  1. Sunday update. Car looks the same as yesterday apart from the bumpers now painted inside and the carbon dipped fog light surrounds are fitted. Had both front wheels off to give all the arches a blow out with the Tornador which has a weak mixture of Bilt Hamber Surfex HD in it, this cleans off the collected dust and after a wipe with a microfibre they’re as good as new. Polished the wheels in and out as they were caked in dust from sitting. So that’s the front end done. I’ve started deep cleaning the back now with the Tornador with a view to finalising the exhaust set up. I have been messaged by a Fabia fella on the “socials” saying he’s got a Milltek back box so I’ll wait and see if it comes good.

    I never understood why people put some kind of protection on their doors. The problem are other people slamming doors into your car and not vice versa. 😁

  4. Yeah, but what you need to understand I often talk utter bollo*ks and ****e! Where the heck I got that from is beyond me, but on this occasionI do have an excuse; I’m blaming the C19 booster and flu jabs I had yesterday PM and I feel I cr@p… 😂
  5. 235/35/19s are not OEM 272/280 tyre size as well bro. The OEMs size are 235/40/19. 245/40/19s are only 1.1% larger than the OEMs in diameter. While 235/35/19 are 4% smaller than OEMs. And consider the speed shown on the speedometer is actually higher than real speed (100km/h on speedometer while the real speed is 97ish), go with 245/40/19 is a much better option than go with 235/35/19.
  6. Rubber seals around body frame that supposed to seal the door and the frame of the car. They get hard due to the age and water manages to pass through. If they are ok, see under the car if the rubber bungs are missing.

    The spreadsheet is to me a great source of information. I sorted the spreadsheet by engine type and what it showed was not good news for those waiting for a PHEV. Not that this is unexpected. But it is interesting to see what within the small sample we have is being delivered and when. Its good to see cars being delivered month on mouth even if they are not comming in the numbers or as fast as we would lik. It was but a few months ago when nothing was turning up. Could I ask that those with an entry on the sheet keep it up to date and those who have ordered and are waiting for a new Octavia Mk4 to consider adding your details. In the absence of honest accurate information from Skoda it is the best source available to us.

    Got a call Friday from the dealer telling me that the car arrived in UK earlier this week. And should be at the dealer Monday. So long as no issues with PDI then fingers crossed I can collect the weekend. Happy days. Been waiting since aug 21.

We flew into Heathrow from Australia in late August and picked up our pre-arranged Vauxhall Corsa rental from Hertz at Heathrow It was the second cheapest option, the cheapest being a Picanto which I did not think would be quite large enough for our two sizable suitcases and carry-on luggage but they fitted in the Corsa comfortably. The Hertz guy offered to upgrade us to a more economical Toyota Hybrid, which I was quite keen to do until I realised he expected us to pay an extra 20 pounds a day for the privilege... so I declined. First impressions were not positive, Visibility from the driver's seat was not good, I was bobbing my head around the obstructions presented by the rear view mirror and the A pillars like a Cockatoo on a perch as we made our way out to the M25 during peak evening traffic. The 1.2L 3 pot engine seemed gutless and coarse under acceleration and the projected mileage on a full tank was only 422 miles, however by the time I had got to Essex the projected distance has risen to 495 miles despite having covered 60 miles, so at least it could be economical. Handling was average and the steering provided little feedback, the ride was comfortable enough most of the time but did not like sharp bumps and all the windows were like portholes compared to our Octavia wagon and Toyota Echo back home and awful for sight-seeing people like us. The lack of performance turned out to be my fault as both our owned cars have relatively sensitive throttles, the Toyota with little pedal travel and the Octavia pedal only needing to depressed to the point where the turbo cuts in and it takes on a life of its own. The Corsa just needed more and more throttle as the revs rose and then it could attain its official 13 second dash to 60 mph. The other thing for me to adjust to was that that kph displays increases a lot quicker than mph (doh!) . The engine still felt coarse when under any pressure but was ok when cruising However the car proved to be very economical achieving 60mpg overall and 65mpg on a run ( I stuck to all the speed limits which few others did) and even got about 40 mpg in peak time Outer London traffic. As there was no manual it took me a while to work out how to access and reset the trip meters but when I did I found that over the last 6500 miles the car had averaged 22mpg averaging 18 mph and I have no idea how they got that. I did a 30 mile return journey using the North Circular to Hampstead Heath with the return leg entering peak period traffic and averaged 60mpg at 21mph. The car had a fairly high level of accessories, including very necessary reversing cameras and front and rear sensors, which is ridiculous in a small town orientated car. The interface with my Android phone was absolutely seamless as soon as I plugged in, and the Google maps guidance brilliant...most of time, but sometimes 'she was well off her game' and I would get conflicting instructions from her and my wife acting as back up navigator which got hilarious at times. Overall, it did what we wanted at a reasonable price and with good economy. I would have preferred a Fabia 1.0tsi but that would have cost more than twice as much to rent.

