  1. Seems that there was zero post production AND pre-delivery inspection. I would take it back immediately. God knows how many other issues it has under the bonnet... Good luck to you.
  2. I was finally able to collect it ,I ordered in March and Covid-19 delayed my pick up by about a month which was pretty frustrating. I went for the 2.0 TSI 272 and a few options. I have to say I absolutely love this car, it is such a pleasure to drive. I haven't owned a car for about 10 years as I was living in London. The last car I owned was a 1.0L Seat Arosa 😂 Excuse my pad parking!
  3. Employees at that Dealership need training or retraining or actually the boot. That will be the person that accepted the car off the transporter, the technician or fitter that did the PDI, the person that did the polishing for the handover, the salesperson and the muppet that told the OP 'this is how it is'. It is how it is, actually terrible. Best find out if they are saying 'As left the factory', or 'as is after transit damage repair carried out'.

  5. Mk2 Octy vRS PFL/FL I am a race blue metallic fan and anthracite as a close second, never liked Rallye Green all that much on them, didn't suit the very flat sided shape to me. Mk3 specifically in combi I really do like the Rallye Green a lot.
  6. So ... I had the firmware updated a month or so ago. I've only just started driving it again after being furloughed but it feels a lot smoother. I've not noticed anything detrimental so far and the MPG doesn't seem to have been affected. Fingers crossed. I've done maybe 600-700 miles now and no issues. Still a little jerky when cold but nowhere near as bad. Oh and on the way home from work today ......
  7. Just bought a 2009 fabia 1.9 tdi sport for £2000 , think it’s a good buy at that price , anything I need to look out for/worry about? I’ve read a few horror stories re con rods breaking free through the block but it’s only certain engine codes , mine is a BSW code , am I doomed or ok? Any advice would be much appreciated.
  8. I'd take on board the battery health seriously, maybe even get it checked somewhere as well as making sure that the "not charging" light is on when the key is moved to the "on" position, then goes out as soon as the car starts.
  9. That’s interesting, thought you lost a stop regardless with a converter. I struggle with the 100-400 when snapping the rugby in fading winter light, otherwise it’s good for Motorsport, panning at slow shutter speed mostly, though I prefer the 70-200 if I can get away with shorter reach. Thankfully it didn’t cost me too much to upgrade, MPB are good and new 5D4 was a grey import. R5 looks good, nice spec too! Probably big price. Might go mirrorless one day, though want to grow into and get the most out of the 5D first. Not keen on changing lenses as well, not sure how well the mirrorless work with the EF system. As you Amanda, COVID came along and messed up my life plan figuratively speaking that is.. I’ve Just retired at 55 and looking to move, so not keen on spending too many penny’s, might have to look to returning to work while the world sorts itself out. All the best with getting through this. I’ll finish with another shot from Hastings..
  10. The 1.5 TSI will tow your van just fine. I have the 1.4 TSI 150PS manual 4x4 Scout and it tows our 1,374kg (MTPLM) Bailey really well... I've found the odd down change is required to maintain 60mph on the motorway on very steep inclines but with your DSG gearbox you'll barely notice. One piece of advice I can give you, go for the genuine Skoda tow bar. It integrates into the cars electrical systems better than any aftermarket option. I see you're in Cumbria? Have a drive over to Leeds and get Chris Farthing to fit the factory fitted electrically retractable Skoda tow bar for approx. £800. A few hundred pounds more than a good quality aftermarket tow bar but well worth it.... If you get Chris to fit the reverse camera at the same time (I'm booked in on Saturday) then you get this view on the infotainment screen when hitching up, an absolute must if you don't have someone to guide you back onto the hitch... I would imagine if you had both done at the same time you'd be looking less than £1,000 due the potential time savings?
  11. Nope. Superb mk3 uses electronic handbrake in any spec.
  12. Certainly a surprise unless Renault have promised to make a car so he can try another crack at the Indy 500 (I'm joking). He is partial to a magic trick so he maybe able to pull a rabbit out of the new FIA rules or simply get his new team mate to crash into all his rivals AKA Nelson Piquet Jnr gate.
  13. Since when did a farty noise ever get described as a whine. I don't get any farty noise. Sure there is lots of background noise and a general rumble. That's due to the amplification so the actual engine sound can be heard with my limited recording equipment. You can clearly hear the car accelerating and there is a distinct whirr / whine at the points I mentioned . If that's normal gearbox or turbo noise then great. All other noises, Roland or farty pants included are just unwanted sound recording defects. As are the click of the indicators and the occasional creak when the steering wheel moves.....
  14. Hmm, not sure they checked the fluid. Reckon I'll get the spanners out myself and have a look. The battery has been a bit flaky too, thanks for the heads up 👍😁

