I'd stop that sentence at "to store it...", yes batteries are one option for storage but pumped hydro and creating hydrogen to be stored for later use in a fixed generator is another - there's probably more that others can think of. As in almost everything a "one size fits all" approach is normally not the best way to solve a problem.

Could be informative to get @Aspman's latest thoughts on his heat pump installation as unit prices are heading skywards.

As it is the plan is to stop the sale of new ICE cars in the not distant future, so there is lots needing done in that time. Like a Motor Trade journal had an article only yesterday. Salespeople need to learn about EV's, not just here is an EV do you want one? They need to know about charging, range and not just driving their company car / demonstrator and charging it at work. Quicker than the increase of the sales of EV cars is the purchase of EV Vans and the sales people are again pretty clueless as are many buyers. It is easily summed up when it is said that a mix of energy sources are required and that transportation of goods including vessels, agricultural and heavy plant and industry will require hydrogen. Any one can become skilled to work with training if they are keen and there are those to train them. So we know all the new tech there is and all those leaving school that need jobs so time will tell if better to teach them young rather than teaching old dogs new tricks. This is the UK so there is lots of talking and little action.

And another seemingly final update here for anyone struggling as much as I was to find answers in the future...found this video: which allowed me to understand the "loose nut" issue more clearly and whipped off the wheel arch liner (just the bottom part is enough for this) and saw I had no bolt in the compressor at all...so with the assumption it was stripped of splines as the video shows I popped a bolt in with loctite just to see if it was actually stripped and hey presto...cold air again. So before you go buying a new compressor just spend 20 minutes...wheel off, liner out and check your compressor bolt....2013 facelift Octavia Scout for posterity. If it fails again I will update here with the replacement shear plate kit the chaps in the video offer.

Mine is finally in the UK just shy of 16 months from order. I've been told around 3 weeks from this point to me which seems far too long so I've told them to hold off until September so a grand total of 16 and a half months with the last couple of days at my request. But hey, at least it's in the right country 😅

Rather than just keeping faded till receipts keep a file of the car's general history (MoTs, "road tax") as well as receipts and print outs for parts and materials (but not trivia like every light bulb) and keep it in a folder with individual leaves/envelopes in reverse chronological order with a summary of the main points at the front showing what was done at what time and mileage, plus the latest MoT, "road tax", V5C. Most potentials buyers are well impressed with this. Plus it means you can quickly reference relevant information a potential buyer might ask or when search for relevant history yourself..

So the waiting game has ended finally! Drove about 20km today and took it to public charger. More driving later when i get the winter wheels off the boot etc! First impressions are.. well, not sure if excited about the car or the color 😛

I have 2022 RS, software 1889 and then updated to 1896, and from start havent had any issue’s whatsoever. Only thing that didn’t work from the factory was the wireless android auto/carplay, wich i had to enable at the dealer. Thats it. Great car.

Manufacturing of Batteries isfully under control of China and they/Russia are in control of many of the metals that go into them. Batteries need replacing every 10-15 years in commercial systems. Batteries are extremely difficult to recycle. Batteries are just expensive per kWh Mining of material for as well as recycling of batteries often involves lots of very poor or child labour. If conditions were good costs would be unaffordable. mining is devastating to the local environment too. When they come up with a lighter, safer , cheaper more environmentally sound battery I might be more convinced. Not everyone can survive on 150 miles and 45 minutes rest break. Most people I know won’t go EV but would go hydrogen. So your choice is ICE of FCEV which would you rather picked?

@roottoot yes, it's a 245 on a 19 plate, so it does have the VAQ diff I believe. Strangely enough I've not been told anything about getting it serviced by the dealer, but then they're pretty useless. Charged me a £75 quid diagnostic/investigation fee when the car arrived at their workshop with no oil due to a chuffing great hole in the sump! Then they insisted that I had the oil service 6 months later even though I'd had the car 7 months, it had had an oil/filter change when I bought it, and fresh oil a month later! It's now coming up on its 40k service, (covered under service plan) so I'm going to a different main dealer and asking them to do the VAQ as part of that.

Same thing with the Golf Mk8, Seat Leon Mk4 and Cupra Formentor. They all share the same infotainment hardware and software. Only difference is the UI.

Should be a straight swap, used a comparison website and the outer diameter looks to be basically the same as 215/40 17 which I'm running at the minute with no issue.

I’d definitely go back to the dealer again. The repair shouldn’t fail so soon after it was carried out. Did the repair come with a six month or twelve month warranty? (Other thread mentions 12)

I reckon that car speedos and trip counters 40 years ago were so inaccurate that to rely on the 1/10th mile is a false hope. To assume a precision of 1/10th does not imply accuracy. Anyway, it seems you have a specific requirement I suggest a car speedo is the wrong tool for the job. Get over it. There is so much information in these cars that is easily accessible I'd call it a design success. Have a fiddle with the views on teh main Infotainment screen and you'll find a myriad of options to suit the vast majority of needs.

There’s a parameter in the 17-Instrument ECU that can be either set to ‘poor oil quality ’ or ‘good oil quality’. ´Good’ meaning ´long life´ oil. Bit there’s no sensor for real time oil quality analysis. 😉

Odds are they made a mistake in the reset of the oil change done last time. They maybe changed to a fixed service interval on diagnostic equipment, despite I assume you still being on a long life regime.

first time i have tried sat nav since i got the car 2 weeks ago,what a biggest load of rubbish it is.i done a 35 mile run with it to a place i go to very often. it was trying to take me on a mystery tour of the country side.it wanted me to go anywhere apart what i put into sat nav.it is the worst sat nav i have ever had and i have had a few poor one but this if in a class on its own.i drive in europe and after this short trip i would never use this crap sat nav again.

