  1. Found the culprit, my mom was right! 😂
  2. Maybe in the leafy part of her Nottingham South constituency but in any inner city area (where millions of people live) the figure is much closer to 0%. I suspect the Minister has glanced at the Google AI summary which gives a figure of 68%? It's this constant denying that access to driveway charging (and parking outside your own house) is a problem that makes it hard to believe politicians have any understanding of the "real world". Oh and the new EV cost cap on the discount being well below the average cost of a new EV means the scheme can only apply to a minority of new EV purchasers.
  3. It isn't random but it will vary depending on your mpg figure.
  4. Tonight's sunset................
  5. Kia Ora fellow lovers of Skoda! I am new to the scene having only owned my 2014 Mk3 Octavia VRS for about 3 months, but I'm a convert. I'm looking forward to getting to know more about the car along with possibly getting to know a few of you along the way. Until then, Drive safe!
  6. I'd still try to inspect all soldering joints around the gauge, there's chance one of them is cracked. If it is, you'll get free spare cluster 😁
  7. Apparently Public charging has been added to salary sacrifice schemes in addition to pension schemes, EV purchasing, nursery places ! 40% cheaper Public EV charging. Even I am thinking things maybe going a bit too far.... https://electroverse.com/business/salary-sacrifice
  8. In my opinion anyone still using the Covid excuse nearly 5.5 years is not being truthful. What they really mean is their planning, staff training, succession planning and HR is useless. If you wonder why I include HR (Human Resources) it's because there primary function is to provide sufficient trained staff, and if they haven't got enough to keep up with demand long term then clearly failing to do their basic task. Nowadays if a company says we're have a big backlog, I sometimes ask how many staff they have in training to clear it. The most common answer (if they answer) is don't think there are any. Zero succession planning so will eventually fade. Recently a friend had problem and their local main dealer (not Škoda) said couldn't handle it because no high voltage trained staff. Why when 44% of car sales are now BEV, PEV or HEV do they ignore. Same don't care attitude, no training (and as people retire or leave, no skill either). .
  9. The government announcement, from the horse's mouth: GOV.UKDiscount of up to £3,750 on electric cars set to slash co...Car manufacturers can apply for the Electric Car Grant from 16 July 2025. In my opinion, it's basically handing tax payer money to manufacturers. The £37k cut-off threshold could be lower to incentivise more choice in cheaper end of the EV market, and hopefully band A requirements are really strict. It didn't work well back before 2020. When grant was cut, car list price was magically cut for similar amount. I think money is better spent on charging infrastructure and combating misinformation. Build it and they will come.
  10. So grants or money off some electric cars £37,000 and less and various amounts. Manufacturers to apply for which ones in their range it will be. Looks like being a complicated scheme. No idea how it affects those that lease / rent their vehicles and no matter if £30,000 or £27,000 they are not buying, just leasing. PS. Will an Alpine A290 meet the strict environmental requirements, or a Abarth 600-e? EDIT. Band 1. £3,750 Band 2. £1,500
  11. Have you looked at EV SUV's lately, they are all massively high things like a bleeding Range Rover Velar. Honestly, take my word for it, there is a wealth of difference between 6Ft and 6Ft 4", and when I was many years younger, I used to drive Mini's (the old original minis) with the floor mounted starter button and the long spindly gear lever and had great fun chucking it around. Wait a few years until your get to be a pensioner, unable to get to down low, legs painful as f**k, even getting up from a sofa hurts like hell then maybe you'll see just how silly some of the comments you make are. I know that when I was younger and my late Mum was in her seventies I used to say some things to her about do this or that, now that age, I fully understand just how she must have felt, embarrassed because she couldn't no longer do the things she used to do, and also must have been mega pi**ed at my total lack of respect for her plight. She was a very keen gardener and had a large garden and 2 allotments that she used to spent hours every day, in winter and summer tending to, growing all her own organic fruit and veg, no lawns or flowers, just food, root crops, fruit bushes, runner beans, salads, small orchard, blackberries, strawberries etc as well as having around 2 dozen hens. I can no longer do my own decorating, I started to decorate my hallway, staircase and landing 3 years ago and it is still mocking me and I'm going to have pay a decorator to and and do it for me. This is why I'm saying goodbye to my much loved ICE Superb this week because it doubles me up in pain every time I get in it or out out of it and saying hello to an ICE Kodiaq as I just have to open the door, swing my legs out and let them hit the floor and then it is as if I am actually standing up with my arse still on the seat, and is heaven, far less painful (it is my left leg that is the problem) so with the car being right hand drive, it is my right leg that takes my weight in the Kodiaq, whereas in the Superb or my sons Audi A5, both legs and back really suffer. So much for Japanese K cars, there bucket loads of really large humongous Japanese cars around and even more in Japan itself, good luck getting a Sumo wrestler into a K car. Here are just a few of those large cars and google for them and you find masses of them.
