  1. @maccy Really not required because the standard air intake is well above any water it would be wading in.
  2. You forgot the snorkel mate 😂
  3. So, almost 5 months into ownership, and I'm still really liking the Superb. Went down the road of lowering, with Eibach Pro-Kit, a few weeks back, and that pushed me to either buy some spacers as a temporary solution, or finally make my mind up on some wheels. Read as much as I could on sizing and offsets, but still needed to take an educated guess/leap of faith. Straying from my Japanese wheel roots, I ended up going with Judd Model One, 20x9.5 et40, in Gloss Gunmetal (would have done Brushed Titanium if they were in stock). Tyres are Michelin PS4S, 255/35r20 in size. Yes, I know that's a little larger than stock OD, but it was a deliberate choice to maintain some sidewall. No rubbing so far, thankfully. Outside pics are with the stock wheels/tyres loaded in the back, hence why it sits a little lower in those pics. Will try and get some better pics sometime over the next week or so.
  4. Water is supposed to run down inside the doors and drain out of the bottom onto the sills, most cars are like this because you cannot seal the window against water ingress where it winds down. Not everyone has a problem, my 2.0 Fabia does not wet the carpets or leak and it was built in 2001, some cars do leak but it's pretty easy to fix it permanently using a sealant on the window carrier.
  5. I found it very easy the connections, every one is tagged and labelled you can’t go wrong really,it fits perfect, as long as the correct quad lock is used, the only fault I found,I couldn’t get Apple CarPlay to work on my unit, despite trying various dongles, my latest Yeti 2016,connects to the smart link no problem, Siri, all my apps work so leaving it in, so I’ll be selling the Xtrons unit soon
  6. Yeah, I was thinking the wireless wouldn't be to great. Sounds good on paper. I plug my phone in 90% of the time in the car, so that isn't an issue. Definitely won't have a sim for the headunit. I won't be installing any extras, maybe an OBDII device. I might just take out the columbus and see what the GPS connection is and get that adapter if needed. Funny enough, I wasn't planning on spending closer to €300 on a unit, but the xtrons european site has an offer on the IQ90MTVL, so might just pick one up https://www.xtronsgermany.de/vw-skoda-seat-verschiedene-android-10-octa-core-4gb-ram-64gb-rom-ib90mtvl?find=skoda-superb-2008-7741
  7. Only had this afternoon and tomorrow free so made a start. Old engine out, interior loom tomorrow so full interior strip down
  8. For what he's using the car for it's not the right car for the job, so whatever he does is going to be nothing more than a compromise.
  9. Current map version is 22.1 (2022 January) so keep an eye out for the map version changing from whatever you have on it at the moment
  10. 14 inch wheels are as small as you can go, 256mm brakes.
  11. There is a crap piece of design involved especially on the back doors, but it's not the seals. It's the brackets that allow the locks to come out with the assembly carriers (and back in). They actively divert water onto these carriers that would otherwise drip down the middle of the door harmlessly without challenging the carrier seal. You will see watermarks like this on any carrier that is removed, much more so on the rear doors as the quarterlight helps channel it exactly onto the bracket.
  12. 👜👜Put the handbags away ladies ...😄 For further information, the wiper arm insert is an aluminium alloy of some sort. A good soaking with penetrating oil the night before, helped with the removal, the splined shaft was remarkably clean and shiny once removed all the corrosion being on the alloy component. The spindle on the car wiper shaft is steel and has a tapered spline. A new wiper arm comes with the alloy component pressed in, and the hole, surprisingly is plain, i.e. smooth. When fitting, first make sure the wiper motor is in a parked position, hold the arm firmly near the spindle end and in the correct parked position, and when you tighten the securing bolt, the spline will cut into the alloy insert for grip. The problem I found was the parking position of the rear wiper tends to vary a bit, so I had to remove the arm a few times and refit before I got a good compromise.
