  1. Folks thought I'd share this for those of you that have had numerous issues with MK4. To put in context I bought new VRS tsi Mk4 in Dec 2020 and its been into dealers 5 times for few minor issues then most of the firmware issues discussed alot on here. I raised a complaint with Skoda UK and after fighting back and forth managed to get .. £500 in dealership spend up from their initial offer of £200 and more importantly full Skoda Warranty extended from 3 to 5 years. I couldn't put this up here until I had it all in writing but they can do it when pushed. The Warranty is extended 30 days prior to the 3 year warranty ending. Was worth the few phone calls and emails for me
  2. All right, got my Scala today - finally 😁 Will post some pics later. I'm back on work, and I'm trying to figure out how the hell do you connect your car with that MySkoda app.
  3. Well today I did a car swap with my friend and got to drive the hybriddy a bit more than I'd expected It's always nice driving something new, as the sensations are all strange to you, the steering feels different, the acceleration too as well as the noise, handling and doodads to play with. Anyhoo, I did come to a few minor conclusions about it. Firstly, it's super comfy. Almost in the way cars used to be, before the Nürburgring turned everyone's family car in into an overdamped circuit star. It is also quiet and well screwed together, which surprised me as it's a Peugeot. No insult intended, but I did sell them for a short while and they weren't the best things on the block. The economy round town is pretty good if you use the hybrid mode and seems even better if you program up the satnav as I believe it then works out where best to share it's meagre electrical resources. Also, the turning circle is amazing for an SUV, it's more like a micra in that respect, the only let-down is the steering is super light. But the weird shape of the wheel wasn't a problem and I can see over it fine, which is useful for not crashing as well as seeing the high up dashboard. It's a novel concept that seems to work reasonably well in this SUV. The charging is an odd one though. It's super slow charge rates mean even when on a 16amp supply, it takes nearly 4 hours from flat to full (I think typically at home you would rarely go from entirely flat to full so your standard 8/10amp charger would probably still do a charge in around 4 hours - the battery has a little over 10kWh that you can use out of around 13kWhs in total) and that only gives a max of 39 miles range, which at the moment in the cold weather seems like 20 miles at best and even less, as the temperature drops further. I'm not sure about the 2nd 12V battery thing though. I guess it's there for running the general electrics while the car is running in EV mode and once it drops below a certain level the car defaults back to petrol mode permanently until the 2nd battery hits a certain charge %. I think I might have seen this happen, but I can't say for certain, as I don't know what the car is thinking. Probably, familiarity over a long time would give clues to its methodology? Overall it's a nice place to spend time, comfy, quiet and in sports mode, quite brisk, which it should be for it's total of 296bhp and 383lb/ft even though it's a bit chunky in weight thanks to its battery mass - or it just eats a lot of pies when nobody is looking? I buy one I reckon and suffer the dirty looks from the EV boys and girls at the charge stations with my thickened skin.
  4. Well that’s the first part of the canton retrofit done in the rain. I’ll save the interior strip out for a drier day. I’ll do my best to take as many pictures and write a guide as I go. Not that i think anyone else would be crazy enough to carry this out.
  5. Vicar water earlier.........
  6. just collected my car, the difference is immediate, and not insignificant. Only tried it over a 7 mile trip, but over bumpy / twisty B roads and lanes. Feels more like my octavia vRS now, can push it much more on really bumpy stuff without it losing composure. I'm sure turn in is improved as well, though this could be because it just feels stiffer. It's still no sports car, but at least you'll be able to keep up with a Mondeo on the twistys. Downside is that whilst you lose the crashiness at high speed, you lose all of the serene wafting ride comfort at low speeds and on flat roads, it's constantly jiggling about. I'm OK with it, but others might not be. Unless you want to lower the ride height, then I wouldn't bother with changing the springs, you might even reduce the total levels of grip by doing so. I had to choose between this or a remap; this is cheaper especially when you factor in insurance and potential warranty costs, and is a better improvement I think overall in the driveability of the car.
  7. Me too. And the towbar, and the heating.
  8. So another Wednesday another Dunnes Stores mission - Its all a bit groundhog day until I came out and a lovely 18 Fabia was very badly parked next to me ! Well I suppose the person who done this didn't park straight for fear of association with me That color of green would suit a Mk1 vRS so well... If I were to respray mine this is the color I would paint it. Unfortunately at my age the outside patio needs to be sorted and the driveway resurfaced so thats' the respray money gone 🤔 Did anybody ever paint a Mk1 Fabia that color ?

