  1. Self moderation is the key to happiness. The best reply is sometimes no reply at all. we’re all free to do what we want to do with our stuff. Why would someone buy a brand new car and take the engine out… because they can. warranty is just a risk assessment. Like any insurance. You do or do not tinker. Any manufacturer would have a hard time proving a light code change broke the transmission. Nissan tried it and lost, can’t find the reference now, 350z owner, massive warranty claim voided on unrelated change; many lost case, in the USA mind. so all that said, above all else we can and should remain civil in our replies. if we can’t, please don’t reply, self moderate for a few minutes. If after an hour you still feel the same, reply with civility. Thanks.
  2. For anyone waiting for a new Karoq, this video shows the production line, and features the orange colour too! Chris

I agree ... but I think one of the issues is that cars have become so technical these days that drivers aren't inclined to do anything with their cars until a light comes on. So we have TPMS in this case to switch on the warning light but that itself requires setting when the tyres are inflated and even then it still lets you set it at the wrong pressures. I'm not surprised people forget the simple things when cars are so packed full of driver aids which take away from understanding the basics ... TPMS, autowipers, self dipping headlights, self dimming rear view mirror, reversing sensors, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, electronic parking brake, start stop, self parking ,and in the case of some cars .... semi autonomous driving ! Cheers

I ordered an RS today, I was warned that the delivery schedule is way out and nothing should be expected for at least 8 months and probably nearer 12. I don't mind too much, as the dealer is going to arrange for the pcp to be extended accordingly, the only fly in the ointment is that I'll have to get 2x new tyres, MOT and service in that time. I'm not worried about it, 💩 happens, we are where we are and I'm not going to whinging about it. I knew what I was letting myself in for when I put the deposit down, so I will just live with it. I'm just thinking that by the time it arrives most of (if not all) the glitches should have been sorted out.
  8. Arrived a little too late to feed the birds!
  9. ColinD already commented on the thread, so I will just point out that we won’t be carrying on an argument past that point. Just accept people have different views and speak to others as you would like to be spoken to yourself 👍
  10. Advertising on Briskoda for the small fee is worthwhile.
  11. Hi @AnnoyingPentium and @Warrior193 and thanks for your warm welcome Nothing too interesting, really. It was provided by a company I was working for. I was using it to perform Monthly visits on properties for insurance purposes, nationwide. It was doing 3200 miles a Month and as it approached 70,000 miles, it started to need a few things doing (rear shocks, front discs and pads, console bushes, 3rd set of tyres, exhaust section). Nothing out of the ordinary, all items you would expect to be bolting on around the 70K mark. They didn't see this ongoing £100 a Month or so repair bill as being financially viable, even though the vehicle was helping them to turn over 13,000 a Month. Sometimes, when people aren't car people there's just no getting through to them. Long story short, they decided to sign it's death warrant, I put £200 quid into repairing it and it now drives like it just drove out of the showroom, tight as a drum!! They now have me in an Octavia which itself is approaching 70K and needs pretty much the same work doing. I wonder if they'll see sense this time and realise that cars need parts, repairs and attention when they do 40,000 miles a year
  12. Occasionally parts do fail early (either weren’t manufactured properly in which case tend to fail early under warranty) or can be unlucky. But majority go for years and never give any problem. A common solution is to change a whole mechatronic control unit, even if it is a tiny part inside. Although this expensively fixes a problem, to some extent is the gearbox equivalent of changing the whole axle if you have a puncture to avoid working out where tyre has a hole.

I'm not quite sure what the mistake is in never considering something that yours and other peoples lives may depend on, it's not like taking a wrong turning. The reason that I find it scary is that I am under no illusions and believe that the vast majority of todays motorists fall into that camp and that its myself who is the exception, the sheer volume of vehicles on the road with so few actually having regular safety & maintenance checks is what makes it scary rather than what individuals do.

I have worked 5 years in a powder paint shop.I will say that the most rims from early 90s are powder painted.I think I have powder painted 1000+ rims in my life, maybe 1% bubbled, and had to be sandblasted.
  15. A bug in the driver assistance features would be considered by most potential buyers as pretty dangerous. I can understand why people might want to complain about it bearing in mind the poster is saying that it is a known bug without a fix. I know my emergency brake system on the mk3 had a few moments where it screams an alarm and brakes for no obvious reason, the high beam assist is rubbish too and that is left off. Doesn't mean it's a rubbish car, but critisism where it's due is fair. Just because a car is great in some ways doesn't mean it's without flaws, so I'm sure we can all get along and agree it's great in some ways and has problems in others.👍
  16. And if possible implement camera monitored HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes like many US cities with big fines for driver only vehicles using them.

