  1. I’m pretty lucky being allowed to drive such a powerful beasts across the country. Crew are currently undergoing traction training on them. And what about that for a name?.....😀

  2. So an update to this. I am going to hold my hand up and confess straightaway that I think it all was caused by a "loose" battery connection. So apologies to nige8021 who called it right first time. When it happened again i actually tried to shake the negative lead and found that it rotated. It wasn't loose but equally wasn't as tight as it should have been. I have re-tightened the clamps and it seems to have solved the problem. A problem that i caused because i changed the battery a couple of years ago myself! Lessons learnt and all that.

  3. Some time ago I posted a note about the ACC on my Superb failing for no apparent reason. Since then letters and telephone calls have been exchanged with Skoda about the integrity of the sensor on the front of my car. I am pleased to report that Skoda have paid for the ACC to be re-calibrated, but to date have not replied to my letter questioning their design choices for the sensor and the warranty policy for it. One thing which is irrelevant to my complaint with Skoda is one evening, having had a few glasses of Scottish falling down water, I bashed the sensor with my fist. Having done that and sworn at it, as you do, the result was that when my wife turned on the ignition the failure light went off. The ACC worked thereafter until the re-calibration exercise. So, if you have a failure of your ACC in future, and before you spend anything up to £450, have a few glasses of good malt whisky bash the sensor and swear at it. It worked for me. Cheers David Linton.

  4. There might be a simple solution to the current political stalemate. Parliament hasn't sat for a couple of weeks and have we noticed any difference? What has parliament actually achieved over the last few years? We appear to have lots of career politicians who have not got a clue about life, never done a day's work, but think that they have the right to tell us what to do. It used to be the captains of industry that steered the economy and the country, now it's someone with twitter account or on facesh1t. Why don't we just scrap parliament and take direct rule from Brussels? Think of the money we will save, we could use it on the NHS! The civil service could admister the running of the country, with local councils looking after local issues. The houses of Parliament needs to be refurbished so that could be turned into flats. The downside is that there will be 650 untrained unemployable a55holes looking for work, but hey ho who cares. After all they don't care about us. 😎

  6. Having owned 3 Yetis between 2011 and 2019 - two diesels and one petrol - I moved to a 2018 Superb 2.0 TDi SEL Executive 190 DSG, just ten days ago. Formerly a Skoda Management car, eleven months old with a mere 3,470 on the clock, it had my name on it. Apart from giving it a good clean and having yet another towbar fit by Phil Taylor Towbars at Horndean, I have only done local running to date. So far, impressed by the extra comfort, quiet cabin and just how economical it appears to be.

  7. Obviously there’s a momentous decision about to happen later today but let me pose this question. If the government is found to be in the wrong will they be able to appeal to a higher European court?

  8. Like many on here I have been suffering with a kangaroo under the bonnet of my (18 plate) 1.5Tsi manual. Skoda UK have been updating me on a regular basis on a fix for this issue. Last Friday the fix was applied, WOW. I now have a car that drives like it should have done from the start. RESULT!

  10. Corbyn wants to be PM, just like our Michael Martin wants to replace Leo. But not now as theres too much risk involved. Jezza knows if he gets made top dog before Brexit is done, he's stuffed as soon as its complete. Just like BoJo knows he is stuffed if survives long enough to get it through, so everything he is doing in a sense (to him..) isnt making his situation any worse. A GE now will serve no purpose other than wasting time. And again... remember that a no deal exit has been blocked by law, and the GFA issues bite future trade deals in the a55. I foresee (as an outsider) another extension application. Followed by another Tory leader race, followed by GE, followed by Corbyn crying into his cornflakes trying to get a new deal through, followed by actual brexit, followed by GE and Corbyn retiring from politics as the man who took you out of Europe.. (which as i say, he doesnt want to be...)

  12. Boris will have to stand down. JRM will also have to resign from the privy Council as he pulled the trigger. No confidence vote expected to be raised tomorrow. Current thinking is a labour supported government, but only if Corbyn plays no part.

  18. Yes I would say there is absolutely no benefit in getting OEM pads and disks. Those supplied as standard on my Superb were at the bottom end of quality. Virtually anything from Pagid, Brembo, even Delphi, is better!
    2 points
  19. This has been discussed many times before, if your disks and pads are OK it is not unusual for brakes to need a refresh mid way through their life. Especially if it has little use. Take the lose stuff off the disk with a wire brush, the lip can be flattened with hand tools and then the pad needs re-dressing to get rid of glazing and embedded crud. If this cannot be done really easily then you are ****ing into the wind doing anything other than changing them. In the great scheme of things it is not a difficult or overly costly job. To clean them up properly it is the same work (if not more) than changing them. Any of the parts places ECP, GSF etc etc (or Autodoc if you are happy to wait), will supply parts that are more than good enough. ATE or Brembo plain disks with ATE pads, failing that Brembo or Pagid pads will be all you need, often better than Skoda OEM and often over half the price.

  21. Very unlikely that a dealer will know what they are doing with this bar emptying your wallet and your will to live. As you have a 2014 Elegance, the unit will be a "Columbus" system. Wait for the resident guru on the Columbus ( @Rustynuts )to respond to this post - he will give you the best advice on what to do and/or the options for repair etc.
    2 points
  22. No, not necessary. Of course, this is true provided the unit hasn't had any "custom" firmware installed at some point which can reduce the size of the maps partition in favour of more music space.

