the truth about electric cars
Buyers market for those wanting an efficient diesel for longer distance trips, towing etc etc. even if it does get to £3 a litre. £13.50 a gallon. You pays your money and do what you need to do in whatever suits you.

Turn off electric range in Navigation
Hi Can anybody tell me if it is possible to turn off the annoying light/dark shade indication in the navigation system display for the remaining electric range? ON a PHEV it seems pointless. Wilson

Has anyone else found the new Driver Monitoring System on the Mk4 Superb to be overly sensitive?
It been a while…..but. After a few tests, it does seem that 10to and 10 past generates less “take control” notifications. I have moved my seat 2 clicks forward in the hope that on my next 80+ miles trip I’ll get few, hopefully no notifications to take control 🤞

the truth about electric cars
That is just what they want to try and convince everyone to believe; it's all BS really. All they will do with the trade-in is to sell it on quickly to a second hand dealer in order to try to convince the next punter looking to buy new that only EV models are available with the vague hope of hitting their sales quota and avoiding any fines coming along for missing it.

Noisy door - creak hunt diary... 69 plate
Here we go again! Colder weather always brings the creaks and rattles back to my Kodiaq and the front passenger door was making a RACKET from somewhere in the top centre , no amount of pushing by passengers could stop it. This is the same creaky rattle that I started this thread for... This time... I think I've got it Took card off, had a good look at the existing dampening and muffling I'd added and could see nothing left to make the noise. A quick drive minus the card proved the rattle is either in the card or because the card is up against the metal door. Attention turned to the point where the door card is bolted to the outer door. Thats almost exactly where the noise was from, a quick test showed the bolt isn't a very tight fit in the hole, and the part of the card abutting the metal door is quite hard plastic. So I added a square inch or so of that fluffy self amalgamating tape you can add to cables, over the bolt hole. Cut a cross over the hole with a knife, and the bolt now isn't rattly, it also means the friction between the door and card is reduced. I did both bolt holes in same way, put the card back on... and... SILENCE!!!! Very pleased, have a similar but quieter noise in the drivers door but no time today for that. Also now I can better isolate the effing glovebox rattle which still hasn't gone on cold days.

the truth about electric cars
My lad has been put on standby for busy time, he works for one of the super large Fast Parcel Operators. Always the tough choices as to air or sea freight. About half of air freight travel on the regular air passenger flights and the other half on dedicated freight aircraft. For the solar invertors air freight would be fine but not for 20 Kg solar panels which are circa 1.8m tall. I have been looking at the flexible solar panels which seem to weigh about a quarter what rigid solar panels. Not sure of any big disadvantages with them. Batteries, ie so called solar batteries wwth large Lithium batteries present their own challenges as Dangerous Goods. I think Octopus are talking about 7 or 8 weeks delay if a balcony solar kit now but since we are rapidly moving in to the darker tine of year I think it is price that is key. I would like to see the 460w system down below £400 which i would hope it will be and therefore payback in two spring/summer/autumn period rather than 3. Shipping both at sea and inkand UK is quite expensive. I think kne xan still get sub £2k shipping of a 40 ft container if one is moving bulk ie several containers at a time. UK shipping kf these giant near 2m long solar panels when, unless ordering many at a time, the shipping is almost as expensive as the panels. Free shipping if one orders say 16 or more panels ie couple of thousand quid worth, ouch. Maybe a family and friends order. Do like some are doing and replacing fencing panels with solar panels, good for the morning or evening sun in lare autumn, winter and early spring with their tangential aspect to the ground.

Skoda Karoq 1.0tsi Hard Clutch pedal after clutch master cylinder change
A local garage recently changed the master clutch cylinder on my 2018 Skoda Karoq 1.0 Tsi. but the car was returned to me with a HARD CLUTCH PEDAL. The clutch was light before the change and the master cylinder was replaced due to the clutch position sensor showing fault codes. The slave cylinder was also changed a couple of weeks later with a Dot4 flush in the hope that it might improve the harshness of the clutch pedal. Now I been left high & dry with the same problem. ANY IDEARS WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

the truth about electric cars
Selling out is easy to do if your imports from China are being delayed by disruption in manufacturing or transportation by sea or at ports. So much Halloween plastic crap including lights to get into the warehouse including lights, then the Christmas trash / lights, fireworks etc etc. the money making stuff.

Long charging cable
I never call granny charger, but yes the 13amp cable is a granny cable type 2. The charger is onboard the car not the cable. 3.6 kW sometimes. Wall box a different kettle of fish. 22 kW type 2 cable in long lengths are quite a heavy bulky thing. My EV is charging at a public charger just now using one. I will be just over 3 hours to get 20 kWh of electricity. Costing £10.50.