  13. Kharl your an absolute hard nut - Your prep is like summit out of an intercontinental challenge! I'm going to a breakers here in the next few days so I'll see whats on offer - I take it that its the centre and 2 side vents you need ? This breakers is still a traditional type - even has an alsation guard dog with a starter motor around his neck during the day so he can't attack the customers !!
  14. @davroYou have no idea how much oil was used in however long the passage of time or miles if you never checked the level at any time. You do not know that there was the correct quantity in to start with. What 'good quality' oil did you get and put in the engine?
  15. Bring back the Yeti the little G Wagen. tom
  16. The issue is that the engine oil capacity was allowed to get to 1 litre lower and there was less oil to help with cooling, then allowed to get to 1.5 litre low and still not checked and topped up, then down by 2 litres. Not checking the oil level until a warning light or message is just not simply clever. Oil might well need topping up before 10,000 miles on fixed or variable servicing and checked well within 10,000 miles.
  17. Mine's a 2012 Elegance, registered early March. CR170 DSG estate. I'm pretty sure all Elegance models had the Columbus + BT setup, but the BT setup on earlier cars doesn't play well with newer phones. If you do a search it's something that has been discussed a fair few times.
  18. It makes a good argument for us all having V8s with low development costs. The ultimate green car is a 5.7 V8 Chevy I reckon
  19. Definitely, at least my Fabia hasn't ate window regulators (yet) - I don't really use my windows so I wouldn't know if they died. Definitely, it was a good car for most of its life. I had debated making an offer on the one from AutoTrader just so I could spook my Granda a wee bit by sitting it on the driveway.
  20. At least one good thing came out of it 👍 Aww, a bit sentimental then
  21. What happened to it? EDIT: Oh, maybe serious corrosion?

Hi, I'm Rolf and new to the forum. I have my 2018 Skoda Octavia III for 2 weeks now and want to modify some stuff (leds, add DAB, some new speakers and some other small things). and want to help some people with my (little) knowledge of cars and Skoda. I added a picture of my car. Thanks for having me! Have a nice day, Rolf

Hello and welcome to the forum, Rolf!
  24. I definitely think the estate is a nicer looking car, and sure the extra room will come in handy sometimes. I had to swap out bluetooth modules as mine is a 2008 but after 2 years of a columbus I think a new headunit is a better idea
  25. Elegance spec comes with the Columbus as standard, and the Bluetooth module under the driver's seat. I've had no complaints from people about call quality in nearly 6 years of ownership. OE microphone is fitted inside the front map light console at the top of the windscreen.
  26. Phone call from dealer this afternoon car arrived at Grimsby this morning will get to them middle of next week so shouldnt be too long after that then 🤩
  27. Now adjust the position of the drivers mirror while looking at the passenger one. Then you will understand why you always seem to have to keep adjusting the passenger mirror after having done the drivers one, unless you are a Chameleon that is in which case you will already know! How stupid did I feel when I finally found out after probably 10 years 😳 I mean who looks at the passenger mirror when adjusting the drivers one! They can be coded to behave in a sensible manner using VCDS.
  28. I’m not going to drive around with low coolant or until the low level warning comes on. I’ve topped it up once and marked the tank. If it drops again I know I have a leak.

Hi I have just purchased my first Skoda. 2019 Kodiaq vrs. If possible could anyone tell me the best place near Bristol to retrofit a reversing camera. As there is not one fitted to the vehicle.
  30. 1 point
Hello and welcome to Briskoda! Unfortunately I can't help you with the reversing camera but I'm sure someone will be able to.
  31. I've join the authorities - delete your thread drift now! 😄 I'm joking, you're reinforcing the point I made, altho' I'd have went further given Kharl's other threads, there seems to me to be quite a bit of difference to Kharl's use of his Fabia to the use the all/vast majority of UK posters here which would be missed unless the video is seen - though our roads could be similar given another few years. I'm just spectating on this from now so as to keep out of trouble - hoorah they shout.
