  1. I'd've thought they'd already be watercooled? Surely? Anyway, the future of cars may be a tad dimmer in the media, but that doesn't worry me unduly. Not really a 'car fan' in terms of getting excited about them, personally. Car forums may carry on; there'll just be a bifurcation of those into 'CDs' and those into 'vinyl', I expect. Hopefully without pointless arguing about which is 'best'. Forums where there are large numbers of non-electric car owners may even get busier as those cars mature and need more problem solving effort to keep them running well.
  2. Nail on the head! The reason my family isn't 2 EV's is because I'm not spending £45k just to have a long range car parked up on the driveway to be used for a few long journey and occasionally commuting (WFH most days now). I have an older Octavia because its depreciation is very low and I don't trust UK's public charging infrastructure. Last time I needed charging, someone sat on Morrison's rapid for over 1 hour, near my destination where I spent an hour. Plan B Electric Highway chargers were offline. Plan C Shell charger had a Renault van on slow AC and said he'll be there for another hour. Plan D Shell charger doesn't appear on their official app, and had to phone to get a charge started. Milton Keynes is great, I wouldn't hesitate driving my EV there. I also happily drive towards Braintree and surrounding area thanks to the Gridserve charging forecourt. I would NOT dream of driving anywhere else outside my home range in any EV's other than Tesla. When I first got my EV in 2017, it wasn't like this. 2 rapid chargers were plenty. Now, single or dual charger locations are pretty much useless, liable to queuing or out of service. At no point in early 1900's people thought "I know, I'll put a single petrol pump unattended, somewhere random." I don't understand why it's okay now. Sorry for the rant.

I read this forum to see people posting their delivery times, changes in spec and everything else. Complaining about the same thing for 20 pages doesn't help anyone, it's the same thing over and over again.
  5. Hi kind regards from Poland. Superb 2.0 TDI 200HP Colour : Imperial Violet Equip: Style + all other possible options (excluding leather and 19 inch alloys). My second Superb
  6. Well, the power steering fluid was never flushed or changed. It also made the loud pump very quiet now. It used to make a weird buzz, I don't know how to explain.
  7. I did... and it did. And today, after 3 months and almost 1700 miles of running in, I put it into Sport and let rip for the first time on a nice quiet road. Let's just say I'm still smiling 😊.

What i noticed on mine is that from the rear doors, at least when they are open, water tends to drop about 10cm into the seat on that side on a flat surface, or right in the middle of it if it's on an incline. Caught me by surprise as in 2 minutes there was already a decent wet spot on that side
  10. I think it works good for what it is too.
  11. I'm very superstitious so had to say good morning to it!
  12. Right gents, that's enough of that.

Dealer just called me, the car has been produced yesterday. No options were removed - canton, camera etc all fitted. Delivery in 2-3 weeks.
  14. @TMBI think it's just a posting/quoting mistake by BlueTigger - you and others are being thanked.
  15. Colourful sunrise this morning......
  16. Regarding weight, there is a tonne (sorry!) of opportunity to improve efficiency of EV powertrain technology, so the specific outputs are likely to increase through new model evolution.
  17. It is good if true that Toyota will remanufacture cars in the UK up to 3 times. Also VW group being interested in servicing older VW group models and parts being manufactured or remanufactured / refurbished. The UK government need to assist people and companies on keeping vehicles on the road rather than having them scrapped. Out of date airbags need addressed as there are millions of cars on UK roads with these that might not work.
  18. My prediction? "They all do that sir" - that's what the majority of dealers say...
  19. EV generally are only heavier by 200 kg, if it is heavier at all. This is a good summary of current state of hydrogen, why it only makes sense for a small group of car owners

