  1. @Winston_Woof When Suzuki do an Electric Jimny i will have one. @Graham Butcher It was not built to be top heavy, just for a purpose and that was to go any place a Quad could and in comfort. (Or where you might not take a Quad.)
  2. My Superb L&K from year 2020.
  3. The time has come and the Fabia has found a new home. I haven't posted much on this forum as life has got in the way while I've had the Fabia. Ownership had been a great experience and I've enjoyed every minute of the ride, I'll stay a member as you never know what will happen in the future. It's sad to see the car go, it has had lots of positive comments over the years ( except from my teenage daughter who couldn't get along with the colour 😄, personally I've loved it), been totally reliable, practical and fun, even if some of that was chasing max mpg rather than speed! I've also loved the fact that most other Mk1 VRS owners either flash or exchange thumbs up when you see them, reminded me of the old Beetle days and the camaraderie that went with ownership. I've attached a few photos for posterity, taken just before the sale. I think the new owners a member also so hopefully the car will stay on the scene and the record started by bonelorry (previous owner) will continue.
  4. I do quiet alot of short runs in my 2.0tsi vrs daily to work and i change my oil and filter every 12 months ,just peace of mind for the sake of 60 pounds .
  5. I know the guy who's bought this, so i've directed him to the forum.
  6. Gandalf's latest "project" is complete....Front Grille DRL light bar. Towards the end of last year Skoda released the new Kodiaq which has the front grille light stripe - I saw that and I decided that's my new project. The new mk4 Kodiaq... Been planning this since last year. I'm happy with how it's turned out. The light bar is connected to and controlled by the BCM, so it dims and brightens like the factory DRL, with the same coding. I used an empty lighting channel, Leuchte8F LB39. The front grille has an opening that is perfectly in line with the headlight's DRL - so perfect alignment for the light bar. The light bar I made myself, using an LED strip, a plastic holder, and a light diffuser. Fingers crossed that the light bar hold up against the elements. The light bar I made... Test fitting the clips to hold the light bar behind the grille. Mounted and wiring routed on the bumper to use the same path as the factory PDC and headlight washer wiring. Wiring from BCM was routed through the firewall, into the engine bay, they down to the factory wiring harness for the PDC and headlight washer.
  7. I am going to have to let Eon Next have a Smart Meter fitted after years of ignoring them and them missing appointments that were made and even them saying a Smart Meter could not be fitted at my house. I was starting a charge of the car and the meter should have read 90735 & it is at 60735. It was reading OK up to yesterday and i charged 32 kWh over night. I will leave it a week or 3 or until they next want a meter reading and then they can go by my usual usage. (Sadly higher than my usual 5 kWh a day since i started charging the car at home when the tariff dropped.) EDIT. Getting fitted Friday lunch time, or someone is coming to fit then. It could have been done today as an appointment was available.
  8. Right that Fabia is nice, but I'd like to know more about that Mk3 Golf...
  9. Having read all the OPs posts in the thread and think this is a conversation at cross purposes. 1.How often a manufacturer recommend services and what they entail is one thing. (minimum to maintain warranty) 2. How often you do it and what you do is another, it's your car you can do it when you want as long as it meets or improves on any warranty conditions if you have one. 3. A dealership sells service plans and that will have stipulations about what is done and when and what is included for the money. So from that i think it is the 3 that the OPs garage is saying cannot be changed. The message about when the next service interval is due that appears on the dashboard can be reset anytime.
  10. Glad it has gone to another good home, I bought the Fabia in 2017 off a fellow Briskoda member who had owned it from 18 months old. I sold it in 2020 to Richard who is a very close and long time friend of mine aswell as a fellow VAG-Nut. So it is good to know it is going to be appreciated by another enthusiast! I really should make a thread on here myself since I am back in another Skoda now 😁
  11. Just like Barbara Windsor or Dolly Parton , doesn't stop them looking good lol
  12. I hope it's a TSI (petrol) as that driving pattern won't suit a TDI due to DPF issues. I would definitely change the service interval to annual, and even consider a 6 monthly oil change.
