Having had 4 Skodas over the last 20 years I thought the new Octavia would be yet another excellent car. How wrong I was! There are so many annoying things surrounding the use of the new infocenter and with the car software that doesn't work correctly as mentioned in other posts. I can't see Skoda sorting these things out anytime soon, if at all, and the frustrated feelings every time I get in the car I can no longer live with. Despite the huge financial cost I'm off! Skoda you've let us down and you're losing loyalty.
  2. I'll 'phone a friend' ie hubby who's tech-savvy
  3. Chances are it might have been moisture on the auxillary belt, which can make a noise when it slips. If the timing belt is fine and all the timing is still working then you will be fine. The tsb relates to some of the tensioners and adjusters making noise. One of the solutions is to spray lubricant onto the tensioners and adjusters to quieten then down. VAG are always changing parts and revisions of parts so I wouldnt be unduly worried.
  4. I cleaned the strainer for the Haldex (4x4) pump, which is the second time of cleaning. Although the car was booked in to have its first MOT, brake fluid change and the Haldex serviced with the addition of a strainer clean which the main dealer agreed would be done for me as requested. Things didn't quite go as planned , a couple of hours after dropping the car off at the dealer I got a call stating that the mechanic had said what filter did I want cleaning as the Haldex didn't have one to which I repeated to the service person that it is a small white strainer on the end of the pump and I know that Skoda do not think it needs cleaning but it is a cause for pump failures across the VW group and I want it done. An hour later the car is ready but they say they didn't have time to do the filter but I could book it in some other time because it will take 3 hours and cost £300 just to clean it. Fuming, I calmly explained it an extra 10 minutes work and said ill have to do it myself at home again thanks for nothing. So the question would be are they incompetent or dishonest? At 12 Month / 14,000 Miles At 36 Months / 28,000 Miles So according to Skoda / VW this is not a service part and only an oil change is required every 3 Years. The second one was 80% as dirty as the first so I will clean again in another 14k or so.

Well after a year of watching EMBN on YouTube i finally bought an emtb originally wanted a full suspension bike, but after much thinking and the fact I probably won’t be launching myself down the side of a Cliffe anytime soon, and 97% of the time I would be on road and odd flat trail I decided on a hard tail. Went to the local bike shop a couple of times to see what they had in, first couple of visits was very little due to no stock because of COVID. Went in last week to see what was available, and they still had a long lead time and no guarantee of getting the bike. But I saw a Haibike Sduro Hardseven in a large size which was the last bike they had in stock. Was told to take it for a spin round the block, Wow what a machine, so comfortable to ride, with so much room, coming from a 25yr old bike! So I said I would take it, thinking I would come back in week to pick it up, “We can have it, ready in an hour for you to take today” came the reply , so I rode it the 8 miles home all through the towns, not cycling gear on. Anyway that enough rambling on, Been out a few times and clocked up 65 miles in a week, normally used to manage 18.. So here is a quick pick.
  6. New car round 2!! Finance accepted and deposit paid on this one from Marshall’s. I am much happier with the incredibly thorough service from Marshall’s, have been through all the history, had a video sent to me, no pressure throughout and they’ve cut me a deal I’m really happy with on it. Collection on this one will be 3 weeks today as I need to wait for the Octy to go first as it is a bit more than the other one but it’s a facelift with some options which is what I really wanted. Let’s hope this one is better 😍 Will start a fresh thread when it arrives, keeps things separate 😊
  7. Where one can play with the motorbikes
  8. we shall .. my wife was just trying to be independent of me and also wondering if others with this model and time period had suffered these issues and whether they had any satisfaction from Skoda UK .. the dealerships are useless so it will fall back to Skoda UK one way or another . The key issue is ... is it accessory belt squeal due to moisture , pulley issues or timing belt/tensioner issues ?. The issue is IF it is the latter then it is £1000 as a genuine timing belt kit comes complete with belt tensioner and pump anything else isn't covered by parts warranty and out garage will not do it . If it is the accessory belt .. leave alone .. BUT if the timing belt subsequently fails neither Skoda or our garage will any have any liability and we have an £8000 bill for a new engine in a low mileage car! .. Hence her concerns and seeking help on this esteemed forum. My knowledge of mechanics stopped in the 70's with carburettors and real engines .. . I have a VrS 230 petrol .. and the excess electronics and inability to do anything without removing 1/2 the car really pees me off :(

