  1. @KyleTIf you can just open the Air Filter box and see if there is a clean fresh air filter in there. You can check the Pollen (cabin) filter and see that that has been replaced. The spark plugs should really have been changed by now on a 1.0 TSI so a record of that being done would be nice.

Having bought a Superb 280 2017 plate from Cazoo, maybe I can weigh in with my experience to help. Purchasing the car and collecting was an absolute breeze, but I was always wary of buying a car without having seen in person before hitting buy. They have a 7 day money back guarantee, so if it isn't as you expected, you can hand it back if needed and they also have a 3 month warranty, something which I exploited heavily. An absolute must if you are thinking of buying the car is to book it in for a health check at your local Skoda/Marshal garage, same day you pick up the car if you can. I believe this is a free/cheap service and well worth it, especially if you're thinking of taking out a warranty with Skoda called the all in (2 year service, MOT and warranty). The reason I got this done was because I wanted hard evidence if something was actually wrong with the car. Also check that they actually have the service history. I was lead to believe that it had the history present, but it actually turned out to be a couple of stamps in the book and a certificate that they had done an oil change, so I was understandably a bit upset by that as I like to have proper documentation stating what's been done. If they claim they have also done an oil change, make you check the level before driving off, mine was 1Ltr down on the dipstick and they filled it up before I drove off. They must not have checked it after filling it up and maybe didn't account for some staying in the filter. Anyway, after Skoda did the checks, turns out I needed the following doing: Front pads/discs New rear left taillight (water ingress) New Battery Broken rear passenger vent Missing spare key Much arguing with Cazoo later, they honoured it and replaced/sorted all the highlighted faults within the first month of ownership. But you really do have to keep badgering them to get it sorted. Channel you inner Karen and ask for the manager if you're not getting anywhere, 1st line support are unable to authorise any works and just send you in circles. Since then, car has been faultless! (knock on wood) Anyway, I hope that helps.
  3. So, quick story….. I bought my 2018 L&K 272 last August. The steering / tracking has never felt right. I sent it back to the original dealer for the tracking to be sorted (amongst a few other things). It was better, but not perfect. I then paid three times for the tracking to be checked. All three times (🤦‍♂️) I was told it was spot on, but the car didn’t feel right as the wheel kept turning itself very slightly to the left. I was an unhappy bunny. Whilst wondering what to do next, I went ahead with my Stage 1 plan through Avon Tuning. It is now a L&K 350 💪🏼 Yesterday was a big day! I took it to Skoda (my local dealer rather than the one I bought it from). I said, “I bought this car Used Approved 7 months ago, and there is something wrong with the steering. Please help me sort it! PS the suspension is creaking too, and it shouldn’t be at <30k miles”. Result: Two new front suspension bushes, steering angle sensor discovered to be 3% out and rectified (the culprit!) and tracking redone. All sorted under the Used Approved Warranty. My larger, family-sized, tech and toys-laden ‘Golf R‘ (although probably even faster) now drives as it should and is unbelievable!! Happy man. Thank you to Heritage Skoda Weston super Mare!! You have done an amazing job! 👏🏻👏🏻
  4. I had to trim the new turbo outlet pipe by 40mm each end, duct tape happens to be the correct width I cut down the original dump valve hose and managed to get it back on the dump valve and new intercooler pipe by swearing at it and using boiling water to heat it up On the hot side I had to flip both of the horns by taking them off their brackets and remounting them upside down Finally I had it all put together, this section took the longest to work out, its very tight in there now and I'll reroot some of it at a later date to make it easier to work on Pretty sucessfull weekend, of course of knocked all of my knuckles off but thats a small price to pay
  5. Looking forward to this. Favorit with 1.6 16V and AC - that'll be like RS Skoda never made Btw, do you think that variable volume compressor from Golf would work with Felicia system?
  6. iirc, Mondeo had 54 or 60mm front pistons, Polo GTI also has 54mm, too, according to my quick search - 54mm is same as Felicia, so I think that it should work perfectly. 60mm could cause some issues with brake balance with Polo rears.
  7. Are you sure it's not just a plastic nut cover that's not on properly? I've seen some serious tyre monkey-ry, but getting a wheel bolt that cross threaded would be a huge achievement.
  8. Thanks everyone. I’ve been for a drive today and it does seem like the issue for me is not applying enough pressure on the accelerator to get the car to downshift and accelerate. I will try and find some service information on the car. Failing that I may just take it to have a full service, get everything ticked off and then work from the graphics you guys have supplied. Out of curiosity, do you all go direct to Skoda for servicing or do you have garages you trust/have used previously to do the work?

Agreed, sound advice this. They are quite different to drive. Same excellent engine & gearbox and big practicality.

