  5. The Premium Diesel with more additives / cleaners is not causing the 100 miles a time regens. Likely just the same with standard DERV. The state of the EGR and DPF is what they are. Maybe getting away on some longer runs will help. Instead of the cost of buying additives use a gallon of diesel and take a 50 mile jaunt.

  7. Went to see the car, pile of crap. Wasn't done to standard, parking sensors were falling out, bonnet wasn't straight, and when I asked him what's with the oil mist on the engine he said it's normal. I didn't even drive it. Gave him the keys and said good luck. On the ether hand, I bought a honda CRV MK2 1 previous owner (honda themselves) with honda FHS 91000 miles , under sealed , 2.0 petrol with a K20A engine Auto. £3800.
  8. Regardless of fuel type, consistent short runs of only a mile or so as you propose are pretty much the worst thing you can do - the engine will always be running cold.
  9. I rather fear that you will have to resign yourself to early DPF issues. As far as I'm aware, there is no snake oil additive that will help.
  10. I tend not to get involved in debates on forums about additives because it gets a bit ridiculous, based on previous Subaru and Audi, Vw discussions over the years. It gets all a bit polarised. 'However' at 14 years old and short trips ahead, I would consider a pro clean of the system. Then, if you use additives I have found Miller ECO power max diesel good on lots of diesels and I still use it. Never had a DPF or EGR issue. Bye, out of here now...
  11. well, its loaded up again.. and i discovered in daylight.. the adjustable boot floor was elevated at pickup time 🤦 reult... a 6inch drop in the floor level, so combined with repacking such that i have 1 less suitcase to deal with, everything fit in the boot (just) and the carryon bags and pushchair (last trip for that thing!) are in the back seat between the spuds. at an aircon'ed softplay centre now, before we have lunch and then head to yond aeropuerto...

If oil level is around bottom of dip stick, probably about 1 litre - only put 1/4 litre in first, wait 2 mins, then wipe stick, recheck and repeat. Fill to upper level line. Do not overfill.

Looked up for 2012-2021 2.0 TDI - same VW spec, either 0W-30 or 5W-30. Did you check oil level before start of this trip - or after the last service?
  14. At least some of those 90% ICE cars that BMW make are being delivered by electric trucks. Electric Viking says BMW have bought electric trucks but I suspect it is a contract logistics arrangement between my company, CEVA LOGISTICS and BMW. In all we deliver about 4M finished cars and that can by multiple modal methods ie electric trucks as seen. We also increasingly use LNG powered ships to do sea movements of goods too in the effort to decarbonise.
  15. Thanks everyone, it's good to see the feedback is positive.
  16. Sorry mate, I was totally confused on varsions and skoda site display names. Pls take my apologies. I downloaded what u linked, and Ill try. Now it seems I wanted to update the same version what I alrdy have. (but it is wierd why tha main road 83 in hungary was updated ) I try the new file and give a feedback.
  17. yeah, except, i couldnt be arsed having an argument with them, as the missus was already fairly well sick of the travelling, baggage collection, 2 spuds being tired and fed up too.
  18. The Laurin + Klement all came with the maxidot as standard. So yes it will have a maxidot.
  19. If i get free power does that equate to infinity mpg ???
  20. Thought "downloaded" is a more appropriate term as i am not using the vast majority of the power today but will be using later in the week. Bit used in real time to do the washing and drying, about 10%, 90% of the power for later. Free is great, presumably lots of wind rather than lots of solar and not many users so Octopus can give a couple hours for free.
  21. Is it possible that the battery hasn't been coded to the car, that can produce some odd errors.
  22. I'm getting a BIT better, but not better enough, grrrrr. Metalworking isn't easy at all. Also I think I'm running out of gas. I've been working on making sure the metal I put in is at least lower than what is there so that filler is an option, that at least I have achieved.

