Hi guys! Picked up my vRS last friday. 15 months of wait totally worth it!
  2. Gird your loins chaps, I have progress to report. I'd had a great idea many, many months (if not years now) about mounting the Darkside "SEAT Sport" intercooler in the same way that the Forge coolers mount, hanging off the front panel. Whilst it worked in theory, due to the deeper height of the intercooler, it then fouled on the bumper as it stuck down lower than the rad pack, so I've had to revert to the standard wonky way the coolers align using the SEAT brackets. This does mean that there would now be a chew on getting the silicone hoses to fit but I think I have got a way round that. I have ordered a set of two boost hoses with a 30 degree bend in them, which will hopefully give the right angle of deflection for them to fit without much swearing. They are due to arrive today. In the meantime, I have now fitted the intercooler, refitted the slam panel, fitted the new Xenon headlights and got all of the bulbs in, ballasts working and the gaps in the best position possible. There is much cleaning to do in the engine bay still as despite the bonnet being closed and the car under its cover, dust from the DIY has found it's way everywhere so when it's back outside i'll be giving everything a good snowfoaming down and thorough washing off before getting it brought back up to standard. Once the boost hoses are here, trimmed and fitted I'll test fit the bumper back on and try and get a step closer to getting it off the stands and moving under its own power. Still need a Milltek back box though......
  3. I think you are mistaken sorry, there is a lot more than 20, even a lot more than 200, theres more than a good few thousand L&K model mk3 superbs in the uk EDIT: 431 currently registered L&K 2.0 tsi 280bhp 4x4 models specifically
  4. Always baffles me how the sportline badge is nice, fitted and clean looking. Then the L&K badge looks like something from the halfords clearance bin, they could of put so much more effort into it, made it nicer!
  5. Mine were removed the same day we got the car too - really cheap and nasty. All the boot badges came off too.
  6. 6Y5 = Fabia Mk1 estate. E4 = Euro 4 emission standards HTP = (High Torque Performance) 1.2 HTP engine CLA = Classic trim. Don't know what the 'COM' means
  7. Some hybrids are being extended to 2035; They will not be kiddy on ones with little range running on electric. http://confused.com/car-insurance/guides/new-petrol-and-diesel-car-ban The manufacturers need to try harder, maybe forget performance of the speed and concentrate on efficiency, range.
  8. Evening fellas. Just wanted to update you on the car situation. So this morning I drove it to the gym only 3 miles away. With the engine cold the gearbox was definitely more clunky. On the drive back it seemed to improve somewhat. I sat and deliberated it and decided I would return the vehicle, the seller agreed and I drove the car back 60 miles to the dealership. On the drive back it was actually quite nice and I was starting to question if I was doing the right thing, then sure enough, shifted into 3rd and it snatched the gear stick out my hand and engaged the gear. Only subtly but it was there nevertheless. If it wasn't for this I would have been chuffed to keep the car, everything else on it was perfect, but the gearbox does need aligning or something to get rid of that notchy feeling it has. Again I just wanted to thank everyone on here for their advice and support. I have to wait until I can get the V5 back to the dealer before I can get my money back for some reason, but when I do I'll be back in the market looking to test drive another VRS as I really liked the car. Thanks again. Matt.
  9. I have similar story - the guy I know bought a Range Rover Evoque, I told him that I am looking at different data/sources/info/videos on all season tyres for my then Lexus GS, he said that putting winter/all season tyres on the car is a waste of money as tyres do nothing in such conditions and it is all about the car and the driver professionalism, at that point i stopped trying to prove my point, as you said - you can't argue with stupid! It amazes me that people believe in it!
  10. Are you blond by any chance Dr S? G
  11. You had a bear with you? No wonder your driving was all over the place!!
  12. Supposedly the best all seasons on snow is the thing with Michelin Cross Climate 2. Are they or are they not? If they were proven so then it would be simple. just fit them, but that is not how things work. First you need to get then on UK snow. Find the snow. Did he not know that when there is snow that Scottish Ski Resorts get roads ploughed to get people up, or if not the snow gates get closed. We do need to know how they are on fresh snow though and on ploughed, hard packed snow roads as you get in the Scottish Hill Routes. No black top. Lockdown & Covid closed the Ski Centres when there was snow to anyone other than very local. Yoiu can check the roads in real time with the Road Side & Ski Centre Webcams. It is known as using your common sense.
  13. On the newer tdi they are often air to water coolers. that is a crazy case of loading the parts canon and seeing what sticks! sounds like your only possible options are; dsg cooler oil cooler heater core EGR valve head gasket all of which can be gone through and eliminated or require further investigation like J.R said, a sniff test will eliminate egr and certain types of head gasket failure.
  14. Weird one - the auto is basically just a standard gearbox with a solenoid actuated changer and clutch. Intrigued by "charging up the battery"... How old is the battery? It may start the car but these autos are quite fussy about having good batteries (at least the computer controller is fussy). There's a chance your battery is dying.
  15. Received with thanks. Much appreciated. You are a star.

