  1. Easier...without doubt. More enjoyable ?..... I enjoy deciding when I change gear. Like you say, cost will be less for servicing. Personally, I enjoy driving therefore I enjoy having total control .
  2. In for full service today at the local independent VAG specialist. Nice to see prices clearly on display. Prices seem fairly reasonable to me.
  3. As I go through the configurators it becomes ever clearer that we are being punished for having the cheek to look for a manual gearbox, petrol engine car. I suppose now Skoda like so many are now more in the business of infotainment systems. Current car Octavia III SE Sport 1.4 tsi manual. Something of a sweet spot as far as I am concerned 150ps in a reasonably light car, reasonable performance, space, economy, range, still trusted to change gear myself. Had it from new, coming up for 10 years old - what in the current range even comes close? Funny how fast 2016 became the good old days.
  4. Not sure how well It comes out in the photos but the bulbs are brilliant. Nice white colour, great projection and no dazzling. Not been flashed by anyone yet anyway. I don’t have many before pictures but the old bulbs were two different sorts so at least they’re a matched pair! First pic is with the old bulbs. (Different road though)
  5. There’s definitely still demand for manuals, but manufacturers also have a clear incentive to push automatics — they’re simply more profitable. In my case, the difference would have been about €2,500 more for the DSG/mHEV variant. I do think the comfort argument holds for most people — modern automatics are generally easier and more enjoyable to drive (from my experience, having tried one). So it comes down to how much people value that convenience. Personally, I don’t value it at €2,500, which is why I went with a manual. Also, since I’m not leasing and plan to keep the car long term, I’m not keen on the potential for higher out-of-warranty servicing costs.
  6. What is excellent is that Phonostar added logos for Bosnia radio stations in this last update after I wrote them an e-mail in july last year. Not all of them, but many. They did really a great job.
  7. The mats brighten a slightly dull interior I think. Have similar carpet cut offs in one of my cars....I love them.......lets embrace floral off cuts !😆
  8. Few snaps from work. Such a good-looking car.
  9. Hmmm... Not sure how I would do my 1500 - 3000 mile road trips without using a public charger; I have at least two of these a year plus elderly parents living 400 miles away. "Never need to use a public charger..." is just not true. I would need to give very serious consideration before switching to an EV for financial and practical reasons. BIK is not relevant when retired so it would be all my own money. EVs are horses for courses though. Swapping SWMBO's CitiGo for a relatively small EV does make a lot of sense and may well happen if the right deal pops up at a suitable time. I am preparing a spreadsheet to estimate the capital cost outlays, running cost savings, depreciation, which will influence timing of any change. Other factors are domestic heating update/upgrade and mains battery storage for our 10yo solar panels. Could end up spending lots of £££££ and not recovering the investment.
  10. Don't have the options on my connect app, have a map option which will show you the current location of your vehicle? Then some kind of explore thing which is nothing to do with my car, just news / ads about new Skoda cars
  11. My 73 plate 2.0 TSI 4x4 Sportline with factory fitted optional Space Saver spare was approx £39800, so just under the £40k threshold. 2024 plate 2L Sportlines, were over the threshold hence I went for 2023 reg car, and saved £2000 in extra VED. I suspect the 1.5 TSI Sportline Edition with extras could now be over as well.
  12. I concede I may have got my facts wrong but I think the Sportline might be subject to the higher rates of VED due to the original purchase value. i.e. the book price, not necessarily what a buyer would have actually paid for it. I like the spec compared to my SEL but not enough to have a significant additional cost just to be able to drive it on a public road. Happy to be corrected if I've misunderstood the VED rules. Only flagging this up in case it might be a deal breaker for anyone considering one.
  13. Full service completed and no issues raised. They didn’t have time to do DSG service and brake fluid change so that is booked in for a couple of months time. Fitted LED headlight bulbs as recommended by @AL2772. https://ebay.us/m/GEjuI6 Definitely not an easy fit and don’t even bother trying to do them without taking the arch liner out. But once it is out it’s not too bad a job. Had one fault come up when first installed but cleared the code and now all good. Much brighter and clearer than the previous bulbs. Also updated the MIB software following @JR RS brilliant guide
  14. Pleased to have found this forum! Loving the 2022 Octavia that I have recently acquired, after owning a Vauxhall Insignia for eight years. Now retired, I'm hoping to get around the country a bit in my new wheels.
