  1. I honestly wouldn’t trust a Halfords “technician” to fit a tyre valve dust cap, let alone a Xenon bulb. And isn’t the wheel arch a simpler approach (and potentially less fraught) than removing a bumper to replace a bulb? I can imagine your sensors being ripped out again as the technician, with all of 1 hours training in every aspect of their day-to-day job, heaves the bumper off the car, complete with sensor and headlamp cleaner wiring and hoses all still attached, dropping the bumper on the concrete in the process, as they refuse to give way to the oafs abuse, attempting to deftly hang on to their attached parts. “Ooops… sorry about that mate; I fink it’s all OK though”. 🙄

  3. Good point, I will edit my posting to avoid any accidents. Really chuffed that you have solved th problem, thats 2 people who suffered the same problem this week!
  4. Problem sorted injector no 3 stack open replacement needed now back up and running

Why would you call the RAC if you're not a member? Might as well just ring a local firm direct and cut out a layer of profit. Or come to mention it, why ring the RAC at all, they just find any excuse not to come out then send a randommer several hours later. Options (assuming it's dead locked, so pulling an internal handle won't work): - Get a second key sent - Wedge the back door and slide something down to unwind the window if they're manual - Brick - lock pick / locksmith - order a replacement key
  6. I had a similar problem, 2015 Fabia estate. The wipers were on intermittent even when set to off, so I couldn't turn them off. I read some of the comments on the youtube video and managed to fix it without needing to do the entire steering-wheel-off thing. I didn't bother disconnecting the battery but it wouldn't matter if you did. You have to turn the wheel so I left it on. Suggest you watch the above video anyway for background, then see below: Remove the casing round the steering column (one bolt underneath, two on the end facing you, turn the wheel 90deg to access these). The bottom half comes off, the top half remains attached by a flap of trim cloth. Remove the rubbery trim from round the ignition key hole, and carefully remove the little trim thingy from the base of the stalk - the tang nearest you can be pulled very gently toward you with the end of a little flatblade screwdriver, then the trim comes off. Its very fragile so watch out. Remove the connector from the back of the wiper stalk (he shows how in the video). Until you plug it back in, I suggest you don't turn the ignition on in case it logs a fault. Now, if you look carefully you will see a little vertical slot in the side surface of the casing that the stalk mounts into, near where the connector is located. If you peer in you can see the glint of the contacts in the back of the stalk base. It looks like this slot is there so you can clean the contacts without taking it all to bits. I do NOT suggest you poke anything into the slot - all you need to do is use some contact cleaner spray and squirt it into the slot using the tube on the aerosol. In the pic attached I am pointing at the slot with a screwdriver, but repeat - do not poke anything into the slot. Or if you do, don't blame me if you break something. Give it a good blast with contact cleaner, and wiggle the stalk, repeat until convinced. I also shot some cleaner in around the base of the stalk. You could probably use WD 40 if you really can't get some contact cleaner, but it is readily available and very useful for, well, cleaning contacts. Plug the connector back in, and test it. For me, that fixed it
  7. Yes, and yes. I'll send you a private message with a contact number.
  8. ^^^ Lots of people with Smart meters signed up to GREEN Electricity, possibly higher users of electricity, charging EV,s etc, getting paid in some times to use less or plug in and charge the car to help balance the grid. Just the con that is for a future story on how you can con fool some of the people much of the time but not fool all the people all of the time.