15.5mph is just the speed the electrical assistance cuts out at. I quite like this as anything above it and I'm getting more exercise, under my own steam. I had a Badass dongle on mine, which meant I could ride effortlessly at 31mph, which was fun, but I ended up just being in a hurry to get everywhere. Having had a significant off at 15mph which included some time in A&E, I decided that powered up to 15.5 is enough for me. So I've a Badass dongle, for a Shimano E6000 series going if anyone fancies one. Gaz
  10. Will do, should be nice and easy, clip the sensors to the diffuser, stick the module to the diffuser, run the wires to the KESSY module in the front and code
  11. What was the weather (temperature and humidity) when the noise happened, and how many days since it had last been used, and was it parked outside. Did you put a high load on the alternator (eg turning on electric window heater, & mirror, seat heaters etc I query how many days parked, because you have a 3-4 year old car with only 20k miles, so clearly doesn’t do many miles per month. Could have got quite a bit of condensation whilst parked. If there had been condensation /damp a belt might have slipped a bit, more likely to be the auxiliary belt. But if garage now parks it in the warm or dry they are never going to replicate a damp belt slipping however long they keep it. I would get them to check the belt tension, and spray the pulleys of alternator, water pump etc with a water repellent, possibly also spray a few drops of penetrating oil on each of the shafts, just in case they are not turning completely free.
  12. Just washed the Rapid despite the on-off rain. Needs must as gulls always bombard the car at works car park. Did a fallout remover treatment. Then washed with autoglym shampoo. Finished with a ceramic wax. As you can see, the fallout remover definitely did its thing.

It's a good battery by all accounts, might be worth checking it's been coded in correctly if you don't who and why they changed it.
  14. Is this on both sides or 1 as my friend had this issue and it was the spring cracked right at the top of the mount under the wing no noises or any other issues apart from the tyre wear, he had control arm bushes new track rod ends and a new hub bearing fitted but tyres still went the same way, you would not have believed it until the spring was removed from the car and could then see the fracture on the last coil part which was opening out on driving it seemed to changed the camber of the wheel thus causing this sort of damage, if tracking was this far out you would notice the way the car handled
  15. Starting 8pm Sunday. Garages not cars, but then garages are for parking cars.
  16. I think they may have had a too quick look at ETKA. £300 is more or less the price of the complete pump set (including Pump and its strainer of course + 2 O-rings + 2 screws). There's really nothing but the 2 O-rings + the 2 screws to be replaced, once the pump has been removed and strainer cleaned. (according to official Skoda workshop manual, downloaded from cardiagn.com) When I did it on my own, it costed me ~75€ for - Oil - New bleed and filling screws - 2 O-rings and pump screws If you have a look to my "How to..." guide, it's even more simpler! By the way, you can have a look to how the strainer looked like and how the oil was, when I did it. I changed Haldex Oil at 45000 km (~28000 mi), very similar to what @Martin201 has just done.
  17. 1ks, I've ordered them. Thanks for that. That's what the impact wrench is for lol
  18. Sounds like you are clued up to the issue now you've had a chance to read up on it. Yep I was wrong. Didn't even think to question the lateral movement. Please let us know how you go. You'd expect a good will as a minimum considering the situation.

40 years ago now (how time flys) but I loaded some proper council ones in the back of my Suzuki Jeep which had a bone jarring ride on really stiff leaf springs, cant recall how many but it was too many, it didn't seem to noticeably drop on the springs but as soon as I tried to drive off I realised that I had made a big big mistake. The car was never the same after that short drive, suspension and transmission felt & sounded like the vehicle was 20 years old & had been to the moon & back, not the almost brand new vehicle that it was. If you just sit 2 adults on the rear loading lip of an Octavia Estate it is already on the bump stops, you need to get the slabs as far forward as you can to share the load between the axles.

I've never loaded up an Octavia so i'm going to go with at least 6 as a sensible option, 8 if you are feeling brave. I think any more than that and the bump stops will be getting tested

Is there a maximum weight in your handbook? But 6 or 7 should be okay

Sorry to hear your frustration leading you to the end of the road. I’ve read your posts and can empathise with you, as I suspect my car may develop or already have same issues. I just haven’t driven that much since owning it due to lock down and because it’s been in the dealer’s garage for the last 12 days. Better luck with you next car!
  23. Let me know how difficult the install is once you do it please!
  24. If possible convert the video to mp3 format & post that. The file size will be much smaller