Acquired some mk6 skirts off my lad that were destined for the scrap bin, bit of fettling and some tidying up and they'll be spot on. Bit different from the normal mk5 ones that are the usual choice too.
  22. I got my vRS end of March last year. A race blue dsg petrol estate. It's had most of the 'character' software gremlins in that time. Would I buy the same car now? Probably not as i'd go for an Enyaq however, if I could have the Octavia now or a 12 month wait to save the planet i'd take the vRS. I love it.
  23. Thanks to everyone for their advice and thoughts. I hadn't realised that the tablets don't give anti-freeze properties and life's too short to spend working out whether or not I'm going to have to add anything to the washer bottle for winter protection and if so what and how much. I've got to go to Screwfix anyway so I've added 5l of Prestone to the order which is good to -10°C which should be more than sufficient down here on the South Coast. (Not as cheap as Urrell has been buying it at Tesco at just over £5 but it will probably last me the best part of 6 month so I'll not lose any sleep 😊). Thanks again.
  24. Changes to the Highway Code will come into force on 29th January. A summary of the changes can be found here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1037306/table-of-change-to-the-highway-code.pdf Most notable are the new rules H1 to H3 under the 'Hierarchy of Road Users' heading (or common sense as I like to think of it). Who on here is aware of the changes?
  25. I... err, opted for something a bit more old-school for call blocking...
  26. I have come to a solution using means of compression to 192KB/s until I can get one of those solid state kits that seem quite a popular upgrade over the hard drive.

I’m sure the reason that always been given or suggested is emissions. I also believe there is no way to change the behaviour. Unless you buy an older model. My 2017 model keeps the selected driving mode.

Sorry Mr Meldrew, I stand corrected then.
  29. I suppose it's not an unreasonable request though if it means a garage ordering parts from a supplier they don't use they might think you're being a PITA. So I guess the other option is would they mind fitting customer sourced parts? Though again then some garages then might start arguing about warranty if a part fails and they havent supplied it? I'm a tight arse and always do my own repairs and will continue to do so till I'm too old to crawl round the floor fixing cars, by which time I'll probably be no longer driving :-)

The problem with WLTP (where W is world) is the tests are at something like +23c, but UK is so far from equator that the test temperature is unrealistic From memory @roottoot is fairly far north in Scotland where the number of days where average daily temperature (day and night) where it hits +23c are probably non existent. The test for battery vehicles needs to have an alternative figure when temperature is 25-30c lower (at about -5c) so guidance on range in winter is given.
  31. Pretty sure Instavolt use Tritium and Osprey will be using the latest Tritium model at some of their new charging hubs.

I'm going to throw in a curve ball here !! I had a mk3 cavvy which had a power ariel on the back left quarter- we filled it and sprayed it leaving me with no radio I put in a Bosch Autofun (from memory) behind the rear view mirror and the reception was perfect I came across this on fleabay - which is probably a rip off version - might be worth doing or summit similar - https://www.ebay.ie/itm/CAR-INTERNAL-GLASS-WINDSCREEN-MOUNT-AMPLIFIED-AERIAL-ARIEL-ARIAL-ANTENNA-RMA819-/290546870660?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Otherwise you could be looking at replacing mast and cable along with an amplifier? Ive seen some VW group cars with a mast that has the amplifer built in with switched feed from the radio like an amp has ? Now I'm talking late 90s Audis with the beesting type ariel- A4 avant springs to mind ! I think Corsa B and Astra C had them as well ? Now this info could be classed as the ramblings of an old git who is stuck in the early 90s not realising that time has moved on but it might be useful too 😉
  33. Around 20-30mA, 0.02-0.03A I would expect, if all is well and everything is properly 'asleep'. Slightly tricky to both get the car into that state and measure the current without re-awakening it. There's a method I've described here that works, but it will be easier with two people as it's really a three-handed job: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/495243-quick-and-dirty-parasitic-current-measurement/ Keeping the red meter probe 100% connected to the battery clamp while lifting it is the tricky bit, which a 2nd person could readily assist with.
  34. WD-40 is not the best penetrating/releasing fluid (or even lubricant) - for rusty fixings perhaps Innotec Deblock Oil XS, or GT-85 which you can use as a good lubricant (it includes PTFE) and much of what WD-40 claims. Good advice about apply a good penetrating/releasing fluid and leaving to soak for as long as possible in advance of starting the work, then first try tightening the fixing a little to break the rust/crud seal before loosening, if it does not work first time just soak, leave, repeat. Best sealant I have found for coolant (and I use a coolant that finds all gaps) is (Hylomar) Hylotyte Red 100, it is semi-hardening so a fixing can be nipped up in situ if there is a small leak or weep. 6-sided sockets are better than 12-sided for loosening, ring spanners are good but ratchet (swivel head) ring spanners even better. You can also use a torch behind a straight edge to look for dips on head and block. Innotec Deblock Oil XS - https://www.innotec.eu/oth/en/products/deblock-oil-xs/p1858 GT-85 - https://gt85.co.uk/gt85-original/ HYLOTYTE® RED 100 - https://hylomar.com/en/hylotyte-red-100/
  35. Well I’m 2 weeks in with my OV plus Canton. Cat is predictably excellent and I’m loving manual gearbox shifting again. The Canton is brilliant. Significantly better than my previous Audi system. I am still playing with the settings, but it is delivering above my expectations