Interesting. Glad it was only a small period of 11 years-worth of production.

the truth about electric cars
I am going to hold off on getting home solar and wait to see if there are some bargains on Black Friday - Cyber Monday and the aftermath of those events as that is when I have ended to get the best prices on home batteries, solar panels etc. Even if I buy then ie next month I may wait until late Jan or Feb to install when the sun meaningfully returns to the Northern Hemisphere. With some help, rather than ground or wall mount, I will probably pop the panels on to one of my tracking array. As Martin Lewis says it is amazing how many people are on the variable, PANTS, tariff. Many people seem indifferent or just not getting it that changing tariff or acquiring this increasingly cheap tech can pay for itself in 2 to 3 years. About half the UK seems to be very difficult to help even for their own good, ever thus. Tech Radar reports of Octopus .................... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octopus Energy says its plug-in solar kits have sold out again — but 'more are on the way' to save you up to £150 a year on bills News By Mark Wilson Published 2 days ago The sun continues to shine on plug-in solar... Octopus Energy says it's sold out of its plug-in solar kits for a second time. More stock of the now-legal kits is apparently "on the way" Meanwhile, manufacturer UKSOL says more retailers are stocking its kits The threat of a worsening energy crisis is pushing many of us towards tech that could help cut our growing bills — and Octopus Energy says it's now sold out of its plug-in solar kits for a second time in less than four weeks, after being "blown away" by the demand. Plug-in solar kits, which can be installed without professional help, were legalised in the UK just over a month ago. Octopus Energy has been offering two DIY kits to customers, with a choice or one 460W panel (£450) or two panels (£650, including VAT and curb-side delivery). The energy giant says that "thousands of households" have been trying to get one of its plug-in kits, but supply hasn't been able to meet demand. Octopus says the first 500 kits were gone in two weeks, and it's just sold out another batch. https://www.techradar.com/home/energy-saving/octopus-energy-says-its-plug-in-solar-kits-have-sold-out-again-but-more-are-on-the-way-to-save-you-up-to-gbp150-a-year-on-bills

Skoda Karoq 1.5 DSG gearbox
2012 in other world regions they had to put a 100,000 mile warranty on them. In NZ all DQ 200,s got a new MCU not just a software update and mineral oil like in other regions, including the EU / Europe if the owner found out there was a service campaign. In Australia there was a 5 year warranty and now I think 7 years. But then in Australia and North America and some other regions it is an 8 speed torque converter auto fitted to the excellent 1.4 TSI,s. Where the World Wide Harmonised cheat testing is not necessary for the emissions. VW no faith in their no servicing product to give the DQ200 DSG a 8 year warranty globally.

Skoda Karoq 1.5 DSG gearbox
Further to my comment about my mate's 2019 VW T-Roc 1.5TSI 150PS DSG issue, his VAG Indie workshop now have his car, read the codes etc and consider that it is an gearbox oil pump related issue - £4500, repairing the DSG will get carried out by a gearbox specialist. So, roughly 67,000miles in 7.5 years and no gearbox oil or fluid changes carried out which is in line with advice by the manufacturer, could this have been avoided if the oil and fluid were changed at maybe the 5 year, 50,000miles point - who knows. I think that he was told that this DQ200 was improved in 2022 - I'm guessing to improve reliability, though cold comfort to folk like him. The car still drives - if that is relevant!

Exhausts
@tombee sorry, don't know details, i left my car in service, which specialized on Oldtimers, for one day i had idea connect them somehow on the bumper, as they are designed touchless, but service decided veld directly. few months ago met my previous car in traffic, exhausts ends were still on place, 8+ years since install

the truth about electric cars
Skoda JS (industry) are building parts for Rolls Royce for these Small nuclear modular facilities that are seemingly coming and all ready creating so many jobs. Well that will be in the legal, media and planning side not digger and dumper drivers yet. Energy required for AI data centres not electric (heating ) for those in social housing, high rise flats etc without balcony solar or battery storage or a car even. Those to that can get on a bus for £2 while the bus company might get anything from a £1 to who knows how much to compensate them for the full fare. While car dealer sellers / manufacturers get £thoudsands of CAR GRANT money.

That is a Nice Mk3 Estate, in a great colour. It seems to be quite a well spec'd car too? Any more recent updates at all? Thankfully it looks it's in capable hands and being looked after/pampered very well 😄
