single door opening/ central locking, when I turn off the car and get out
I haven't encountered that - IFF I (remember to) press the central locking button (once) it will unlock everything. My (ab)use case is, for whatever reason, at some point I press the central locking button to lock all doors, then when I park the car I forget all about it, stop the car, turn it off, DON'T press the central locking button again, open my driver's door (which will open no matter what the lock condition), and look like an idiot tugging on another door handle (which is still locked). (The boot will [almost] always open for me, because I [almost] always have the keyfob physically on my person, and the proximity of the keyfob will allow the boot to open no matter the car locking status). Is there any way to get the central locking system to give me an indication inside the cabin once I've parked - especially, right after I've turned off the ignition - before I get out (maybe as I open the 'locked' driver's door), to remind me that I've still got all of the other doors locked?

Jaguar, will it survive?
The more I read about this car the more fascinating I find it. There are some very serious design choices and solutions in its outlandish body. But Jaguar has been here before... ... and although it is really easy to say "that looks so much better it's beautiful", it had a bit of a troubled design past itself. Jaguar has tried making attractive cars many times in even recent history (I include my F Type in this), but they don't sell! The 01 will either become a design classic, perhaps in the way the early Bangle BMWs have become, or it will be considered something akin to the recent Ronaldo bust. Time will tell, I guess.

single door opening/ central locking, when I turn off the car and get out
My octavia is the same one press and drivers door unlocks but needs two sometimes three to unlock other doors. Total pain. Keeps telling me to check deadlocks?? Read somewhere something to do with security. I get double press for boot security but why passenger doors?? Must be a way of disabling it. Alasdair

single door opening/ central locking, when I turn off the car and get out
I want the security aspect of "If I had the doors all centrally locked, and I turn off the car and open my door then the other doors DON'T unlock", but I often find myself turning off the car, opening my door, getting out, stepping to the passenger door behind me, and yanking on a locked handle to no effect 🤦 What would be useful would be if the central locking light (on the button console just in front of the shifter) would stay lit for a few minutes when the doors are centrally locked and I've turned off the car and opened my driver's door, to give a visual indication of "You doofus, if you get out and try to open the rear door now, without whacking the central locking button first, you'll just look like a stupid monkey banging on technology you don't understand!". 😅 Is there a coding option to have the centre console central locking button light stay on for a while after turning off the car/ opening the driver's door, or, really, any other way to get an indication that "the other doors are still locked"? thanks,

Skoda Fabia MK3 2019 CarPlay shows only sometimes.
Hi! I have a 2019 Skoda Fabia MK3 and I’m having a problem with Apple CarPlay. CarPlay only appears occasionally. I’ve managed to use it a few times, but most of the time it’s simply not available. When I connect my iPhone, I can only see MirrorLink and Android Auto – there is no option for Apple CarPlay. Originally, my infotainment system was running software version 8740. After reading a few posts here, I managed to update it to 8755, hoping this would solve the problem. Unfortunately, the issue is still there. I switched USB cables too. CarPlay ver. 210.81 if that's matter. Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there anything I need to enable or change in the infotainment settings, or perhaps another software update that could fix this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

EPC LIGHT 5.5K REVS
Might also be a good idea to ask in the Octavia 3 forum https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/235-skoda-octavia-mk3-2013-2020/

EPC LIGHT 5.5K REVS
Presuming the switching between lobes is achieved by solenoids (as on an ACT engine) they would be visible on top of the engine after removing the plastic cover? If they are present then the fault code suggests either a wiring problem, or a failed solenoid. Time to investigate with the plastic cover off I reckon.

Jaguar, will it survive?
In comparison the Jag looks like all four sides of it have been driven into a wall at speed... Just shows how bad the Jag design language is IMHO

Random jerking, like a misfire. No warning lights, no diagnostic code, throttle position 89%. Help!!
I wanted to close the topic after a good few miles and time, hopefully someone might find this useful - I believe my car is fixed by replacing the crankshaft sensor. I got this Bosch one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235945871878 Fiddly but pretty straightforward to DIY replace too. Thanks again to this forum, and the people on this thread 👍

Clutch Failure
I would love an automatic, but my wife doesn't like them. However, if her left leg pain gets any worse, there may be no choice! Wouldn't bother me.

Octavia Scout Estate Larger Spoiler?
Hi. I'm currently looking to buy a Scout and have viewed a couple of cars so far. One of them had a larger roof spoiler, which I think makes the car look a bit more sporty. Does anyone know if the Scout came with a choice of spoilers, or if this one looks to be fitted aftermarket? Thank you Thank you.

