  1. Thought I would bring this old thread back up again. I've really got back into old Hifi, and have built up quiet a collection of old kit, however I do use modern speakers rather than old. Some of my equipment, in a list, will add some pictures if there is interest. Music Centre Toshiba SM3100 from around 1976 Boombox National Panasonic RS-4350LJ from the late 1970s. Reel to Reel Akai 4000DS MK2 from around 1972 CD Players Pioneer PDM-6 multidisc CD player from the mid 80s. Marantz CD65DX from the early 1990s Amplifiers Memorex (Realistic) STA-2380 from the late 1980s Marantz PM35 from the late 1980s Cassette Decks Pioneer CTS-610 from the 1990s Pioneer CTS-440S from the 1990s Yamaha KX393 from the 1990s Sony TC-RX50 from the late 1980s Marantz SD35 from the late 1980s I have a NAD one somewhere here as well. There are multiple turntables, from modern ones like my Project Debut Carbon Elite SB back to my Pioneer PL400 Direct Drive from 1976, 5 in total. Speakers, I have Cambridge Audio SX80 floorstanders on the Memorex and Monitor Audio Bronze 5 floorstanders on the Marantz. All kit in regular use except the NAD which has issues on the takeup clutch and the boombox which annoyingly needs the amp section recapping on the left channel.
  2. Last few bits are arriving, got a second hand rad pack, real lucky with this and the rad support panel just arrived. just waiting on n/s driveshaft genuine (cost a bomb) one rad pipe from water pump to rad, one connector onto charge cooler, and rad mounts top and bottom. Not much left now insurance already swapped too, insured for 6k 😂 most expensive 62plate citigo out there

not as much as a Russian shell into your apartment block though 😞
  4. Good news! Apparently "a plug" had become disconnected, and that was the issue. Guy in skoda said there is a plug which connects to the gearbox which controls the electrical functions (I personally wouldn't be familiar with it), but seemingly it became disconnected. He was quick to say his guys normally wouldn't remove it when doing the gearbox oil change, but it seems to much of coincidence to me, anyway sorted no charge.....so gotta be happy with what might have been 👍
  5. I would replace the pre-cat lambda probe if the car won't operate on closed loop properly. If it's never been replaced then it's 20 years old and not to be trusted.
  6. Karoq Bonnet gas struts fitted today but a bit of a PITA to do. Problems with my AliExpress gas strut kit. Black Bonnet extension brackets were a bit scruffy. Sharp edges & scuffed finish. I filed down the edges & gave them a lick of satin black spray paint to smarten them up. The extension bracket in my kit was beefed up compared to others I've seen - which was good. However, the two 90 deg bends that strengthen the bracket are too close to re-use the white OEM bonnet bracket nut - bad. I had to use the smaller nut that came in the kit & use the white OEM nut to attach the top gas strut connector. See the pics below. When fitted there was a small gap between the underside of the black bonnet extension bracket & the underside of the bonnet which meant the whole thing flexed a bit when the bonnet was lifted up / down. My solution was to adapt / cut up a 3mm blue shim from my bag of carpenter's shims. The shim is just visible in the pics below. I had some 9mm black shims which would have looked better but they were too thick. Only one of the struts is gas assisted which through me a bit when I tested the first one I fitted & it didn't lift the bonnet. Only when the second strut was fitted did it work. All in all it works OK but it's not the best engineered bit of kit I've ever seen. I guess for £18.55 incl tax & shipping you get what you pay for. Strangely this item is no longer available on AliExpress. Hummmmmm? Still, the bonnet is much easier to lift now & something I think the Edition model should have had as standard. LED reversing light bulbs are next which should arrive tomorrow. Gone with some more expensive ones from Amazon Prime (£11.59 for two ain't too bad) because I don't want to wait 4+ weeks for cheaper ones on Ali Express.