  20. Took the Octavia to Snetterton for a track day. Had a great time and considering it's only the second time I've taken it on a track, I was really quite pleased with how it performed. I've recently removed the lowering springs, as I wasn't really liking the ride they gave out on the road, and put the standard springs back on. I've still got the Koni shocks on it and that combinations provides a much more comfortable and stable ride. Out on track it was so balanced and predictable and it never once tried to step out of line. Along with sticky track rubber, it was pretty great to drive. I had a slight issue early on as it was getting a bit warm and when the engine temperature crept up to the next line past 90 on the gauge, it would limit the boost until the temp dropped down again. Easy fix was to take the spot lights and front grille off to help get a bit more air flowing through the rad. It helped substantially and made the situation a bit easier to manage. As long as I kept smooth and tidy, it wasn't really too much of a problem for the rest of the day. Early on, despite being quite experienced at Snetterton, I've always been in a much lower powered car before so I had to re-learn the circuit taking into account that I was arriving at corners about 30mph quicker than I've been used to. Soon got the hang of it though and by the afternoon I was lapping consistently quick and tidily. Early Video: Later video: Thouroughly enjoyed the day and apart from the small temperature issue early on, the car didn't need anything than fuel all day. I also have it on very good authority that it spits flames when giving it the beans I did manage to crack the brake discs by the end of the day though, good job there's some spares in the garage. It's due an MOT next month but before that happens it's also due a service including cam belt and water pump. It obviously needs some brake discs and it'll probably benefit from a brake fluid change too. Tempted to put a fresh raditor on it too as the original is now 18 years old and is starting to show up a bit of inefficiency. So, plenty on the list to be getting on with.

I think that the OP has learned from their mistake and we can all be happy that our contributions have made one driver safer. And such mistakes are more common I'm sure than we'd like to think. At least routine checks are at least part of the driving tests now. My 19 year old niece clearly knew her checks when I last saw her, as she asked to borrow my tyre gauge to check when cold 👍 My sister in law trusted a "friend" to inflate her tyres and drove from the southern England to Scotland and back, her numpty friend put them down to 18psi from a required 32. She said the steering was a bit odd! Now I'm the only one that checks them..
  22. Have been reading a few posts on a Mk4 Facebook page with people saying since the update around a fortnight ago their issues seem to have been resolved with the ACC and popping SOS system. Fingers crossed they are mostly there now with the software.
  23. I think both sides of the argument have some validity. Perhaps an addition to the first post by the OP stating that you should backup the configs before doing anything, you should understand what the changes do before making them and that they are carried out at your own risk? Then I think we can say it's up to people if they want to mess around with their cars.
  24. Hi all. I'll start by saying I'm on my 5th Octavia and this is the worst one I've ever had, it's been in the garage more than the others combined and I've not had it for a year yet! I have a 2021 Octavia VRS. Had loads of software issues with it since day 1 and I've had enough! It's been into the garage about 6 or 7 times for firmware updates and I STILL get random errors when I start it up. Anyway rant over. The latest problem is the Adaptive Cruise Control will randomly slam on the brakes when I'm overtaking a vehicle. Mainly happens on the motorway when overtaking very large vehicles (HGVs etc). And will slam on to prevent me overtaking! This is very dangerous! Skoda have said they have known about the problem for over 9 months and are waiting on a other firmware fix for it! What the heck has happened to Skoda recently, it's like they've fired the QA department. This car is not ready for sale, DON'T buy one! Worst thing is I know someone who has taken delivery of an Audi recently and is experiencing the same type of issues!
  25. Hi all, I took this VRS in px for my old VW transporter on Sunday . The plan was to sell it straight on but I have already grown attached to it so it will be staying for a while at least. Its in reasonable condition for an 11 year old 120k mile car but the paint work looked like it had been polished with a cactus🙄. So first days job was to spend a few hours machine polishing it touching up stone chips etc. It is now looking much better although it will need a lot more TLC to get it to a respectable standard
  26. Strange this. My old Huawei Mate 10 Pro, which is the same era as the P20, worked really well with Android Auto. My wife still uses hers in a Tucson and as far as I know there are no issues. Sorry I can't be of any real help. Is it worth a reset of the phone? My new OnePlus frequently disconnects and reconnects after about 20 minutes of being plugged in. It's infuriating.
  27. Bushings out finally, and I was able to use the holes for the buhes to hang the rear beam up to make it easier to paint. Then got a coat of Primer on it. And a coat of Hammerite Hammered black this evening. Its come out pretty well, seems to match the wheels almost perfectly which is cool. Needs a second coat of hammerite, and the bushes pushed in and thats the beam pretty much done. After that I can focus on the brakes.
  28. I’ve driven a few cars with ACC and number 1 always happens - sometimes it stops seeing the car in front on tighter bends and so starts to speed up. I suppose the detector has a certain scope of visibility out of which it can’t see - so either speeds the car up or stops it like in your example if it sees a car in the other carriageway. I’ve not had number 2 happen as far as I know, I’ll try to test it sometime.
  29. I concur 😀 Black, white and primer grey are NOT colours.
  30. oh lord this is overdue an update... not much to report, i havnt been out since Sunday 2 weeks ago.. i did a different kinda run that night, chancing a run up the 15-25% grade hill i cycle up to get to the hills, to see how far id get.. made it about a km up the hill, after about a k to get there. also held a reasonable pace up it too. given the gradient etc. then swmbo had a couple of work things that stung me for the start of that week, and the weather was appalling, and then i got covid! been down since. really want a good cycle, but feel like my lungs might split if i try.. fingers crossed for later this week thougj.
  31. That was at my local dealer Karoq was in for service and a recall and I asked what’s your best price on a DSG service and they said £140 I do get on well with them bought 5 cars of them never be afraid to ask for a discount
  32. I'm not talking bus lanes, HOV means ANY vehicle with more than one occupant - car, bike, trike, bus, etc.
  33. Why? If people like a traditional looks, why should they not get a car like that? Why? Who desides this?

