Another mod you can do, depending on how far you want to push it, is injectors from the 1.4 tsi. They're a bolt-on swap too. Definitely considering grabbing that last turbo!

I've built a small 8" subwoofer for my Fabia It's designed to fit snugly in the "basket" in the trunk and have a quick connection so it's easy to remove if needed.  If someone wants to see

  • Just bought my monte carlo a few weeks ago.    Only done a few mods to it so far.   I've lowered it on eibach springs (30/45mm) and sprayed the badges black.    Also clay

Do it, I've just bagged one for £90 from a 2016 golf with 150bhp and 21k miles.  Probably going to wait a few months before installing it because I want to grab an intake and an exhaust too.  I'm also considering fabricating a custom down pipe with a 200 cell Magnaflow cat just to get as much out of the engine as possible.

Damn this forum is a curse, it spends all my money! The injectors are needed for 200+ by the looks of it.

I want to go for it... but then again, I am aiming to do a whole engine swap down the line... and right now i could be spending that money on suspension parts (which do actually need doing!)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Ahah, só many ideias, so much free time, so little money!!!

But thats somenthing to look into a buy on this year. In Portugal its hard to find those parts, but i Will look on um scrapyards, got a friend living near Birmingham and he help me.

I can agree this forum is a curse, I wasn't expecting to be buying a turbo for another year at least, I guess its time to just spend all my money on my car ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lockdown gets those itches itching so badly they must be scratched!

If anyone's interested, here's a comparison between the 1.2 turbo, and the 1.4 turbo;

1.2 TSI

1.4 TSI

The first thing you'll probably notice is the outlet is larger, the next being the larger compressor intake, they can flow more air.

Hnnnng.. damn.. arrrgh! Thing is even if i buy and fit it now, i won't even be able to get it mapped for a while!

That's why I'm going to wait before fitting the 1.4 turbo.  Not much point in adding it until it's ready to get mapped

Would it be possible to put the turbo from a 1.0 tsi onto a 1.0mpi? Or would the mpi engine not be able to handle it?

It probably could just fine, but you'd have to sort out oil feeds, some sort of charge cooling, and additional wiring for the wastegate and MAP sensors.

At that point, you'd probably be better off swapping in a 1.0TSI complete with harness (ECU's are the same i believe so just map it and it'd be good).

I was thinking about an engine swap for later down the line but I wouldn’t know where to find one

A 1.4TSI is a straight swap, though you will most likely need a harness (depending on which engine it is).

The 1.5TSI should fit straight in too, but those seem considerably more expensive, not 100% sure on ECU though.

1.8T and 2.0T use a different ECU (continental simos), so will require adaptation to work with existing ECU (bosch 17.5.something), or stripping out the wiring and replacing it all with stuff from the donor vehicle.

For an engine swap, you're better off finding a donor vehicle and pull the whole engine and harness out, rather than building it from spare parts, otherwise you'll be chasing small parts for months to put it all together.

In future, i'm looking at having a 2.0T custom designed to work with the existing ECU and harness, it'll be expensive and time consuming for sure, but i want to get something that will make 500bhp+ and be completely reliable. Without it looking like a bomb went off inside the car.

It'll make for a nice sleeper for sure. Don't know of any Fabia that came with over 200bhp stock, never mind 500bhp! Should keep those Corsa VXR's and Fiesta ST's at bay ;)

I suppose a turbo swap from a 1.4 would keep my 1.2 happy for now :D

Just gotta hope I can find a donor car for not too much money. But let’s say I go for like a 1.4TSI which you say is a straight swap, will it cause any problems with the 5spd gearbox that came with the MPI?

You'd want to swap the box with the one that came in the donor car. I think the gearbox that the MPI's come with are only rated like 150nm or something, they can handle more than that, but a mapped 1.4T generates 300nm+ so i wouldn't count on it lasting long!

Since we’re on the topic anyways, would it be a lot of work to go from a 5spd manual to a DSG? Like say the donor car came as an automatic, would it be possible to convert to automatic or would it cause a lot of problems?

It'd be more of a hassle, but still doable, it'd require more work with the ECU/mapping to get it to talk with all the mechatronics in the DSG box.

Difficult but not impossible is what I take from this. Welp I guess I know what I’m doing in the future...once I have enough money and find a decent donor car

Just sent that seller an offer for the 1.4 turbo, fingers crossed! Not holding my breath though as i offered a little less than what @cm9876 did!

I think that'll be my only engine mod (along with a remap of course) until I get round to doing a full built 2.0T engine (which will be a few years from now most likely).

Now.. back to saving up for suspension parts :D

Will be interesting if they accept maybe I should have offered less 😂

Another £105 spent 🙃

Has anyone been able to find a full gasket seal kit for these turbos?

The workshop manual only says to replace o ring 19. But is it worth doing them all including no 3 the sheet metal seal and the oil feed / return o rings.uc?export=download&id=1K0utvKqn-c6hihdhY

My turbo arrived today! 😀

It came with part of the air intake still attached.. would rather have not had it so i could inspect the compressors but it looks alright from what i can tell. It spins smoothly with no rough spots or anything.

Just needs a good clean, what is recommended to flush it out? WD-40? GT-85? IPA? Looks like the previous engine had some blow-by as the intake is slightly oily (the intake in my 1.2 is perfectly dry to my surprise).

I ordered https://www.autodoc.co.uk/elring/9970020

I found some pictures online and it comes with the exact same hardware as the other more expensive ones.

The metal mesh-ring goes between the flanges of the turbo-cat v-band part, and is probably best to be replaced to avoid any exhaust leaks along with the main exhaust manifold gasket.

All the little rubber o-rings and gaskets all come with the set so why not replace all of them anyway?

I've queried with a couple mapping places, JBS was the first to respond, quoting me £450 (classed as Stage 3), and approx 150-160bhp, with similar torque to standard but holding steady till much higher rpms.

They also reinforced that it must be the larger turbo from the 140/150PS 1.4TSI engines, as most 122/125PS ones come with the same turbo that's already on the 1.2TSI!

I did sparks plug plugs and air filter yesterday. The air filter was quite dirty maybe original. I have contacted a few companies but all the ones I have spoken to only do "pre developed" remaps.

I had to remove the tube that connects to the compressor side of the turbo. is it normal to have a small amount of oil on the compressor side. On a plus with all them bits removed there is more space to access the turbo than I thought.

Will get them gaskets ordered