  12. Sort of glad that Chinese don't qualify as would have been gutted if the Mini we "bought", PCP, yesterday suddenly become much cheaper. But if the R4 drops a chunk that would be great though the Megane is cracking deal with 4 year 0% and it was even cheaper it will be incredible.
  13. Correct, it's the only one I can comment on as I have never had a car with high beam assist, so I know zero in that area.
  14. Yesterday I have replaced my 5Q0 121 407 F with 5Q0 121 407 AA. I haven't found any information about the F version in this thread so I will share my findings. The "mit silikat" marking wasn't there, but the G13 marking was, so I just replaced it to be sure. Today I cut the tank open and it was completely empty. The only difference I found between the tanks is that the F version has the G13 marking and the AA version has no marking at all. Maybe this information will help someone and they won't have to change the tank unnecessarily like I did. Now I plan to replace G13 with G12evo. BTW, I have Skoda Octavia Mk3 1.0 TSI MY2017.
  15. Got the car back from Skoda. They had it over the weekend. Tested the battery and checked it's health and they say everything is ok. They charged it fully over the weekend and we're happy with it. They saw all the codes and reset them, none returned. Said to keep an eye on it. So we will see how we go I guess. It has been fine since the issue occured.
  16. Going to be very similar to this I suspect hardest part will be removing the old one
  17. 1 point
Just all the pre-collection docs, setup a bank transfer for the money, car will be registered and I'm collecting a week today! Off to the Royal International Air Tattoo on Thursday - didn't want to take a brand new car and park it on a well rutted grass field!
  18. So I've managed to source a spare instrument cluster and plugged in the connectors. All appears to be functioning properly, especially the fuel gauge. Just to satisfy my curiousity I've taken voltage readings at the fuel and temperature gauges. Both indicate 7.95 at one pin, the temperature gauge reads 5.56 at the second pin and reduces as the engine warms. The fuel gauge reads 3.56 at the second pin as opposed to the 0.8 reading on the original cluster. The yellow wire going to the sender also reads 3.56 with the sender connected. I surmise that the voltage at the second pin of the fuel gauge should always correspond to the yellow wire and the fact that the second pin voltage was previously so low was the reason for the needle reading full. The problem would appear to lie somewhere between the yellow wire and the second pin of the gauge as the yellow wire previously had been reading 3.46 and the second pin 0.8. The cause of the discrepancy is a mystery to me and will remain so as I have no desire or need, (fingers crossed), to investigate further. Hopefully this topic may help someone in diagnosing a similar problem and many thanks to those who contributed - especially Papez, as I see your last post just appeared. Cheers, Kieran
  19. After hours of searching I managed to find the number for the corroded pin - N10319203. Since I couldn't source that locally and I didn't want to wait a week for an external order, I went and got a similar plug from the scrapyard, removed the pin and repaired my corroded wire. Put everything back and I got a working seat now.
  20. Let me just say this, no way on earth was I ever humouring you, as always what I say is factual, the alternator did indeed fail on me and as you will see from the receipt below, I did use ClickMechanic and this was on the 23rd of last month. 😁😁. I thank you for providing me with a big laugh. booking-receipt-15955496.pdf
  21. If you're using an empty slot, it doesn't matter if there is only one connection. That's what I did and it works fine as long as the tap is correctly orientated.