  13. 2 points
@erehwon13 having a 7;speed DSG does not mean it is a DQ200 dry clutch. There are wet clutch 7 speeds fitted to 2.0 TSI or TDI,s or AWD. So what engine have you. 1.5 TSI or a 1.6 TDI? No oil change needed if you have a DQ200 and there are 2 oils. If you have a DQ381 then the service guidelines are at 80,000 miles. But £215 is a price from a few years back. And I would not wait till 80,000 miles.
  14. Given the quality of the work the photos demonstrate, check for the possibility of trapped wires by the engine mount and wash bottle. It is nothing to do with accuracy of timing, it is care of workmanship.
  15. A quick guide for the Octavia 4 (NX) platform car for adding the glove box cooling, a simple mod, demonstrated here on a RHD UK car. Tools Reqd: T20 Torx screwdriver Trim pry tool Parts Reqd: 5E0816355 (Valve/Vent) 5E0816311 (Air Hose) Skoda Parts Direct (in the UK) quoted me £28.58 for these. Step 1 - use trim pry tool to remove the passenger dash side panel. If you remove the airbag swich connector you'll likely get a fault code (definitely if you turn the ignition on with this disconnected), so have your VCDS/OBDEleven ready to reset this - or leave it connected. Step 2 - undo the two screws shown with black arrows, releasing the side of the glove box. Step 3 - unhook the glove box damper arm (orange arrow). Depress the tabs (green arrows) and allow the glove box to drop to its full extent. Undo the 3 screws at the top edge (black arrows). Step 4 - undo the two screws underneath the glove box at each end. Gently pull on the glove box and release it from the dash. Undo the 3 cables (2x lights and 1x light switch on the damper arm). Step 5 - squeeze the tab (green arrow) and pull the air distribution plenum towards you. Step6 - remove rubber blanking cap. Step 7 add hose. Step 8 - refit plenum. Step 9 - fit the vent to the existing cutout in the top of the glove box, and attach hose. Step 10 - "Refitting is reverse of removal" as the Haynes manual used to say. Enjoy cold air in the glove box! You'll note that whether the climate is set to Hot, or Cold, the glove box is always fed directly with cold air. Hope this helps someone!
  16. I likey, and the fitment and install turned as I expected/planned. However, after a few days now, in the day time, I'm not convinced as it doesn't have the same intensity as the headlight DRLs. It's the same colour temp, but the brightness intensity needs tweaking. I'll play with the adaptation values to see if I can improve its appearance during the day time. Not sure if that will help as I think it's the actual light diffuser over the LED that is making the intensity subtle. Might have to find a cover some that has lens or reflector properties.
  17. @Tdawber With apologies for adding to the bombardment of requests, I’d be super grateful if you could send this to me at [email protected] I drive a Skoda Fabia Se Tsi 2019 Cheers Max
  18. Most domestic properties can only charge at a maximum of 28mph. 7kw x 4? if we use 3.5 it's only 24.5mph When they give you a free hour you save 52.5p charging the car if you have the ev tariff? effectively your standing charge for the day? Good promotion to get more involved. If they get to 40% market share it's game over?
  19. I'd have thought the silicone spray would do the trick, might be worth taking the weather strip off the door at the bottom of the window so you can get better access with the spray.
  20. I replaced all 4 ignition coils with new original ones, the fuel consumption decreased significantly, and so far the check engine light has not come back on.
  21. It has ‘Sports Chassis Control with drive mode select’ with normal and sport mode for the shock absorbers. So i suppose not full range of adjustment like DCC if you want to be fussy.
  22. On a 1.4TSI the DSG will be a dry clutch 7 speed DQ200, problem reports on that combination are rare. I have the DQ200 with the 1.8TSI currently on over 65,000 miles with no problems (touch wood!).
  23. A Skoda Approved Used Car. Read stuff before signing. Read now as you can be mis-sold. As it is what have you agreed to? Did you get the Warranty Policy & T&C,s. A Salesperson is the least likely to know anything. Be sure to tell the Dealer Principal they need o get their Management sorted out, sales and dealership staff trained properly. In up-selling even, because the muppet you spoke with never took the Up-selling opportunity. Crap Servicing Plans, 2 Inspection Services etc, Fixed. Or just getting your car in annually giving a New Car Sales opportunity.
