  1. OK so I've had "Bear" for just over a month having got her from my dealers stock with delivery in less than a week. This allowed me to take her up to the Lake District for a short break this week instead of the vRS Combi I had previously. I'm going to break this down into sections as follows: Luggage Three suitcases, numerous bags, coats, a portable clothes dryer, pillows, 4 sets of hiking boots, and even a 28" computer monitor filled the boot to the brim. Nothing additional in the cabin apart from the 2 kids and the wife. The car did feel heavy but not so much as to cause issue. Motorway The wife and I took turns driving up and back from the Lakes. M4, A34, M40, M42, M6 all done with ease and comfort. I drove at a steady 70 - 75 mph and the mrs drove like she was still in her 120d! I had opted for the 2.0 TDI 150 DSG Scout and even when full she still pulled when needed, and easily sat above the speed limit without breaking a sweat. But what does that mean in real terms? Journey up - 44.8 MPG / 43 MPH Average Journey back - 46.3 MPG / 48 MPH Average Not bad for a full car with only £2k on the clock Country lanes!! OK so Bear isn't small and some of the lanes in the Lakes aren't much wider that the edges of the wing mirrors so that caused a few moments of breath holding. However even given the fact that the lanes sometimes suddenly went from straight to 90 degree right angle turns up 20% inclines didn't phase Bear. The steering was spot on and allowed me to maneuver bear along some of the tightest lanes I've driven in the UK without so much as a wobble. Steering was set to "normal" for the whole trip too. Had to laugh when I drove up over a single lane bridge, over the crest to see a BMW 5 series driver almost **** his pants and reverse in quick order ... Lowest MPG I got during lane driving sessions was 36.6 MPG so still not too bad. SATNAV I wanted to try out three different SAT NAV apps whilst away. The built in SAT NAV, WAZE, and Google Maps. Each performed well, routing me around traffic as and when needed. All easy to use and all provided clear instructions. If I had to choose one it would be google maps simply because I could yell at the screen and tell it to "drive to xxxxx" Interestingly enough here are the data profiles from the 3 apps after 1 weeks usage. Note that Waze only got used once during the week, google maps for most of the weeks trips within the Lake District, and the built in SAT NAV for the journey from home to the Lakes and from the Lakes back home. Google Maps - 39.34 mb Waze - 7.23 mb Teathering / Hotspot (used for the build in SAT NAV) - 26.17 mb. Off Road! OK I say off road, it was more like unpaved driveways. I had occasion to drive up to someone else's cottage purely by mistake. Their cottage was at the top of a steep (about 15%) hill and I had to drive up and down a rutted and stoney drive for about 1/4 mile to be able to turn around again. this is the first time Bear has been off tarmac. I decided that I'd click the "Off Road" button for sh*ts and giggles and off I went up and down this drive way. The one noticeable point was on the way down the decent assist kicked in and Bear took over the breaking making sure the car didn't simply roll off down the road. Now I'm sure some of you are laughing at this point and to be fair I have no clue about off roading but from my very limited experience gained whilst driving Jeeps in Canadian Winters, Bear did just fine Overall...... Bear rocked it's that simple. Did everything I asked of her without issue and swallowed up everything I throw at her. and now, as you can imagine Bear is a little messy and for those of you how have seen some of my previous posts... OCD TRIGGERED !!!!

  2. Picked up this beauty this morning . Scout 2.0 tdi 150 7 seat. Currently enjoying how clean and nice it is before my kids trash it.

  3. Just the space saver and 4th yr warranty as it was dealer stock, but the scout has pretty much everything I wanted bar the colour maxi dot, but after a day of driving it I am already over it!

  4. Congrats on your day out. For info the BTCC lap record is 47.990 seconds. Tim Ingram qualifying 2016. Rickard Rydells Volvo from the super touring era is slower (hence not holding record) so they are being a little optimistic/untruthful. In relation to the Yeti, which runs no aero and road legal tyres, the times are not really compatible.

