P200200 low efficiency of the DPF
I believe on certain engines the upstream o2 sensor works with ecu and dpf. If its sending false readings it can confuse ecu etc and have read on rare occasion it can trigger same code. I would check its working properly or change it as there not that expensive unlike a new dpf. Alasdair

Newby question- can i put steel rims on my Octavia
If its any help I have been running GT radial tyres FE2 (summer) and my sons got GT radial all season on his Fabia. Both had them on for over a year and excellent tyres in dry and wet. All seaons are a bit more expensive but son likes them and very good in winter. There mid range but last set got discount if I bought online. Worked out at around £60-00 (summer) £70(all season) per tyre fitted. Alasdair

1.6tdi blue smoke until engine warms
Thats typical. If it still does it after you get it back maybe a tank of supreme diesel and some decent injector cleaner will help. As there is a strong smell of diesel could be a dirty/bad pattern injector or maybe multiple failed dpf regens. Saw a post on here that oil level became very high and caused runaway due to it being diluted with diesel. They had been doing very short runs and dpf never fully regenerated. Get garage to check engine oil if they can. Alasdair

Skoda fabia 1.6 CR estate (4mm vacuum pipe) snapped off rocker assembly repair
Hopefully just needs new injector seals. I agree with the 1.9tdi. Had a fabia,Seat altea and octavia all with 1.9tdi old school engines with no dpf and less to go wrong. Paid £1800 aprox each and had them for 5 years 160k until dreaded rust became terminal. Still have two sitting for spares and they still run perfectly. Now on a 1.6tdi Octavia mk2 but would swap back tomorow. Alasdair

P200200 low efficiency of the DPF
Mine was a 1.9tdi engine and only had one EGR the vaccum actuator diaphram had failed so egr and kept getting insufficient flow codes. Looks like this Sorry didnt realise that the newer engines (mine were MK2) have two and electrical rather than vacuum operated. Maybe a wiring fault to egr somewhere or a slight exhaust leak before DPF. Read when you change G450 theres a procedure with VCDS to adapt it to car. If its not done it can keep throwing up codes. P200200 low efficiency of the DPF
Is the egr valve working properly. Might be worth checking its holding vacuum. Had one fail on a Seat 1.9tdi. Vacuum diaphram was leaking. Another thing to check is the DPF/exhaust pressure sensor. Had a quick google and its sensor G450. No idea where it may be on the MK3 but according to google looks like this. Alasdair

Skoda fabia 1.6 CR estate (4mm vacuum pipe) snapped off rocker assembly repair
You were lucky there was a car left. As to the broken pipe maybe drill out and either tap thread and use something like this Or glue something like this Reckon if gluing maybe araldite or specific glue for plastic. Alasdair

Christmas tree of warning lights
Maybe cluster isnt fully home in connector or as said maybe earth fault Alasdair

Christmas tree of warning lights
Normally a christmas tree of warning lights etc is due to low battery. What voltage are you reading with car off and also running. If the voltage is good then I would suspect either a failing cluster or in my case the cluster needed removing, cleaned contacts and socket and refitted. It had either come loose or there was some corrosion at connector. The starting and stopping could be that the ecu isnt reading cluster and puting imobilser on. If battery is good check earths as well as a poor earth can cause voltage drop Alasdair

Code P261 A and B- turbo cooling pump
Did you clear codes. Certain ones require manual clearing as they don't disappear when new part is fitted as stored in ecu. It could also be an airlock in system. Not sure if theres a specific bleeding process on yours. Alasdair

Newby question- can i put steel rims on my Octavia
I ran steel wheels with winter tyres for a couple of years without any problem. Just make sure the centrebore/pcd and off set are suitable. PCD - 5 x 112 CB - 57.1 Offset 47 https://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Skoda/Octavia%20(2013%20-%202020).html will give you possible tyre sizes and wheel size. I have leaks in all my cars with alloys but have never had problems with steel. Have a people carrier thats been sitting for 5 years now and still air in tyres on steel wheels. Alasdair

Front Shock Absorber Rebuild
I agree chances are the shock will fail as soon as you put a new top mount on. My bad run of luck I think is old cars and cars sitting too long plus freezing weather and roads are shocking.