  15. Hi and welcome to Briskoda @Rhencullen 👋
  16. Hi, thanks for the manual. This was my first experience with EEPROM. I fought a bit with Windows 11 and the CH341A drivers (the wrong ones installed and I had to delete them), then I set the clip to about 30x mayby more… But after 1,5hr everything worked perfectly and it’s all running great now. Thanks! (Octavia 3 FL 2018)
  17. Updated MIB unit to the latest software following this guide: Only visible change is the Canton logo on the startup screen. Pretty straightforward once I had found the right software to download and all done in about 40 mins.
  18. Ah, I see. Mine are wool carpet off-cuts. Your Fabia is worth better than TEMU !! Liking your progress, it's sitting nice. That spring kit was a good buy. 👍
  19. Sportline ride is not entirely due to wheel size. Yes the 40 profile tyres are a factor, that can be remedied by fitting 45 profile tyres, All Season tyres also soften the ride. But the 4x4s multilink rear suspension makes a big difference. Regarding the pan roof - I would never choose to have one, but its the only model with the 2.0 TSI engine, yes it does make the overall black interior of the Sportline lighter, but the need to keep the drains clear and the nenoprene seals moisturised to prevent water leaks is a pain.
  20. Thing is I do know a few people who could be described as automatic enthusiasts - but they all want proper old school automatics with torque converters.
  21. Finally got the headlight bulbs fitted. Shout out to Needham Market branch of Hadleigh Tyre services for the use of their ramp and torx screwdriver to remove the seemingly hundreds of screws holding the arch liners in. Not a bad job once the liners are out though. I went for these bulbs on the recommendation from @AL2772 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/286024506495 Just under £30 delivered with an 8% discount code offer currently on. Will get some photos tonight when its dark.
  22. I have a 2025 Karoq SE-L and considered a sportline but wasnt keen on the ride quality due to the larger wheel size. My wife has a 2024 Fabia which we specced with a heated screen but personally, I dont feel it works as well as I had in my old Escort estate I used to own.
  23. This afternoon the Superb had it's third replacement windscreen, so on the fourth windscreen in total if you include the original. It's now 3 1/2 years old with 120k on it and it spends lots of time on the motorway, so anything that gets thrown up off the road in front generally hits fairly hard at motorway speeds. Apart from that it's running great, the fuel consumption is starting to get better with the warmer temperatures, oil consumption is negligible, also just filled up the Adblue with roughly 15 litres, enough for about the next 20k miles.
  24. Reuters, very respected news agency, reporting a doubling of used EV sales in Europe earlier this month and they should be believed, not seen anything on the UK and we will see the normal publish of new EV March sales by SMMT some way in to April and will be interesting to see the UK seconds hand EV sales data but would expect it to be similar to mainland Europe. In other news relating to the truth of running an EV or 3 I have just had my email from Octopus relating to my GO tariff which they tell me is dropping by a quarter next Wednesday for the all important Night charging rate ie from 8.5p per kwh to 6.5 p per kwh, great news considering my 9% cost rise in the Reform led council tax and water bill cost rise from Severn Trent ! Even the Day time rate is going down considerably ie 2.45 p per KWh so not too bad to even charge during the Day time period when only 27.2 p per KWh ! Think the saving will be about £200 a year overall. Nice!
  25. My vRS is my 2nd automatic after the Cupra Ateca I had before it. These are my first automatic cars and I wouldn't go back to a manual now and lots of people say the same. There might be still a demand for manual gearboxes but it's certainly decreased.
  26. evs at auction including a 15 month old id7 for £28,400
  27. IAN: 383685_2100S./N:278007 It also has Manufactured: 2022/35 above the IAN details. It's a ULGD 5.0 C1
  28. The only indicator on my 2016 model is the high beam/auto high beam symbol which I seem to recall is blue. The dial you refer to isn't much use as it doesn't light up the appropriate symbol when the lights are on - it just lights up the whole thing as I noticed when I manually changed it from auto to main beam the other day. It was foggy and I wanted to make sure that I had headlights and not just sidelights.
