Is it not based on drive mode? Just setup what you want against the Custom drive mode. That's what I did on my 2018 model

Unleashing the Power of OBDeleven: A Must-Have for SKODA Owners
Jay, To be honest, I can’t recommend one from the other. You’re correct in that it’s an AI (I asked to different models and both said the same thing in a slightly different manner). I have in the past had uses of VCDS, that did the very limited stuff easily (wind back to pads for brake pad changes and code for a new battery, day light changes) but that’s just the simple stuff. It might be that ODB 3 is more than you need. I can’t advise either way to be honest.

Unexpected Consequences
As i mentioned in a previous thread, I've just taken ownership of an Octavia 2025 estate, so very much still getting to grips with the head unit functionality. Anyway, I downloaded the MySkoda app onto the mobile and proceeded to link the car details as instructed. Everything seemed to load fine, naming myself as primary user but I have noticed some unexpected changes which I'd like to discuss if I may? Can now see closed roads and slow traffic on the map. Graphics could be better but this increased functionality makes sense. I'm now required to enter a 4 digit pin before I can use the vehicle. I can see this being an extra security feature, but can I switch this off? The Climate settings seem now to have a default of blowing air at setting 4. I've changed this on several occasions to setting 1, but it reverts to 4 on start-up. Is it possible to change this default? Many thanks in anticipation of your replies

Columbus Map Update 2026-2027 (MIB2 HIGH)
Many thanks guys, especially MartiniB. Tell, I had a look at the year and it says it is 2026/2027, although the major build is 2026. I have a Škoda Columbus so the FeCs should be ok for me. It’s 2230 here (New Zealand) and it’s taken a few hours to download and unzip to an SD card so I will load the maps tomorrow, but the files look ok, despite the file name, so I don’t foresee any problems. Thanks again.

Recommendations for timing chain kit 1.2 htp 55plate
Hi I am thinking on changing timing chain on my sons Mk1 1.2htp. Its done 78k and want to be on the safer side. No rattle as far as I can tell. Looking for recommendations on make of aftermarket timing chain kits. I normally use Gates belts but not sure re chain etc. Plus I believe there is a chain driven oil pump and wonder if I should change that while I am at it. Alasdair

the truth about electric cars
I liked this Alpine with just some blue trim. Dogs out for whatever before trip. Anyway. An early start and only 6 degrees C, lots of rain and today that ment 20-30 miles less range than over the past weeks of higher temps. Meant charging to add a few miles before my destination just 5 miles further on. New chargers going in hopefully.

Columbus Map Update 2026-2027 (MIB2 HIGH)
I've taken a look at the content.pkg for the ROW maps. For this instance I just looked the the AUS and ASIA files for the ROW maps. But it should be the same for every other continent/country of those ROW maps. The following FECs/FSCs are contained in the AUS and ASIA files: 023D003E (Audi), 083D0002 (Skoda), 063D003E (Porsche), 033D003E (Bentley). So no VW or Seat FSCs/FECs contained. This means the system will need to be patched by writing the Audi, Skoda, Porsche or Bentley ROW FECs in order to make them work on VW or Seat. For those curious in the future: You'll find the FECs/FSCs "needed" within the following path: Mib2 -> NavDB -> common_EU (as an example) -> 0 -> default -> content.pkg . You can open this file using Notepad, Notepad++ or any other software that lets you look at any file's text. For the ROW maps there are several common_xxx folders. Like common_aus, common_asia ... and so on. The rest is just looking at the contained FSCs and comparing them to the Map region list for MHI2 Map FECs you can find widely available online. They won't match 1:1, but if an FSC starts with 083xxxxx, then you know those are for Skoda.

the truth about electric cars
Yes i reckon many countries are niw seeing the conflict that Iran and USA is convince many countries to move away from reliance from fossil fuels and towards rebewables. Pakistan gas just refused its scheduled LNG shipment witb its exhorbatant price tag. Like many countries it has imported as much solar equipment, and batteries, that in can and now solar, batteries and associated electrical equipment keep the lights on, keep medicines cool, keep irrigation pumps running. Truml and Iran have accelerated the demise of the use of fossil fiels. Electric tuk tuks, electric motorbikes are squeezing out petrol vehicles as the liquid gold is beyond many people's ability to buy it. Even in the US solar and wind, with batteries, is becoming the dominant electrical generation despite Trump's best efforts to slow the rebewables taje over. Trump has been a catalyst for accelerator change ratgef than a conservative of the oil and gas industry. Nice one.

Skoda Connect
It happened again! Luckily a direct email to [email protected] seems to have done the trick this time. Looks like they were able to do something their end to resolve it remotely. A little bit frustrating if this is going to happen frequently. But if anyone else comes across this issue, try emailing the team above first.

Columbus Map Update 2026-2027 (MIB2 HIGH)
Do we know whether these need the Skoda / Audi navigation FeCs added. Ie. Like 450 where it was targeted at specific brands for whatever reason. Europe we can't check this by installation easily. @viper42 may know. I never found the package file that gave the game away in 470 that it was universal. There are a few first lines in the metafile which do say which brands... Will look when up. Could be extra work for some RoW Seat / Cupra folk to get it working otherwise in RoW same as we did for 450. Think I can see what you mean by the file name... started to download. Will have a look. Is it really 2026-27 or 2027... two digits missing off. Have a look at the title inside to throw lights on that and the meta file on target. Await Vipers examination of the package for the FeCs that which I did not find for looking before. (English expression... for cant find it)

exterior lighting showing on info screen
I saw that too but my SEL Edition doesn't show any lights, only service related items. A cursory look at the menus didn't show any obvious way to turn it on. But given how poor the menu structure is & the lack of documentation, it could be hiding anywhere. @Berisford reported seeing it in October '24 on what I believe was a '24 SEL & @pinkpanther confirmed it on a '23 SEL.

Wheel commonality?
Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate that at some point I'll have to replace the tyre but that's cheaper than a whole new wheel at least. The tyre is actually in pretty good condition; it's been out of its dry UV light free underfloor boot space for about three seperate days over the last ten years so looks quite new, but yes, the rubber will have degraded a little... but I'll keep an eye on it and keep to the reduced speed (50) when it's in use (hopefully rarely) Thanks again.

3 of these passed low over me at about 5pm yesterday. Landing approach, a few minutes apart. Apologies for offtopicness. I'm sure these wars will be helping countries to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. There, I feel better now.

Rust around fuel filler door
The T&c,s of the warranty on paint 3 years or corrosion 12 years does not say anything on annual, bi-annual or periodic inspections required. But Skoda Servicing details 'body inspections' as part of servicing and Skoda / VW UK knows exactly which Dealerships employees are not carrying out body inspections while doing oil and inspection services or extended scope or minor and major services as they were up to 2019/ 20. Techs / fitters sign off a service, workshop managers or service managers and dealer principals know if there dealerships do Body Inspections during a service.
-
Which Octavia Scout would you choose?
@cwt did you lift the bonnet and check that the oil filler cap was on? Had you checked the oil level and coolant level when collecting car and before leaving with it. Maybe just the drain plug not renewed or washer when serviced or plug cross threaded.