Test drive both to make sure what your preference is. The 272/280 Superbs are real gentlemen's rockets, but their day-to-day MPG can be challenging, if fuel economy is any concern to you. The vRS 245 Octavia is much more "sporty" and the handling and ride reflect this. They're cars with very different characteristics, so it's worth trying both. That Superb with the dodgy MOT history is definitely one to avoid. It sounds like it's a right lemon.
  11. @EnterName Yes I’ve had a couple of Mondeos in my time too, they were good motors (estate was massive) ULEZ is only of concern if you are going through the city centre, if not then not an issue or you can pay if infrequent use. I don’t think it’s been the environmental panacea they say, and all it’ll do is move emissions to the inner ring road (this bypasses the Birmingham ULEZ) for the people that live next to it to breathe in (while paying to use older cars of course) My Diesel VRS was a good motor but used to drink oil, also being Euro 5 would have been too inconvenient for me with Birmingham’s ULEZ as I’m in the city centre quite frequently. I’ve gone petrol too and the mpg is nowhere as near as good though I do enjoy the quieter cabin but miss the low down torque, strange though how the diesel prices have stayed so much higher than petrol, takes the sting out of it slightly. I guess electric is on the cards in the future but doesn’t make financial sense for me at the moment and doing lots of miles I keep reading about the infrastructure / charging horror stories a but that’s a different topic!
  12. Good news that you keep your EV for us who care about total CO2 emissions and hopefully it will be economically good for you too. Challenging times ahead with using economical chargers and a big lack of readily available information as to get good range out of EVs, especially in cool weather. Even in mid April my Zoe is only showing 176 mile range on a 97% level of charge, not going to win new converts over with sub 200 mile range for those who need to do proper distance in EVs. But there are ways of increasing this but it requires research and adoption of techniques the average motorist probably does not want to get in to. I think charger wars for those "in journey" chargers, trying to rip us of with rates of 79p per kWh will melt away as more and more places, pubs, fast food outlets, even recreational centers, have chargers in the 25 to 49p per kWh range and more of us will use them, even if they are only 7 to 22 kWh inc 11 and 16 for those of us who can use 3 phase AC, as we will take out time on the journey, stop for a bit to eat, charge the car and go on our merry way and then those powerful DC chargers will drop their rates to 59 or 69 p per kWh or go out of business. 1,000 to 2,000 charge points being added to the network each month so choice is becoming more diverse. I happily recall my Audi A4 with its 130 hp 1.9 PD engine clattering along, 66 litre odd fuel tank and seeing almost 1,000 miles of range displayed after a fill up. No AdBlue so polluting like a 20th century motor vehicle, NOX particularly as CO2 was probably quite good with it doing over 60 mpg, similar with the A3 but not such a big tank. Many mid 2010s BMW diesels are Euro5 and not Euro6 so owners are trying to get shot of them to avoid big London and other cities ULEZ charges which I suppose is OK as long as they are well maintained and not smoking like a 19th century black country chimney as some wiesels that one sees on the road occasionally. Change is inevitable it is optimising the sweet spots in these changes, tax advantages as well to preserve as much income as we can in these ultra high peace time taxation times needed to pay down the UK astronomic debts.
  13. What a amazing difference in starting the car now in cold and warm weather. The battery was worth it in the end plenty of power.
  14. Couple more from Attenborough.........
  15. I started most of my driving life using manual transmissions. Over the last 10 years or so I switched over to auto's, I've owned several, including torque convertors, now onto my second dsg box, same as yours, although mine is twinned to the 1.5t engine. I'd say my dsg box was as responsive as any other auto I've ever driven (CVT's seem to be about the worst), there is a slight lag between changes when accelerating from a roundabout etc. I've not found this to be significant though. I personally much prefer auto's now to manual boxes, find them smoother. I've never once though that my dsg box was unsafe, always found it smooth & reliable at all times, never sluggish to take off from a standing start. If you are not happy with it take it back to the dealer & explain your issues. You have the most protection legally speaking for the first month after purchasing a used car. Some autos have a bit more throttle play than others, this can be decreased by myself selection sports mode, but to be honest I rarely use it, I just put my foot down harder if required.
  16. The Motorist at Sherburn in Elmet ran a Skoda day yesterday, which I went over to. Quite well supported, probably a few guys and gals from this site. Blue VRS seemed to be the dominant car! some nicely modified cars, particularly liked a Superb Estate on bags (not normally my thing but this just looked “right”), anyway some pictures for those who couldn’t go..
  17. Look, a PD130 will run on a GT1752 without a remap but it won't run well so don't listen to retards. Why on earth would you want to spend an extra £150 on the wrong turbo unless you're going to do it properly with a FMIC conversion, new clutch and fly and yet another remap which will all add up to a lot more money (about £1500 more in fact) together with a load of DIY work just to make the intercooler fit. So just stop overthinking all this and get that car fixed and back on the road before it ends up in the spares and repairs section on eBay.
  18. That sort of spreading rust is more likely to take a hold on a vehicle where the barkes are rarely and gently used, no good deed gose unpunished. Sorry for any typos
  19. Did all those things, washing etc. never did much good at all. Think the return spring was just code-F. High mileage car.
  20. Airtec intercooler install The intercooler is installed and the results are really good. I'll start by showing the before and after data logs because aside from the kit looking smart it really is all about the performance after all. This is the air intake temperature with the original side mount intercooler. Starting at 18°C it steadily rises to 49°C by the end of the pull, an increase of 31°C. This is the log from today with the new front mount. I'm suprised that the intake temp actual went down from 17.2°C by 1.5°C to15.8°C from the start of the pull and didn't show any rise until after 5000rpm where it reach a maximum of 18.8°C a total rise of only 1.6°C The result in these lower temperatures are also evident in the timing logs. This graph shows the timing pull on each cylinder during the high intake temperatures, the ECU is pulling 3° from the base timing because it is detecting knock, this is reducing the power that the engine makes. With the new intercooler the ECU isn't detecting any knock 🙂 Here are some pictures I took during fitting the kit. I had to trim the crash bar for the intercooler brackets and the plastic cowling at the bottom The pipe work on the cold side was very easy to fit I has to trim the corner of the air vent on each side of the bumper to clear the intercooler bracket I shaved part of the turbo intake pipe to clear the new turbo outlet pipe