  10. Hello, I know it's controversial but I love the PD engines, it'll be a sad day when we can't run them anymore. Just bought a 07 Fabia Vrs largely unmolested, no wide mouth, just some AP coilovers and a smoke free remap by PD Tuning. Lurked here for a while before making the leap. My last PD engine (Mk4 golf gt tdi) finally died was written off after 220k. My mechanic recommended the Fabia mk1 and now I don't think I'll look anywhere else. Thinking about a mk1 Octavia Vrs estate for work (gardener - just tools yet still a nice daily). Will probably be upgrading the performance, but nothing crazy. Love this car, miles better than the golf imo. So yeah hi all
  11. The RPM signal will be part of the CanBus signal from the ECU to the speedo so not a simple single wire like on the older cars but as said there will be a rev limiter built into the OEM ECU but it might not be at the RPM you want, so you'd have to get the ECU re-mapped to the required RPM
  12. Haven't watched it in some time. Used to watch it when Anne Robinson was presenting - I also had an English teacher that looked like a "low budget" equivalent.
  13. Can never think of Father Ted without giggling about this scene... Or this one!
  14. TV programme Watchdog used to call them ''ParcelFarce''
  15. I believe that episode of Father Ted where the priests are lost in the lingerie section was filmed in a Dunnes Stores
  16. Ok, that's more reassuring. I do an 80 mile a day commute and I don't want a rock hard ride. Happy with taught but don't want it crashing over every ripple. Thanks for the update
  17. I doubt it, and might make it worse. I read some reviews by golf gti owners, and they were worse than stock dampers. Don't forget stiffer springs are less effective on bumpy roads. If you were changing springs then the bilstein might be a better match.

On your centre display select: Vehicle > Background Lighting > Once in the Background Lighting screen, go to the drop-down menu top right and select: Manual (It comes default set to Automatic, which then links it to driving mode. Another dumb-ism of MIB III...) Once you're in Manual, you can permanently select the colour you prefer, and the brightness etc (brightness is bottom right next to the colour selection spectrum).

