  1. Rest assured noble followers, I am alive and well. Other stuff has taken priority of late but I'm progressing slowly doing the grubby stuff underneath. The fuel tank was removed (containing 40 litres of diesel ffs), the rear beam, rear brakes and lines are out, the complicated Xenon self levelling sensor is also out. This leaves the car looking pretty bare tbh. I will get some pics up over the weekend but I'm currently deep in the bowels of each rear arch, once the plastic liner is out and the surface cleaned there is a load of painted spotwelds that are showing signs of surface corrosion, normally you'd never see these but now is the time to nip them in the bud. I'm knocking the surfaces affected back to bare metal, treating them with Hydrate80, two coats of etch primer, two of gravitex paintable stone chip, 3m Seam sealer where required, then and only then will I be undercoating the arch twice before painting sprint yellow. Of course all this will be recovered with the arch liner but at least I know it'll be protected properly for years to come

  2. When they did the earlier little thing in Nov/Dec they wanted someone that had owned a few and contacted Harlow Jap Autos I bought ATTKD and Hosaka R34s from. So HJA put them on to me. After talking to me and doing that they realised it wasn't a normal thing where someone just changes cars often and has a couple, so decided it'd be a nice thing to put in the magazine with more info.

  3. Yes sorry, been a bit busy with the race team and getting cars ready... Good news is they are pretty much done now so have ordered the final bits (hopefully) needed for the Yeti. Syvecs ECU and a twin injector set up. Might allow us to push a bit more power out of it. Just waiting on an expected delivery time.

  5. Race 1 - Snetterton Sunday 2nd April. Our first race running the fleet as we are still getting used to them a bit. A large grid of 45 cars entered! Five Brisky cars out and mine.. A good solid finish from Rob in the highest place car that took 2nd in class out of 12 Fiestas entered. Started 24th and finished 12th. Was hanging off the rear bumper of the 1st in class car 0.17 seconds behind and lapping 0.12 seconds quicker. Buzz as a complete novice started 31st and made it up to 16th by lap 5, at one point briefly getting in front of Rob, before being overtaken by Rob's 50 car and then a slightly enthusiastic bit of cornering let to some tyre contact. We lost one car due to a wheel bearing, which has led us to change them on every car. Getting used to the car and struggling with 3rd gear due to a cable fraying Natalie started 39th and finished 28th. My own race was amazing, I led into the first corner from the start and with three cars fighting over 2nd I had pulled out a 3 second lead by the end of lap one. Car 53 managed to pull away and had a commanding lead, the pit stop went to plan and then at just over half race distance with no other cars in the mirror the CV joint popped... I have to admit, it wasn't as much fun out in front on my own though, was like driving around on a test or track day. Another DNF for the board!

  6. I had the Focus RS and having two extra doors it's just a lot more sensible for the family. It's just like a big Fiesta ST turned up to 11 TBH, it's a lot of fun. I found as great as the ST200 was (and I think it's the best version of the ST ever) I just wasn't using it. The RS has had the Mountune 375 warranty approved upgrade which gives it a nice bit of extra mid range grunt as I think it's a brilliant car. Here we are having a play on the Silverstone GP circuit.

  8. Luckily for me I did seek clarification from Skoda before placing my order that despite not being able to have a factory-fit towbar, I could get one post sale. I was given that assurance and ordered. The worry came when just last month I noted that the Skoda configurator suddenly left the towing weights blank and I questioned why and posted here on my thread on the subject. Despite being incorrectly advised 3 times by Skoda customer services this week that I would be able to tow, it is only today (when presented with the product bulletin from Skoda IE about the lacking of 'Type Approval' did I get confirmation that there was a 'technical issue' that restricted the installation of a tow bar. It has obviously not been widely circulated within Skoda UK. Then I suppose " sorry, it's not an option on that model " sounds a lot better than " sorry, we've made a huge ****-up and haven't secured type approval for towing on this variant. " Can I pay credit to this site, forumites and in particular to the contributors to my thread for helping to get to the bottom of this. My order is cancelled. This is a big issue for anyone who has ordered or bought a large SUV now finding out they can never fit a tow bar .. I just hope the famous Skoda Customer Service have an appropriate complaints strategy.

  10. I think the lease companies order absolutely loads of Silver SEL 150 estates to hold in stock as they are such a popular choice with fleets. That's how I came to get mine so quickly - whilst it is a PCH vehicle it's through Lex Autolease, who focus mainly on corporate leasing.

  11. It was delivered to work on a low-loader with just 7 miles on the clock, and registered new the same day (having taken 3 months to build). My first thoughts were that it was either the wrong car, or it's was an order for another person in the company and mine was hidden somewhere else in the car park. Luckily for me it turned out to be neither. The car was upgraded from SE Business to SE-L at no cost (except a slight increase in my car tax which I'm happy with). Maybe it was a cancelled order at the factory as I had no option in having the Estate in Silver opposed to a Hatchback in Quartz Grey. It was a no-brainer for me - I really like the look of the Hatchback, but always preferred the Estate anyway, and silver looks good too. I'm guessing that Skoda were doing special deals last month with the lease company because I've since seen loads of new Estates on either 66-plate or 17-plate. Whatever the reason, I'm delighted - it's not often you get something better for now't!

