Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch

Yeah tried. Still there man☹️

TBH, it might not be the door that's the fault but just the part of the car that resonates at the particular frequency that something else could be vibrating.   Interior rattles/buzzes are a PITA sometimes.

My driver door seems to the source of a vibration on mine at ~2800 RPM.  I stripped the door and applied silent coat and absorber foam (to the outer skin too) as well as securing all harnesses and cabling.  It didn't work.  I then found out about the fuel line issue and believe it to be that as there's nothing else loose in that area and I've even had the B pillar stripped.  I reported it to the dealer in the first 2 of ownership.  They failed to sort it, or actually investigate it because the couldn't' hear the noise, despite me providing a video and also demonstrating the problem (repeatedly) to the warranty manager.  Anyway, I was going to kick up a fuss and ask them to apply the fuel line fix at the cars next service but I will not have the car for much longer.   I've spoken to another dealer who says there's an official TPI for this on 2.0 TSI's but because that particular dealer wasn't investigating my car, he was not able to quote the TPI number. 🙄

Motorway very quiet and getting great economy. Normally expect 550 miles per tank but last 3 commutes have seen 42.4/43.0/43.2mpg so computer predicts nearly 640 mile range.

The Superb will be one year old (well registered in the UK on 29/03/2019) this Sunday when we will be finding how many clocks we have scattered around the house to add 1 hour to them. Giving it a 4 day rest as it has already clocked up 3,377 miles in just 3 months. Took the wife's Karoq which a manual to work and had to keep reminding myself to change gear because it is very quiet and you don't realise you should be one gear higher than the one you are actually in. When I bought her the Karoq exactly 26 months ago including the Metallic Moon White paint with the discount it cost £23,500 OTR. Noticed on Skoda's website recently that the same car (list price before any incentives) now retails at £27,427 which is simply too much. That means the list price has increased £2,400 in just 26 months. The predicted value at 40,000 miles and 4 years was about £11,000 so it would lose £12,500 in that time which is not bad but she wants to keep it until she retires. It has a pleasant 6 speed manual gearbox, decent brakes, peppy performance with 150PS petrol engine and she averages 44mpg. However driving in Sport mode tonight with the climate control set to 21C managed 59mpg despite Skoda's claimed 51mpg combined cycle figure. Officially it emits 126gm/km which is not bad for something that can do 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds and has the aero of a small house. In the last 6 weeks it has covered just 400 miles used 30 litres of petrol and cost me just £6 per week in fuel. Current mileage when I get home in the morning will be 24,022 miles.

So my door rattles are driving me insane. I’ve taken a couple of videos but when I try to upload it says you are only allowed up to 20mb. The vids are only 30 secs long. Anyone know a way around this as I’d like some opinions on the rattles. Thanks guys

Day 96 update still no problems having clocked up 2,000 miles since the remap and 3,500 miles since I bought the car last December. Getting great mpg at the moment in the last 24 hours managed a 42.5 and tonight 44.4mpg commute. Will update next on Sunday when I need some fuel and work out overall mpg and figures for the last 2,000 miles since the remap. Stay safe everyone.

My woes continue. I went out to wash my car and on the roof the paint has split with loads of rust. Not happy.

I will need to get it booked in for a respray. Thoughts

Yikes! How long is the split? Which side of the roof is it on?

Never ever seen anything like that...

I would want to reject a car like that, but has it past 6 months?

I suspect it may be connected to your rattling door problem, looking at the body parts diagrams on 7zap.com there are several "roof reinforcements" that tie the side panels to the roof and side to side. My suspicion is one or more of these are not properly welded allowing roof to side movement.

Simply respraying may not fix the underlying problem and it could come back later, out of warranty.....

So I bought the car from Skoda in January. It was the managers cat I believe. I wonder if I can reject it?

its quite a long split easy 7 inches. It’s on the drivers side. It was pure luck that I seen it.

See my previous edited post re roof reinforcements. They need to remove the roof lining, a and b pillar trim  and check everything is welded as it should be before any remedial work is undertaken.

And Skoda give you a written full 12 year warranty on this repair.

If you bought it Jan 2020, under UK law I would think you can reject it. Write to the dealer your bought it from enclosing the picture, copy to Skoda UK customer services (see website Covid-19 arrangements for address/procedure).

Get a written acknowledgement.

What happens if I can and do reject the car. Does the garage need to find me a replacement car or do I just hand back?

i emailed the dealer earlier today with the photo, should I email Skoda also?

Sounds like quite a big repair job and one where I think you are right I may reject the car. Ffs

With something as serious as this (imo) you should also write to Skoda and state your intention to reject. They should advise you of your rights and the procedure.

I think they will refund you less a deduction for use of car in 3 months. Although the dealer may offer a replacement. You need to talk to them. After you have written and they received/acknowledged your email.

Ok I have emailed them with an explanation of the problem. Hopefully they get back to me.

thanks for the advice mate

On a lighter note, my 280 Sportline is averaging 3 weeks / gallon...

Day 101 update 557 miles, 62.45 litres or 40.54mpg due to little traffic over the last 2 weeks. Over 3,649 miles total cost of fuel £540.40 or 434.14 litres giving overall average of 38.21mpg. Since the remap 2 months ago over 2,289 miles 273.47 litres (60.16 gallons) at an average of 38.05mpg.

You still enjoying the power Shy, are you getting used to it now and thinking about even more!!?

Yes enjoying the way it gets off the line like all 4WD cars and surprised and still shocked when you see the numbers on the digital speedo. Lack of traffic on my commute means that day/night shift are taking an identical 37 minutes so my average speed (now not getting held up at traffic lights or congestion) is between 42/43mph whereas before the lockdown it was 37/39mph. So glad I went 4WD and the larger size fuel tank over the Vrs means I don't start sweating as I approach 400 miles. Hope all your family are staying safe during this worrying time for everyone?

Glad you are still having fun!!

Yep, we are well so far, thankfully. Hope likewise with you.

Cheers.

Just a general observation from Auto Express Driver Power survey released this week seems to suggest older Skoda's are better built and more reliable (Issue 1,621). The Octavia was launched in 2013 and owners report that just 8.2% of cars have developed faults. The Superb was launched in 2015 and owners reported 13.2% of cars were faulty. The Kodiaq launched in 2016 has 19.3% reported faults and finally the Karoq launched in 2018 has the highest number of reported faults with 31.7% of owners expressing concern (our own 2018 Karoq has had 2 different faults fixed under warranty sadly). They finished in the following positions in the top 75 in the survey.

Octavia No.34.  Karoq No.15.  Superb No. 10.  Kodiaq No. 6.

Kia Sorento (my brother bought one when he retired last year) No. 1.