  14. Thanks varoom, my sensors are from ebay - 4 of them only 28£ so probably similar sourcing to your Aliexpress ones . I think I'll order another 4 from skoda-parts.com - they seem to have relatively better quality OEM sensors.
  15. Yes getting the basics right would be good. Lots of long journeys most of which have been done with a full charge from home. Nights away are when the superchargers come in to their own. with winter coming it will be interesting know what the impact will be. I’ve already been enjoying getting into a preheated car or the colder starts

  17. Five speed manual so the lowest power option. It was happiest at 65mph doing 65 mpg at peak torque 3k rpm. The 10 miles of 50 mph restrictions on the M20 and it was showing near 80 mpg returns. Quite remarkable really on basic 95 Ron with 10% ethanol.

  21. Phone your local stealership parts department and give them the reg plate or VIN and they will be able to give you the paint code
  22. I strongly advise you to use an auto electrician rather than a garage, you can't diagnose and repair this yourself, a sparks can probably come to the car and fix it quickly and cheaply.
  23. OBDeleven can do this easily. It takes 10 credits, which costs 2 euro. This will be significantly cheaper than investing in VCDS for the job (though VCDS is a great tool for heavy-duty coding).
  24. Finally had a chance to look at the Rapid. This 2018 UK Rapid does have a cover over the intake. More amusingly - having accused Joller79DK of living on a farm - found about a tennis ball's worth of mud in the plenum which had accumulated in there over the past 4 years. So that got cleared out.   25. If you have access to VCDS you can see the fault count increasing.   26. This sounds like a charging problem, you need to check the alternator field and sense wires where they pass through a connector next to the gearbox, from your description one or both of these is almost completely fractured but not quite.

  28. As long as your happy but Danny-B's suggestion would have been the cheaper option. If you're a cash buyer then forget all about PCP interest rates as they wouldn't apply to you. For future reference: 1. Purchase the car on Monday morning using PCP 2. On Tuesday morning log in to VWFS and request a settlement figure. Whatever you do, don't 'cancel' the policy, 'settle' it - there's a big difference. All you'll be charged is an administration fee ( about £20-£30 ), you'll pay no interest. But because you purchased via PCP you keep those PCP benefits. So you'd have had your extra year warranty, MOT and servicing all for no more than £30.
  29. The over inflation does NOT cause the rumbling noise, that comes from the saw tooth inner edge of the ( rear ) tyres. Thanks, AG Falco
  30. There is a VW minimum standard specification for oil and as long as what you buy meets that standard then it doesn't matter how much it costs does it? You're mistakenly conflating cost with quality instead of concentrating on value, it's an easy mistake that non-technical people make which is widely exploited by advertisers when marketing branded products. Buy what you want but don't kid yourself that treating your beloved car to fine wines and Belgian chocolates will make a blind bit of difference, it won't and the car certainly doesn't care.
  31. Test fit of the front bumper was a success. I even found the fixings after all these years. Bumper is back off now as I’m painting the inside edges, be back on tomorrow along with the fig light surrounds. Once it’s finally on I’ll give it a good clay barring then machine polish it. The 30degree boost hoses were an inspired choice, they take all the struggle out of trying to manipulate a short straight hose and fit almost perfectly. More pics when it’s all buttoned up at the front.

  33. Some dealerships are bad, have poorly trained staff, and treat customers as mugs. Go back to them, ask what quantity would be overfilling when needs adblue warning, then say that’s less than on my adblue receipt so how did it get overfilled, or was the sensor you previously looked out not fixed properly. Then ask them if they failed to fix previously why does that mean no longer covered by warranty. Or is not under warranty in this circumstance an error on their part. Don’t be surprised if the telephone person cannot find anyone in whole dealership that knows the overfill quantity (the technical section of Octavia brochure says adblue tank holds 13.35 litres)

    My bad tech skills, was attempting to reply to the above post. 😳 I too ordered through leasing company in Sept 21. My last build date had been scheduled for Aug 22 but was notified that it no longer has a build date so goodness knows when. From reading other comments, around 15 to 16 months for PHEV VRS seems to be the wait time so I'm holding out until around December or January. If I knew there was going to be such a difference in lead times for PHEV models compared to petrol or diesel I would have went for the petrol or diesel model. I checked the price if I was to order the exact car I have ordered with the same leasing company and price has increased from £360 per month (which I will be paying) to £623 per month if I was to order it now.

  43. My 2014 looks just like that. Not sure if there has ever been any sort of cover or splash guard there. I do have problems with water getting stuck either in rear right door or in the B pillar. Humidity is a problem.