  16. ...Have you also checked (Or had them check) The fluid level? Often gets overlooked as you need to remove the battery on most variants, to get to the pump cover and check the level. Additionally, these cars are quite prone to having faults develop if the battery is weak so be sure to have a healthy, well charged strong unit.
  17. Mine is same. Less jerking and kangarooing but not by much, cold and hot. It's a bit crap really, never had a car that needed the concentration of a brain surgeon to drive smoothly in traffic. It feels like the flywheel is the wrong size and weight for the engine. After 6 Skoda's, all of which have been problematic in one way or another, it'll be time to say goodbye at the end of this company car lease. The 13 year old Toyota on my driveway that has had 2 faults from new is leading me towards a Corolla estate/Tourer (whatever it is called). I don't like it as much as the Octavia but at least it should work properly.

I had a similar rattle on occasion and had checked a number of things. Having read this I dropped the seats today without anything in the boot and the car was silent. Thanks for your input, it pays to read through these posts. Will put some tape on the hooks later. Thanks again👍
  20. @Rustynuts might be worth dropping an ad in the classifieds, then link to it.
  21. overall safer, maybe............... until impatience kicks in.
  22. Quite an upgrade from the Arosa. I drove one as a courtesy car once and it was very basic transport in a shocking orange colour so people could point at you and giggle/smile. Welcome to the forum fellow 272 Pilot.

  24. Ah, so reformatting with a smaller cluster size make better use of the card space and does not affect the CID on the card - champion
  25. Hi all, hope all is well, My name is Kieran Thomson and I just recently joined as I have bought a nice 1.2 Skoda Fabia HTP, its my first car and I'm interested in doing a bit of work on it to bring it up to modern standards.
  26. I just hate unnecessary plastic on cars lol. Really random beef to have, but I guess you're right. Protection from dopes in car parks and alike
  27. Do you have a link to the exhaust tips?? did they bolt on or did you get them welded?? Looks great

many thanks all of you guys. I've got how to read those numbers - thanks Wino. So, right now I started from beginning as planned. Will keep you updated.
  29. If it was the one from Chico's, Plymouth, Autotrader says it was a great price. Higher then average miles but a good deal. I am sure you will get feedback regarding the engine etc. Be aware, many Skoda (VW branded cars) Are very unhappy with incorrect spec oil and do not go over the oil change schedule. Generally, the Fabia is a great little car.
  30. Also tell them you will be rejecting it should they not resolve the obvious faults, also fire off an email or phone Skoda UK. Hope that helps
  31. You'd be happy with an Octavia. I got my Mk2 VRS just a little before the birth of my first and it swallowed everything we threw at it. The volume of crap you will want to carry around will be staggering to start with and drop off fast after the first year. For a while you'll wish you drove a transit van, but not long. I managed a large silver cross pram and a mass of other stuff in a VRS hatch I'm not sure it would have all gone in a smaller car even a Golf. Longer term an estate would make more sense, if you can get something with fittings for roof boxes or bike racks you probably apreciate the option when you need it.
  32. Go for it you won't be disappointed !