You're such lucky clients... having either the car built (even though incomplete) or knowing a build week (even a shifting one). I've never had a build week, and it's been 7 months since I placed the order. The best piece of info I got was "your car is scheduled for production" without them (dealership) knowing when/what that means - so in the current overall context it could be very well mean next year. 🤕 On the bright side: the turtle might beat the rabbit... not on arrival time, but on delivered product - we might get the facelift, as @Dado82 was (seriously-) joking.
  8. Successful weekend, I've replaced the oil pickup, cleaned the sump out and fitted some new parts. Lots of bits of dipstick tube/dipstick in the oil pan. I cleaned it out with brake cleaner and scotch brite. I got my new oil pickup kit and crankcase breather kit. I cleaned the windage tray and fitted the new pickup. The old oil pickup had plastic in it, but it wasn't clogged and not looking too bad. I fitted the new crankcase breather using some 19mm hose and a straight 19mm connection, I'll replaced the entire system with a catch can at some point. Some broken plastic fell inside when I removed the old one so I vacuumed it out with a modification of the vacuum hose. I bought a Mann filter and some millers oil, I went for 5w40 as it has a few miles on it now.
  9. Hey all thought I would start wa little project log , so far this won’t be that exciting for anyone as it’s all standard stuff managed to buy a very clean vRS mk3 with 42k decent spec heated seats, powered fold mirrors , Lane assist etc and looking to retrofit a few options list below are the plans DONE Apple Car Play Enable Debadged Black Grill TO DO Sound Deadening MiB update to 9.2 screen virtual cockpit ACC POSSIBLE Tan interior leather retrim wrap in white as I really wanted a white one lol 😂 few pics below of work so far watch this space for more
  10. Hi guys, I’m Drew and I’m new to Skoda ownership, but I’ve always had VAG cars. I recently bought this: Its got 53k miles and is absolutely minty fresh, with the much nicer dark alcantara interior (in my opinion). No real modifications as yet, I don’t pick it up until Monday, but I’ve never been able to keep a car standard so I imagine it won’t be long… I’m hoping to get along to some meet-ups in the coming better weather as well if anyone can recommend some near the Kent/Medway area. look forward to meeting people in the future 😁👍🏻
  11. I had a clunk noise on the nearside front prob down to the sorry state of the roads , Anyway I took wheel off and got pry bar out nothing really obvious with drop link/ball joints etc ,All I could find was a very small amount of play in the anti roll bar bush so I ordered a set and did em today (both sides) and the clunk is no more 😉 . They didn't look perished or worn to be honest but but you can see the difference on the noisy one ,The flat side is thinner and softer. Only posting this incase it helps others for a cheap fix (£8)
  12. Parts came in, so I now have new discs, pads and handbrake cables for the rear beam. Also got another N75: Bit of junk on the ports of the old one, so good thing I changed it. New Boot struts because why not: New Drop Links: And Changed the D bushes to PSB ones:
  13. Pleased to see him mention the delivery tyre pressures. Ridiculous they were handed over the pressure that they were, but surely as a car dealer he knows the Transit Pressures are for the sake of strapping the cars down on ships, transporters etc.

Yep that’s what I am thinking. North of Manchester not many above 50. meganne e tech, might be a good alt from the few videos I’ve seen. was just told though, the batteries for this, and I guess by proxy other vag, are in Ukraine. So certainly for the born, manufacturing is paused. I can still place a deposit though I’ll wait thanks.
  15. Can you see if there is a specific G62 temperature when it goes from misbehaving to being OK?

Just bought an Octavia estate 1.2 2014. Really pleased with it so far, other than the fact that I couldn't open the fuel filler cover. With advice from your fora, I was able to get in and buy and fit a new actuator quite simply.

Hi and welcome to Briskoda, Mio!
  18. Fit the o/s driveshaft today and heat shield over it. While the front was off I decided to treat the rust dots starting to appear as it was getting abit crusty. I’ve Treated it with some kurust and then a couple of coats of hammerite silver and they have come up not bad at all.
  19. Put your current tyre size into this https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ and it will tell you what 17" tyre sizes will give you the same rolling circumference to ensure the speedo & ABS work correctly
  20. Hair-dryer and fishing line?
  21. Ain't that the truth😖 I need to wash our as well. Also need to get one crater wheel on the Karoq refurbished after the wife curbed it. It now matches the F/N/S alloy on my Superb after she curbed that as well the other week!! What is with females & their lack of spatial awareness? Not saying us guys are perfect but every car my wife has had with alloys she has managed to curb wheels on all of them with within 1 month of owning 😒. Rant over. I now need to find a video on how to fit some gas struts to the Karoq bonnet since no instructions came with the ones I got from AliExpress.