Dealers are charging upwards of £700-1000 now for a tdi timing belt. I offer them for just under £500 at the moment if it’s any good to you and you’re near north London. Had a few customers get quotes from independents ranging from £400-800
  22. My Karoq 2.0 tdi 4x4 has 45k on clock and still on original discs and pads all round . Told at last service my fronts are 50% worn and rear about 70% worn but still ok I di a lot of motorway miles and tow a caravan but I drove carefully and use the gears . It amazes me how many cars I see driving on brakes rather than dropping a gear
  23. +1 re the paddles. My chosen country road overtake is to drop two gears using the left paddle and then when I am done just hold the right paddle for a second and it goes back to the previous driving mode. tom
  24. The plastic two way connector is definitely plugged in. Purely coincidental that I happened to take a screen grab just as his hand was on the threaded connector without realising the significance of what it was.... From the top of the engine bay i cant make out at all whether that is or isn't connected up - might have to get underneath it tomorrow and have a look. Cheers for the help Pete
  25. I left the Skoda network as soon as my warranty expired because my nearest Skoda dealer has terrible access and my preferred alternative is miles away. I use a specialist VAG servicing garage and they are able to access the Skoda online service database and update my service history. They're not cheap, but they seem to do a reasonable job. Edit: Just nipped out and checked the independent VAG specialist I used to service my car on Friday had reset my service interval indicator correctly, and they had. That is better than the Skoda dealer managed first time when I took my car to be serviced there while it was under warranty. They sorted it out there and then when it was pointed out, but it's a rookie mistake that a main dealer shouldn't be making.

Yep, so go for it. You’ll love it. Perhaps buy a warranty elsewhere? Skoda or Warranty Wise? As ever do you research as regards what the warrant actually covers. Or instead, put £50 per month to one side and dip into the fund if needed?
  27. I can confirm that both my slots are working, i now have nearly 9999 songs (56gb) in slot one and satnav card in hidden slot 2 leaving the usb slot available for android auto, I'm one very very happy Fabia owner.
  28. I added another link with another unit at approx same price from a different seller. Lots of choices. The passenger side ones are 'slaves' to the driver's side ones, and are generally more reliable, but at these prices maybe it's just nice to have one to try. Really the main measurement is to try to prove that 12V exists between the thick red/white wire (permanent 12V supply) and the thick brown wire (earth/chassis) at the connector for the window motor, to be sure it is getting power. There is another wire that is a data connection between the two, the grey/whites I mentioned in an earlier post. You could measure resistance/continuity from one end of each of those wires to the other, by unplugging connectors at motors and A-pillar. Or come to visit Oxford for a day in the car and let me. 😁

For example. But also check your wheel center after a drive; the should not be warm or hot.
  30. Did the mechanic divulge his wisdom about what he considers incorrect in the desin of the backplate which would cause such corrosion? It seems to be the week for mechanics speculation on front brake disc dust shields!
  31. 1 point
@ Skoda Main Dealers it can be POA now. So pick a number any number according to the vehicle. Prices are getting to be like this in 2023 though.