  34. It is a while since I last tried to adjust the centre headrest but I remember concluding at the time that ski portal would severely restrict the length of the headrest legs, compared to the normal rear seats. Three adults in the back is practical for short trips but I would not recommend it for any real distance purely because of the centre headrest. In terms of seat width then @Alex-W is right of course in that comfort for three it is relative to their combined "width" but the Octavia/Golf does sacrifice a fair bit of available passenger width for side impact safety. Note the distance from the seat edge to beyond the sill when either front or rear door is open. I'm reminded of that each time I watch elderly (infirm) relatives struggle to access or leave the car.
  35. Typical cyclist give me everything, I don’t want to pay for anything, I’ll never get out of your way on a footpath, never say thanks if you let me go first and wave v signs if I try to point out that your about to hit a pothole. Cyclists need to comprehend nothing comes for free, get some manners and adopt some road sense, stop leaving gates open on farm tracks, realise red lights apply to you to and stop going the wrong way up one way streets. Of course you never do that. Because your perfect, but I’ve rarely seen any of the perfect lot, just the nutters. ps yes I have had enough of the Lycra nutters today forcing me off footpaths. Plus the smell of the cyclist guy that fell in a pile of horse poop today was certainly polluting 😊
  36. I couldn’t afford the spec I wanted in a 280 which was a shame, but tbh I would have probably wrapped a 280 round a tree by now 🤦‍♂️
  37. I think ultimately, the leg length is fine, it's the width that'll determine it. The car has a longer wheelbase than a golf, but is the same width. Basically, depends how wide the adults in question are, as to how comfortable they'll be.
  38. And yeah, cos people like being told what to do and where to go........... What a waste.
  39. That's just designed to confuse. I just like the way cyclists get all this whilst paying nothing to use the road..
  40. Bizarrely, they have fitted them slightly high there... They are normally fitted just above the door crease-line-thingy! This makes the change in door skin level almost impossible to notice, whilst there, it is quite clear. (I have always disliked that door line shape). The trim also prevents the whole door looking so "Slabby" and bland.
  41. Are you sure it's bent, and not just lopsided cos one of the cables isn't moving as much as the other? Got a photo? Comes as part of the whole handbrake lever, item 1 here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2015-797/7/711-711050/ Can you not whip one off a car at a scrapyard?
  42. So I decided to share the info about my situation as I see quite a lot of confusion regarding this fix. Some of you are mentioning the replacement of the selector while others are mentioning the replacement of the micro switch. As far as I know two types of repairs can be performed here. First one is the gear selector replacement as a whole unit with a newer micro switch model already built into it, which according to VAG, resolves the issue. However I believe some people stated having that repair already carried out but with the issue remaining. I can't confirm this is 100% correct as it could be that these people suffered different issues. Something to keep in mind though especially if you have yo pay for the parts and labor yourself. The second type of repair is the installation of the additional micro switch on top of your gear selector unit. The part costs 38€ in Belgium and can be installed in 30min. This is already mentioned in this topic including the PDF for the recall 37M2 in the US. Do note that in the recall PDF it states it was not intended as an DIY fix and you should consult with an official VW (in this case) dealer. This is the opposite of what I did. :) I carried out this repair on my own and have not had the issue reappear since. This does not mean you should do it as well cause a dude from a forum did it. I'm simply stating the options available and depending on your car situation, you'll have to make your own decision. From what I read here, Skoda dealers in EU are more keen on installing new selector units than the micro switch. This might be due to Skoda not having it's own recall and/or not accepting the one from VW. Hopefully this clarifies questions why some people get quoted 300ish euros/quids while a 40ish euros/quids repair is available. Also, I added some photos so you can see how the switch looks. 43. You'll love the winter pack on cold and icy days or if you are soaked to the skin, the heated seats are gorgeous and they're also great if you have a bad back. 🤗 The screen is usually clear of ice in 90s.
  44. Well it is not Rieger side skirt. Actually I got it from China, shipped to OZ by marine. Cost me about 150 bucks for the side skirt itself, 20 bucks for shipping fee, 300 bucks for painting. I paint it with red on top, and black on bottom. It was like this, sorry for the low quality img. I was loving the side skirt at the beginning. But lately I felt it was a little bit too low for my taste. If you check the first pic, the side skirt was much lower than front and rear bumper. It makes the car looks like a guy with big belly. So I simply cut the black part, it looks much better for my taste. Simply Clever. I also made a pair of removable black side skirts.