https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/vws-skoda-limits-some-output-due-ukraine-production-russia-still-running-2022-03-01/ https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/skoda-cuts-output-enyaq-electric-suv-due-ukraine-crisis It says only Enyaq is affected by Ukraine situation, so dealers again just grasping for straws with excuses. If anything, this should mean more chips for cars in EU, because currently they are not selling to Ukraine and they will probably stop production in Russia if they haven't already. 23. on the new rapid chargers at Ingliston park and ride in Edinburgh (BP units) if you use the AC charge it prevents anyone using the DC charge. So there are 6 x rapid chargers and 20 x 22kW chargers. Usually there are 6 cars plugged in on the rapids for hours on end while the owners have gone into town on the tram. So there are 20 fast chargers available but rather than using those these selfsh sods block the 6 rapid chargers. Personally I'd have them clamped or towed.
  24. Great news, well done. And well done on finding the bad wiring connection, I am surprised something like this was not found by the mechanics and tuning person you went to with his computer programs but it depends on what he was asked to do if it was only to put (an updated?) program on then fair enough. A good quality tuner should have had you filling in forms or asking you if there was issues with the car before starting any tuning but again if he was only asked to reload a program fair enough. You have had a frustrating journey but also picked up a few things along the way and been reminded of a few things. Going forward if you want to reintroduce some of the changes and modifications you had before do them one at a time and check if they really are an improvement, though that result may only reflect the circumstances of the time but might give you a general idea given all the historical information you have. Clicking on your link to the help you were given, and well done on the help you were given with that, it did remind me of the following, easy with hindsight and it was only one hit against many misses. That BMC filter is dreadful, I know for certain (old at least) K&N do hold together for decades. Good luck with your future improvements and well done again on your instinct, record keeping and persistence.
  25. DCC is worth considering if you like soft / hard suspension depending on the road surface, your driving style or who is in the car. My wife's Karoq Edition 1.5 DSG 4 x 4 does not have DCC but, my Superb L&K does so I do miss DCC when I drive the Karoq. That said my wife is not bothered about DCC, paddle gear shifters, DSG sport mode, cruise control or half of the other stuff fitted to the Edition model. But she does like the ambient lighting & changes it daily!! 🤔 I also miss the heated front windscreen (in winter) on the Karoq which is fitted on my Superb. We bought our Karoq used so we didn't get a choice of options but for what my wife needs it's absolutely fine. However, those nice to have options will push up the price very quickly.
  26. I'll have a look at those videos this evening if I don't have other stuff to do. I'll see if I have that SSP @J.R. The primary daftness with the recirc flap is the 'closing very time you select reverse' fanciness. Just serves to wear out the motor/pot/gears for such negligible benefit. Solved a problem that never really existed.
  27. there are a couple of videos here that install it on a superb mk3:
  28. I don't have either, so no comment on choices so far. You might want to add Hypervolt to your list as they seem popular on the ID.4 FB group for solar integration.
  29. Looks smart! These respond well to tuning, so definitely worth looking into a remap
  30. I didn't have time yet to get on all fours and sprain something else that is old and brittle testing it in the car under the dashboard, but I found this out while testing the unit at home: My car doesn't have AC or climatronic, so it doesn't require a POT meter to be present in the V154 unit to know it's current position. The same unit seems to be used or still be used in many VAG cars, so this might be helpful to others. if you have trouble with the ventilation loosing power, sucking up air from the passenger foot-well when recirc is disabled, you hear clicking or other noises from the device or when the recirc button turn's of pretty quickly, this unit might be the cause. I my situation, there is no active monitoring or control over the V154 by any modules in the car. When your turn the contact on, it always drives the motor for 10 secs to the 'fresh intake' position, and when you press the 're-circulation', it reverses the polarity on the motor and does the same the other way round. It even does this when the module is not attached. When they gears are lined up as described here above after the 're-circulation' position is met, it should line up the two tabs marked in green in the picture or on the other side. When the cog is moved towards position 'red arrow 1' and the two tabs meet, the cog is pushed outwards until it runs free (red arrow 2). Same goes for blue arrow 1 and 2 , but that is the other way round. If you hear clicking, noise or if the motor has a hard time turning or sliding the cog to position '2', it would need cleaning and lubrication of the motor/gears and especially where the large cog slides in and out of the unit/last gear. The large cog is held to the unit by tabs inside the hole in the last gear, which broke off in my situation, but that doesn't hurt any functioning when installed... I think. If the sliding part is dirty or doesn't have any lubrication, it may finally jam the whole system or burn out the motor inside the V154. Note that a new V154 costs around 125 to 150 euro. I'll be back if I managed to install it back completely into the car.
  31. Picked the car up today, and had to go straight from the dealer to work for my night shift, so the only photo I managed was in the dark work carpark… super happy with the car it’s so clean and tight to drive it feels brand new 😁
  32. I get about 30 - 32mpg with a caravan in my 2.0tdi 150 scout on a long run. I have a 1973 land-rover too which does 16-18mpg normally, and the same with a caravan attached 🤔 😅 Cheers
  33. Had another go at the swimming tonight, 40 lengths again, so a kilometre in about 40 minutes, which isn't bad considering I do like to break my groups of lengths up a little. Very pleased with that. Managed 11 lengths in the one go as well.
  34. Yeh, it was my back that persuaded me to sell my Octavia and move to an MPV - the Golf Plus. Then when that was replaced by the Golf SV I found that equally comfortable to get in and out of. Now of course MPVs have largely died out and so the Karoq was the natural replacement as I prefer physical buttons to the touchscreen controls that VW's etc beancounters have decided are cheaper even if they're not as safe to use. Vhris
  35. I thought the high pressure pump was after the fuel filter, it makes very little sense for it to be before. On that basis the debris can only have come from the lift pump, that draws fuel through a guaze filter so it sound like the pump is breaking up.
  36. Well done. I think the level of movement needed to make an annoying noise is very minimal, and rarely possible to detect until the droplink is disconnected at one end.