  10. In 2022, 40% of electricity came from renewables. So 40% supplying 65% of the domestic market? Does that mean no business or industry can claim to be using renewable energy? Households have consistently ranked as the largest electricity final users in the country. In 2022, households in the UK consumed 96 terawatt-hours of electricity, or roughly 35 percent of the total consumption.11 Oct 2023 So there is a bit left at the moment then
  11. Yep, mobile phone does exactly that. Thanks chaps for helping out.
  12. What is "this"? @Gizmo may be correct about the washer bottle, or it may be that you are getting a warning about a seat not being locked in the upright position because it is slack. (argument based on 2 warning lights showing)
  13. Thanks Guys, Last Monday when I last used the car I went through several floods around here in Somerset, only slowly in 2nd gear of course and no deeper than 9 inches. The next day was when the clutch wouldn't disengage, so I wonder if water had caused the problem but not sure how? Just before I went away for a few days , I tried one of the suggestions above. I started the engine to warm it up, turned off the engine, put into 2nd gear and started the engine with the clutch depressed. The car jumped forward for a few yards, then I braked to stop it going onto next door's hedge, (they wouldn't like that). Made no difference though, the clutch was still stuck. I have been away for a few days, back now and just tried it and 'hey presto' everything is back to normal, drove it up and down the road so hopefully problem solved. Taking her in for the MoT on Tuesday, so hopefully all OK for then. Thanks again, guys.
  14. ... the electrical auxiliary pump which can run even when the engine is turned off.
  15. All a load of guff when it is pretended that wood pellets brought supposedly on ship that run on LNG Carriers to the UK to be burned at DRAX is renewables & green energy. Then is receiving Billions of £ in subsidies. So much electricity is produced or can be in Scotland yet not used as the National Grid does not take it or can not take it. The pylons are required & the Sub Stations which are huge, the semiconductors are are required and the offshore substations and generators / converters. Chicken and egg and the chickens are there, the eggs can be there but no transportation to get to the customers who rather buy from abroad for more money because tied into contracts. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-67126815 The inward investments have been there & is there, then the UK government let the offersea owned National Grid do as they like & keep taking profits and not being efficient or giving value to the UK and customers.
  16. Wait, are you referring to me, i can't tell. Well if you are, yeah I guess I'm that clueless😂😂 and no not a troll🤣🤣. Just learning about a new car purchased from those, with experience and better knowledge 😀
  17. No way is it overdue a belt according to VAG's current guidance, I doubt that it was even due the last one under the old regime. That said if the waterpump is to be changed then the cambelt might as well be changed yet again.
  18. By the end of this month, I'd have had my Skoda Fabia 1.6 16v Sport 14 years. I bought the car new from my local Caffyns dealership, and until this month, have always had it serviced by them. For one reason or another, I decided to try a local independent garage; they made a good impression and appear to have done a good job. My annual mileage has dropped significantly since 2020, but I've still managed to clock up 143,000 practically trouble-free miles. The only significant item to be replaced has been the exhaust system. Here's my question. On the Service Report, the new local independent garage noted that I should check when/if the Cambelt needs changing. Looking through all of my Caffyns Service Reports, I'm unable to see anywhere a record of if this has ever been done. Is anyone able to advise a VAG recommended cam/timing belt change interval for this model? Thanks very much in advance.
  19. To encourage people to get a smart meter there will be all sorts of offers to make people believe they can have "cheaper" times. Once everyone is sucked in, using AI the provider will be able to work out when you are not in and offer the Cheaper tariffs at those times and hammer you when they know the times you cannot avoid.
  20. Yup got it. Very happy. Some small but useful improvements such as rear door Kessy unlocking, rear camera washing. Not to mention the 7 speed box and the virtual cockpit. The whole car just seems to drive much nicer.
  21. Nice try but I think it is more likely to save them paying for gas then encouraging EV owners to use more green power, especially if they have to buy that renewable energy. Remember, we have had off peak tarrifs years before there was renewable sources. If they can get more power used over night and other less demanding times, they make more profit. If the demand is 20MW and there generators kick out 50MW then they are missing out on 30MW of sales. Follow the money, it usually pays off.
  22. Sorry, but I'm not seeing any logic here, surely it's more a case of more power consumed than the grid can cope with so at peak times they are asking people to delay plugging the EV in, make that cup of tea later or earlier, do the weekly washing later in the evening or overnight to save them having to fire up more gas fired generators to cover the excess loading. This saves them considerable gas costs and thus uses more power at a time when the excess energy produced would normally just be wasted? Sometimes it really is the simple things that are true.
  23. I'd be surprised if the dampers from a Golf will fit a Superb even if they are both mqb platform
  24. Any 2 litre tsi or tdi will have a Wet Clutch DSG. The TDI will be a SCR (Adblue) user. The age of the car will decide which a 6 speed DQ250 or a 7 speed DQ381. A 2020 i believe will be a DQ381. As to a FWD 150 PS 1.5 TSI ACT then that is a 7 speed twin dry clutch DQ200.
  25. I noticed in a search ofthe web that you do a repair for these motors. Do you have any in stock. Its a 6Y2959802?
  26. Thanks, that was quick! And hi, yes this is my first post, but I've been lurking for some time picking up loads of useful advice. Not sure I explained very well - I meant can they get DAB+, rather than just the older standard DAB? Reason for asking - a lot of stations have moved or are about to move to DAB+ only, and I don't want to have the cost and faff of upgrading if can avoid. Cheers