2.0 Petrol Estate vs 1.5PHEV Estate?
I'll close this discussion after one reply that, whilst appreciated greatly, didn't answer the comparison question. I had assumed someone here must have tried both variants but apparently not.... My brother in law has decided, of his own free will, to try a 2.0 petrol. I hope he doesn't regret it.

Chime after locking and unlocking car
Meant to add it may be a failing ignition switch. Did read that there is a plastic bit/switch that lets the car know if theres a key in ignition. If it sticks the car assumes theres still a key in so doesnt shut down properly and beeps to warn you about locking key in car. Read it on a VW forum so may not be aplicable to mk2 octavia Maybe someone on here could help. They said try a squirt of wd40 into ignition to see if it frees up plastic bit, Alasdair

Chime after locking and unlocking car
Cant hear chime sound on clip but it may be the siren battery thats failing and car is continuosuly trying to charge it hence drain over 3-4 days. You could pull the fuse for the siren back up battery. From memory think its fuse 35 in side of dash and see if it makes a difference. Might be worth a scan with vcds to see if it pulls up any random faults. Alasdair

Would the 1.5 150hp Scala be a good highway cruiser?
Need a car that I will drive 5000 miles/8000 km per year in Eastern Europe 80% of the time on highways at speeds 75mph/110-120kmph. Now the Octavia is great but on the few occasions (2-3 times per month) when I will go to the city center the extra 30cm of length will be harder to park also it will probably have 1-1.5L more fuel consumption as if I go for the Octavia I am going for the 2.0L as I want a ~8 sec to 100kmph for easier highway joining which the 1.0L Octavia (I can get a 2017 one for only 11k euros) won't do. The thing is for my budget of 15-16k euros I can get a 1.5TSI 2022 Scala at 100,000km under warranty until mid 27 or a 2018 Octavia 2.0 diesel at 150,000km out of warranty and I prefer the newer car (Scala) . For that amount I can get a 21 Corolla hatch under warranty until 2031 with 1.8/140hp, but I am afraid it will be not as quiet, planted or as stable as the Scala and it is at 150,000km. So I have made up my mind at 90% the question is is the 15-16k for the Scala overpriced? Also is my choice of petrol good I know diesel is more fuel efficient on the highway but my 2-3 time of months of driving in the city might be clustered in the beginning of that month and I might leave the car not driven for 2-3 weeks at a time.

Begrudgingly Goodbye!
I've appreciated the guides, advice and straight up kindness from members here during my time on the forum (mostly lurking!). My Mk1. Octavia TDI and the Fabia were amazing cars! I was quite let down by the mk2 VRS but still kept an open mind moving forwards. (It still had it's own charm when I wasn't busy fixing something!) Unfortunately someone has hit my wife's little Fabia which has now been written off. Replaced with.... a mk1 Nissan leaf! (I did try and get her to go for a mk3 VRS but the budget just couldn't stretch!). My Octavia will be gone by the end of the month as well as a gearbox/differential bearing is acting up and I couldn't justify the cost. I loved the Enyaq but it just wasn't financially sensible for us so I've settled on an old zafira tourer shudder (the way I feel AND the clutch before you ask!). I feel a little bit sad to be moving away from Skoda.. but hope to return one day when I can eventually afford (and am allowed to keep!) an Enyaq or some other form of skoda EV.

Jaguar, will it survive?
Generally I don't like matte paint finishes at all, but for some reason the 01 looks great in them, at least imho. BOLD BOLD BOLD is the way to go with this car. Probably some sort of Rappers wet dream, but the car suits bling.

Auto Start-Stop not functioning
The first battery scan on this car was only a few days after purchase, April 2026 and its internal resistance was even then 6.8mOhms, it is was 7.4mOhms on 7th Oct (2026), 6 months later. My almost 8 year old January 2019 Polo wasn't scanned until Sept 2021, (2yrs 8 months old) and its resistance was 6.6mOhms, it was 7.6mOhms in June 2026 (7 yrs 5 months old). Both have 59AH EFB Batteries.

Glow Plug Control Module J179
For reference, the part reported as working above is Metzger 0884010. The other number discussed is Bosch 0 281 003 085. Those links help identify the controllers; the large number printed on the casing is not enough on its own to choose one. For another car with P0684 or P064C, check the exact code description, controller power, earth and connector before ordering. Also match the engine and OE reference. A controller fault should not automatically turn into replacing the pressure-sensing glow plug. Metzger 0884010 reference Bosch 0 281 003 085 reference