There is no Skoda stock, at least not in this price range. Company policy does not allow other brands, so I am going to wait and keep complaining anywhere I can.

Had a day cleaning and polishing. It's starting to look a bit better now but still a long way to go
  41. Crisp 'n' dry? 😉 thread/ OP = NO /thread
  42. Yep, some people on here denied that fact when I said this weeks ago
  43. My dealer emailed me back and said I have just spoken to retail support and you are correct about the delay in production on fleet and motability orders this was a decision made by the brand at the first stage of the shortage of semi-conductors but was stopped back in August 2021 putting everything into production
  44. Any Euro 5 engine car is the old emission standards and any early Euro 6 before Euro 6d was discontinued (In the EU but maybe not other World Regions) as emissions change and we get to Euro 7 in 2025 or whenever engines / vehicles prior to that need manufacturer support. VW Group will still be producing parts or having them produced. So an 8 year old car gets a new engine. As has happened since 2010 with 1.4 TSI Twinchargers, and can happen now 8 years after production of the Mk2 Fabia and others with this engine stopped. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/449229-new-engine-is-not-a-new-engine The VW Group have a factory in Germany that refinishes / refurbishes engines and these are for global sales. Many Warranty Replacement engines are from this source. The Engine blocks are retained and rebuilt with new internals and are sold as base engines. There is no difference between a new engine and a refurbished one. They are readily available and will continue to be long into the future. There are companies all around the world that will rebuild engines. @Yogi-BearDo you really think that the VW Group do not support owners of vehicles in World Regions that do not have the WLTP emissions as the World Harmonisation test is not actually world wide. They even have to supply replacement parts for vehicles that they built and sold illegally and had to withdraw from sale. There are courts / authorities around the world that could tear them a new one. http://bbc.co.uk/news/business-34410390
  45. Sooo, it's been a while since I've updated this. Not much has happened over the past year... other than having my front number plate nicked and buying a second (shiny) car - Audi S3 8P 🥰 However, after nearly 12 years of ownership I'm finally getting the Beast mapped to Stage 1 - custom map on a dyno. All booked in for next month 😎 Not sure what else is coming this year but I'm keen to get more mental stuff done. Paintwork needs a little TLC this summer but otherwise its going strong!
  46. The car has been running fine since the sensor was changed so that's a bonus. I've also noticed that the fuel economy has improved since, even on cold mornings. My usual commute would give me just over 30mpg when the temp was around 5 degrees Celsius. Since replacing the sensor with a genuine version, it is now around 34 to 36 mpg over the course of the working week. I did a slightly longer run today and was quite pleased to see the numbers on the trip computer were back to where I expected them to be. I'd been dipping into the high twenties over a tank which was annoying, especially as I was trying to be careful. Today's Fuelly fill up said the car had averaged 38.29mpg over 190 miles. Admittedly the ambient temperature was 11 degrees but even so, that's much better. The 190 miles had been a mixture of two long runs of 60 miles and the rest was stop-start traffic. As you can see, there's a theoretical 545 miles from the tank according to the trip computer. Don't worry about me driving and taking pictures either, the Mrs was the photographer. I also turn the traction control off every time I drive the car as I find my right foot is safer than the on/off system the car uses by default. Just after filling up, the computer thought I'd be able to get a whopping 580 miles out of a tank if I kept driving in the same manner as I had for the previous hour and a half. The trip reading for the journey today was reading 47.8 just before I filled up. I know nobody buys a Stage 2 vRS for the fuel economy but it's interesting to see what can be achieved if it's driven carefully.
  47. One of the last few pieces of the inside. I Swapped the facias of a facelift citigo so the stereo out the gti will now fit straight in. Dashes are a different shape in facelift up’s whereas citigo kept same dash throughtout. Now it will work with no component protection worries. Also received a steering column cowling today that’s from a facelift as they are different to original. So just need the switches next to heater out of a facelift with the stop start and heated seat buttons to finish off

And done. Not set to low still has to be useable unlike the last one