  24. Thanks a lot SashaGrace! Your respond is very useful as always! So if I conclude correctly to "upgrade" the current swing radio is not really a clever idea, since I'd need to buy BT modul, wiring between BT modul (which would than be placed under the passenger's seat as in MK2 octy?) and the wiring of BT modul is quite a job I assume. So this indicates either changing the whole unit to a bigger Skoda unit OR to get an aftermarket solution. For the bigger Skoda unit is this what is needed? * head unit (to be located in the glove box?) * display * BT modul * wiring between head unit and display * wiring between head unit and BT modul * removing component protection from the head unit by official dealer? (other components are not CPd?) Does both MIB2 Amundsen and MIB2.5 Columbus offer mirrorlink to display waze? I am considering to buy the parts from ebay but I wonder: How do I know if the components I buy are compatible with each other and my car? I would be really happy to get advice on above. Or if somebody can recommend an aftermarket solution, which DOES handle the same as the current CAR menu. (But I doubt there is any...) Thanks again!

  25. On that basis we could go from a non elected PM to a non elected government. Wow, that really is democracy! In the good old days there would have been a general election. They will have to have one soon as I heard that there is a shortage of chicken feed.

  27. Hi Idol - thanks for your interest. You're right. I know it's been a while since I've done an update. Unfortunately, I'm struggling to find a FREE reliable database despite checking the web every day. No-one seems to have uploaded any new ones for a couple of months. I've got access to one site but they've only got fixed cams and red light ones and I would prefer to have average speed cams and variable speed cams as well. So the short answer is yes but until I can find a free database then my hands are tied. Keep watching this space though. ☺️

  31. Wow! That's some outcome and a stark reminder that as individuals we stand no chance taking on these big businesses. Collectively we might stand a chance but that would take some organising on an international scale and seems like 'pie in the sky ' . **** street comes to mind but also VAG never again!!😉

  33. No! It's UP TO a maximum of 2yrs. Variable servicing means that time can vary. The time the oil lasts depends on a number of factors - how the car has been driven and in what environment it's been driven.

  34. Videos from the Super Lap Scotland sessions at the Knockhill Racing Circuit Tartan Tarmac Big Day Oot! event yesterday. First time out with the new Ibiza estate rear axle and mk4 Golf Anniversery 256mm rear brakes. Took the first session pretty easy to get used to it, car feels more stable going through duffus now as the axle is 15mm wider, didn't think it would make that much of a difference but it really did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEl4uPLKGE0 After getting an idea of how the car handled after the recent changes it gave me more confidence going into the second session and managed to get times down to 65.8 but it started to rain harder as the session went on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5rdYmkTy_M After lunch the weather turned and made the car completely wet, first time every driving the car around knockhill in the wet and on ZZR's at that too. Always thought people overexageriated how slippy the kerbs were now i know they weren't 😳 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3soV3oMjlYg Mini following https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H_P9N84T6A slidey bits Still an awesome day out 😆

  35. Thomas cook paid execs utterly ridiculous salary and share packages. Current boss paid £8.3m since 2014. 2,9m bonus 4 years ago. Enough cash there to save the company. 2 Finance officers earned about 7m since 2014. Share bonus of 5.6m to former chief exec in 2015. Chairman had 1.6m since 2014 - the chairman is a figurehead role. A previous chief exec took 17m between 2007 - 2011 while slashing jobs. When employees see this they react with anger, the pilots had them by the short and curly's and negotiated lucrative pay settlement. A first officer (not a captain) being paid £800 to make himself available for stand by flight on a day off for example. So paid that even if not called into work. The business was in a nosedive caused by greed that started at the top. The poor staff in the shops, the flight crew and reps etc were not well paid. I hate to say it but the worst kind of corporate greed ruined a great traditional business.

  36. Oil is good enough after the end grain sealer on all cuts. Any parts resting on the ground I would give them a couple of coats at least. Deck oil is a low build treatment. Wood treatments are basically either high build - which attempts to bridge gaps and cracks and seal out the weather, or low build that soaks in preserving and waterproofing. Low build on rough timber is always best, you will see water bead on the boards after treatment.

  37. So a bit another quick update and some more info: last week the car went into profusion customs for a cat back exhaust and the guys there did an amazing job! The sound is exactly what I wanted, I nice noise under full throttle with a few little crackles and pops but almost silent when cruising, then this morning remap kings came out to do a stage 1 remap which makes the exhaust sound even better, the diffuser and arches are also painted gloss black now, this car is really starting to come together! arches : eBay universal fender flares 70mm wheels: cromodora bully 17” built to 10.5j front and 11.5j rear (unknown et) the diffuser is from CSR i still have more more in the box of goodies in the garage ready to go on (more bodywork) watch this space

  43. But the buttons will not work in the Superb, the buttons are very easily swapped over though (I have a vRS / Sportline wheel in my L&K) personally I prefer the perforated leather used on the FBSW: Then with the vRS badge removed (far better IMO):