Sorry it wasn't that but was worth a look!
  17. It's also 0369 version, link to follow in a few minutes
  18. More work on the vrs Very quickly slapped paint on the rear brakes. More work filling in a few dents on that quarter panel Doing a lot of wire wheeling and kurusting on it and poked through just a little bit of the sill No holes on these little bits luckily.
  19. Try on a VW UP forum for more info:- https://www.google.com/search?q=vw+up+asg+overheating&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB917GB917&oq=vw+up+asg+overheating&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i546l5.9212j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 This won't have charged your battery enough. No. My Citigo recently went on a 500 mile round trip including stints on a motorway with no problem. Thanks, AG Falco
  20. Just turn it off mate, or am I missing something?
  21. I sat there for about 20 seconds before I realised your video was only four seconds long 🙄 Agree, steering wheel looks good 👍 Gaz
  22. Trucks don't seem to like your car Nice steering wheel 🙂
  23. As long as they can get Company / Business users and Public Services drivers in first and then those vehicles on the used market things will be going well. The issue is not the shortage of people that will go EV's it is the shortage of product. Now there is under 8 years now to buy new ICE vehicles in the UK that are not electrified in some way. http://carmagazine.co.uk/electric/ev-sales-figures-uk

Based on personal experience I would avoid the combination of 16" + winter tyres + Octavia MK4. I drove a dealer's demo car (Octavia MK4, hatch, 1.0 TSI, sport suspension) which had 16" rims and Nokian R2 Hakkapeliitta tyres (these are high quality top 3 reviewed winter tyres) and the combination of the soft suspension (even with factory sport suspension) of the Octavia MK4 and the softness of 16" winter tyres made the car very unpredictable and thus felt dangerous to drive. I've also driven Octavia MK4s with 17" and 18" winter tyres and they felt MUCH more predictable and safe to drive. Personally, after reading several reviews of different winter tyres, I opted for the Goodyear Ultragrip Ice 2 SoundComfort Tech FP 225/50R17 98T. I've used them for one winter and I am very pleased with their performance.
  25. I'm not 100% but engines under 2.0 which have the dry cutch might not need the water/oil cooler so won't have the additional stat. I'm pretty confident everything with a wet clutch will have the oil cooler.
  26. A click when turning wheel with indicator on sounds normal for any car I’ve had with self cancelling indicators.
  27. You know what, I think you're correct. It looked ok initially to me last night but now I'm sat here studying the pictures the more it's bugging me. I'm now looking at getting the right hand SEAT Sport intercooler bracket modified to bring the cooler out flush with the left had side. Sent some images to a fabrication buddy of mine who can work his magic.