  29. There's a few of us using Garmin devices here (amongst other brands) : https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/487252-sports-gps-watches/ I've had a Vivoactive 4 and my wife still has her Vivoactive 3, my son still uses my Vivoactive 4 and all is working well with both the watches although as time progresses the battery life has depleted a little in them both. Battery life is very subjective on sport watches (a bit like car manufacturers MPG figures), there are a lot of options/tweaks (ie..pulseox & bluetooth) that can be made to your metrics that will either use more or less battery so once you've made your decision its worth doing a few walks (2-3hrs) and checking battery usage against your metrics to see what can be tweaked to give you the data and battery life you need. I'm now a couple of years into ownership of the Garmin Fenix 7 Solar and its simply great. ie..I charged my watch on wednesday morning, went for a ride on thursday with it running GPS/heartrate for about 5 hr's and almost 48hrs later the battery has only used 16%. The only thing I can't comment on is how well or not Garmin integrates with Apple phones as I'm an android user, my sister however uses a Garmin Forerunner with her Apple phone and hasn't said she has any issues (she does lots of running/hiking)
  30. So it’s goodbye to my Skoda Octavia iV estate. It going to be replaced in the next few days by a Renault Scenic which on the lease scheme I have available is way cheaper - I can get the top of the range one for the price of the cheapest Elroq. I’ve had the car 4 years since new. First there was the software issues but I have a good local dealer that completely reprogrammed the car for me and everything pretty much worked fine after that. It’s been comfy for long journeys, it’s pretty fast and apart from the droopy nose looks decent too (I upgraded the alloys and got the nice green blue colour). Interior has held up well but I do look after it. It has been plagued by rattles and squeaks, some of which I never got to the bottom of (neither did the dealer) which was very annoying and also the fuel economy was dire unless I charged it up and even then it wasn’t great. Thing 30-35mpg round town if you haven’t charged it. I’m glad I ordered it and it’s been good overall but I’m not bothered about getting another one - annoyed I can’t really get an estate car cheaply on my scheme so have had to go SUV but it’s cheap enough so it’s ok. Anyway if anyone wants a full set of custom mats for free and can pick up from Huddersfield then they are all yours. Never been used, got them with the car and always used the Skoda ones. They are nice! I am also selling some Yakima roof bars for the car too, they are the best ones you can get (better than Thule). I would join the site to sell stuff but it’s not worth it for one item being as I am moving away from Skoda! Anyway thanks for the chat and banter and shoulders to cry on regarding the software, hope you are going to enjoy Skoda ownership for a lot longer!!
  31. Took my 2015 2.0TSI VRs to France last year, was Crit'Air 1 (the purple sticker) or Euro 6
  32. Thats the one, Nigel. Should also maybe have mentioned that some time ago, I put this charger on a 11 year old 44AH Varta lead acid battery installed in another (22 year old) family Polo and the charger worked exactly the same, this battery of course would have been Alternator constantly charged at 14.4V throughout its long lasting life.
  33. So after we seemed to have overcome the previous drama, I booked the car in for its MOT for the following week. This gave me a bit of time to do a bit more interior cleaning and fitting some new parts like a new (unbroken) gear knob and gator and some delightful (temporary) mats that my mate gave me 🤣. It still needs more work to be up to my standards but it’s much better and will do for now. Then it was MOT day………. AGAIN!! 😬 But this time it made it there without any issue at all! 👍 And later that day…….. WE HAVE A PASS! 💪😁
  34. Spotted this evening.......... Not a happy swan!

Comparing mpg is not something that is very easy to do. The best is the relativity between official figures because at least it's a like for like evaluation under the same circumstances. Otherwise its how you drive, the speed you drive, the weight in the car, your tyre pressures, the mix of types of roads and road surface, the weather including temperature and rain, whether you are optimising for efificency (e.g not using sport mode for mapping and gearbox) and on and on. In New Zealand which doesn't really have very many mostly straight freeways and a mostly 100km/h speed limit with some at 110 I get 42mpg on a long trip including the mostly secondary roads driving briskly but not trying to get max performance. For just the straightest highway it's 50mpg. Obviously much lower if I go for a drive in sport mode, ESC half off and fanging through the bends down a twisty back road. Compared to my old 2012 Subaru Legacy GT wagon that had similar outright performance but 4WD but quite inferior engine tech its using about 3l/100km fuel in almost every setting so I think the economy is amazingly good given the performance available.
  36. Getting there. Next would be sitting inside while someone poors water over door and bonnet/screen to see if can be seen coming into the cabin.