Hi Folks, Just joined so I thought a hello might be in order. I have a Yeti 1.6 Greenline Elegance, 2012, quite new to me, had it for about 6 months. Like the car, very comfortable compared to the quite low spec cars we've had in the past. No real problems with it, I'm just a curious sort, so I like forums. Cheers, Alan.
  20. In Greece, such a thing does not seem to happen, even immediately, because, among other things, there is strong suspicion. Where is the problem; The fact that many vehicles in the country have engines that can not handle the doubling of the ethanol content, since it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. Result, minor damage to fuel pipes, tanks, burnt head flanges, damage to metals and plastics. Especially the models with year of manufacture before 2011 are not compatible with E10. The numbers hide a hesitation in the market. Making the reduction in Greece, if we take into account the age of the cars and the non-encouraging research numbers, then the introduction of E10 gasoline in the country is a very distant scenario. https://autoagora.gr/news/data/cool-news/Poia-einai-h-Benzinh-E10-Giati-den-perpataei_210001.asp (part of the text via Google translation).
  21. Recently I created my own custom diffuser for the Scala. Main reason for this is that I bought the Maxton Design rear Valance to fit to the stock lower bumper panel, and it didn't fit flush and had an overall cheap feeling to it. Sure enough after only a week it cracked, as I had put it under so much stress trying to fit it as flush as possible. Instead of spending another 100+ on a new one I decided to approach skoda for the lower rear bumper and to my amazement the whole section was only 65GBP. So decided I would rather purchase that and the materials and have a go at making a custom one. Here is my journey. I don't have pictures of the early stages but essentially I measured out the mid section of the bumper panel between the exhaust dummy ports, I then divided this up for where I wanted the diffuser fins to be, used a depth gauge to get a profile shape onto cardboard and then cut that into shape as a template. The rest is as follows Cut fin shapes out of ABS 12mm plastic using jigsaw, then use a rasp/file/80p sandpaper to refine. The 2 center and 2 outer fins were the same shape. Using masking tape to check fitment I then pre-drilled holes for standard VAG hex screws using small spring clamps, cleaned the area with isopropanol and lined the joint with Gorilla Epoxy glue and mounted the fins into position Fin mounted using screws and epoxy All fins mounted on and panel sanded down with 180P sandpaper, waiting for a small strip of ABS to arrive to extend the bumper 3mm ABS strip arrived was cut to shape and placed to extend the bumper (purpose of this is to hide underglow LED strips as bulbs were previously visible when mounted) Using U-pol Plast-X filler to fill holes, and refine the shape. This stuff stinks! Immediately took it outside. Initial pass with filler, definitely put too much on, but learning as we go. After a lot of sanding, using 80p, 180p, 340p and 420p sandpaper Excuse the dark dots, it was raining as I got it in the car to take for priming/painting. For the final stage, I got the good fold at Berkhamsted Bodyshop to use a builder primer, do a final sand pass ready for painting and the paint it in gloss piano black. Here are the results It is not perfect, and there are things I would do better second time around of course. But it is hand done, by me, fully custom one of a kind. I love it, think it looks way better than the Maxton one. Hope you all enjoy seeing the process. Oh and I am a 3D artist in his late 30s with an interest in DIY, I am by no means skilled at this type of thing, just watched some youtube tips and tried my best. If you have the time, don't be afraid to give things a go.
  22. Cylinder misfire doesn't sound good. If you hadn't mentioned that given it's failed emissions test, I'd put money on it being an air flow sensor issue. If the readings are wrong then it could be running a rich air/fuel mixture hence the emission failure. I've just been out on a steady run today for around 40miles. It's wet, no wind, the temp around 6C, just me and about 40kg in the boot, and from a cold start, the car returned 41mpg. If this were summer I'd expect to see high 40's from my 1.5 DSG with 20" rims. I personally don't think that's great, it's certainly less than if I were driving our 1.5DSG Karoq and about 10mpg down on my previous 1.4tsi manual Octavia, but it's in line with WLTP expectations for my car. 'Horrific' is simply not a word I could ever use to describe it.
  23. Not you, a courier, try Parcelforce 48, good value for money.
  24. Worth looking at the new 2022 model VW T-Roc when available which should be in the next couple of weeks. Much improved interior and is probably closest thing to a Yeti. VW T-Cross is downgraded because of poor interior fittings, though I wonder if VW will upgrade it soon like the T-Roc and new Taigo. VW have come under an avalanche of criticism for the poor interiors of their smaller Crossovers and now seem to have got the message and are upgrading with Mk2 models.
  25. There may be light at the end of the tunnel but is it a train coming towards us?
  26. I don't always want to be the one to state the bleedin' obvious but why don't you just pay a courier to pick it up and deliver it back to you?
  27. I always fill the tank to the brim, I never know when I'll get that call and have to drive 200-250 miles at very short notice. As for topping up PHEV, I think for me, I would want one fully charged when possible. As mentioned above and also when considering my detached duty while working away from home, it would not often be easy, or even possible, to charge up the hybrididddy battery. Certainly, on my regular jobs and using my normal accommodation, I can't see an easy access charger nearby. Also, as I work 12-15 hour days on these specific jobs, charging is a total pain to consider on top of trying to find food and sleep. It's one of the reasons EVs simply wouldn't work for me. But, I've had my eyes opened a little about hybrids and perhaps this is a way forward for me. It's certainly not something that gets my blood flowing, but there again, I'm a dyed in the wool petrol head. 🏎️