  32. That's a rather stupid design decision if that's true. PHEV should be designed to be EV first, unless it's for tax dodging purposes. Most PHEV owners I know, that bought the car themselves, would drive it in EV mode as much as possible to save fuel cost.
  33. Hello and welcome to Briskoda!
  34. Yes, I found the configurator. Have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow with a view to ordering.
  35. Big heavy car with small engine not great recipe for town driving. Hdi - isn't that a diesel? I've had 1.4tsi Octavia and also drive a 1.5tsi DSG Karoq but the 1.5tsi DSG Kodiaq is a funny beast when it comes to economy. Around town in winter will be low 30's Even on a longer run, it'll be down in the low 30's for about 20 odd miles before the economy picks up. It's rare to see it break 40mpg in winter. As a comparison, our 1.5tsi DSG Karoq spends most of it's time around town but even in winter that'll be high 30's. Summer months is different. Around town it's mid to high 30's but doesn;t take too loong to reach mid 40's on a longer run. Best I've had is 50mpg during summer. That's on a 1 year old engine. Had it serviced in November. Mpg out of the 1.4 shot up after it's first service but doesn't seem to have made a difference on 1.5tsi. Only thing I can add is given the significant price difference in buying the diesel version, the MPG isn't that much improved. It's rare my car has anyone travelling in the rear but if I had I'd have considered the 2.0tsi. I very much doubt I'd have been able to make the difference in list price up in fuel economy tho.
  36. It was them that told me to check it and gave me the oil too, I've found them to be very good.
  37. 1.5 DSG in Graphite Grey Metallic
  38. Of course, definitely 100% agree. My original post was clumsy, hopefully people now realise I'm talking about discretionary spending. Clearly if you get to benefit from the VERY generous BIK for UK company car users, it's a no brainer.
  39. £8 24 hour 5kg delivery from MyHermes!
  40. If any of you would like to know what software updates are outstanding, I'm happy to take a look if you send your VIN over. Worth knowing there's alot more software on your cars than just infotainment We can also carry the updates out for anybody local to us. However please bare in mind we can't cover the costs under your warranty so there would be a small charge (but we'd do everything that's outstanding). If you can, try your local dealer first - just be prepared for a few visits
  41. Maybe I'm cheating a little bit by including this photograph as it isn't directly a past car, per se, I think it counts though. It is, however, the exact clone of the one my Granda had from 2008 until 2020. The difference with this one is the roof bars and the last letter on the registration plate being an "O" instead of a "P". It even has the faded bumpers right! I spotted this one up for sale recently and had to double take it as I could swear our one was scrapped. Ours did meet a sad demise, however.

  43. U say DCC makes no noticeable difference, yet u notice Comfort is too wafty, Sport too harsh, hence u keep it in Normal.......
  44. I had this on mine a few weeks ago. On the old passat i used to put some sachets of silica gel on the inside of the bulb cover, seemed to help a bit.
  45. Hiya! I bought and installed the same unit (IQ90MTVL) earlier today in my Skoda Yeti. I'll share word document with photos that I created as I employed the tried and tested "trial and error" method. Documentation could have been better. 🙂 I too bought a number of accessories (GPS, front-facing camera, rear-facing camera, TPMS, DAB+), some of which I wouldn't buy again (GPS, DAB+ (doesn't work in Ireland)). Please give me a day or two to finish the document and I'll share the link to the upload site on here. Sláinte! Gaff
  46. DMF Ken... dual mass flywheel, not DPF
  47. I managed to get a friend to do the install... it was all going very well until the instruction step 15 where the wiring into the BCM starts which resulted in a lot of swearing, loads of brews and that great British not to be defeated attitude of not letting it get the better of us (well, him). Removing the trim and rear seat was very easy, the hardest part was removing the wires from BCM module C, we just couldn't do it, so in the end we decided to split into the 2 wires, not ideal but it was better than wrecking the module. The BCM is very awkward to get to as well, especially if you have fat chubby North West England hands.