I've just checked them, I'm not convinced it was the bracket, mine was as solid as a rock,no movement. Neither could I test it stationary, as my car has to be on the move for the nose to occur. Very easy to access though, from the drivers side rear, fortunately my low rise ramps were perfect for the job, although you could see and reach them without having to raise the car.
  29. Bear with me, I'll keep the suspense a little longer as it's quite an amusing story. I had those Avon winter tyres on an A3 a few years ago and I have dashcam footage of them performing admirably but there's bound to be variations I guess from owner to owner.
  30. 1.5 week ago I swapped original Bridgestones with Pirelli Cinturato All season SF2 and they are great, much quieter than Bridgestone and softer. I still always afraid of the snow and majority of the people still have worn summer tyres and they still drive to work/schools etc and stuck on any sort of the inclined surface which doesn't help anyone who has winter or all season tyres as you are stuck behind all other drivers!
  31. Please explain sooner rather than later. ? Are you going to post a video or an expert using these tyres, or pictures? They will be terrible in snow as far as braking and traction, grip, in fresh, packed, ploughed and gritted roads, slush, thawing roads. Basically cold / wet roads. But many will have them on cars. Maybe parked up and abandoned. We all have different opinions. Or experiences. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/459700-avon-wv7-snow http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/461444-short-winter-tyre-complaint-thread

  33. I had Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2 fitted 2 years ago (Gen 3 is out now), to my Octavia DSG. They were excellent in snow and rain but after 20k miles, the fronts were down to just over 3mm and they were an advisory on the MOT. Cracks on the edges and quite worn on the edges. The rears are fine and have 6mm left. I decided to fit Michelin Cross Climate 2 to the front and they were superb in the rain on Friday. Hoping for some snow this winter as they are supposedly the best all season on snow.
  34. Could potentially rule in/out the EGR cooler by bypassing it temporarily so coolant flow doesn't go through it.

I've got to the point that unless I am REALLY broke I get most things done by a garage. Something as basic as this though I'll do myself. Luckily my dad has a pit in his garage which will make things much easier.

Mines on 112k and as it’s 5 years old in November it’s getting a timing belt change with its service. been great for the past 30k in my ownership
  37. I've got PHEV and heated seats and steering wheel turn on when starting at <14c

There is about 4-5mm difference between new tread and worn tyres (which equates to 8-10mm diameter difference) so there is no point in even thinking about a 2mm diameter difference. Winter tyres often have deeper treads (7.5mm - 8mm) so overall difference might turn out to be under a mm In Germany (which has rather faster roads than we do), the vRS comes with 18 inch or 19 inch wheels so don’t worry about the smaller size not being ideal https://www.skoda-auto.de/_doc/eca163c1-4852-4720-a282-e37d5ba932a8
  39. The 228mm clutch has a solid flywheel, the odd thing is if it was four wheel drive or DSG, it would have a DMF.
  40. I went up Beachy Head last night, just before sundown. The clouds had other ideas, but just as I went to drive off the Sun peeked out from under a cloud: It's funny how I can never quite catch the warm glow that was below it. Gaz