No, you can still still individually change the colours of the interior LED ambient lighting, no matter the driving mode. There's a setting buried in the menus to not link it to the driving mode. The same thing happened to me when I first got my vehicle and I was cursing it, but after some patient checking through menus and sub-menus I found it could be de-linked permanently.
  29. I have to ask, do you always refuel to full tank of petrol? You do know you can stop refuel/unplug whenever suits you right? EV have charging speed tiers. Completely different mentality to "fill up petrol every week" and then car is parked for other 95% of the time. Rapid charging: 10-40min very quickly back to 80% for on-ward journey. "Fast" charging: many hours, for overnight/workplace charging. If you are on a long drive, you would never plug in PHEV during a quick comfort break. Or a quick 20min comfort break for a good and efficient EV (TM3) would see you back on the road for another 3+ hours. If it's in town, typically you'd have enough range for return trip in any BEV, you can unplug whenever you want. Eg. I drove Leaf 30 miles to work, charged up at work, 30 miles back and then 10 miles to a shopping centre (have the range for return without charging) we stayed for 2 hour and charged for free. Free charge was able to cover return trip to the shopping centre plus 50% of single leg of my commute. it was not full when I unplugged. There was no waiting around or buying things don't need.
  30. At this Charging Hub and other similar ones that are still free to charge it is happening because using Rapid Chargers is costing them nothing rather than using just fast ones and the rapids do not have a £1 a minute overstay charge after 45 or 70 minutes as it is in some Council Areas in Scotland. The Slow / Fast chargers allow a lot longer time on the chargers at a lower cost when you do have to pay. Lots of EV driving people are like ICE driving people, they know little about the vehicle they drive and could not care less as long as they get about and are doing their own thing. Many will not check tyre pressures unless there is a warning, or top up screen wash or check anything between services or MOT's. It is going to be an issue really as EV ownership increases and there is not the best of charging infrastucture that people do not bother to find out or care about not making things more awkward for others when a little consideration for others can make a big difference. More chargers for Perth's Park & Ride which is still free to charge at and abused by EV's or Hybrids that park for hours on the Rapids not of all which work all the time. .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
  31. i've got digital dash and sun roof only. which even if they said these re holding it up i'd not sacrifice either
  32. Had a call from Skoda yesterday. They have a firmware update for ACC, sat Nav and all sorts of other issues expected to release this month... Now I wait for the recall.

I’m coming from an M135i to the Octavia VRS Estate for space reasons due to a new family member. My wife and I both had new style 1 series and thought they would be plenty big but the boot space in the BMW was next to useless for pram wheels plus anything else. Maybe the wheels are too big but we have to fill the back seats if we go shopping with the baby. As soon as I tested the pram in the VRS I knew I needed one due to its endless amounts of space. I loved the M135i but the VRS ticks all the boxes for me to cover family life and still be able to have some fun.

I had a look at Hyundai N30, Focus ST, Golf GTi, BMW 135 and found all lacking in some way or another. So I went to Lookers at Peasmarsh and discussed having another RS, for the simple reason that I can't find anything that I like with the same level of equipment as my current car, for a similar price. Will be doing further discussions about an new RS on March 19th.
  35. Dangerous game isn’t it. Cars in for service today so has already done enough damage to the wallet, was easy to limit myself to the one buy haha
  36. A fiver per battery. I did something wrong when I tried to change mine recently and goosed 2 out of 3 keys See my post from Nov '21 but check the advice below that about draining the residual power before putting the new battery in.
  37. You have a sel so probably torsion beam rear axle. With the 2.0 you may have 55mm front shocks instead of 50mm like on the less powerful models. Plenty options for upgrade. If you have torsion beam you won't have a rear roll bar. Upgraded shocks and springs will do 90% of the work a roll bar would do anyway.
  38. Was your fuel light on at the time?

What is the software version after that update? Can look then to see if mine is on that one at least. it is truly horrendous and had I known some of what I’ve seen and found out about it over the past couple of days I would have seriously thought twice about changing and stopping with my previous one 😢
  40. Another one for Bosch. Never had any problems using https://www.wiperblades.co.uk/
  41. The only thing I would have considered was a Monte Carlo 1.5 Estate which would have been unique to Skoda. IMO it's a stupid decision for Skoda to drop the estate. A hatchback with option packs is just not worth it. May as well get the Polo Gti for around 26k on Carwow.
  42. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/466430-how-to-replace-the-skoda-superb-iii-key-fob-battery-correctly/
  43. I'm sure Don McLean wrote a song about such a photograph... Well, it was about Van Gogh but sureeeee...
  44. So if you want the 1.5tsi DSG and most of the packs you can end up with a £30k+ Fabia. Doesn’t make any sense as you can get virtually the same equipment (and same engine) on a Seat Arona FR sport (with the one option pack) for nearer £26k (see link for specs) and Seat offer £500 off for test drive and £1500 off for PCP so can get it for under £24k https://tools.seat.co.uk/files/live/sites/seatweb/files/assets/Pricelists/v1_cars-models-pricelist-KJ7-NA-02-2022.pdf
  45. A few from the museum of flight. Current events certainly make you look at the exhibits in a different light.
  46. Re badged the rear and fitted Maxton skirts
  47. Well I’m 2 weeks in with my OV plus Canton. Cat is predictably excellent and I’m loving manual gearbox shifting again. The Canton is brilliant. Significantly better than my previous Audi system. I am still playing with the settings, but it is delivering above my expectations
