Hi Skoda People.

I've just bought my first Skoda, a 2009 Superb. It has the Columbus Unit. Having read lots of posts on here, it seems I've a hell of a lot of work to do with upgrades. I'm hoping one of you can help me with this. here is where I'm at right now.

Apologies - I know I'm years behind some of the posts I've seen on these topics.

Phone Bluetooth.

  • I have an iPhone 5s. when I tried to pair it, it can see the phone name on the MFD (White text), but won't connect. So based on several posts, I've ordered a 3C8 035 730 E unit from eBay. So hoping that will fix that issue. I've heard and been told that it's simply a case of plug and play, no coding needed.

SD Card

  • I put in an old SD card with the music in Mp3 format and it didn't work:( something about check the SD card/error???
  • I've now bought a SDHC card with 16GB and will try that, but I THINK I need to upgrade the firmware on my Columbus, for that to even work??? correct???
  • What is the story with the firmware? I understand it's basically the software for the Columbus. What's all this talk of Bricking? Surely a software upgrade should be easy and not putting the whole unit at risk of crashing/dying? I'm wondering if I'm better off leaving well alone, if the music can be streamed eventually from my iphone??? Although I do want the latest software, if I can have it of course.
  • Regarding firmware - what type DVD disks should I use? I have both DVD+R, or DVD-DL? which one?
  • Also, where do I download the latest firmware? I really need help in the steps for doing all this:(

Maps

  • I have a DVD in the glove box for the maps, an old version at this stage I'd imagine. (I'll get the full details asap).
  • My local Skoda main dealer said he has the 2015 DVD of Sat Nav Maps and will charge me 30 quid to install and upgrade the maps.
  • If I am going to upgrade the Firmware, I understand I should do this first, BEFORE updating to the 2015 maps.

that's it. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me here.....

Thanks

John,

Firmware before maps is best (to be on the safe side).

£30 for a dealer to do it (and fix it if it goes wrong) is a bargain considering I've heard of ones in England charging £200!

Format the SD card with FAT16 (can be done on Mac as well) and ensure the MP3 files are not encrypted or protected.

In theory it will, but you might not get POI's on there. It depends upon the size of your hard disk and how the firmware has partitioned the disc.

Certainly with 412x firmware, v.9 and above maps don't have enough room in a 30Gb Columbus to fit the POI's in as its partition ratios are different and based upon a 40Gb HD.

Although 402x has slightly more room for POI's it's going to depend upon how big the map files actually are.

Hi Folks

apologies, I know this is an old thread.

what is the latest version of firmware available for my Columbus in my 2009 superb? I believe the latest maps are v12 for 2015, right?

can someone tell me, what is the advantage of upgrading the firmware? Are the interface controls different, better, etc? Example, with the HDD, have they sorted out a better way to load music and then play it randomly/shuffle? is upgrading the firmware worth the risk to the unit itself?

help please?

thanks

Without knowing your part number, I'd be guessing at 4120.

There's nothing to gain beyond that.

However, you may not be able to get that depending upon the revision / version you have.

Hi, yeah, I believe I need a VAG diagnosis unit plugged in to be able to access the "Secret Menu" on the Columbus in order to see the version details, etc.

I'd like to upgrade the firmware, but if it's not really worth it, then maybe best leave alone and just do the maps.

Same year, my superb 4x4 elegance. Done the upgrade with a normal CD-R tried the 4120 andit didn't work and burned a lower version of the software, installed v12 maps after, sd card works (32gb), dvd's are working while driving aswell, don't watch films and drive :)). Secret menu is by pressing i (or small speaker in top right) and setup button at the same time. Mine booted as soon as I inserted the cd. Read around, thats how I got to do it ;)

I have a V12 maps on disc from audisatnavs, if any one near me wants to borrow it, and update their maps.   seems to be quite up to date, as previous roundabout near me, has now been replaced by a junction, and a retail park, has it's inner roads now displayed, ( previously you were off road).

Hello I am new to Skoda and in car sat navs.

I have just picked up a 2014 Superb L&K. I have a few questions on software updates / upgrades.

- I have a Columbus with the following numbers:

Del Part Number: 3T0 035 686H

HW 021

SW 6270

..

Map V HDD 8048

- I have been browsing the net and found a Firmware version 6276 and I noticed the Map upgrade to 8195. The difference in numbers is quite small. Is there any use in going to 6276 and 8195?

-I read on some internet sites and in here about diagnostic cables: 2 more expensive ones - VCP and VCDS - and some cheaper ones. All seem to be able to read and erase fault codes and also do some degree of coding.

What are the main differences of these leads? Are they any good? I have used Volvo Vida Dice which seemed a bit more complicated than these.

Leave the firmware (6270) alone. Nothing to be gained by trying to improve anything there. Maps update is always a possibility and is simple to do with a map dvd. You could ask the supplying dealer if they'll do it as a possible favour but to buy the disc will cost £200 or so.

VCDS costs about £250 - £300 depending where you buy. Anything cheaper is stolen / ripped off software and cheap aftermarket cables. I would suggest the genuine version is a good idea. At least then you get technical support from the manufacturers and will be offered assistance by other people who also use the tool.

Hi all, first post so go easy. A lot to read through and it doesn’t match my year of car. Does anybody know a private after-sales business in Shropshire that would assist in firmware and map updates?

SUPERB ELEGANCE TDI CR DSG 170. 2.0L. 62 plate

thanks in advance