  22. It is not a bug, but feature. Not many cars are capable of OTA updates besides minor app and manual updates.
  23. Managed to take a screenshot of the pdf. Hopefully this will be accessible.
  24. That is the problem - having to ask for things to be done, not everyone will realise this or want to ask - and even if you do ask I've seen posts here where the garage doesn't do it even if asked unless it's on schedule. It's an all-in price of what's (considered sometimes) required just because it's included in a sample list doesn't mean it get's done unless its on schedule time/mileage. As Ootohere has put before if the parts, materials, time and labour can be kept in stock that's the garage's gain. My wife has had to ask the Dealership to carry out chargeable scheduled when booking "service" work at least twice! And once at collection after the "service" and originally missed schedule work had been done they mentioned the (con) cambelt work was due, at collection not at point of booking, unfortunately we fell for the con, £429! At the time my wife dealt with everything as it's her car. I wasn't drafted in until the Dealership started acting like a typical bad Dealership, finding unnecessary work and messing her about. Which reminds me I must show her the two lie sheets ('Visual Health Check' ticksheet) one with £1200 of work for "Clutch pedal heavy to press" and "Rear bump stops perishing", by the one bloke they seem to have working there and the next only 20 days later by the same bloke where these worrying items to my wife have disappeared and items marked greenbox G (good) despite absolutely no work, attention or mention given to these items then or since, nearly 2 years ago.
  25. Ah, you're right Nigel. The file won't open for me either so I've saved it again as an oxps. Here goes again. Caddy Dash Panel.oxps
  26. Agree 100%, they just trot out the same old lies and sound bytes and many people will fall for it because they are being told that it is true anyone would think that politicians only ever speak the truth and they do actually understand the real world and that they do live in it 🤔
  27. Apology: i have done a mistake in posting, i forgot to mention that from the point of 94969 Km i have changed the G12 Plus with the good-old G12 so any MPG results from this point https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/512393-cooling-system-problem-again-in-my-felicia/page/3 till today are with G12, so any comparisons from now on are: G12 HEPU and old radiator vs G12 HEPU and new radiator. So i had: 95297 Km and i had 21 litres which means from the 94976 Km i have travelled 321 Km distance (according to the Trip meter is 321,1) the Total fuel consumption was 6,54 ltr/km or 43.19 British MPG and the trip begins, after refuelling the Odometer indication is 95301 Km (324,8 in the Trip meter) Total consumption 21.5 litres and Average is 6.6 (or 42.80 British MPG). The next measurement was in 95375 Km, i have also manage to take photos from the highest point of coolant temperature at 95640 Km and i will compare it with the indication of the console thermometer. (to be continued)
  28. I've had these VW plans on 2 cars and have it on a Golf currently. Everything required on the service schedule has been done, OK had to ask for DSG service but it was done under the plan. Not yet had to claim for a repair on the Golf but repairs on a previous Audi were covered under the plan. The usual caveat of a charge for a diagnostic if no fault found applied but they found a fault and so no cost to me.
  29. Do you have the diagram? This definitely isn't correct. The lamp cannot be operated directly by the float, because the current would be too high and the lamp would illuminate gradually instead of going off instantly. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find schematics of the instrument panel, I only found information, that the gauge is operated through cluster of operational amplifiers in the LM2902N chip. Something like bad resistor can cause output to be stuck at full voltage, or the chip could be burned. Unfortunately I cannot say more without full schematic diagram.