Update: Arranged collection of vRS iV estate for Monday. Dealer has said all ordered options fitted, waiting to see for myself

Interesting article in Autocar (link here) about Skoda sales being down globally (no shock there), the UK market seems to have been pretty stable for them in comparison to most with China seeing a massive drop. They are claiming that the production issues should start to ease in the second half of this year. Hopefully this means we will all be seeing progress, especially the people with the longest wait times on here. My dealer estimate is sometime in April, he had to basically put something on the system for the finance to be accepted etc. To his credit he has been pretty open and honest about April essentially being a shot in the dark. I'm hopeful of seeing it before August as year 4 is a large service on the Astra, so will be the guts of £500 including an MOT. (Ordered on 28th October - VRS, TSI/DSG, Race Blue, Rear Camera, Travel Assist, Rear Wiper, Winter Pack Front, Blindspot). So far with friends and family ordering cars it sounds like the majority are in a similar position, my dad has been lucky with his Kuga order it has move forward into next month from March. The rest have been the same as people on here, either told nothing or given totally fictitious delivery dates that ultimately are pushed back.
  38. I reckon I must fall into this category as my Fabia is well past its expected lifetime, at least in the eyes of a manufacturer.
  39. Splash screen is just a question of coding. Pls post VIN on PM so I can see what is the unit and let you know available options.
  40. I took one out on test last weekend, intrigued by the price, styling and standard equipment of the prestige trim stepway, and I'd say there are a lot of good things going on in those regards, was a bit anxious it would feel glacial on the move coming from a 170 diesel yeti we drove in with....and that wasn't the case either, sure its not going to tow a trailer over dartmoor with the same ease as a big turbo diesel but as a family runabout, minor roads and city work it was more than adequate But..... I found the steering over assisted and vague and the clutch was also a little fluffy in feel, overall it lacked a lot of what I've always enjoyed in smaller cars over the years, which is a very direct and engaging drive albeit driving at much lower speeds (but my first car was a classic mini and I had numerous small Italians after that) So nice enough....but not my cup of tea
  41. Regardless of the reason why you needed new wipers, that price seems rather excessive (but I guess that is a sign of the times). Everyone has their preference, but for me the Genuine ŠKODA wipers (Part No. 3V2998001) are affordable (in Australia at least) and do the job well. I would not go aftermarket, have tried and failed before... https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/skoda-front-wiper-blade-set-superb-iii
  42. Look, this is getting annoying, we're getting sidetracked by semantics here, this isn't about right and wrong, that's for vicars and tarts to figure out. Baulking going into a gear when stationary is usually caused by a dragging clutch loading the layshaft, it can be a worn linkage or it can be a faulty gearbox so work though the possible causes starting with bleeding the clutch. It's worth resetting the gear linkage and it's worth topping up the gearbox oil in case the level has dropped.

Currently on my 16” winter wheels and the ride is limousine like compared to the adequate ride on the standard 19” wheels. (But so much better than my previous previous Yetis on their 17” though!) No real noticeable difference in handling though between the 16” and the 19” with much wider tyres at comfortable road speeds in corners.
  44. More nonsense then. 🙄 As it seems that Lane discipline and driving with a phone to your ear - both easily seen by everyone apart from Plod and easily enforceable - I fail to see how or who will enforce this one 🤔
  45. Insurance for write off is now settled (sad day, farewell Octavia; your star shone brightly if only briefly), so deposit paid, car being prepped for collection next week. I already have a shopping basket with some Koni replacement dampers in it.
  46. I get this come up every few weeks. I press and hold the stereo power button to restart the system and the warning goes out afterwards everytime.
  47. @Ecomatt , @KenONeill, @PipH, @nta16, @Nogrille, @PetrolDave, @ords, M-E-R-R-Y- C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S all and many thanks for your contributions to my intermittent and head scratching problem. The main plug behind the carpet in the passenger footwell (the largest of the three) was removed to connect up the towbar loom three years ago. Apparently the holding clip was broken at the time and after three years it has jogged loose. The plug is now held in with hot glue so hopefully all will be well. What a saga!
  48. Many thanks - the colour is Artic Silver.