    what's the oil level like?
  35. Welcome. I take it you are using someplace with the best of reputation and reviews. The fully qualified and professional painter that you are employing will be the best to advise you. They should have all the gear and more than ideas to give better than a factory finish that matches the rest of the car. (The factory finish has rust on the roof!) PS Have you asked the detailer you used 2 years ago who they would recommend to do the rust removal and repainting? ? Why is there rust, was the roof damaged?
  36. Just walk away, you are clearly getting upset about it all. 😂😂
  37. yes the famous update that is going end everyones problems.was it not supposed to be released some time in march of this year?
  38. On the fuelly app, my average mpg is 37.4 over 7381 miles. 50% driving in Milton Keynes between the roundabouts and 50% A-roads. I've had high 40's on longer runs.
  39. Not really weird, basic servicing and maintenance like changing the engine oil & filter are important and effective, but can only do so much to reverse any previous neglect and/or abuse. Much servicing and maintenance boils down to simple clean and lubricate, oil changes a good example of both, even erasing error codes is a form of cleaning. Many think they can ease up on servicing and maintenance on older cars when usually it's needed even more. Keep up with the oil and filter changes and use good quality oil and filter if you want to have things last as long as possible. Also timely air and fuel filter changes will help as well as, where appropriate cleaning MAF and throttle body. Unless everything is reasonably clean you can be moving and promoting 'dirt' around the engine, which will eventually grind or clog items.
  40. Grill looks miles better and I would have done the same with the plate - I remove all advertising from the supplying garage when I get a car and the plates can look really bad. Did you give it a machine polish?
  41. One of the first things I did to my paupers spec model. Unfortunately not many scrap Yeti's here in Spain and the only one I did find was RHD so had to buy a cheap plastic Chinese thing from Aliexpress. Does the job well enough. Does the job well
  42. Thanks! It won't be a very long report for a four-day trip. I went to check my tyre pressures this morning before setting off. They were all 31.5 psi. I have a Michelin foot pump in the boot. It took 50 strokes to get each tyre back up to 35 psi. London to Fakenham. M11, A11. Traffic was a breeze! Perfect weather for walking. Spending money like it's water. Might as well... Putin has me throwing caution to the wind. Car is running like new. Stop/Start is immediate with the new battery. Used to take 20 minutes to kick in... Why you would spend more than £25K for a car is beyond me. This five-year-old Sportline is perfect. Got passed by a Lamborghini – how the heck to you get in and out of one of those things?
  43. Good for you. Many others do have an issue with it and it's bloody dangerous. It's incredible that a company as huge VAG Group seem unable to get their cars to work properly. If i'd paid £30k for a telly or even £3k and it tried to kill me i'd be less than impressed. If you are a lucky one without the ACC problem you can't appreciate the safety issues when you go for a overtake and the car slaps the anchors on at 70+ mph. It isn't pleasant.
  44. Don't step on the... step? 😳 You should get your stencil and black paint out:
  45. Well,I will change my mind and say it is the larger (bigger)plastic shield.
  46. Diesel Cooler and its shield.
  47. One job I noticed while valeting the car was the chrome grill surround was badly chipped and discoloured so today I stripped the grill and painted the surround in deep black pearl Just waiting for my new grill badge to arrive now so it has a temporary grill badge. Another job done was to remove the CARSHOP advertising from the botton of the number plates Tomorrows job is to sort the swirl flap motor (one previous owner or garage has stuffed tissue paper in the hole where the engine warning LED is to cover the fault🤣) Trying to fit it in between paying customers work 🤪
  48. New car day 🥰 Unfortunately raining so wet drive home 😥