Moved for you. I did similar years ago on a C reg vw van. Got it open with a coat hangar. progress they say… now you just need a laptop and a scanner good luck with it all. Idk if recovery services cover this.
  28. Our posts overlapped, from what you have said I am guessing the insert is a part that bolts on and fills the voids, is that correct?
  29. Assuming it's a manual... That sounds like you cooked the clutch.
  30. The thing is that there is not enough renewables generated anyplace near the UK for all these homes and Industries that supposedly are using it. There could be, but as it is taking electricity from overseas is how the nonsense works while paying out to people in the UK who might not even have their money in the UK economy and off in Tax Havens and oversea territories. So we might be able to guess just which Political Party they might support, or actually they will hedge their bets and back all of them.
  31. As was mentioned by @spcdust, a software update to 1941 and the SOS unit updated too should resolve it. I had the SOS unit replaced about a year ago which might also be an option. Mine has been nigh on perfect for several months since 1941 was installed. My suggestion is to build good rapport with the dealer and it’ll help in the long run. My frustration over the three years has been with the car and Śkoda, treated the dealer as an ally in getting it fixed.
  32. David Cameron when a MP & PM took his clique to China including his wifes father and signed up for lots of steel and wind turbines. The wifes Step Fathers family, The Astors have lots of land hosting wind farms. The Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats when in government with the Labour party in Scotland is the Mr Big of onshore Windfarms and offshore ones now, Baron Nicol Ross Stephen. Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon MSP went on with the close relationship with China. We got the privilege of paying millions to be able to lease Pandas for Edinburgh Zoo. Now Scotland can generate electricity to supply about 6 times more homes than there are and also industry several times and have 1 nuclear power station due to close and yet pay among the highest standing charges and tariffs there are in the UK. Plenty are profiting though. Land Owners, Developers, those managing and running the turbines or not even running them, just collecting for them not generating. What a bl00dy nice little earner it is for those and such as those.
  33. Just a small point & OT, but also on topic. 'They' want to have people stop using Peat to burn or for agriculture. Lots of trapped carbons. Fair Enough. Do there are Wind Farm / Turbine built where Peat is removed, supposedly reinstated. Kidology. But then lots of GREEN Environmental stuff is SMOKE & Mirrors and kidology. Real world. Follow the money. They will calculate what ever suits them filling their boots.
  34. Yes, from outside. Usually a bumper off job.

Never unlock the car and then place the keys in the boot if a door hasn't been opened, as once the hatch closes it will automatically lock. The car is designed to auto - lock after 30 seconds if a door hasn't been opened, ideal incase you accidentally unlock the car (very easy to do with the later key fobs as the buttons are flush) whilst the keys are in a pocket or moved.
  36. Thanks Kenny R, that worked perfectly, so no more going through large puddles I will just reroute 👍
  37. The Skoda official rims are actually very nice, I'd happily have most of them as my summer or winter wheels. It's just a shame the prices are so inflated. If they'd reduce them by >50% they'd sell a lot more...

You need to go to ACC and disabled speed limit preview
  39. Update to version 1800 was free for me, performed by car dealership, updated from 1760. Connectivity via cable works. Also purchased a license about 60 EUR for upgrading Smartlink to wireless and it works perfectly. After installing the license you need to re-pair your phone for Android Auto to work wirelessly.
  40. If you've got vcds, it's worth having a look at injector quantity and fuel rail pressure live data, particularly if you can get someone to watch the data while you reproduce the fault. An old-fashioned leak off test can also tell you a lot. Another suspect would be EGR valve needing a clean.
  41. Sounds like clutch stuck to flywheel due to driving through puddle. . Try selecting gear start engine when car lurches forward press clutch and slam on foot brake or handbrake and clutch should release
  42. I too wanted a full size spare. I now have it - a new full size wheel and a 215/55 R17 tyre (underinflated). Thanks to all on here for inspiration. Rim only sits slightly lower than boot floor but with tyre sits slightly higher. Some thick underlay is the solution - I found some grey stuff from a national carpet shop. The polystyrene inset in the spare wheel set had to be trimmed to fit inside the new rim so maybe there's a more appropriately sized version. Hopefully the photos answer any questions (they at least answer the questions I had before I started)
  43. Good odds that it is a seized shroud on the water pump! But will need to go to a garage for further diagnosis in person. When was the timing belt last done and what’s the current mileage?
  44. Bumper is cut, and 35x19mm mesh glued in place, looking great💪💪💪
  45. A lot more than a few days but its a remote possibility, the pedal feel being normal corresponds.
  46. At the risk of showing my age, I seem to recall once reading that if a new RR engine didn't use a specific amount of engine oil (IIRC, 1 pint in 1000 miles) the garage recalled it to rectify the problem.
  47. @fuzzybunny Have you tried putting into gear with engine stopped, then starting it? Make sure car is not likely to hit anything if it does lurch forward if it starts then stalls.
  48. My tuner has checked this and confirmed there is no counter counting number of LC's. No need to launch it 200 times, counter is visible. I think it is even visible by vcds. So, first versions of 280 pre-facelift do not have counter. Enjoy launching