My cars getting a new steering wheel soon and I've a long list of other faults to be looked at while it's in - I'll add the wheel corrosion to it lol
  34. 1 point
There has been the issue with various Skoda alloys & corrosion (white worm) for 2 decades. Try a google (search engine) like 'briskoda alloys white worm' or briskoda alloys corrosion warranty Usually the dealership employees dismiss it as being your fault, environmental conditions, products used etc. But them rejecting any claim is not their job, their job is to get the pictures, maybe have the Warranty Manager or someone who's job that is to arrange to have the corrosion / wheel inspected. They are getting really awkward on Warranty Claims, but you need to act like the spider in Robert the Bruce's cave.
  35. I dunno; do the instructions mention serpentes lubrication?
  36. There are some high-current fuses at the front of the under-bonnet fusebox, with heavy cables bolted to them. No. 2, the second one from the left as you look at them connects alternator output wire to battery positive. Check that with engine off you can measure the same voltage on the wire going to that fuse, as there is at battery positive. It's a huge (400Amp) rated fuse, but if that had cracked or something, it would mean the alternator could not get any charge to the battery.
  37. Whoever told you about the DSG knew nothing about them then. The DQ200's were early DSG's and do not need oil changes. So you are OK there. (So it is wet clutch DSG's that get Oil or Oil & filter changes, early ones @ 40,000 miles, some now are first at 80,000 miles) As i said, a FMDSH or a FSH actually is a history of what is done, not just simply like Oil & Inspection Service, & Pollen Filter, then Extended Scope. You want to know when or if the brake fluid is changed, the spark plugs, etc etc. Spark Plugs were due at 4 years or 40,000 miles. The pollen filter twice by now. The Brake fluid is at 3 years then each 2 years. Not that those all get done, but they should be when someone is Servicing to the Manufacturers recommendations, guidelines of schedule. If not been done, it is a 'Full history of stuff not done'.
  38. I found an official workshop manual for the mk3 online for purchase. It covers everything that the dealer needs to do prior to delivery and everything related to servicing and maintenance of the vehicle. It wasn't too expensive to buy £15ish but it's got over 8000 pages with detailed instructions on how to do everything on and in the car. If anyone wants a copy use this link
  39. Cheers for the heads up, will probably route it down at the sill area to avoid the airbags as don't want to obstruct them.

For those new to the forum here there is spreadsheet for tracking Skoda Octavia Mk orders and deliveries. Feel free to add new orders. This spreadsheet gives a good idea of what is actually happening. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17h4myLSMpZ3dohgDJX25mkOhKLbyepEaeEeYcA3AqFY/edit#gid=0

  43. Just stick with standard if you don't want to remap it again.
  44. Different tweak. Circa high tech systems, we had a different form of protection. W were all good neighbours. The would bees would get spotted by a neighbour and other folks told. System still exists, today. Its called Neighbourhood Watch. Simple concept. It gives the limited police ( no political comments intended, please) a lot more eyes in residential streets. Perhaps it's time to return to a simpler life and see those around us as neighbours and friends, where we all protect each other. No need for high solutions, my other addition is( for those at home for part of the day) a rescue dog.
  45. Washed mine after its first 1k miles:
  46. @z1ts Lovely. Just a heads up. Pictures show it is a DSG. You do not say that in ad or if a TSI or TDI. Just mentioning because the same happened over the gearbox in an ad for a Yeti.
  47. I looked into Skoda Ayr today to show my partner a Kamiq and try for size and maybe a Scala as looking to order a car in May with Motability. So plenty Kamiq outside & Fabia or Karoq,s & she spotted the one Green Scala and a there were Enyaq's including a vRS Coupe parked right at the door. The salespeople were busy so i sat in a Kamiq Monte Carlo, wondered about and looked at the few cars in the showroom, no Scala though. Through to the SEAT showroom where the salesperson was busy so sat in an Arona, looked at a couple more, sat in an Ibiza and had a wonder outside to see if there was anymore Scala around to check out colors. Nothing about i spotted. Contact with staff was zero which suited me. I will get a Scala on loan from Skoda Dundee in the next few weeks and a Kamiq just for a bit of a comparison and see next quarter if the Advance Payment on the Scala is the same or less than the Kamiq's is and if so likely go for a Scala.
  48. @varooom don't be so modest, I started it but as I'm quite rarely here (typically when somebody pings me) you make most of this job now
  49. activate additional ambient light colours open the bonnet 09 central electrics - adaptations - interior light hmi config first and second value should be 7fffffff coding and ignition of, ignition on turn multimedia on , find ambient lights and shoul be activated additional 20 colours
  50. I drive a 2020 EV that makes no noise up to 15 mph because it was type approved before the legislation on it being required. I really have to be careful as pedestrians are crossing roads regularly into my path. Particularly as i turn onto side streets and they are in a dream. Not much difference from when pedestrians are on phones or have on headphones, hats pulled over their ears etc. Cyclists really get a surprise as i slow to pass them or even not slow as they are not aware i am there. Dangerous really driving in 'Stealth' Mode.