  5. I too was a very early Yeti adopter - a Muscovado 2009 1.2 TSi SE (with park assist). I've now had three of them and still think it's an excellent car. Probably the best out of >100 I've owned over the years. I've now decided to run my current Yeti after warranty expiry and have eschewed main-dealer servicing. I looked at a few alternatives, but nothing has quite the same character as a Yeti. I recall telling another member on here (now a Yeti owner) that it is a "happy car". I will be sad to see mine finally go, but given the residuals are now very poor I plan to see it out to the bitter end! i have the 1.0 TSi engine in my Rapid clone (Toledo) and find it both more powerful and economical than the 1.2 TSi, but a little lacking in torque at low revs. I suspect the DSG in your new car will mask this though. It cruises well and I'm seeing mid 40's from my manual 1.0 110 BHP car. Your fuel returns from the DSG 1.2 TSi are epic. One of the main reasons I parted with my (manual) 1.2 was poor fuel economy, I generally got low 30's and never more than low 40's. My first Yeti replaced a manual 1.6 Petrol Qashqai and I still remember what a revelation it was driving the Yeti, after 2 years in a first generation (normally aspirated) Qashqai, despite relatively similar engine outputs. Best of luck with the Karoq

  7. I'm with you as I also like to follow this thread. I admire Volf's determination and perseverance when faced with an issue and the fact that he keeps us informed with what's going on.

  8. If the screen has a 'metallic' tinge to it then its got a heated screen. No visible wires. Picture below is my 2018 SportLine with heated screen, you can kind-of see it. Ignore the weird diagonal line, its a reflection of our telephone wire!

  9. Superb heated screen uses a metalic film rather than wire elements. The film acts as the solar reflective layer too. All other models (as far as I've seen) use the wire filaments (much simpler construction, and therefore cheaper production costs)

  10. The OP isn’t very tech savvy so I kept it simple. Ever wonder why people don’t bother posting help when smart arse posters like you pop up.

  11. Last Post! Well I hope not, but it is my last post as a Yeti owner. Today we pick up our new Moon White Karoq. A 1.0 litre TSI with DSG and a few extras. Whilst looking forward to the new vehicle, I will really miss the friends and comradeship that I have found here in the Yeti section. I find the Yeti section to be the most friendly of all the sections here at Briskoda. So, with your permission, I will continue to haunt these hallowed halls and may occasionally chip in my two penn’orth in the hope that I will still be welcome and may even be able to help someone - who knows. In 2010 we became one of the relatively early owners of a Yeti. A 1.2 DSG SE. A vehicle which was replaced by another in 2016, identical except for colour and that it was a Face-Lift version Yeti. That means we have had Yeti’s for eight years now and the only fault was a delaminated screen on the first car. So for those who are interested / concerned regarding MPG. I have kept Brim to Brim records of our fuel consumption on our second Yeti, and over the last two years it has achieved 46.77 MPG! Mostly over A & B roads with some occasional motorway work. So, no mechanical, paintwork or electrical issues on two Škoda Yeti’s in the last eight years and excellent MPG to boot! Who could complain! Well, ME! Oh Škoda, why are you not still making this amazing vehicle that after eight years still puts a big smile on my face whenever I get behind the wheel? I am living in hopes that the Karoq may do the same - we will see…. As always, my very best wishes to all here and especially to those who have helped me during the last happy eight years of Yeti ownership. Most of which I am proud to call friends. Stay safe! All my best……….Tony

  12. That’s the Swing unit, not a Bolero ( Bolero has 4 buttons each side of a larger screen) . Otherwise, I’ve no wisdom for you regarding different heads. Apart from the Chinese Android units, there is an Alpina unit I’ve heard mentioned. No more details, sorry. Do a search too, over on Octavia 3 section and the ICE section. Do post your researches! All best.

  15. I’m tempted to just replace the top right mount but it will be a few days until I can get round to doing that at least

  16. Anything relating to suspension should be done as an axle pair always, no question no choice in my opinion. If you want the car to handle in a predictable and reliable way consider this, a worn spring maybe stiffer or softer than the replacement or due to fail at any time a recipe for disaster.

  17. Most road car ‘aero’ isn’t there to generate downforce but to improve stability at speed. You’re just not travelling at anything like the velocities that would generate the kind of downforce that makes a noticeable difference to lateral grip (which is what aero is there for on the track). What road car aero can do, though, is reduce or counterract lift - a common problem on road cars which sit well above the tarmac and shift around too much on their suspension. But who cares as long as it looks good?