  24. Well it was the salesman so I guess he's just trying to get rid of my "problem". I'm asking an authorised service shop if they can help me instead, hopefully they can. I'm just a bit worried now that I have unknowingly entered into a service agreement with the car dealer based on variable service interval. Not sure whether that agreement covers a change to fixed.
  25. Great experience working for PW and then pwc. Amazing talent to work with but tough ask justifying ones £2k a day charge out rate. Buildings with Arboretums, make partner and you start off on more than quarter of a million and pwc has thousands of partners. Increasingly the action is in the Far East where it is even more franetic. Canada, Oz or NZ would have suited me in retrospect. Seem to have ended up in logistics somehow which I thought I might have done in the middle rather than the end. Started work at 15 as a Merchant Navy Engineering Officer cadet and finishing working for CMA shipping company uk logistics arm. Full circle.
  26. Was an employee of HMCE until offered double bubble to work for ones of the big six accountancy/consultancy firms. One is still cover by the Official Secrets Act, as amended, even as an ex employee of course. In the 80s the OSA was amended to include not to tell anyone, civil service or not, about "anything they do no need to know", very wide brief. I think it was fellow Plymouth girl Sarah Tisdale who told about the cruise missile storage at Greenham Common that tightened things up. So many good stories. Working with the SBS, the Investigation Division and as we have more powers than the police, ahh fun days, mostly not well paid except when on Cutter and preventive duties but a good pension compared to trying to save for a decent private "equity" based pension !
  27. Self composting brake disc backplate(s).
  28. @Ootoherethey changed filter for sure, even skoda main garage don't do it as regular dsg service. cca. 106000km
  29. Something I noticed whilst renting a Model 3, there is a strange lip in the Model 3 footwell. I think it is where the battery starts. In order to give the sense of lower driving position and/or attempt at accommodate large feet, Tesla have the heel rest area lower than flat area in front of the seat. But as soon as I move my feet back to rest on the flat part, feels like knees are at chest level. I personally found it difficult to get comfy whilst on AP. That lip probably wouldn't work well with large feet.
  30. Looks amazing and I do love seeing a “neighbour” out showing of the Skoda Brand ? ”neighbour” when compared to Australia
  31. I agree more people are time poor & income rich than are time rich & income poor, so most people will still favour the quicker route (which sometimes in Summer due to Grockels can be the non-motorway or non-dual carriageway route! - I've seen the M3 queued all the way from Southampton back to Camberley).
  32. I'm curious. As an employee of HMRC are you allowed to discuss potential future (or current) potential Government strategies publically? I know a friends wife I had years ago worked for HMRC Newport and they always had to be very careful about what they posted online(or even discussed in person). Anyways back to "I do not believe pay per mile will work as people will use the motorways less and drive through Cotswold villages and the like to take a shorter route, that will not go down well." , there may well be a small subset of people who will do their best to minimise their expenditure however I rather suspect the additional time required (and that is something that would increase if more people skipped the motorways) would keep most motorists on the routes they take already.
  33. I don't use Auto Hold, it doesn't suit me when scrolling slowly. Here is more of a question when the autohold is switched off, when I shift into position P, is it possible for the handbrake to be applied automatically.
  34. Well, just got home in Staffordshire after 12 days holiday in France. I never saw another 280 in 1500 miles apart from as we arrived at the duty free car park in Calais we literally both pulled up to passport control at the same time. I simply had to pull up alongside. My wife got a little thumbs up while I was stocking up on duty free.
  35. It does have a dual mass flywheel
  36. The TSI280 has become almost as rare in France as unicorns, due to the massive CO2 emissions taxes since 2018 (around 50% of the list price 🤯 🤑 😤 if new). And even if you think of importing a second hand one from another EU country (mostly Germany, Luxembourg, Italy or even Switzerland), this tax is still due with a slight reduction depending on the age of the car.
  37. A credible argument against you suggesting that it had a pre-existing fault which they should have picked up? It seems a reasonable response although I would have simply said it was operating normally when sold so were there to have been a fault we would have been unaware like yourself. Othe than taking it elsewhere for dismantling and paying for an independant engineers inspection of the clutch and flywheel and taking legal action if it is favorable there is not a lot you can do, a clutch is a wear and tear item and its life aside from defects is a function of how the vehicle is driven, I have replaced many worn clutches but never ever worn one out myself, yours could have been abused by the previous owner. £2300 sounds like a rip off though, I bet the parts are well under £300, get a quote from a clutch specialist.