Front Shock Absorber Rebuild
Not sure but just noticed think the bolt that your looking for is in the second picture. Three for top mount, 1 nut for strut and bolt and nut for base of shock. From memory on my octavia they just sit by themselves unless mine was missing. I used a cold chisel to carefully wedge open knuckle to separate the shock. You may need a special socket for top of strut to hold while loosening and tightening. I got away with a swan neck spanner. Hate doing springs. Have had a bit of a run of blown shocks and broken springs. Hope I dont have to do any more soon. In the last year I have had three shocks and 4 broken springs.(two were on the rear so easier to change) Alasdair

Central locking/ door not unlocking
If the dash isnt showing open door or internal light coming on then it might be the door switch thats failed or broken wire in rubber gaitor at pillar. My mk2 octavia opens driver door and then on second press passenger door and boot. keeps coming up with message check deadlock but no idea what it means. Alasdair

Front Shock Absorber Rebuild
If I remember correctly you have to use new bolt to fix shock to knuckle. I didnt bother but used threadlock on mine as I had it apart before I realised. Also the top mounts on my Octavia have a specific direction to be mounted. Check the old ones when they are removed. Skoda ones have arrows but the KYB ones I got didnt so had to fit by comparison. I assume you have a decent safe spring compressor? Not sure if you need to remove Hub. If so you will need new nuts. When I did mine the bolts that hold top mount were seized and started spinning. I managed to get a long extension bar with socket in wheel arch to stop the nuts that had broken their welds from turning. Alasdair

Octavia 1.6tdi CR 2011 105cv vibrations and coolant loss
From these codes P020300 it may be number 3 injector thats failing or a wiring fault to it. The other code I think relates to MAF. If its rough idling try and disconnect MAF. Sometimes if the MAF is bad the idling will improve if disconnected. May be difficult to tell if you have a misfire on no 3. Is your VCDS cable genuine? Not sure if you can swap injectors around to check like coil packs as I think they are coded individually to engine Alasdair

Octavia 1.6tdi CR 2011 105cv vibrations and coolant loss
The ones with silicate bag I think have Mit Silikat on the tank and the tanks I think have a double skinned section. Have you scanned with vcds and are there any fault codes at all? Alasdair

2014 Skoda Fabia Mk2 1.6 TDI 105BHP 135,000 miles, time to call it quits?
As you have had it since three years and is now 12 years old it depends on what you would get for it. Try we buy any car etc to get a ballpark figure and ask at garages re trade in value. If its in really good condition I would probably keep it and replace injectors unless you get offered a reasonable amount. You could get it scanned with vcds to check condition of DPF . EGR valve is generally cleanable or fairly easy to replace. If you go down the lines of something older and petrol you may end up with a different set of problems. At least you know the last 9 years of history of this car. Son wants to upgrade from his mk1 1.2 but its giving us no problems and although a 55 plate remarkably free off rust. Alasdair

When was skoda octavia mk2 facelift year/need wing mirror
Have a 2012 octavia estate 1.6tdi and wing mirror got totaled a few days ago. Guy in lorry who destroyed it was really decent and came to house to let us know. He said if I get it fixed and he would pay for it rather than go through his companies insurance so thought I would use the one off my old 58 plate as it has indicators built in to save him some money. I assumed it was facelift wing mirror as it has indicators built in but not the same shape of glass . My 2012 is a facelift model as its got the indicators but glass is slightly different shape. How many designs of wing mirrors did the MK2 have? Colour is light silver and have found a few that look the same colour but are described as grey. Alasdair

1.6tdi blue smoke until engine warms
Failed glow plugs can cause light blue white smoke especially when starting from cold due to small amount of diesel not being burnt properly. Once warm should burn diesel completely as no need for glowplugs. Hopefully a simple fix. Could also be failing turbo seals. My old volvo smoked when at idle for any length of time and cleared itself when revs increased Alasdair