  30. They need to get a grip as far as the Ministers sent out. Prepped with all the key words, and messages to get out. Lilian Greewood MP, Futures Road Minister is the one today. As see appears on more programmes she is getting more up beat, Sky, then BBC then onto ITV. 'Give them / her an EV for a month with either them or their driver driving and a rule that they must do just public charging & not using Government / Work place charging. Not expecting them to be getting the 2 pence a mile that they go on about but do their miles at 15 pence a mile. Again it is the 'Across the Country' when talking England and Councils in England, then 82,000 public chargers around the UK. Just say 'Across England' if England and 'Across the UK' if the UK, or Across Britain if Britain'. It is not British Drivers, other than if they mean Drivers in Britain be them British or any other nationality. As to British Workers. Is this them going all REFORM UK. Stop the boats. British Cars for British People / Drivers. The quoted 'AVERAGE Price of EV,s, is really not that important when so many EV,s first Registered were / are Company Cars, premium cars per the number of EV,s there were 'Offered for sale' up to last year and more and more on sale with RRP,s under £30,000. The Politicians do seem to just dismiss the Public Charging Issue, and think 'Parking outside your home', and gullies are the solution, or part of the solution. Mention as some TV presenters do, Flats, Tower Blocks etc. We get back to ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Mention not just needed on major routes but in Towns & Cities and again the Local Councils, ACROSS THE COUNTRY. BBC,s presenter this morning says 'Will dealers not just increase prices to then people get discounts?' Well it is Manufactures RRP,s. Sky,s presenter pointed out to today's Government minister, he has an EV. She says, Her husband has a Hybrid, but the next car, blah blah blah. Home charging and we can charge when we go places. Yes you can, at prices greater than the Petrol & Diesel which in the UK is more expensive than needs to be. The sustainability / green credentials will be interesting. Chinese built cars / imported from around the world. MINI Electrics, vs a British Built Nissan. Or a car built on Mainland Europe / EU. Battery and material sources, factories using renewable energy to manufacture etc. Cars with more performance than efficiency. The WLTP figures are very much kidology.
  31. Search here, you need to put your car data to narrow options to fit your match https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda
  32. I also have 17s on 225/55 like Martini Racing above, and they are fairly OK in winter here. We had a fair shade of snow, and mostly wet near zero temps, and the response was very good. As in most parts in Italy, the temp ranges are very high, we are since little over a month with near 30 deg C and during winter we have more that a month in sub-zero deg C. All seasons are fine to use BUT they deteriorate rapidly. Did not want to risk, on an car I still do not know. In Italy is the same with the requirements to have chains or suitable tires. I have parents and relatives in the North and they used allseasons and they are fine, but there is no skiing trips, long winter trips , or anything, My relatives in the RM region and friends in the Islands use only summers, but they do not travel into mountain/snowy regions, and in certain areas they have not seen snow in years .... but everything can chance! One last thing to consider: in Italy laws are anal and sometimes enforced with attentive detail - this is subjective to the officer that stops you, of course. So if you put tires that are NOT in your car set be aware you are risking - like me with the 225/55 mentioned above, but is a gamble you have to take. Also, if you go work there and reside for more than an year, you might be required/forced to register your car in Italy, and the initial inspection might point that out.
  33. Under the battery icon you can choose to save the charging . Look at the picture . You set the B switch to hybrid, the G to manual and press the = at the level of charging you want to keep.. So if the battery level is 80 % when pressing the = it will keep the level around 80%. When you reach the city you press battery and set the B switch to battery.
  34. 120 million Japanese work with it. I found, and my 6 foot fie friends, old mini fie for size. Remove seat rail stop. Drop the steering rack with a little bracket. Car has plenty of head room. I could not fit in a Hyundai Coupe just built for sub 6 footers. With EVs the one can tuck the electrical components easier. ICE cars fundamentally flawed as inline engines with the cylinder axis perpendicular to the road. Proper ICE cars use boxer engine or vvankel or the like to get a low bonnet or put the engine at the rear down low. Another reason EVs are superior.
  35. This type of charging is happening and has been for years now. It is just so it is. Blind people or those with poor sight know all about all these types of trip hazards. As do Guide Dogs for the blind. I live in a town with the Guide Dog Training Centre. People like me with artificial legs are maybe fine walking on snow as long as it is not thawing and turning to ice. Those that clear snow and then let water turn to ice maybe need to think on and get salt / grit down. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Head for thinking, feet for dancing, or even possibly tripping. Councils and Government need to realise there are non as daft as folk including politicians.
