Cars you don't see on the roads any more

I've just been to Malta, and saw several Mk2 Cortinas (one diesel!), several Marinas, and lots of Mk1 Escorts. Lots of late 80s - early 90s Skodas, and a couple of Ladas too.

I was there recently too and saw lots of old cars and buses, including this Vauxhall Victor on Gozo.

The last one I saw was in a museum in Coventry...

It’s obviously a car that belongs to the ‘Cars you very occasionally see on the road and sometimes can find in a museum’ category.

I saw a Mk2 Austin Cooper S I sold in 1974 darting round Altrincham Cheshire a month or so ago. I doubt other than the rear number plate there was much left of the original though. It was certainly a lot faster than it used to be.

Talbot Tagoras, havent seen one for years and also the Peugeot 604. I think the old 70s and 80s Renaults are the rarest cars, when did you last see a Renault 6,11,12, etc etc.

I saw this Renault 16 3 weeks ago on the autobahn near Darmstadt in Germany. I later passed a few more, so there must have been an owners' club meeting in the area.

Being a Vw whore as well as a Fabia driver I'd have to list:-

Mk1 Scirocco

Mk1 golf (anything non-GTi)

MK2 golf (anything non-GTi)

Santana GL5

Mk1 Polo

MK2 Polo

MK1 Jetta

Loads of them have disappeared!

I saw a Mk1 Golf GL last week actually , and a Mk2 Driver.

My brother still has my late father's 2 litre Cortina Crusader sat in the garage. He had planned to restore it at some stage to it's former glory. It was one of the all metallic gold versions as seen at the front below, as opposed to the two-tone

I saw most of them last week, unfortunately not on the road but in a specialist breakers yard.

I saw these two cars in Devon earlier this year and both appeared to be in regular use on a weekday.

The first one is a Ford Cortina Mk1 I saw in Exeter.

The second one is a Singer Gazelle(?) I saw in Teignmouth.

The Cortina mk1 is a 1500GT, not a Lotus, despite the colous scheme. Lotus Cortinas were all 2-door.

The Singer is the earliest Arrow-series car I've ever seen, if that's the original plate.

Good spot. I think that deserves this weeks ‘Golden Anorak’

Theres a 2CV in the car park at work right now!

Saw a DS on the way in this morning, an interesting brown colour. Was certainly turning some heads, despite being in "honest" condition.

Quoteby cjb,Very much 70s. Lovely though. Did you know they're heavily based on the Avenger ?

I was surprised.

No i didnt know that and ive actualy worked on a couple over the years if i remember they had a propper 2.2 litre inclined lotus built engine

.Which, in it's turn, was based on the Vauxhall slant 4 engine.

Is that true though? I thought the Lotus 2.2 was based on the Jenson Healey engine, which was not a relative of the Vauxhall slant 4 (being designed as a 16v, rather than as half a small-block V8).
