Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch

Ok I see the problem. It’s a very rare one. So sorry you’ve encountered it.

on the info screen, there is a green leaf.

I’ve been advised by my cardiologist that this number is in fact taken from a sensor in the seat. Ideally you should aim for a lower number.

So if you can try to get it into the low 40’s then the laggy, tired, health problems go away.

apparently a healthy diet, 99momentum and having sport mode on,  with a low fat cereal bar, high fibre protein shake does the job. Especially if you have the latter before a long section of road on a full tank.

im off to remove the sensor because I’m scarred I might die if it hits the low 30’s.

If it helps 99 was my high score from Bristol, no idea how to get to 100... prob buy a different car time.

:D

Thanks for the Heads Up Display but the only time Sport has been engaged so far was on the test drive and I find the car fast enough in Eco. When it gets the stage 1 remap in Essex might select it and scare myself a little to remind myself why I bought it but seeing the little Eco light illuminated between the dials makes me feel like Greta Thunberg is sitting on those vast back seats, smiling and giving me a big thumbs up rather than the middle finger. Third tank suggesting 595 miles is possible but hope to reach the MYTHICAL 600.

'I find the car fast enough in Eco'

Not being funny, but why bother with the remap then? That money would get you a few thousand more miles of fuel!

Going to Santa Pod to test the launch control and 340bhp is more fun than 268bhp, simple maths.

Not driven the Superb for 3 days so did the Airport run in wife’s Karoq 1.5TSi petrol SEL manual. Well it’s easier to park in the short stay car park and doesn’t use much fuel.

Just a quick update (1 week until stage 1 remap) had the Superb 1 month now and covered 1,100 trouble free miles and the Long Term maxidot after 95 hours driving is showing average speed 34mph and 34.0mpg. Current third tank of Momentum is suggesting 603 miles but will fill up before heading to Grays in Essex next Tuesday. Some weeks you just want to go really quickly.:hi:

Finally the mpg is coming down to where I expected it to be!  c. 35mpg.

It was only a matter of time before you started enjoying the power!

Good luck with the map & will be interesting to see how the stats add up afterwards!  👍

Dunc69 might be disappointed to see that the  roadworks at either side of my commute seem to be improving my average mpg and range.

That's because no-one would buy a Lotus with a giant vauxhall badge on the front grill. Like driving a Toyota MR2 with a Ferrari badge on the front. Keep having a swing my chin is more resilient than Mr Fury's.

Clocked up 1,300 miles in 34 days and Skoda claim it should average 39.8mpg but it’s only doing this.

Shy you have mis-titled your thread, it should be ‘ How I squeeze every drop out of my car’ Your commute lends itself to reasonable mileage..yes I know it’s pretty good for the winter, wait until your summer Mpg. I am doing a 60 mile drive to Derby this am and if I stick to the speed limits and go with a (hopefully) jam-free flow of traffic, my 245 will do 40+ Mpg. My VRS stage 1 easily did 40-43 Mpg each way to Scotland and back driving normally. All the TSI owners know that under the right conditions, it is an economical engine. Even giving it some in 3rd for some time on back roads, it won’t drop much below 30 Mpg. It’s a good thread, and I am looking forward to some stage 2 accounts of leaving some expensive metal in the dust.

MPG with a few squirts and B road diversion

One of the big differences between a powerful front wheel drive hatch and all the variants that VAG spin off the Golf R drivetrain is that traction is available all the time not just when the road is dry (3 months during summer). Unless you have owned a 4WD and driven quite a few miles in one I can't believe I haven't seen the flashing TC light on the dashboard something which happened very often in the stage 2 Octavia. Pulling quickly out of a T junction or onto a fast moving dual carriageway or across traffic on a large roundabout without traffic lights becomes second nature without any drama. The one aspect I really don't mind about a lighter hot hatch is the horrific axle tramp when I forgot how much power and torque I couldn't put down onto the tarmac. The Vrs245/Golf GTi245 steering is better than the Superb for example less turns more direct however the Superb's steering is also less nervous at speed as a result. There are less things I miss about the Octavia (slightly easier to park) but the Superb has so many things it does better I am glad I swapped late last year. The Superb has an even bigger boot, vast amount of rear leg room, better quality interior, more sound insulation giving quieter motorway cruising. The main point I realise now having experienced both is with hindsight in 2017 I should have bought a nearly new Superb 280 rather than the Octy 245. I do believe the extra gear in the 272 makes it considerably more economical than the older 6 speed in the 280 however, because I drove this gearbox in a 2019 Octy245 with 19" alloys and managed 50mpg on my commute in the 4 days I owned it (don't ask why).

Quick update ahead of the remap tomorrow now spent £209.19 on Tesco Momentum (3 tanks) and the local Tesco garage (4 miles away) is selling it for just £1.289 per litre (Shell garage 2 miles away sell Nitro for £1.429 per litre) so put 56.63 litres in today (total so far 160.67 litres) and maxidot was claiming 39.0mpg for the 495 miles covered on the latest tank yet it worked out at brim to brim 39.73mpg. Remember this is just commuting and I think the roadworks near to my work has reduced my speed along the final bit of dual carriageway from 70mph to 30mph through the cones. I have notices on all 3 fills the maxidot is under estimating my average mpg which is good and now over 1,360 miles covered in 37 days my overall average has climbed to 38.48mpg.

Sorry ive been quiet guys, I’ve been mega busy. Couple of weeks in and absolutely love the car although it’s going back tomorrow for a couple of issues. The main problem is that when I accelerate hard and take the foot off the pedal there is a loud rattle/vibration from around the drivers door when the revs are going down. I also have this annoying noise in the boot as if the boot latch isn’t fully connecting which means every bump I hear a noise.

Apart from that the car is absolutely brilliant. If I am careful with my right foot then it’s economical. Quick question though, when on the motorway do you guys pop it into ACC or do you just drive normally. Interested to hear if one is better than the other for MPG.

I don't usually use ACC except through roadworks. Climate control is always on if anyone was wondering about the excellent economy I'm getting.

Rattle will probably be fuel pipes.

Nice drive down to AmD set off just after 04:00 and arrived before 07:00. Not bad economy either.

My experience with the 280 on long trips across Europe is that ACC is doesn't look as far ahead and isn't as predictive so uses the brakes more when traffic is busier. On a quiet road at constant speed it makes no noticeable difference. As is often the case, fuel economy is more about how much you need to use the brakes that how much you use the throttle. That said ACC makes for a more relaxed drive when you just want to cruise at the limit.

Awesome figures there Shy.  What a lot of extra shove from a relatively small ££ outlay.

Enjoy!!

Dunc I'm 6bhp down on you but 100kg lighter before my dinner. Think I might edge you to 60mph with the advantage of 4WD. Only joking it is bloody quick and nearly as much torque as my stage 2 Vrs245 (around 378lb/ft) at only 200rpm higher.

Fixed your signature for you, that's half the reasons of going for a remap surely? :D

91bhp extra over standard with the bog standard air box and factory air filter. Makes you think why bother changing them as they are cheap to replace.

Didn't want to claim the extra 0.6bhp so went with metric as it's higher than imperial. Some things in the EU are better.