  13. Yeah, should be oil filled; was asking just because dead gas filled could (??) act like good oil filled haha (rod doesn't comes out)- but mine's are ok. Accordingly, found answer why ZF online cat (Boge/Sachs) for standard suspension offers only oil filled for front and gas filled- for rear. Purpose of all dismounting/mounting was broken spring (1/2 of lower thread broke in Monday)- thks to age 10 years / 230k km and nice Latvian roads, damn. Now am driving with Lesjofors springs ;-) Strut upper bearing+rubber still was in pfct condition- left them as it is (just washed and re-greased bearing). Thank you for info, guys- and have a nice and sunny Easter!

  14. I've been trying to keep a few things low key and not turn into a big show off. Because I actually have 10 Skyline GT-Rs now. 7 R34s and 3 R32s.... I became aware that on the internet it's too easy to go on about what you are doing and it can turn into a bit of an ego trip, or look that way. But yes Evo magazine contacted me to do a feature on the cars as they heard how crazy it had got. And they were nice guys that came down.

  15. If the bike is being used for tarmac 70% of the time you don't want a tyre with too aggressive a tread pattern, those should be fine. Tyres are easy to change if you do find she needs something with more of a knobble on it, they look to be 700c x 38 tyres so are a fairly standard size, there will be lads of choice.

K's got the same as me with a Rover 4.6 V8 running about 270bhp. his other car is a Westfield V8 running a 4.6 with over 320bhp. Weathers car is squashed between ours.. a dinky Westfield with a 170bhp Zetec engine.

  19. 12/4/17... Well no real developments Fabia wise, Having gone back to Work on the 31st after my 2 Week Holiday I have simply been using the Fabia for what it was originally purchased for...Commuting and so far it has been fantastic. Brilliant little car that ticks all the right boxes, It gets me to work just as quickly as the Golf R did and I am more than happy leaving it parked up at Work without worrying. Played the MPG Game on my way to work Yesterday morning and saw 70MPG over the 10 Mile Commute, Currently Averaging 54MPG overall since buying it so very happy. I have been a busy bee with the New Garage/Man Cave, Currently £4500 lighter for the privilege and that was with 25% discount on the Garage but I am getting exactly what I wanted and it will be a good investment. The old Pre-Fab was knocked down and removed Yesterday, Today the new 23ft x 13ft Concrete Base was laid which I am confident will be more than big enough to accommodate a Car and allow for Detailing and Light Mechanical work such as Servicing etc. The New Garage gets delivered in 2 Weeks and will be installed on the same day which I am very much looking forward to, Then I have an Electrician coming to install Power and a Multitude of Strip Lights and Sockets. Laughably although I am getting the Garage built I am struggling to think of a Car suitable to buy to put in it LOL, To the Drawing Board with that One! Couple Of Snaps of progress so far...

  20. Here are all the changes for MY2018, in France at least. Most should be the same in all markets, although some market specific differences may occur. Glass design for the infotainment systems (Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus) Screen size increase from 8" to 9.2" for Columbus Screen size increase from 5" to 6.5" for Swing Smartgate (code EI9) is being replaced by Smartlink+ (which includes Smartgate and Smartlink) as on Octavia facelift New In-Car Communication functionality for Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus infotainment systems (as on the Kodiaq) Removal of option for TV tuner + DAB (option code QU1) Change of gearbox from DSG6 to DSG7 (DQ381) for the following engines / transmission combos: 2.0 TDI 150 bhp FWD starting from week 27/2017 2.0 TDI 190 bhp FWD starting from week 32/2017 2.0 TDI 190 bhp AWD starting from week 36/2017 Design change for the cooling liquid cap Maneuver Assist which activates the brakes as soon as an obstacle is detected (uses the parking sensors and the Park Assist ones): Week 6/2017 for reversing only. Can someone that had their car built after week 6/2017 and took delivery of their car confirm the presence of this functionality? Please take care when testing this to avoid any damage to your car. Week 22/2017 both for reversing and moving forward. New chrome trim under the doors for L&K (option code 7M7) Starting from week 27 19" Sirius silver rims are replaced by Acamar anthracite rims (no code for now) Phoenix 19" rims (PJ7, PJ8 and PJV codes) renamed to Trinity New black roof headlining option on L&K available with brown (BR) and black (EX) leather interiors New option for driver's seat with massage function on Style and L&K trim levels For Style only in combination with electrically adjustable front driver’s seat with built in memory (option code PB1) centilated leather seats (PHC option code) No additional option needed on L&K Re-adding the ivory leather interior for the Style trim level (BS + PL1 option codes) Availability of auxiliary heating (PHD option code). For whatever reason France was one of the few markets in which this option was not available. Clean Air function for Climatronic. I don't have more details what this entitles (most likely very similar to the implementation available on VW vehicles), seems to come in standard. Disabling of interior alarm is now done from a menu on the infotainment system instead of a physical button Removal of L&K logo from the gearshift levers on L&K Skoda Connect with E-Call and Care Connect as on Octavia facelift and Kodiaq Business trim level gets 2 changes: 16" Orion rims get replaced by 17" Triton rims Silver roof rails (estate only) New Style+ trim level (no code for now) that includes: Adaptive Cruise Control up to 160 km/h Traffic Sign Recognition Lane Assist and Blind Spot Detection Rear-view parking camera Electrically-operated boot Rear window wiper (hatch only) Interestingly enough there is no mention of replacing the Superb's gearshift leaver by that of the Kodiaq as shown on the one Superb that was on display at the Geneva motor show. I sure hope they gave up on that as I very much prefer the current gearshift lever to that of the Kodiaq. New configurator should be available to dealers this Friday (14th of April).