Mk3 VRS diesels or anything with 2.0 tdi ea288 engines quite often consume some oil. Especially pre-fl imo. Not all of them tho. I believe piston rings were updated 2017. I think there is multiple threads about this even in this forum, google it if you are interested.
  24. The Tottenham chargers are at a service centre and were so busy Tesla staff and customers were struggling to get a charge. As you say, rammed with taxis. It shows ti me that it IS about price now there are choices. Tesla doing right by their customers by relieving the pressure from non-Teslas
  25. Well done. Mine dropped completely and had to drive 30 miles in subzero with slush all the way home. They never fail in the summer. Alasdair
  26. Misfires logged as fault codes require enough happening in a cycle. You have the EPC light on so there might be codes logged. Having them read is quite important. Essential really. Maybe get some Tesco Momentum 99 (99 ron min) in and see if any difference. Check the air filter, and have the spark plugs checked, and replaced if needed.
  27. Got the widow all working again the ebay part fit no bother
  28. PS: if selling via motorway, don't bother taking really good photos beforehand. You have to use their app to take photos and can't upload your own. I think the app disables any fancy camera software/post processing stuff, which I can understand. Good luck with any sale, second prices are strong at the moment (but might slow down closer to Christmas we get)
  29. 16" rims tend to weigh less than 17" rims. That should help reduce fuel consumption, but not by much. For comfort and economy, the 16" and 17" options on the Superb MK3 are far better than the 18" and 19" options. So perhaps concentrate on the availability and price of your favourite tyres to help choose between the 16" and 17" options. 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 steel rim (for Superb MK3) (8.47kg) https://www.oponeo.pl/felga-stalowa/alcar-kfz-8426#24360987 Set of four wheel trims for 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 steel rims 3V0071456 (for Superb MK3) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-poklic-hermes-16/p/3V0071456 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 alloy rim NYOTA (for Superb MK3) (9.9kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kolo-nyota-16-superb-iii/p/3V0071496++8Z8 6.5Jx17 ET41 5/112 57.1 alloy rim TRITON (for Superb MK3) (11.7kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/alu-kolo-triton-17-superb-iii/p/3V0071497++8Z8 Continental AllSeasonContact 2 215/55/17 94V (Euro label B B 70dB) https://www.camskill.co.uk/m140b0s8825p220589/Continental_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Continental_Conti_All_Season_Contact_2_215_55_R17_94V_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_70dB
  30. Not at all - nothing wrong with putting in an AGM battery, provided the battery adaptation is performed. I recently changed my EFB battery to an AGM one, and did the battery adaptation. Left is EFB+ Right is AGM
  31. As above, I think the mapping is also different between a Superb Sportline and the Octavia VRS which is designed to be a bit more hooligan. I found my Octavia VRS, albeit with the 6 speed box, to be a bit more responsive and raw. I think throttle response is the most annoying thing, but I reckon a TVS map (I dont have one but want to get one from the research Ive done) and a throttle box will transform the car. I dont think throwing more power at it is necessarily the right way at the moment, accessing the power in the right way is more of a priority.
  32. Probably a trim level thing whether all the possible lights work or not. Vehicle lighting seems to have degenerated into primarily being decorative as opposed to functional, over the last decade or so. Indicators keep shrinking and getting masked by adjacent lights. Sad really.
  33. Assuming you mean AGM type was and is now fitted, then you have coded it correctly. Factory or dealer must have made an error when coding original or possible previous replacement battery.

    That's very helpful.... Thank you
  35. This is a complete stab in the dark but as PC and laptop computers get on in years they can exhibit a fault where they can't hold the time correctly and this creates all sorts of other problems. This often comes down to an expiring CMOS battery. This lurks on the motherboard (I believe) and keeps vital functions such as time running when the computer is powered down and even disconnected from its power source whether that is mains power or battery. A new battery (often a C3202 or similar - a couple of pounds) and all is well again. The trouble is until you experience the problem - or read the problem pages of a well known computer magazine for the technically challenged, such as me - you won't have heard of this battery or that it has a finite life. I'm wondering if there could be something similar happening with your unit - there is something, whether a small battery or somethng cleverer - that holds key data if the primary power source, the battery, is removed from the car and this has now reached end of life. After all the car is now getting on for 10 years old. It would do no harm to ask the main dealer or look for an independent specialist in car audio.

