I don't carry any spares other than the wheel and some bulbs, I haven't had a car break down since my Cavalier FWD stripped its cambelt back in the 90's and coasted to a halt ten miles from home, missus picked me up and dropped me back the next day with a new belt which I changed by the roadside and drove it home. I maintain my stuff properly and I only buy things I know will be reliable.
  2. A few from earlier................
  3. Yes, I know the driving instructor so he has been giving me guidance so I don't teach my son bad habbits from the start. It's my sons birthday today and he is in a similar position, doesn't want to go out for a drive as he has so much A level work to do. There's no rush & I'm not going to pressure him as I want him to enjoy his experience.
  4. -2*oC, not a breath of wind. car pre-heated, roads totally dry apart from black-ice in shaded bits. Heating @ 20*oC but A/C off, heated seat on and heated steering wheel on. Roof bars and bike rack off the roof, Michelin Alpin6's at 40 psi & after a few miles getting an indicated 3.1 miles / kWh. EDIT, temperature up above 10•oC and efficiency right up above 4 miles per kWh, and will be better later heading downhill more than up. Even empty the bars and bike carrier had been greatly reducing range, much more even than passengers carried.

  6. Interesting moon this evening - the entire disc is visible.
  7. Cleaned the back end up before my bumper comes back from paint, I’m fitting a gti one so it all works rear fog, twin number plate lights and the oem exhaust cutout ran into a little problem with fuel pumps as I now know the tanks are different and the pumps are held down differently screw type vrs a locking ring. As I could find any info on the pumps flow rate I’ve swapped the internals over anyway to save any future issues when it’s mapped. Just waiting on a bit off fuel pipe and I can fit it back in. you can see the difference in the head in this pic
  8. Just came across this post. I'm the proud owner of this beast! 🙂
  9. I'd wouldn't fit anything other than Febi/Bilstein or SKF. Much as it might cost £20 more, it's not a job you want to be doing twice.
  10. A year ago today I bought the car for the princely sum of £1,495... which looking back was a bargain considering the way the used car market has went.
  11. Hub flange diameter is 6mm smaller on the ones for 239mm brakes, so presumably the 'standard' 6Q0407621BR one won't fit those discs. I've only just found what's different. Please note: it's also very important that the correct tooling is used to install these bearings. Ensure that whoever is doing the job knows about "Gen2" tooling, and doesn't just press it in by the hub flange face. Damage to bearings and/or ABS faults result from failing to understand this. Repeating the job is expensive.

Please note - These are mechanics, qualified and certified to carry out MOT's with a full understanding of the specific requirements laid out in the MOT Testers Manual, He has obviously carried a spare for 21 years due to not needing it - I cannot understand the logic in the "wasted a lot" statement. I have no idea of the date of the spare in my Greenline that did not have a spare when new, only a bottle of miracle glue which I would have no faith in, so I will have purchased a wheel/tyre of suitable dimension that I periodically check the pressure of. Should I find it is loosing pressure I would get it removed/inspected and re-sealed/seated if applicable. Do you get 5 tyres fitted every time - 1 on each corner and 1 in the boot. This thread is getting stupid with too many keyboard warriors going widely off focus on the original issue.
  14. Doesn't look it but I washed it today, took about an inch of shed dust off it. Headlamp fell off but lets ignore that. It'll be going on the spyders sooner rather than later, and I think I've snagged some more parts for it aswell. Intended on getting a photo of it and the mk2 outside but I had 2 more cars to clean and it was dark by the time I got done.
  15. Couple of garden visitors this afternoon
  16. New car day 🥰 Unfortunately raining so wet drive home 😥
  17. This Cubic esim has nothing to do with car`s services. It is only and only to create hotspot in the car. All the other services - map updates, weather, gas prices etc. will reach the car via built in esim, data plan of which is covered by Skoda. If you buy Skoda Connect services (Care Connect + Infotainment online) for 73,33 eur + VAT per year, you will get all what you want. I have SIM in a slot in my car and I pay only monthly fee 1,79 euro for it. No data traffic. I do not use hotspot in my car very often. But I have purchased Skoda Connect services every year and I`ve got all - gas prices, map udates, weather etc etc.
  18. Hello all. just saved a 2007 Fabia II 1.6 16v from the scrappers. Absolutely nothing wrong with it and reminds me very much of driving a MK1 Golf GTi. Nobody told me it's an absolute beast on the twisty stuff Looking forwards to bugging you all and, given time, helping out on here! Best, Chris.
  19. Stellar answer - many thanks. I concur with your view on the MC, surely if it has the sports moniker it should really have this as standard. I will go down the spring route initially and if I get the same problems you had, will upgrade to bilsteins. if they last longer - perhaps they are upgraded as standard. will ask someone with partslink24 if they can see differing numbers for Shock absorbers dependent on model.
  20. Should have bought a later Classic, Lee. You'd have got it standard!

