"Byte 24 Bit 6 - untick Traffic Sign Display (VZA) active leave this TICKED"

why leaving ticked? Any reason?

No particular reason. I had tried all other options to get it working without any success. It was the only way it would work for me.

Incidentally does anyone know what 'VZA' stands for.

Just looked it up on google translate. Looks like it's an anagram of Verkehrszeichenanzeige which means 'traffic sign display'

Anybody knows how to enable this? I have a colleague with no parking assistant and no towing bar, but he has this. Camera itself is the same.

I show my windscreen with "big camera". With this if I can activate it, right?

Yes. That´s the A5 camera that gives you High Beam Assist, Lane Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition :)

Because its the work of someone else and if he does not want to share it everywhere he can do so. Some are using the work of others and sell it on ebay etc...

I thought that the creator of the OneNote file shared it himself earlier in this thread.

Do a search for djduese in this topic and you'll find his post, it was made on 22/06/16 at 04:52.

Most people have no issues with a link being posted directly to their site (as they freely do themselves) where the problem lies is when it is people simply ‘copy & paste’ giving the true author no credit and passing off the work as their own.

Not all coding can be accredited to a particular person either, I have in the past posted a particular coding before anyone else and likewise sometime you find out someone else ‘found’ the coding before you did.

Several of us have spent many an hour sat in a car trying various ‘virgin’ coding out.

Blindek was right in one thing. I don't allow to copy the pdf and give it to another person or to put it in a forum. It is protected by german copyright.

But it is allowed, to copy the link and write it in the forum, then everyone can look at the pdf or the OneNote. Although I had to protect the pdf that no one can copy the text, or print it. In Germany are some people, who want to earn money with this.

I had to take this steps, because some people tried to sell my work on ebay and other platforms.

Has anyone successfully enabled high beam assist on a MY17 car with the A5 camera?

Yes. Here is how to (the quote is from page 36, go there for more info)

Just follow for example this page. It's a compendium of knowledge from many sources. Maybe sometime it comes :)

https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=3AE6945C79E4C9E!6636&ithint=onenote%2c&app=OneNote&authkey=!ADQH2YqqqP0zcUU

you can read there, the light assist can be enabled in MY2017 as following:

STG 09

Zugriffsberechtigung: 31347

Anpassung

Fernlicht_assistent (vorher Assistenzlichtfunktionen)

Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent Werkseinstellung

auf "vorhanden" setzen

Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent

auf "vorhanden" setzen

Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung

auf "AFS: FLA: BCM-Fernlicht" setzen

STG A5

Codierung

Byte 21 Bit 5-7

XDS diff set to 'strong' using OBDEleven:

03 ABS Brakes
Security code '20103'
Select “Expanded electronic differential lock”
Standard >> Strong

When I initially applied this the ABS and ACC warning lights flashed for around 15-20 seconds and then the change seemed to be accepted.  I ran a scan and no errors/DTC's were thrown.  I went for a drive and could tell the difference straight away.  I carried out another scan when I got home and no problems were found; no problems on my commute to work either.

Forgive me for being a dum dum :) but what exactly does this change and how does it affect the car?

It's basically an electronic differential that uses the ESP system to apply braking to the inside wheel whilst sending more power to the outside wheel, during cornering.   It's like throwing a cartoon rope around a lampost, in the corners.

I had it set to strong on my Leon FR and now the Superb and in both cases you can feel the car digging in and 'gripping' more.  It's easier to feel on a large roundabout where turn in and speed can be constant and controlled.  You don't have to be driving like a tw@7 either :)

Sounds like fun :)

Next questions:

  • What are the available options that can be configured?
  • Why would strong not be the default mode if the car handles better?
  • Does the change have any long term effect on the car?

Thank you :)

IIRC the options for this are 'not activated', 'standard', 'weak', 'medium' and 'strong'.  I dare say that it would be defined by the model/hierarchy of the car you've bought.  On my Leon for example it was set to 'weak' but on the Cupra 280 it was set to 'strong' this is no doubt due to the hefty BHP hike between models, the Cupra 280 only being FFWD, with the front wheels needing to look after power delivery, braking and cornering and SEAT no doubt also wanting their hardened hot hatch to clearly feel more planted than the lesser FR.  I believe the Golf GTD, GTI and R have different settings from the factory too.

I had this set to strong from 3k miles on my Leon to when I sold it with close to 60K miles on the clock.  It was serviced and MOT'd just before and I was still on the original front pads and discs, with no warnings or advisories for replacement in the near term, mine was running 236bhp too.   I used and indy specialist who actually took the wheels off and inspected everything too, not just shine a torch through the alloys.   I would have thought that it would put more 'stress' on steering, suspension and braking components but that would no doubt would only amplify driver habits/style; if you have zero mechanical sympathy and drive your car like you stole it then you'd break it regardless of the diff being turned up, similar to remaps and clutches, etc.

A shout out to Gizmo68 who enabled a host of minor VCDS, um, gizmos in my Sportline. He worked for an hour to try and enable "eyelashes" (which may or may not take, we'll see...) and made three attempts to enable "lane assist" but it would not take. It took just as long to get the system back to where he started from, so a very conscientious job. Thank you very much, Martin.

The most noticeable add-on is "traffic sign recognition" which worked a treat on the ride home from Folkestone.

A nice day for a drive, too, not too crazy out there. Fast, but orderly. Some of the continental traffic tend to cut in a bit close, though. A couple times my "brake" emergency warning flashed up on the dash, but I saw it coming.

On the down side, I am finding the latest Skoda navigation maps lacking: this is the second time I've had to get out my phone to find an address on Google maps.