I picked up mine as planned, today around noon. Overall pleasantly impressed, even found 2 extra-options I had no idea about: one is the front parking sensors and the other are the pockets on the back of the front seats (including the small pockets for the phones of back passengers). Both were optional for Style trim in Romania when I placed the order, I didn't ask for either... Front sensors however were part of the ParkAssist which I removed from options sometime along the waiting time. I also have the Skoda logo projector under the front door - those are apparently standard for Style trim, or so the dealer mentioned. One important minus I noticed during the short ~60km trip today: there's a small cricket making noises from time to time (depending on road texture) somewhere in front of me, behind the wheel. It seems to be the shiny bit of trim on the dashboard, between the steering-wheel and left door - I pressed a bit harder on it and the creak stopped. ☹️ I confess I'm a bit obsessed with random noises inside the car; especially since it's really quiet inside - it could be due to the soundproof front-side windows I included as option. L.E. Oh, I remembered to check what @Jettamc22 was asking on the previous page. So, if yo want to see the gear number, simply flick the DSG-changer from D to S; on S it will continuously show the #gear. For my taste it's almost mandatory, because I found the car was cruising in town at around 60 km/h with ~1.200rpm (that's not great for the cat-converter and for the FAP). Once in S, it immediately shifted 1 gear down, with no other input from me on the gas pedal. The second way to see your gear number is to use the shifting-pads behind the steering-wheel; the DSG will go into Manual mode and you'll see the #gear. However, it doesn't automatically go back to Automatic mode after a while. You have to pull back on the DSG-changer and it will come back to Auto - the last mode that was used, either D or S...
  43. Harder to sell aswell when you want to down the track. Only certain buyers will want this colour
  44. I did my usual return trip of 320 miles in an efficient diesel instead of my EV. 115ps 2.0 TDI 7 speed DSG 21 plate Golf. I enjoyed it very much. Missed heated seat and steering wheel and physical buttons. 80 miles of 60 MPH limit roads getting 70 mpg average plus displayed & 240 miles motorway getting 60 + mpg displayed. I used 23 litres brim to brim. 5 gallons, so an average 64 mpg.. 177.9 pence a litre. ****cost £41. **** Usually with just paying for a 30 minute charge at Edinburgh airport it cost me about £7. Other charges are free, before i head off, then first charge after 65 miles then after 90 miles then the Edinburgh charge after 99 miles home. Then free charging gets done. That is lots of charging time on sometimes hopelessly slow chargers. But if i was paying 35 pence a kWh and getting 3.1 miles per kWh which i would in this weather that would be 103 kWh so ****£36.13.**** At least 90 mins charge time needed, often much more. @ 50 pence a kWh then £51.50. 69 pence a kWh then £71.07 £1 a kWh £103. That would be crazy. Average speed showing is odd as @ NSL's with only a few miles in total through 30 mph villages. Yesterday when showing 80 mpg plus for about 10 miles after filling up the range was showing 620 miles.

Sorry Kingelk but don't know how to get your comment to appear for my reply. However, it is a DSG auto and the reason I want to see the gear because I've found in other cars, my Kia and before that a VW Jetta, as I use Cruise Control a hell of a lot that at say 49mph it can be in 6th but by increasing it to 50mph it will slip into 7th and save me money on petrol/diesel. Again sorry Sk0mk4 but your comment regarding Sport mode sounds good and i'll try it, thanks. And to everyone else - Once you've moved to DSG auto you'll never go back.... absolutely superb and better than other automatics. Also the Adaptive Cruise Control I was dreading as previously only had ordinary CC and thought how much fuel it would waste braking and slowing down. On my first motorway trip yesterday very pleasantly surprised - makes driving that little bit less hassle and by having a short distance and good observation so you don't get hemmed in and overtake in plenty of time, it doesn't need to slow you down much but is so good in a queue.
  46. Skoda seem to not be prepared to even make an effort to get on building a Small or medium EV and have a product many of their traditional customers might want. A passenger EV that the Taxi / Private car drivers / customers could purchase instead of the Octavia used by many around the world should have been a priority. Skoda Enyaq's do not seem to be the vehicle getting bought for that purpose. Then small EV City car / delivery van was something that should have been another one they could have produced for hire companies, fleets etc.
  47. The smart meter messaging is all wrong. The point of smart meter is to allow time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go. Also got to remember direct debit is meant to be average over 1 year. Winter costs go up by a lot, so only having a few £ in credit going into winter wouldn't be enough. That's why they want to rise your DD payments. I like to be in excess whenever possible. So I don't mind overpaying and have pretty much always been in credit for energy companies. I got around £300 back from Bulb when I switched away in June. Same. 3 bed house with zero cutting back on consumption, many smart home devices on 24/7 and all miles on electric. I was thinking £186 pm seems reasonable and was prepared for over £200 pm DD given "typical household" will be £208 without electric cars. Octopus Email says they've stopped advertising and are 4% cheaper than price guarantee. Meanwhile I'm still seeing Shell energy supplier adverts on reddit. Once a fossil fuel greedy corp, always a greedy corp.

I did find this last night, handy if you ever wanted to know the names. https://www.schemecolor.com/skoda-auto-logo-colors.php @skomaz How's that for good timing 🤣
  49. The bottom of a beer can also works quite well. I couldn't get a genuine part, but Staropramen is Czech, so I thought that's probably as close to OEM as you'll find.
  50. So slow down, extend the EV range and continue charging at home. Less than a hundred pound spent for 8000 miles!