If you want to renew, if you've got a place(s) nearby that make and install custom exhausts say for modified modern or classic cars then ask them as they can be good value and offer a well made custom product that'll be a better fit than most off-the-shelf boxes and you could have it same size as original but of even better material and if you want even quieter.

I have the same engine in my 2020 Edition model (which I'm probably about to sell) Given the way I drive (I don't dawdle but drive with mechanical sympathy) when and where I drive (don't use car for commute, mix of A/B roads and motorway) I've never had less than 45 mpg from a tankful, according to the trip computer I've been extremely pleased with the fuel consumption: much, much better than I expected. I can compare journeys and driving style directly with my previous car (Golf Alltrack diesel) which averaged mid-low-50s mpg. Bonus is that the Kodiaq is much quieter and smoother. Not seen any statistically-significant effect on mpg or performance using E10 petrol

Truth is they won't be able to repair economically so they have no choice but to refund. At what point did you first raise with them oil level low I.e oil use?

Just had another look and found some water by the drive belt so I am suspecting the water pump, maybe wrong awful if it is as it’s only done 23,000 miles and always service at Skoda, could be just a gasket but still be the same labour cost just waiting for Skoda to see if they can fit me in going away on Monday typical

Yeah, I was reading about the carte grise, control technique, pollution tax and all that tax stuff - i'm going to delegate that as I feel it needs a french speaker/reader . car is now just over 5yrs old so hopefully it should be cheap enough. i'll keep a record of anything that is needing to be done and by who, and post back when its all completed in case it helps someone else in the future.. exciting times.. one-way flight booked for the 21st August..

Have you actual figures that demonstrate the differences in loses here? Between green hydrogen produced close to source then distributed via pumping or by shipping or by road as we currently do things to an already existing infrastructure and work force. Compared to transmitting electricity one end of the country to the other to be stored in batteries that are not green to produce and worse to recycle and finally distributed to vehicle charging network that doesn’t exist yet.

I think it comes down to battery construction, if the internal resistance is higher (due to the way the battery is built) then the open circuit voltage will be OK but when a current is drawn (like when the fob is used) the voltage will drop below the threshold set and hence the voltage warning be generated. This may explain why fresh Panasonic batteries don't seem to have the problem?

You’re missing the point. Renewables be they large solar or wind are asked to disconnect/stop generating all the time. That is wasted energy that isn’t generated. The generation of hydrogen at source is essentially a huge battery which can be sold as hydrogen or fed into a fuel cell to generate power for the grid when demand is high and sun/wind low. Transmission losses are real, grid upgrade costs are high, millions don’t have parking and plenty can’t afford to extend journey times. Hydrogen would be an easy swap for fuel with few changes of habit and those without private parking can swap. Where is V2G which has been coming for years but isn’t? If there’s lots of wind in wales, but no demand there, however loads of demand in London you can’t just dump all the power on the local grid in Wales. It needs more interlinks and balancing to keep the grid in spec/tolerance.

Makes sense. You should order now, if you want Octavia mk5 delivered in 10 years. Even then, probably alot of people who will order after you, will get the car faster for some "mysterious" reason.

Hi everyone and thanks again for all the advice and information. in the end I used some bilt hamber rust converter, then anti corrosion wax which I had around which should halt the corrosion. I would also like to warn people with a mk2 superb about a potential corrosion issue, on the floor pan around the spare wheel well and where the rear springs are, there was quite a bit of rust. This may not be an issue at this stage but could become one in the future if left untreated. I treated this rust in the same way as I did the subframe.

What is the point on a Sticker from another engine for a code if not sure what your engine / code was ? The Engine in the car has a stamped engine number. Maybe not clear for you to see but if a Police officer or Insurance Loss Adjuster wants to see it they will find it. The Engine number that was on the engine leaving the factory or if a change was notified is on the V5.

To remove them, get on your back and under the car - you'll find some lovely bolts/allen screws that need removing (cannot remember which off top of my head, been a while since I did them) - 4 each side from what I remember. They are difficult and awkward. You've got a tiny amount of space to work in and being located where they are - there is dirt around them. I did WD40 on everything before starting. I lost skin across the majority of my knuckles, I left most of is on the underside of my car, drew blood, swore worse than a sailor.......... Make sure you clean them up, give them a good base coat and then a few layers of paint - I used a heat resistant engine block spray paint on mine - nearly a can on each one, coat, dry, coat, dry - until the can had no more. Really because once they go back on, I've not zero intention of taking them back off again for any repair work.

Is your car a dsg? It's quite common that the inline thermostat to the oil cooler for the gearbox can stick open, causing the above symptoms.

The drawback is that his dataset is modified for his DCC retrofit into a golf so while the functional data is in there I’m not sure it’s in the best format for input into a Superb. There is also a user Chillout on that forum who has done this and has the necessary files but he has not been online since July so I’m hoping he replies to my DM. Yes, this is also possible for S2 with Sound System. Premium Bluetooth must be dismantled anyway as MIB STD2 PQ units have bluetooth module built-in.

I really wouldn't want this in my car, and its not something i'm interested in using. The roads in the UK are so poor it just wouldn't work properly. Lane assist is bad enough and is always tugging at the wheel when i'm not expecting. Its interesting how many people in this thread are looking forward to this sort of tech though.
