Moving from vRs Diesel to vRs Petrol, want a torquey remap

Featured Replies

Getting Skoda number 5 (vRs number 4, petrol number 1) at the end of the month and want to know about any good torque heavy remaps.

Having driven diesel Skodas last 16 years the vw emissions fiddle has persuaded me that diesel's days are numbered. There have now been several politicians hinting NoX emissions need to be reduced and as diesels are the big emitters I truly believe it is going to be hit progressively harder to the extent the mpg positive is wiped out. I am quite likely to be stalling the car a fair bit to start with and would really like to know any good, reliable remaps you guys have got to fill the torque hole going petrol creates. Got 63 vRs Estate CRD, getting 66 vRs Estate Tfsi.

you must be getting a manual.

Give it a couple of weeks but you will soon adapt to the tsi.

I and my wife found we stalled our manual diesel far more often than we have ever stalled our petrol, and our tsi is only the 1.4.

It will not be as bad as you think, although if you use the performance potential then consumption will be.

My TSI is as nearly as torquey as my TDI in standard form, with a stage 1 map it is 99% there.

After having it for a month you won't care, you will be enjoying:

Super quick warm ups

That extra level of smoothness and refinement

The fact the power doesn't slope off at the end

Stop start which doesnt shake the car

The grunty induction noise (could be much better though)

:-D

Same as above, 1.8TSI has tons of torque - both on paper and real life...much more than FWD can transfer; I'm guessing for 2.0TSI it's even more applicable.

Characteristic is almost perfectly flat on torque from 1800rpm or so. In my case it's only the DSG and FWD combination giving a torque limit while engine itself has more pull than rest of the train (FWD again) can handle.

Going from a diesel CR to a TSI. I can't say I've missed the torque.

Super quick warm ups

:-D

This times ten. After having pig iron blocks for the past six years it's awesome how much quicker the cabin warms up. Specially in winter

Overall the story of transition TDI > TSI was similar as Manual>DSG...at least for the engine there is no going back ;)

The TSI has plenty of torque as above. It's a lovely engine, I really don't think you will miss the TDI.

I went from a V6TDI with colossal (IMO) grunt to the 2.0 TSI and don't feel short changed on torque.

I've thought about a Stage 1 Revo map, and people on here keep telling me to get it done, but I'm really not that bothered.

Gaz

I have stage 1 Revo remap with 300bhp and similar amount of torque. Pulls like a train and keeps pulling, unlike the diesel. Have had Revo remap on all 3 VRS's that I have owned, with no problems.

Or save money on remap by pushing pedal to floor or change down and hold on to the redline, either way you'll be happy.

No problems with early clutch wear? 'Some people say' that the manual clutch can't take a tune as well as the DSG clutch.

Mine is a manual gearbox and I have had no problem with clutch wear, although it has only done around 20k miles since the remap. I guess if you do a lot of stop start driving and use the extra power more often than not, the clutch will wear out quicker.

I used to drive a tuned 2,7 TDi with 500nm. Cant say I miss the torque at all.

I had a 190bhp tdi, don't miss the torque either, though TBH then 220 tsi has a fare amount of torque through a large portion of the rev range, and keeps pulling hard right upto 6-7k rpm !

Sensible move. No need for any remap just drive the car first.

We've used AMD Tuning in Lakeside, around the corner from IKEA, 5 times now, all 2.0 TSi's with increased low-down torque + improved drivability every time.

Economy is a little better, but more torque & power everywhere in the rev range is what has made the expense worthwhile.

I've just gone from a MKIII Tdi Vrs to a Petrol 230 Tsi Vrs.

Best thing I've ever done,
