  1. Insurance for write off is now settled (sad day, farewell Octavia; your star shone brightly if only briefly), so deposit paid, car being prepped for collection next week. I already have a shopping basket with some Koni replacement dampers in it.
  2. New LONGBOI plates for our longboi 😄 (the 6th "character" is the South Australia government logo)
  3. Very clear sky tonight
  4. After some 8 years and 60,000 miles it was time for me and the Fabia VRS to part company. With the Focus ST3 diesel estate as my daily driver I wanted something small and nimble to have fun with at the weekends, although it still needed to be comfortable and practical. I have always been a fan of the various iterations of the Suzuki Swift Sport and even encouraged my son to buy the previous version (ZC32S for the geeks) as his first car. So I present to you the only photograph I currently have of my Suzuki Swift Sport. It's a 2019 model so 1.4 turbo (non-hybrid) and when I collected it, it was completely standard.
  5. So I collected it on Tuesday and on Friday I ordered a remap, coilovers and new wheels from CTC Performance, and also have a Pipercross air filter on the way. I intend to wait for winter to pass before deploying the suspension and wheels but hope to get the remap sorted asap. 170PS in a car weighing just 975kg should be an absolute hoot!
  6. Made some RallyFlapz to fit with the Rieger skirts... and fitted some Briskoda decals.
  7. It used to be, but McVities won their case against HMRC so there is legal precedent now.
  8. I just looooove that shade of blue! All it's missing is some Brisky badges, we all know those are the best way of adding power.
  9. The top one is a brill shot, should be on the clubhouse wall 👍
  10. Managed to catch some rugby this afternoon and a few snaps between downpours. Got lucky with a try which Ben Ridout scored in front of me! A bit muddy to say the least.
  11. Only in hot humid weather Ken, in the winter the evaporator isn't doing anything.

That is how many go and all is well if cleaned off without scoring the discs that some have which are just crap. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/477410-scored-rear-brake-discs http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/496364-rear-disc-thickness-on-a-le-15-aus-version My 15 month old Electric Corsa is driven every day but the brakes are never really used as the regen does the stopping and the e-Brake can not clean the rears as it brings the car to a dead stop if any attempt is made to pull it on. At any speed. PSA now Stellantis source rubbish components just as VW Group does. My Shogun does a few miles once or twice a week and has no rust on the discs as do any other cars i have other than VW Group ones. Only done 700 miles since cheap new discs were fitted 14 months ago and there is no rust on them.
  13. The garage is taking you for a ride, it is a big job on the 4x4 but much less dismantling on the 2wd Greenline.

I last drove my car before I started working on it last Wednesday. I have the car half in the garage on axle stands. On realising I needed to order some more parts and not needing to use the car till next week I'd decided to leave it till all the parts I needed arrived. The decision also in part to the weather turning and we've had a fair bit of snow and now rain, It's not been nice out there! Unfortunately the orientation of my garage door is in the direction of the prevailing weather! My brake disks were relativity nice and clean look how rusty they have become in a 4 days!

I guess the car is at least 6 years old, quite an old model for a franchised dealer to put on their forecourt? Either way brakes are wear and tear items. Given how recently you bought the car and the low mileage you've covered since buying it then your options are to ask Arnold Clark to replace the discs and pads for free, or given that you missed them during your pre-purchase inspection, get them replaced yourself locally.
  16. They make a huge difference. I've had spot lights on most of my cars over the years but with how pants he standard lights are on the Octavia, they were a necessity. Literally didn't feel safe driving the car at night without them.
  17. Haven't done much to the Octavia for ages, it's pretty good as it is and nothing's broken. Truth be told, it doesn't get driven all that much, I tend to use my Volvo V50 mostly which is not only my current motorsport vehicle but also a very comfortable, well equipped and convenient runabout. I found the perfect number plate to go on the V50 just before Christmas and decided the Octavia needed a new plate too. I couldn't find any VRS plates that floated my boat so looked for another one with my initials on. V500 HMM was available and being just one digit different from the Volvo's plate it would have been rude not to. Now when people walk past my house they can tut and utter harsh words about the smug **** that lives there.
  18. I’m not sure that the alarm going off once yesterday at 3pm will have messed up many peoples lives, as I’ve already said I didn’t have time yesterday, but I’m sorry that my work schedule and personal commitments have offended you. It’s also easy to be polite and helpful instead of being a ***** but hey you haven’t managed that 🤷🏻‍♂️.
  19. Or other way round! Too late to worry, the Chinese and Russian Governments already have your post recorded, but the Americans lost it when they compared to the UK copy.
  20. @AnnoyingPentium. It works, but so does wiping the inside glass with washing up liquid in water and then buffing up when dry. PS. Shaving foam works as well. Wipe on wipe off!
  21. Don't do that mate! Chinese whispers.... By the time the message gets along they'll think I have a child labour force cooking real penguins in the oven! 🤣
  22. I think you need reporting to child protection and RSCPA! 🤣
  23. Thanks for a really good information on this thread Carlston and others I am also looking for new springs and shocks to my MY16 Scout with 2.0TDI 150hp equipped with 6spd manual gearbox. With my VIN TMBLJ7NEXG0128781, I was able to identify that in front I have G09 + L31 combination of springs and shocks, and in rear 1JB + 0YC. I am happy how my front handles, so I think I will stay with the original spring hardness, but for the rear I think the original spring is too soft, rear is sagging already with minimal load. Propably will source the AN listed springs (SACHS 992 103), as my original spring is the softest of these options. My question is about the shocks, have you anybody found good aftermarket solutions for the Scout suspension? I think the original rear shock is 5E0513029C or 5E0513029D, and the front shock is 5Q0413023GB.
  24. Well if I was messing up other people's life, like having my car alarm going off because I needed to replace the fob battery, CR2025 I'd think, I would have got out earlier the next day to when it first happened and bought batteries before heading into work, it can be easy to do the right thing.
  25. I've lightened your pic up. If you look at the shape pressed into the metal it definitely looks like that clip...
  26. ^ Ah, I see the bit you mean.
  27. Jesus you don't mess about do you?
  28. I'd recommend sticking with OEM panels honestly. But someone with more experience in modifications and cars may be able to provide a better answer.
  29. I have never used them so no idea. But the Multistorey car parks will be there for long time parking on fast chargers and they are in the centre of Dundee. There are chargers at the University, Colleges, Hospitals and elsewhere that are not Dundee Council ones. Plenty charging about it is just not free or even cheap as it was to encourage EV's in Dundee.
  30. mmm that is actually a good idea, I know I can get some of that data in the Infotainment bus (for example the fan speed, probably because the original radio could had that data) but that is read only, I guess the gateway is doing some filter magic to avoid any kind of control from the Info bus. Thank you, I ll let you know.