Hi! Just a quick hello from a new member! Just about to take delivery of a 2018 Octavia vRS TDI estate. I already have VCDS as I have an A3 so no doubt will find lots of useful things to play with!
  22. Wow, quite a trek 😁 Was worth it in the end though 👍

Thanks! Yes, love a bit of “The Blacklist”
  24. Just touching on 50 miles, Lee, located beside the racecourse in Hamilton. Involved going through East Kilbride and a matter of other places with more roundabouts per head than any other county in Scotland. On the way back down it was quite easy, M8 through Glasgow then M77 back through Ayr, much to my Mum's delight as she was driving and didn't want to be dragged through Glasgow. However, it was the best I was getting for the budget which also had to cover insurance, tax, and maintenance until I started University that September. I had £2,500 set aside, so I spent £1,495 on the car, and then the rest on keeping it running and no more.
  25. I can’t find anything - except for wipes afterwards !
  26. If you believe that you are sure of that then you should try to make your fortune as a fortune teller!
  27. Being a demi-god in that department myself, I didn't need to tick that option
  28. Loads of fun and games today. I've replaced the thermostat because the car would only get up to 60 degrees whilst driving, that's all sorted. of course the sai pump hose snapped straight away shortly followed by the dipstick tube dropping plastic shards down the tube into the sump, a great design. I've put new rubber mounts on the sai pump I've ordered a new dipstick tube which was cheap and in the uk and I've ordered new hoses for the sai pump from China because they're £13.10 instead of £60. I'll delete the sai at some point but not yet. Next weekend I'll be taking the sump off to clean the bits of dipstick out, I suppose I should price up a new oil pickup too...

So today was the 'I really must clean out the motor covers for the 1st time' All fine until the plate and 1 of the 2 screws on the front decided to disappear into frame 🤬. 6 bolts taken out, Motor dropped, plate out and re-glued to frame, all back together thankfully. The screw was the little fecker next to the pedal
  30. Other option, convert CD's to MP3. save on phone and use phones earphone output to 3.5mm aux input in centre console to play through Dance via Aux option button.
  31. 9 month report Overall, this Fabia is proving to be a resounding hit. I'd predicted that our needs would change as my wife and kids' local activities burgeoned and that has proven to be an underestimate if anything. Ongoing new duties include muddy rugby club runs, local errands and walks, plus pick-ups from school and post-work sport for my wife. It's only doing around 200 miles per month - more illustrative is the 3-4 times per week it's used. Given where we live, it doesn't bear thinking about how this sort of use would have worn-down something like my now-gone Audi S3. But of course the inevitable urban battle scars don't matter on a 5-year-old Fabia. As mentioned earlier, the Fabia is so competent that I did briefly think how it could in fact become our only car... ...before more happily using it to make the case for a new-to-me Audi RS3. 😉 This lives in a local lock-up garage, while the Fabia remains accessible on the street. City use and a dowdy colourscheme mean that it doesn't get very dirty on the outside, although I do keep it clean. Products like quick detailer keep it looking nice but I haven't given it proper detail on the outside: There's not much point going beyond this on the bodywork because it's already picked-up some marks like this, which deform the panel and won't polish out: The cabin is quite pleasant and has remained clean with some attention to remove the inevitable food packets, mud & dirt etc that a family generates: It does seem to steam up a fair old bit when cold / wet, but overall it's a very good setup considering the price. My wife also uses the Mirrorlink for giving navigation, which is again impressive for a car of this sort and age. Although (not pictured) it is worn on the driver's bolster and in places like between the seats - I actually went over this with a fabric de-bobbler, which improved things but won't work miracles. I guess it was caused by carrying something between the rear seats a lot? The back seats get a battering from our kids' in-car eating, where it's not exactly luxurious with scratchy plastics and wind-down windows... Things under the bonnet look good and the car drives very nicely now that I'm used to its DSG gearbox. I wondered whether it had a new battery before it reached me at 4 years' age, looking at how the sticker is upside down? As mentioned in my first post, I bought some original mats, door sill protectors and boot liner when the car was new to us. I added a boot net from my old S3 as well. More typically the boot looks like this, though - also being our family's welly boot store! Doing around 2,500 miles a year but with frequent short journeys means that it will need an annual oil change around June - when I'll also get the brake fluid for the first time. Cazoo (who supplied the car) offered a free service and MoT for the sub-par buying experience. I'm inclined to go with that offer rather than my preferred VAG specialist, thereby saving a few pennies for the two other vehicles in the household.
  32. That was it Chris, had 3 notifications there about not renewing "my Skoda", so it looks like it doubled it to 6, strange behaviour with this infotainment system everywhere..lol
  33. The damage was done to the battery when it was stored and allowed to go flat through self discharge. Take it back and get a refund.
  34. Hi Chris, welcome to the forum. What was the story regarding the Fabia being consigned to scrap? Enjoy.