  37. I worked out what you did. Updated to 1447 AIO but then had to use the Mib tools for the FeC edit but because it wasnt designed for the AIO had to do the rename. I think the tool would have worked with the firmware you were on but you'd taken the 1447 AIO update route by then. Straight 1447 has those issues where it was originally designed for the Cupra copper screen and cant be seen without altering the coding of the display if you arent in "copper" before. The user community sorted that out in 1447 AIO. I got put off by changing the firmware at the time and just did Mib Tools after someone in the community wrote the patch. This is all 5 years ago when one of the mib2 high releases didnt support Seat. It's a repeat of that now but there is that techie solution for those that want to raise to the challenge. As an aside my unit had previously been updated by a rather unreliable retrofitter. The back up file which mib tools generates showed exactly what the retrofitter had previously done with the dates and times. Their handy work didnt impress the people who support mib tools.
  38. They tell you a lot more than that. If folks would only look at them we wouldn't get many of the queries we get here.
  39. Hi guys, I had the similar issue, as described here (Octavia 2021). I was able to solve it by myself. How it all started? I got notification on Monday that there is OTA 03A8 update that stated I should install it or some things might stop working in the future. I downloaded it in the evening while driving, and after I parked my car and clicked Install I waited 30 minutes but there was not any information that install is progressing. I turned off ignition, left the car, locked Then Unlocked, Ignition on, and Infotainment prompted me to login with my primary user account After providing username and password, hell broke loose with my infotainment Symptoms after update: After loading primary user profile, Infotainment gets stuck, and cockpit starts shining as Christmas tree Screen goes blank, but still on in the background eSIM icon was offline Force shut down, by extended holding of Power button doesn't help Unplugging and plugging infotainment fuse doesn't help Spent 1h trying to troubleshoot, but no luck After 24 hours, eSIM icon changed from Offline to Online (Tuesday evening) Workaround: I've discovered that if you force restart the infotainment (extended holding of Power button) and quickly enter the Guest profile, Infotainment starts working properly If you try to switch profile to primary owner, same issue above starts happening (so don't do it) Deleted Primary profile (only guest remained) Solution (in my case): I suspect that my profile got corrupted on Skoda servers, so when it starts download to Infotainment, corruption starts I used another email to create Skoda account, and signed into My Skoda app I used new email to login to Skoda infotainment, and VOILA - no issues. Infotainment worked perfectly since But I have Remote Access paid until end of August 2026, so I didn't had access to my car via new My Skoda app with new email Thankfully, when you choose and follow thru option to become primary user (via Infotainment + two keys need to be present in the car), exiting Remote Access subscription was transferred to new email. Since, Tuesday evening, everything is working perfectly. Hope it helps. Attached image shows info after fix.

    All the Skoda approved wheel sizes are listed in the car's CoC (Certificate of Conformity). Superb MK2 wheel sizes 205/55R16 7Jx16 ET45 205/55R16 6Jx16 ET50 205/50R17 6Jx17 ET45 225/45R17 7Jx17 ET49 225/45R17 7.5Jx17 ET49 225/40R18 7.5Jx18 ET46
  41. Look @Lutz_91 Retrofit 5Q0 To 2Q0 The LED in the cab need 2Q0 Units https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/454623-what-have-you-done-to-your-superb-iii-today/page/183/#findComment-5934757
  42. Thanks Softscoop, I haven't heard od them before but worth a message. Thanks for the steer.
  43. Have you tried this place? They seem to deal with a fair few sunroof issues and might be able to help. MLS Garages & Recoveries https://www.facebook.com/share/1EZ4uJa49i/
  44. It's a normal sunroof. As in one piece of glass tilt and slide. Although mine hasn't tilted or slid for some time. The trouble is you have to be very careful because there are so many with really small mounting differences if you get one from abroad and it's wrong, unless you can sell for the same money you are wasting cash. Appreciate the links though I will take a look.
  45. Hello all. As promised some pics of my "bespoke" mk 4 superb towbar hole cover. Apologies for the quality of some of the under vehicle shots, so you may have to zoom in to see them clearly. As previously stated I used the black plastic lid from a storage container, and the white flexible tabs (used to hold the cover in place) are cut from the walls of a Chinese food container. This seems to be rigid enough to hold the cover but flexible enough to bend into place on the inside of the bumper hole. I have usedsmall bolts holding the tabs to the lids but I reckon a decent adhesive would do the job just as well. Just leave the edges free for flexibility. The curly plastic lanyard is a failsafe, in the unlikely event the cover comes off at speed ( ehich it hasn't). Any questions, just ask. Some more pics
  46. Once you’ve sorted this ditch the locking bolts for normal ones. No one steals alloys anymore.