Treat the old girl to some wheel nut caps 😂
  32. I wonder if your heater matrix is leaking ? This happened me a few years ago and I diagnosed it by bypassing it under the bonnet... It was absolutely baltic in the car so I had to wrap up but no steamy windows ...! I got a cheap matrix off Euro carparts and its still only tepid... It was a lot of stripping but thanks to this forum I managed it myself I still have only a tepid heater but I just got over myself but at least the steam isn't too bad !!
  33. 😅 This originally started off as an oil change, cam belt and water pump change last Wednesday, then the weather turned and we've had a fair bit of snow. So I decided to leave the car when I realised I also needed a new auxiliary belt pulley and also ordered a new spring for the O/S front and do it all at once. As I'm not needing to use the car every day at present Yes I agree it is good practice to do both sides with matching springs. I spent several hours online it was a right headache trawling through countless listings to find which road springs were the correct ones for my car. There is quite a variation in price, I paid almost £28 for one spring and was unsure if it was the correct one? Now I know what the correct part number is I see I could have bought one for under £17.10 ! From the same manufacturer so I've ordered a 2nd one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303720719228?epid=18034992792&hash=item46b72a637c:g:EQkAAOSw0ltfgReB My last fixed term contract ended in October and thanks to covid aerospace engineering has been on its arse and I've not worked since then so funds are getting tight!
  34. I didn't use any parts, O rings were fine & I have most sizes as spares and have a splice kit, no renewable filter just clean the gauze screen, only oil needed.

Hello and welcome to Briskoda, Lee. I loved reading your introduction. I reckon you'd get on well with @@Lee in terms of Star Wars and possibly other things. Enjoy the site and the car.
  36. Hello and welcome to Briskoda, Andy. Glad to hear you're enjoying your Superb!
  37. Ok il do it tom as it’s p****** down here at the moment. Thank you for your reply mate👍 Just been out in the car and the light didn’t come on once after 4 ignition turns!
  38. Yes. I've got a Nextbase 512gw (current version would be the 522gw) which has its own WiFi capability; I can view all the footage, delete and download from my phone via the Cam Viewer app without the need to remove the SD card
  39. I can relate to that. Our Ignis has a private plate which was on the car when we bought it. People must think we have ideas above our station as putting a plate valued at £700 on a 16 year old Suzuki must seem a tad ott. It's good to see you still have the Octavia and that you're sporting a set of big lamps on the front. Do they make much difference?
  40. Would be really interested if anyone manages to turn off the lane keep assist function by default. It takes at least 3 button presses to turn it off each time you start. It works well on the motorway, but in narrow country roads, it 'bounces' tugging the wheel from one side to the other and is pretty annoying ....
  41. Okay. If i found correctly, i have now these according to PR-codes: 5Q0511115LH coil spring PR-1JN+0YG 2 This LH variant seems to be pretty rare because i don´t find much information about these from the web... i didn´t find any dimensions, length etc... But if these two Lesjofors springs will do the job, i´ll go with those! Thanks!
  42. I wanted the Pingu penguin ones but apparently "might endanger a child by looking like a toy they can chew on". I don't think the UK will allow them in now we're un-EU-fied but I still want penguins on the bloody dash, even if I have to stick them in the oven for /2 a day a month. 😞
  43. Never had any problems fitting the '32's, everything just pop's in as normal. I agree about using good batteries. Also, if you do it when you get the heads up, it's less hassle.

That just looks like tyre degradation to be honest. They look old and weathered. The rears may look slightly better because they won't have had the same amount of stresses put through them as the fronts.
  45. ugh..... what an 'orrible night of not sleeping on spud jrs floor and in his 1400mm long bed.. but i eventually got out of there, at 625am. just in time for a run.. oh my good lord the wind was more like high velocity ice particles than air. i was also aware despite the black dark time of day, that the sky was clear, but there was a slowly approaching cloud bank that the forecast was saying is heavy rain on the way from the sth west. so i gambled but hedged it - 8k in under 45mins to get the extra distance but hopefully not be 3k from home on the 10k route when the rain got here. i got home dry other than sweat, but it was bloody baltic.

You talk too much and bring a huge amount of background noise often drowning out good suggestions in the tumult. I'm not always right because it isn't possible to be, however I do know how everything works so I can help narrow things down a bit. I never found anything I couldn't fix, except stupid of course.
  48. Hi all, Just to say thank you and in particular happy new year 2022 @pab567 for all the help he brings here, it is precious the free and friendly sharing 😊
  49. Yeah you can defiantly enable and disable auto locking on OBDELEVEN as well as the chirp.
  50. Chirp would need to be done via VCDS or obdeleven I believe. . As for self locking, if you don't open the door within a minute of unlocking the car it should relock its self.
