Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch

Skoda CZ do not make any claims on MPG or litres per 100km.

They just publish WLTP or RDE even RDE2 figures for comparisons.  As do all the other manufacturers.

I bought my car in the UK not the Czech Republic. I quote the old NEDC figures because the later WLTP figures are not representative in my experience unless you drive like you stole it and like collecting points on your licence like an ASBO letter.

@shyVRS245   So you bought your car or you go with with the figures as done on a rolling road and in the Skoda UK websites it said the figures were for comparison.

The figures are going to be there or there about for some drivers, some maybe driving solo without much in the car.

Some will get the figures when the car has every seat with a passenger in them and the boot full.

So the only 'claims'  made by Skoda are the tests were done and the results are what they publish.

As to 115ps, 150 ps, 250 ps or 300ps, what the available maximum ps / Nm torque is for the same size of car, if you are just driving about in the UK at NSL's any of the cars might get similar economy as they are not using all that is available even the least powerful if nearly empty with just a driver.

This is boring beyond belief !

Talking of which, due to current conditions I have switched from mpg to gallons per month.

Same which got me thinking about petrol going stale or water separating from the fuel.

WLTP is more representative of real world figures for the majority. The NEDC is good for comparison relatively (not always though) but to hit those figures, you need 2 things:

1: the manufacturer did not optimise for the test.  Or

2: drive with a virtual hgv speed limit plus and a bomb that will set off under pressure under the accelerator. Tyre pressure at eco setting, driver only car, eco drive mode.

Many in the UK might still have fuel that was delivered to filling stations before the end of March in their vehicles tanks and that petrol is less hygroscopic.

There are still big differences in parts of Scotland and elsewhere, so minus degrees over night and in high teens to twenties day time so possible condensation in their fuel tanks.

PS,

Plenty can drive at over national speed limits for cars and still better 'Official' economy figures.

You only get 'Averages' with high and low figures, then the average is an average.......   Its like, not rocket science, or rocket fuel.

My latest fill up was in March. And that was a top up of fuel probably bought late February...

Trying my best to finish up this tank so I can fill up with fresher petrol. Doing great now at 8km/L consumption which is better than a 4.0 v8 biturbo so happy days.

At the current rate I'll be using last winter's fuel next winter!

Filled up on the 23rd March. Done 50 miles since. Washed it more times than its been out. 🤣.

Currently giving the Superb a 1 week rest as I top up the battery on the wife's Karoq (think it's week 8 for her working from home and no prospect of her Department going back to the office anytime soon) with 3 more days of commuting. Still on for around 550 miles on this tank at an indicated 52mpg average. This in Sport as the Eco setting doesn't make much difference with a manual gearbox as the main savings come from the engine switching from running on 4 cylinders to just 2 under a light cruising load.

He's just made it onto the childrens ignore list with the other juveniles so I don't get pointless posts with nothing to help other users wondering whether to buy a Karoq or Superb.

Keep at it shy. It is good that someone has the patience to do this kind of work for prospective buyers. I don't.

Same to you with the stage 2 mods. I'm curious to see where you end up between 410-430bhp when you can source all the parts and get them fitted, although I'm very happy to be only stage 1. I do miss the Airtec cone filter so I might get that done just for the added noise.

It's just that the thread title is a bit misleading with respect to its content. By "leaving with..." I'd expect to read about a variety of findings, experiences, conclusions that are actually useful. Instead, it's been 22 pages of essentially stating the same thing: That when doing long trips at the speed limit with minimum throttle and preserving the inertia it can achieve high 30s or even 40s. This is the ideal case (only from an economy point of view though 😄)  although not relevant for the typical family carrier tasks, and every other modern car would perform such as impressively (or better) in these conditions, it's the technology of today, not some magic happening inside the Superb in particular or even worse in Shy's car.

But is there anything really new after all those mpg screenshots? At some point I was counting 3-4 consecutive posts without anyone replying or even re-acting to, seemingly desperate to get people's attention. Which, when coupled with a hidden (or not so hidden) "i'm better than you" attitude in some of the replies the only type of attention they get is the "give us a break" replies and related amusing, but pointless debates.

Which is a pity because with the time spent here and frequency of posting he could have actually provided a far more useful and versatile feed-back. But then, everyone has their own reasons for wanting to post on a forum, and they might not be the obvious ones always.

As the car is so new, theres not much else apart from economy to talk about.

Lets face it, we're not going to find out anytime soon how much brake pads are going to cost him are we..... :)

This why I'm keeping the standard Vega alloys and the Bridgestone S001 tyres on until the first service at about 16,000 miles so that I can compare the wear when the Dealer checks the tyres and gives me the report. Then I can put my RS6 alloys and Michelin PS4S tyres on to compare as there is not difference in cost between the two, Can't complain about the wet/dry grip of the S001 factory fitted tyres.

Erm Shy... Audi RS6 replicas is something completely different to "Audi RS6 alloys", just to avoid confusion...  FYI. just one such original alloy costs more than a full set of replicas, for obvious reasons.

How big are those RS6 wheels? 20inch I reckon?

I know 235/40/19 tyres are stupid expensive as a rare size but are 20inch PS4S the same price?

Edit: just did a quick Google. They are only slightly more expensive as 245/40/r20 compared to stock superb r19 size. Not bad.

Yeah, except they aren't RS6 wheels really, but rather RS6 replicas and so they come in 8.5x19.

That's what i meant by confusion just above, no idea why he referred to them as "RS6 alloys" 🙁

For anyone that is confused about my spare set of wheels purchased for my Octavia Vrs245 in 2018 they are replica's with 235/35R19 tyres and are 8.5J x 19" so slightly wider than standard and will sit 12mm lower than the standard wheels due to the shallower side wall height. They can be seen on page 14 and cost £1,450 including the grippy PS4S.

Not being rude but what size tyres are you running now?

If it does lower the car (wheel diameter) by around half an inch, then your speedo will be out by varying amounts at different speeds but luckily in your favour.

If you've got lower than standard rolling radius the car will think it's going more miles than it really is. (Odo and speedo work on ABS sensor data, so number of wheel revolutions of a given wheel radius.)

How many miles does Google maps say your commute is versus how many the car thinks?

Running the standard 8J x 19 alloys since new with standard 235/40R19 tyres. My 245 Octavia was used with 225/40R18, 225/35R19 and 235/35R19 tyres with no issues and I always work out fuel consumption based upon fuel used rather than rely on the maxidot. My commute is 27 miles each way Wino regardless of which wheels/tyres are fitted.

And how many miles by Google?