As several posters have pointed out, your engine will be 1.0 (not 1.1TSI) Is there any misfiring when you get this problem? I would not absolutely rely on scheduled servicing actually being carried out fully.
  37. @MartiniB normal success screen on the all Europe map. Haven't checked the others yet. Not sure whether they might have messed the road top speed signs up (again). Seemed to be an indication from Cairus to that on a Seat post. Think he's reading another board which isn't the one linked to above. Something to look out for. I don't use these files myself.
  38. Great, but be aware, you could only see rust because it had gone through the steel panel from the inside to the outside. If any rust is left in the steel material of that panel, even microscopically, it has a good chance to come through again, sealant or not. I'm sure everyone knows this, but in the end, if the rust can be kept at bay until EOL of the car, or one's ownership of it, then it's "mission accomplished"
  39. You can set them not to fold etc in Settings. I'd be doing that if mine were freezing up.
  40. I have a 1.5TSI ACT 6-speed manual estate, SEL FE; covered best part of 50k miles in under 3.5 years. I have been most impressed by the economy from this engine. Overall, it has averaged about 57mpg since I bought it; and on a recent 3500 mile road trip to northern Italy it was 60mpg. That trip with two of us and a full boot (esp. on the return leg with 4 dozen bottles of wine 🍷 on board). To be fair, on the autoroute/autostrada I kept the speed to about 110-115kph (70mph-ish) rather than the limit of 130kph. Performance is more than enough for me and feels quite sprightly above 2500rpm, so compared to the TDI you're familiar with at first it may feel a bit sluggish at low revs. Depends on driving style, but I find it absolutely fine. Most of my mileage is on medium to long journeys of fifty to two or three hundred miles on dual carriageways or motorways hence the good economy. A run to the next town and back (15 mile round trip) will give about 50mpg plus or minus a few. For my mileage pattern a PHEV would not be a good investment - but I can see that those with a higher proportion of short journeys it would be worthwhile. A while back I drove a 1.0TSI e-TEC (MHEV) estate for about 8500 miles. Mostly it performed well, though for long motorway trips and heavy loads it lacked a bit of oomph. Economy was not dissimilar to my 1.5 TSI ACT manual though I no longer have the records. If I were to replace my Mk4 with another Mk4 I'd go for the 1.5 TSI MHEV - for two reasons... I'm getting older and fed up with a manual 'box when in stop-start traffic The integration of the DSG transmission with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Allowing the technology bring the car to a halt in a traffic queue, then move off again by itself would be a dream.
  41. We went for a 1.4 PHEV. We do a similar mileage a year, but most of the miles are short distance ones that we can do on battery, the remaining ones being long drives to Cornwall or Scotland. We had a diesel up until then. The 1.4 gives us plenty of performance, even in a fully loaded estate with 4 adults and a very full boot and it never seems to struggle. Your choice may depend on where you are coming from - we had a 1.5 diesel Ford Focus before the Octavia, so probably similar performance, on paper at least, although the performance of the Octavia does seem to be much better. What I would really like is a PHEV with a slightly longer range - 100 miles would be fantastic, but 50 or 60 miles would be great. That would mean we could do longer local trips on battery. 30 miles range always seems to disappear very quickly!
  42. Just checked and it was made in September 2015 and stated as Euro 6, ULEZ compliant, and Road Tax £20.00, which I think is a bonus. Road wheels are 18", was this standard? Thank you so much for all your info. Nice to be part of this forum.
  43. Welcome. Sorry really i have no idea what you should do as the DPF might not be an issue, it depends how the car was used. Was the water pump replaced at the time the cambelt & tensioners were. When was servicing, oil changes done, annual or variable, 18,000 - 20,000 miles. What service history is there, Pollen filter, Air Filter, Brake Fluid etc? Are the tyres good, do the brakes look OK, and what is the MOT history looking like, passes, any failures, and advisories and no record of work done? The higher mile car might be better serviced than the newer lower mileage one. Might need less doing in the next year or 2.
  44. @domhnall now getting 4.2 miles or 3.9 kWh average is great, it takes those 5.5 miles a kWh to get an average like that really. Now getting a 5 miles a kWh average at the worst in the UK does have cars matching the WLTP figures and then Comparisons mean something. People just need to know what is what as far as the likely hood of getting the range at UK speeds over several hundreds of miles with different vehicles. As to the Much Cheapness to charge / travel and an employer or someone else paying, that is the beauty of being a business / commercial driver. Nice if there is enough being paid over and above the costs to have some money in the hipper. You and @lol-lol could get together at a nice charging hub and compare expenses.
  45. For those interested. Had the four 16" Octavia wheels with Falken 215.60.16 tyres fitted today. Total excercise cost me £740. Very happy with outcome.... Better ride & much less chance of kerbing the alloys. Plenty clearance between front caliper & inside of wheel. Replacement tyres in future at 100 quid rather than 200.
  46. When replacing a battery, it is necessary to recode your vehicle to notify it that a new battery has been fitted to reset several parameters, State of Charge SOC, Health of Charge (HOC - remaining battery life to you and me), and any change of basic battery specs such as Ah rating, and if EFB or AGM is fitted. It is a simple procedure but requires a diagnostic tool capable of this. Not doing this can lead to issues and shortened (replacement) battery life. You must use an EFB or AGM battery, standard batteries are not suitable and will have a short life. If changing from EFB to AGM or vice versa, battery coding is essential as they operate at different voltages and you will experience issues with stop/start and short battery life. For information, from my long term measurements, the parasitic drain from my cars systems when everything is shut down/ asleep is around 10mA, however many subsystems wake up briefly from time to time and there are moments when it goes up to 60mA or more for maybe 30 seconds or so, so I reckon an average drain may be around 15mA. Of course there is battery self discharge on top, this will vary with battery age, temperature and SOC. I wouldn't recommend disconnecting the battery to measure parasitic drain with a series multimeter. Risk of damage to your meter and the cars systems.