Generally the lack of supply of new cars has pushed up price of secondhand ones, so in most cases it is sensible to settle a PCP and take ownership, even if you then sell it almost straight away to a car buying site. Try Motorway, Cazoo, We buy any car etc, compare the valuations to your balloon payment. If car is worth more than you need to pay then completely daft to just hand it back at end of PCP. Even if you don’t have sufficient savings, then plenty of cheap loans available (and often your own bank will give you a good rate). But I wouldn’t do a remortgage (even if interest rate is bit lower), because you don’t want to still be paying towards your car in 20 years time. Ideally don’t take out a loan for longer than you intend to keep car.

Never done the viswor thing, will give it a go. Post was more about that Skoda never corrected the issue in any version of the Fabia. I use dehumidifier bags anyway, always have. I had a brief period of having a company Volvo with a magic demist button. I chuckled going back to a Skoda v3 that it was still a 'feature' to clear drivers side badly.
  37. Probably my next car, the 60 kWh version. Not keen on those angled "fake" scoops at the front in bright colour. Prices are quite keen in France .... https://www.autoevolution.com/news/renault-megane-e-tech-gets-aggressive-price-in-france-undercuts-vw-id3-177096.html#:~:text=The new Megane E-Tech,with a 40 kWh battery. The new Megane E-Tech prices revealed in France show an aggressive stance against its nemesis, the VW ID.3, with a starting price of 35,200 euros ($39,440) for the 130 PS (129 HP) version with a 40 kWh battery. This figure falls to 29,200 euros ($33,000) when considering the eco bonus for electric vehicles sold in France. The price compares rather favorably with VW ID.3’s offering, which starts at 33,300 euros ($37,710) with the bonus. The German car has the benefit of a bigger battery though, at 58 kWh. Next, we have the EV60 models, with an upgraded 60 kWh battery and a 218 PS (215 HP) electric motor, which start at 34,200 euros ($38,630) with the bonus included. For comparison, an ID.3 with the same battery capacity has a less powerful motor (204 PS/201HP) and a base price of 34,900 euros ($38,400). A price of £30k would be great for the 60kWh but I suspect they will go for more like £33K and one and then might get a bit of discount after the initial launch where there will be little to no discount. I gather it is not out until Q4 or Q4 so a bit of wait to even try one. With sky high diesel and petrol prices should get a good trade in on my Zoe despite the negative safety news recently, at least my Zoe has the Emergency Braking System which seems to have dropped from the standard specs.
  38. AG- I replied in good faith as from my experience of an OLD car.
  39. Sod changing the accurate speedometer to match the one that's off. You can adjust the cars one on VCDS, or at least on older models you could.
  40. It's certainly not "mini!" anymore and I dread to think what it weighs 😞
  41. I'm simply pointing how ridiculous and irrelevant what you're saying is, you really can't stop yourself and it's not the first time either. This is not a general discussion forum about vintage cars, PSV's or HGV's, my advice is confined to Fabias only. They're not words to live by, they're words to fix your Fabia by!
  42. Guaranteed build slots aren’t a thing. Unless lots of people have been kidding me on… Swapped my Karoq edition for a new sportline kodiaq on order last week. Saved loads too. It’s a great time to do it. Meant to be being built in June and here for September too but I’m not exactly expecting that to happen with the added complexities in Russia and Ukraine. But we will see. Deal was too good to pass on.

In my case, the very fact that I get an email once a month from the dealer with an update (even though it is just to say they have no further information from last time) means that they are at least checking on orders. Yes, I see the email and my hopes are raised until I read it and then everything is dashed again, but at least I know they've still got an interest in proceedings. My dealer was upfront about delays, in fact it was the first thing they told me before we even started discussing the car and specs etc. Dealers can only pass on info they are provided by Skoda UK, and don't have any input or sway on the factory. They're as frustrated as we are and they don't get any money until the car has arrived and is about to be driven off the forecourt. What I would never do is get rid of a vehicle I am dependant on until I knew its replacement had arrived at the dealer and was ready to go.
  44. In my maxidot I do not get the same options or information as I did with the factory head unit. For the phone information all it shows is the battery level and signal level. For the audio I only get the FM frequency. For the navigation I only get the compass. As I never use the maxidot for driving info I am not bothered. As for the mph/kph if you are on about what is shown on the main home screen then you need to go into the themes app then click on the settings cog then click on plugin and you set the mph or kph there.
  45. Sounds like your sorted which is good. I'm just back from taking my daughter out to practice round a nearby trading estate that is empty at weekends. It's slow going as she's distracted by A levels at the moment but I'm sure she'll get there eventually
  46. Sometimes we all do something without thinking, and besides, every day is a learning day - or some other quote to that effect.
  47. I'm not sure if this will help you but my 2015 1.6 CR TDI was like a bag of spanners until it warmed up. This began when I bought the car at 36k miles and it was still doing it when I sold it at 200k.
