving legally fast on public roads. And here I mean minor A and major B roads not motorways etc. At one time we had a Citroen AX, 1100cc, 60 bhp, and a Peugeot 1.9 309GTi (widely regarded as the best, if not prettiest, of that generation of fast Peugeots) with more than twice the power at a heady 130 bhp. There were many times when I preferred the Citroen to the 309. Both could manage the back roads of north Wales and the likes of the Snake Pass between Glossop and Sheffield at illegal speeds, but when discretion was needed in some of the more challenging stretches then the Citroen was much the better car. The pleasure and skills needed when driving a car at ten tenths were and are far more rewarding and demanding than driving a car at six or seven tenths along the same road. And that holds true today, when the 130 bhp of the 309 is regarded as an average output for a family hatchback. The current comparison still holds true - we have a 75 bhp VW Up, and a 150 BHp Karoq. The Up is usually far more enjoyable over the same roads, for the same reasons. And also when compared to my previous Octavia vRS over the same roads. I agree, a surfeit of BHP comes in handy when joining motorways and some idiot thinks 35 mph is the appropriate speed to join traffic travelling at twice that, but generally for the better than average driver (isn't that all of us?) the ability to use what you've got is more important than what you've actually got. I write as someone who since the millennium had 220 bhp (and more) to use every day but for the past year just 150 bhp, and while it took some months to adjust I really don't feel the need now for the extra power. My enjoyment is seeing what I can do with what I've got. On a slightly separate note, If someone wants to drive at really high speeds then there are plenty of private racetracks for that, many offering "track days". Youtube's full of videos of people wrecking their pride and joy at the Nurburgring. At least there, they're only risking their necks rather than those of innocent road users

Send me a message, I can help with all of this. Fitted a Thinkware T700 to mine the day I got it; the power cabling is much the same as the X Series from BlackVue.
  49. I’ve put together a review of my Superb Estate over on YouTube. i don’t think that anything I say will be groundbreaking for people who come here, but you might enjoy it (or not 🙄). link is here should you want to take a look