  38. Thereby hangs the problem, we often go out as a family and the wife as well, and I do have to put my seat all the way back as does the son who sits in front passenger seat. If it was just myself, then there are quite few cars that would allow me to sit comfortably behind the steering wheel until you come up my second problem, I also have extra, extra wide size 15 feet that do not fit into most cars footwell,, even with auto's there is often not enough space for my left foot to sit to the left of the brake pedal.
  39. I know a giant 6'6" South Afrikan whose car of choice was the 300. There are few cars I do not put the seat right back to the stops and some smallish cars let you do it but the room behind that seat would be for primary school persons or younger. Use to be that many cars from certain countries seemed made for the smaller stature. Tried a Hyundai Coupe and it was just way too small for those over 6 foot. Original 10 foot long Mini could be setup to accommodate those 6 foot 6 but needed the stop tabs removed from the seat rails and the little bracket to drop the steering column down. Zero room for legs of the passenger. I will test out the Scenic on those well over 6 foot tall relatives but the spec looks fine for them, as long as there is not 3 across the back seats.
  40. More to report on this. I contacted a VAG group specialist today. He was totally booked up and suggested I contacted the original mechanic and gave him opportunity to put things right. I messaged him - he said that the timing was locked when he did the cam belt so it shouldn't be wrong, but that he'd strip it down and recheck and adjust the timing if necessary. He then said that the rear wiper issue will be a loose connection as he's tapped into it for the ignition feed. This rung alarm bells so I've removed the trim and found where he's connected the 12S wiring. He's connected both the red and blue cables from the 12S socket together (fridge and battery charge) and then connected these both into ignition feed he's found. The ignition feed cable he's connected to certainly isn't rated to carry the load that a caravan could pull from it. I'm going to go to a tow bar specialist tomorrow to get their opinion on it and get them to correct the work. I cannot believe what I've found. He's also mangled the 12S cable elsewhere - there are exposed wires showing.
  41. That tends to be ideal for the roads in the UK what with our max speed limit of 70mph and more chilled relaxed acceleration figures also help the economy performance without any sacrifice really. I have said it before, and I'll say it again, about 150HP is more than enough to keep up with modern traffic in the UK. As to the limo type cars you talk about, most cars less than that sort of size would require me and my family to have major surgery in to lop at 2" off our legs and maybe around our waistlines and still be able to carry 5 people and all the shopping. So it looks like I'm going to stuck with ICE for some time to come then. Now here's a radical thought as well, just maybe if the makers were to limit their electric cars to around 150HP, they would be able to squeeze much more range out of them and people would find that their tyres lasted longer and also maybe a large reduction in the number of accidents, and as an added bonus, insurance costs might actually come down as well.
  42. 1 point
    It will have component protection.
  43. That many erratic failure is almost likely to be the battery. You've done well that your battery has lasted that long. The car does need to be told that you have a new battery but Halfords or similar will do that for you.
  44. If you found no specific fault like an ABS sensor being defective, then it probably is time for a new battery. You've done well to make it last eight years. Someone will be along shortly to tell you whether the battery needs "coding" or not; this process tells the battery management system (BMS) that a new battery has been fitted and therefore the charging / discharge parameters will be adjusted to suit. The BMS will work it out eventually for itself if the coding is not done. The VCDS owners map shows a couple of possibly helpful VCDS owners near you if your OBD11 can't do the coding. A five minute job.
  45. I'm sorry about first post...
  46. Hi. If it's of any help at all we recommend these for vehicle security. Maybe they can offer you some advice. https://www.gapsecurity.co.uk/ Regards, Dan.
  47. So, hopefully the final update. After receiving the MCU back from ECU.de in Germany on Tuesday, I scheduled the time to refit it this Saturday. All in for the complete job it took less than 2 hours. We refitted the new supplied O-Rings on the MCU before install. Replaced the filter and refilled the DSG liquid gold AKA, Oil. I'm under warranty still for this work, already agreed. I purchased and will be reimbursed due to the fact the garage I purchased from is 3 hours drive away. I said I'd do it locally and cover the labour. They would pay the parts.