  36. Funding for cross pavement charging solves the problem of getting power to the kerbside but fails to tackle the even more difficult issue of there not being any "right" to park in front of your own house - so if the nearest place you can park to your own house is out of range of the charging cable (which is not unlikely) then charging an EV at home when you don't have a drive will still be impossible. This weekend I've been staying with a friend and never once been able to park outside their house, one day the nearest I could get was 100 metres down the road.
  37. Contact one of the OEM retro fit specialists- as the dealer will probably outsource it to them anyway. I have used HazzyDayz in Markyate (J9 of the M1). They will analyse your vehicle before doing anything to make sure they have all the coding necessary and that your vehicle is compatible. 38. Well, it is not a scam (thank goodness), but egg on Škoda face for such an obvious error. Seems @comms.VWFS.co.uk is the commercial arm, that sends out advertising emails (comms = commercials, which is what used to call adverts!). Also found that dealer would do a better deal, for two services, two MOTs and two years warranty. Also, very tempted by the smaller EV (0% on PCP and free home charging point). Decisions decisions!
  39. Relax, the car is fine. Kodiaqs have variable servicing and becomes due when the service due message appears on the screen and it is also covered by the Skoda warranty as long as the car has had the services done by approved dealers and within the conditions required, which it has been. The MOT is fine, I have all the history and there was only 1 advisory, a small stone chip in the windscreen and is well out of the drivers line of vision and can be repaired by a small injection of resin I'm sure. I'm perfectly happy with the car only having 8 months MOT, most garages only guarantee that their cars come with at least 6 months, so its comfortably with that range, and my current car only has 10 months left with zero advisories. If I ask them to MOT it for me, they could in turn ask me to reciprocate and getting an MOT done round these parts requires a long waiting list as the test centres are still complaining about the back log of Covid. As I aim to collect the car this week on my way back from RIAT at RAF Fairford, which would make that impossible.
  40. Skoda Servicing might say the DSG Oil change does not require a new filter until the 2nd service. Stuff that for a game of soldiers.
  41. I have to admit, I can never understand why people think it is fine to walk behind a reversing vehicle (specifically as vision is vastly reduced) and believe they are perfectly safe., yet they won't walk in front of you - even if you are creeping along, and vision is good.🤷‍♂️
  42. sigh The issue isn't price of EV. Stop/start government incentives to "help" with new EV purchasing (like ~2015) will only bring uncertainty and higher depreciation, actually making EV cost more to own. It's simply stupid and counter intuitive. The issue is the social divide between those who can charge at home and those who cannot. That gives the perception that EV are expensive to own (buy and use) due to higher public charging cost and higher list price often quoted by anti-EV narratives. So the other issue is the huge amount of misinformation out there.
  43. It must be something blatantly obvious that I am missing, Yes, just forget about the built-in Nav and use Google Maps or Waze via Android auto or Carplay
  44. It's not illegal, but it's not possible. You can't do a sequence light with only one halogen bulb! Oh, and it looks daft too.
  45. They sound like the faults normally associated with a battery swap. I believe first thing to do is turn steering to full lock in both directions and then take a drive. That will often reset the warning lights. I'd like to think that Skoda would know that though.
  46. I had one of these plans, took it out about part way through year 4, so car had been out of warranty for few months. At the time they had special offer and I was paying nearer £26 per month. I think I had the major service around its 4th birthday, then the minor service, but I specifically requested spark plugs second time (even though it had only done about 15k miles since they were changed (before I took out all in one). I explained it includes a spark plug change, so although not due, do it because it is effectively free as paid for. So look what it covers, and get it done, even if not scheduled at the mileages your services come up. If plan covers it, you have paid anyway, so silly not to have new parts if you have the option at no cost. From memory, mine had European breakdown cover included, so worth more than a UK only policy, but wasn't that obvious unless read the small print. .
  47. No idea on the diesel but I've had 2m/6' 6" doors in the back of mine with the seats down so the space is reasonable. Also, not sure this is still a current product but: Cheers, Steve