I had a rattle like that, for some reason it was the rear seat back rattling on the hook it locks onto in the upright position. It was one of the earliest things I did to my car, wrapped the loop in a bit of duct tape. It’s still there, and silent 🙂 Yours may be from somewhere different but worth checking

  47. Black Pack or not they were not a factory fit or dealer option on Mk2 Fabia vRS 2010-2014 in the UK or any country.. You just buy them and apply.
  48. I think that is a poor comparison and there is some unintentional scaremongering going on. The Kia's 1.6 petrol engine is naturally aspirated, whereas the Kodiaq's 1.5 petrol engine is turbocharged. Lots of the comments about "diesel is much better for towing" should really say "engines that produce lots of torque from low revs are better for towing". Which is basically a modern diesel or petrol turbocharged engine. Bear in mind that the Kodiaq's 1.5 petrol produces a healthy maximum torque of 250Nm very early at 1500rpm. Because the Kia has no turbo, it has to be revving nearly 3 times higher (4850RPM) to produce much less torque (161Nm). The equivalent diesel Kodiaq admittedly produces 35% more torque than the 1.5 petrol, but it's 16% further up the rev range. So whilst the diesel might be "better", it's no longer dramatically better. Also worth bearing in mind that a regular poster on the forum - Silver - tows quite a large caravan with the older 1.4 petrol Kodiaq and reports no issues. I would comment though that whilst the forward gearing on our DSG gearbox Kodiaq seems fine, the reverse gear is ludicrously tall. Our driveway is quite steep and I've given up trying to reverse up it. Our 190BHP diesel Kodiaq has vast amounts of low down diesel torque, yet it still butchers the clutch trying to reverse up the drive. So I'd personally avoid having to reverse a trailer or caravan up a hill with a DSG equipped Kodiaq.
  49. Thank you to to everyone for your experience and advice. Armed with that I have gone slowly and am pleased to report that I have successfully removed my drivers side (right hand front) grab handle and I managed to do that without breaking the cover/plugs or the spring steel clips inside. I've enclosed photos to illustrate my description. I finally managed to get a cheap flat-blade screwdriver that did not have a hardened shaft and I bent the shaft to 90 degrees without snapping the screwdriver. I then used this bent screwdriver along with an unbent screwdriver and prised the cover/plug out slowly. It is really tight and you have to wiggle the plug/cover by alternately wiggling the two screwdrivers. I think if you just tried to use the bent screwdriver on its own the plug/cove will snap. Later in the photo sequence you can see why the cover/plug is so tight- there is a dip in the plastic cover/plug that communicates with a bump in the middle of the metal clip on each side of the clip and cover/plug. If you work the cover/plug out slowly the metal clip will not be lost. But beware when you probe in with the bent screwdriver as it is possible to pick up the lip of the metal clip with the screwdriver clip and dislodge it as I try to show in one of the photos as everything is hidden from view. If the tip of the bent screwdriver goes in at right angles into the cover/plug recess, then you should be OK. I hope the various photos will remove mystery surrounding what the various parts look like.
  50. New guy here from Cumbernauld-already said my hellos in Hellos and Goodbyes section. I came from a Mazda 6 2.2 D which I've had for four years into an Octavia VRS Estate Petrol in Rallye Green-named Kermit by my 10 year old daughter . Only had it a few days but absolutely love the car. Previous cars include Mondeo STTDCi and Seat Leon Cupra. Looking forward to joining in here and hoping to get plenty out of the forums.