The Legal Speed in the UK is what it is and what Importers can legally import and sell. What can legally be the top speed of a pedal assist. You can chip / mod them to be illegal pedal assist on the public road in the UK or for use offroad, Saying on a public forum that you have an illegal pedal assist in the UK is not that smart. I can ride pedal assists that are legal & i can go above 20 mph pedalling without assist and that is with one leg. As quick as i can downhill even breaking the 30mph limit if in one. Then i can pedal with assist up hills as quick or quicker than some cyclists with 2 legs, but then i have assist up to 15 and a bit mph and lots of torque dependingon which electric motor the bike has. For me the best one for climbing is the Brose motor on a Specialised.
  26. Your mileage, wallet and common sense will tell you whether you should buy a 272/280. You won’t regret the traction it offers. I saw a lovely Aprilia RSV4 sport bike yesterday in a friend’s garage. He said he could have continued reading all the reasons why not to buy one, or just go out and get it. He reasoned correctly that you only get one life, so decided to stop messing around.
  27. I think you need to have specified "Travel Assist. Includes traffic sign recognition, adaptive lane assist, predictive adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist." in the options list for this to work.
  28. @varaderoguyWhy do you consider the 2016 Scout suspension to be rubbish?
  29. http://www.orangewheels.co.uk/skoda/skoda-kodiaq/custom/skoda-kodiaq-hybrid.html
  30. Because they go wrong a lot and are expensive new, also there are comparatively few Fabias in scrapyards.
  31. Also as above. Ten minute idle not good for your engine. I start the car and wait for it to come down off fast idle, then drive conservatively until it reaches running temp.
  32. I had a feeling you were slightly off... so had to check - Elegance is the 3rd up trim level - classic - basic ambiente - med low (mine was this) elegance - med high vrs - shportee L&K - top end the "lx" ones below are the preFL trim levels. however... theres no electric adjustable seats optioned for the elegance or L&K taken from parkers. so... those electric seats were taken from another vehicle and retrofitted - possibly not very well if theres play in the mounting..
  33. Hi Mjig I don't think you've anything to worry about with the mazda 3, I had 3 off them over the last 7 years with only 2 issues in all that time. Would probably have another now if I could find 1 I could either afford or liked. That said, I'm loving the octavia so far.
  34. Ordered an iV last week! The station wagon with the style package and a few other extras. Planning to use it in electric mode only for my daily commute (25km per day, 30km at maximum), and hybrid mode on weekend family trips. Hope to get it in May.
  35. Its very strange because my new cars emissions are higher then the old one yet the road tax is less.. €390 on old car new car is €280...the new vrs is a complete different animal...with the mk3.5 i felt like i needed to trash it all the time ...mk4 feel like I want to cruise now the boys in work said it because I'm getting older...they maybe right !!!...I liked my red 2017 vrs but I'm start to really love the 2021 need more time with it to give true impression cheers !!!
  36. Front seat belts, especially drivers side seem to have been a potential cause for annoyance on Fabias, Polos and Ibizas from this period of manufacture, when it started being a problem with my wife's 2002 Polo driver's one, I left it fully extended over a weekend as I thought it felt damp, that worked for while, next plan was to repeat letting it dry out and try to hoover out any fluff etc, followed by spraying it with furniture polish and rubbing it with a cloth to work it in and remove any excess that could stain clothes - it worked okay after that until we moved it on at 13 years and 135K miles, though it was never "aggressive" in operation from new anyway.
  37. Letting the car idle for such a long time does not do any good. 30sec max, while say you put your seatbelt on or select modes, media etc. is fine, then just set off while obviously taking it easy during the first 5-10min (depending of temperature). The engine only really gets up to temp by driving it, idle has minimum effect and just wastes fuel for nothing.
  38. Tape measure? Thanks, AG Falco
  39. Far better car... and a 190
  40. The article mentioned its quirky design and looks. I find it normal but I was coming from a Mk1 Fiat Multipla.

Yes batteries do die and skoda fitted moll efb batteries which are no where near as good as the agm thats been fitted to yours .
  42. yep agree, theres just too many people that seem to get confused between driving mode and gearbox mode
  43. Haven't tried this myself, but this extract from the manual might help.
  44. I've also completed an OEM+ brake upgrade. This one's been a long time in the making! It all kicked off when I found a set of scruffy TTRS 4-piston Brembo calipers and 370mm discs in summer last year for a bargain price, but they were nasty! The calipers were sent away to be stripped and refurbished by Brake Caliper Refurbs (https://brakecaliperrefurbs.co.uk/) whilst I cleaned the rotors and polished the bells by hand. HEL supplied some braided lines specifically for the conversion. Before: After: On the rear are Golf mk5 R32 calipers+carriers with 310mm MTEC drilled discs to match the fronts. EBC RedStuff pads all round and ATE fluid. Due to a comprehensive lack of time (thanks in part to homeschooling and fatherhood in general) I enrolled the services of a good friend and Audi master tech who now has his own mobile workshop. So huge thanks goes out to Rob at RIO Autotech (https://rioautotech.co.uk/) who came out to me and went above and beyond to get the job done. Awesome work! Currently struggling under lockdown to get any miles on to bed it all in, but it looks the part and should provide a lot more stopping power and consistency when we're finally allowed out to play again!

I fitted a Westfalia detachable swan neck. I had no pre prep so it was a bit of a faff running all the wires, the guides on here and the guide that came with the kit were pretty straightforward and easily DIYable. The prep you have should be behind the Left hand rear boot liner above the arch and the wiring clips into there. You will be told, make sure you have it all coded correctly to ensure the vehicle acts correctly when towing (ABS, traction control etc) Hope that helps, good luck
  46. hello all new to here thought id pop in say hello had this for about 6 months love it very nippy motor nice jump from a MK3 fabia monte Carlo. Now going to enjoy many more years with this 😊😊
  47. I had a major service, cambelt, brake fluid change etc at a main dealer and it was only £730 so that is way too expensive. It's 5 years or 60000 miles, whichever comes first. Either way, you are close to the right figure so get it done. If you don't and it fails, you'll wish you had... Nick
  48. I'll just leave this here...