  18. Probably best getting the balancing of the front wheels checked and if it is that then it's cheap to fix.
    1 point
  19. If it sounds bad take it back and have them fix it (probably a loose bolt), shouldn't be any niggles on a new car :-) I had similar in my cupra, but a healthy dose of DnB and a jolt or two over some speed bumps and it disappeared, so I guess I was pretty lucky.

  21. The APR 245 demo car in Germany was recently clocked at 280kph (175mph) on the unrestricted Autobahn with 330bhp. Next month mine will have between 350-370bhp hopefully. Top speed circa 288kph (180mph) LOL HA HA !

  22. A thing to check are the wheel weights. I've had it when my van had tyres and I was getting a judder from the rear. When it was checked, it was found one of the weights had gone and that was the issue. Certainly sounds similar to your issue

  23. Morning :-) I think you will find it is the software on the Nokia phone that is incompatible with the car. I recently bought two Nokia 216 phones to use in our Yeti and now our new Karoq. Whilst the Bluetooth version on the phones is (I think!) the latest one available. The software that drives the phone is peculiar to Nokia. In my case , its "Windows Series 30+". This results in only certain facilities of the phone being able to be used. The most annoying of which is that the Phone Book (contacts) only displays phone numbers! No Name and no picture! I tried putting your vehicle / phone combination into the Skoda Compatibility checker [LINK = https://compatibilitylist.skoda-auto.com/ ] and it unfortunately shows no compatibility whatsoever for the 220. Perhaps you might like to try it? It appears that this software has issues with a number of different manufacturers and that you and I have fallen foul of this irritating problem. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Chin-up, not the end of the world but annoying nonetheless.........Tony

  24. Hi the fuse has done its job, did you replace the battery or a mechanic. perhaps the battery was shorted to ground during fitting and this load drew too much power and the fuse blew. Fuses although supposed to last forever do get weaker over time, and quite possibly the high humidity in the rainy season may have caused a resistive load....speculation of course. Usually when a fuse blows it will blow almost immediately again, but as Fuses get weaker this episode could, and hopefully ,be a one off.

  25. I've got both above mentioned MOD and the AUDI Throttle mod. Compared to a "untouched" car there is a difference in behaviour but I can't say if it behaves as an Audi or not edit: no fault codes at all from mods

  28. The MKI vRS has a lovely 1.9pd 130 engine although many are chipped - service history essential - declare ALL mods to an insurance company and sorry the mk1 Fabia vRS does not have low insurance - especially for a new driver. We had some multi £1000 insurance quotes for my son - He's now got my old 2001 Octavia with the 75bhp 1.416v which was reasonable re insurance. Whatever you are going to buy get insurance quotes before you commit.

  36. First dsg I’ve had and I use auto hold all the time, It creeps along just fine with gentle pressure on the brake pedal to slow or stop and will start creeping again when brake pedal released. Harder push on brake pedal when stopped and it will sit there with the brakes applied without having to keep foot on brake.

  37. So here is an update They scanned it - and got some "intermittent" errors for the pump - problem with the pump's motor - ups, £250ish new one :( But they also suggested that there can be a simple problem with just stuck carbon brushes. So they lifted the car - and gently tapped the motor with a spanner - bingo, started spinning So they took motor apart - few screws on the housing - no need to drain oil - cleaned it and after 30 minutes - I was back on the road

  40. I never know which is better, I do lift off near the top and let inertia take me over the top. Judging by the distance/gaps afterwards not many do this. In the peak there is a road, it's called the woodhead pass. I used to commute this and if there is a lorry on it you will be doing 40 eventually. So having a morning and evening plan helped and was very comparable from day to day. Then rolling quickly I'd catch backup to the traffic, mostly all sat on brake lights. On a good run I don't touch brakes. Of course late at night, there'd be no traffic or lorries, so brakes and full throttle and no efficiency calculations required So not 100% and just enough to get you over the top safely. I'm not sure if this is efficient, but it's certainly entertaining, for me anyway. We can overtake up or down hill and even on corners where it's safe to do so. I'm increasingly seeing people ignore the solid white line we have where it's deemed unsafe to do so. Darwin has much to catch upon.

  42. Could this be the reason Rusty is so hard to fill with fuel? It's the breather from the fuel tank and looks like it has been pinched under the tank at some point. Need to get underneath and work out where it goes, then replace it. Also, standard school run pic.