  21. Hi all - newbie here! Ordered a Superb SE-Business hatchback 2.0-TDi in late December as a replacement company car. The delivery lead time was 3-4 months and I was looking forward to it arriving in April. Imagine my surprise when I attended the office to collect my new car - only to find it had been upgraded to an SE-L Estate for the same price! Happy days!!

  27. The seal has been bone dry and stuck together.. this can be caused by heat or a damp seal which has frozen. On such a new car, this is a warranty job... unless it says in the manual you have to treat the seals after each use !!!

  28. I switch mine off for one main reason. Your are sitting at a T junction waiting to turn right onto a very busy road. With stop/start activated you have to wait for 1 to 2 seconds for the car to start and then get the revs up before you can move off. . That can seem a very long time in fast rush hour traffic. So with my self preservation hat on I switch it off.

  31. I managed to get a test drive elsewhere. Liked the car and have ordered.....hope I've done the right thing. Went for: Sportline in Candy White with 150BHP with DSG. Only added parking sensors and towbar. Decided against Canton in the end. Somebody tell me I've done the right thing, I need reassurance. Talking of dealers, my colleague who received his Skoda from a fleet source recently had a phone call within 2 days of delivery of his Octavia VRS. Even though they had not supplied the car, Bristol Skoda knew he had a new Skoda, wanted to introduce themselves and offered their services for anything he required. Nice touch I thought. That will be an interesting conversation if I get the same kind of phone call from my local dealer

  32. Had a day off work today so I got a few hours with the quattro. Making brake lines takes ages! Got them all in place now, hopefully I make them properly. Sam was unimpressed. I also cleaned up the rear subframe and slapped some paint on it. And the rear wishbones. Then suddenly it was 3pm and time to pick up the child from school! I have a new rear mount for the rear diff, but it needs to be pressed in, and three of the bolts holding the bracket on are rounded off and rusted in. Sigh. So the rear diff needs to come off to get it done. Gives me the chance to clean it up I guess.

  35. £250 for parts if changing 2 belts, & then labour of maybe 1.5 hours, maybe 2. So under £400 should do it. Best go to a Skoda Main Dealer Master Tech unless you know a VW Independent Specialist with one. (2 year warranty on parts.) £600 plus i paid because there was 2 hours plus of diagnosis which i approved 3 hours for once 1 hour had passed (£85) and the loss of boost had still not been diagnosed as being the magnetic supercharger clutch / water pump as the cause.

  42. Should have bought a bigger puller. Made a start on the first of the CV joints - got one degreased and partly re-assembled. I would have done both ends if I'd bought a big enough puller! This is one way to separate the bigs I also took the cup thingies off the gearbox, cleaned them up and re-fitted, and moved the jack stands at the back so I can get the rear subframe out for cleanup and new bushes. Then it's brake lines, sort out the exhaust heat insulation which is hanging off - and have a look under it to check for rustyness. And I should be able to get the rear fully re-assembled.

Review: Second time I have been to Unit18 (1st time was retro fit cruise control) & the service I received is spot on, much better than any Skoda main dealer has to offer especially when it comes to knowledge & customer satisfaction, Jason from Unit18 worked on my car with everything done to perfection, overall time was around 5-6 hours & the great thing is! that you can even chat to the mechanic while he is working on you're vehicle & you can clearly see everything that is being done, Unit18 is my main place for my Skoda vRS 2.0T petrol for anything that needs doing, 100% recommend using these guys, friendly & very honest, I travel from London to Milton Keynes which is around an hour there & back, I could easily use a few Skoda Main Dealer's/Independent specialists around my area but to be honest the service from Unit18 is second to none, I can't rate them enough.

Service interval reset, also had air-con re-gassed (not part of the service) Review: First time I've used these guys & the service was great, I waited in the waiting area which has a big long glass window so you can see the mechanics working on vehicles, service was around 2hours & 30mins, based on the level of service I received, I would use these guys in the future. EDIT: But when I got home I found the 2 black screw caps for the air-con pipes left by my windscreen scuttle panel (wipers area) so the mechanic forgot to put these back on, luckily I didn't have to travel far to get back home otherwise they could of easily been lost. (easy mistake, not a major one) Vehicle service wise so far so good & have no doubt in recommending this garage to fellow Briskoda members based on my review.
