Right... Regardless of rights or wrong, this has to stop. The fact that we're getting reports and having to consider cleaning up a goodbye thread clearly proves that some things have gone too far!

Wish you well, Moley. Maybe take a sabbatical? Maybe reconsider your decision in a few months' time? I have been tempted to walk away from Brisky many times, particularly when Mike and Andy moved on. But the reality is there are a lot of truly decent, helpful folk on here whose company I would miss. Like others on here, I just ignore the few names that irritate and I continue to enjoy and participate in one of the best Forums there is. Whatever your decision, all the best for the future
  3. 5 points
All the best moley, but please reconsider in the cold light of day. The ignore function is reasonably effective at removing those that irritate excessively.

Please folks, consider the mods/admins and Colin before posting inflammatory stuff. The future existence of the site could be threatened by a handful of inconsiderate individuals.
  5. Well, yesterday was intense. My first time using a machine polisher to try and correct the paintwork. There were numerous scratches, scuffs and a ton of really bad swirling. I couldn't get them all out, but I did my best! I debadged to make the polishing easier. First up, the clean. Process (& products); Jet wash to loosen dirt up Snow foam (AD purple velvet) Rinse 2 bucket method wash (Sonax gloss) Alloy clean (Gtechniq W6 Iron & General Fallout Remover) 2 bucket method wash - again! (Sonax gloss) Rinse Dry (woolly mammoth towel) The value of the grit guard and 2 bucket method! Some before and after shot with the das 6 pro DA and Meguiars 205. I plan to do a finishing polish and wax soon, but it got to 10pm and I was absolutely knackered! When it stops raining, I'll drop some pics of the full car.

The political stuff on here is a bit like clickbait really. No good will come of it, but just occasionally it is hard to resist ! Mainly, I just resist and ignore.
  7. 3 points
It can be tricky to ignore. Sometimes I want to rage against posts, and others I want to agree with. If I file it all under 'ignore' though, I do leave the site feeling happier!

There are members on this site who prefer to discuss (continuously argue) politics rather than cars. That’s why the ignore feature is so good.
  9. Well finally managed to work out why it was eating rear brakes, handbrake cables were stuck on so that was todays job pretty decent fuel economy on the way over too One thing that i also seemed to get asked is 100-200 times which imo i think are utterly pointless because you're never going to be in that range, 30-70, 50-70 is more my thing but i thought i'd give it ago. Gearing is rubbish for it, it sets a stupid quick time 100-190 but then 190-200 takes 2 seconds because you're above 5k and if you change gear then you're losing the same amount of time with the gear change, logs show ecu is telling the turbo to make 2.1 bar and its making 2.4 though Also came across a couple of folk i knew lately and they got a couple of drive bys without meth With meth hence the smoke Was down to my last meth as well and that was quickly used up after meeting a stage 1 golf r and a 700bhp nitrous'd sierra cosworth so had to order some more which should do me a while and some photo spam from pictures ive took over the last few weeks
  10. Just washed the Rapid despite the on-off rain. Needs must as gulls always bombard the car at works car park. Did a fallout remover treatment. Then washed with autoglym shampoo. Finished with a ceramic wax. As you can see, the fallout remover definitely did its thing.

Colin might not be able to address all the above tonight due to other matters but I certainly will. Normally this wouldn't be 'on view' but I'll make an exception in light of what's been said. Firstly I'd like to hope that @moley reconsiders his viewpoint but respect his decision whatever is decided. Being a Freedom member shows a level of commitment to Briskoda which is certainly appreciated. It does not absolve people from adhering to the Site Guidelines however as all members are treated with the same even handed approach. If there is any problem with moderation or how the site is run then it should not be brought up in open forum - but by PM to Colin - as per the Guidelines! I feel that all the moderators are 'sympathetic' to all the members and not just certain ones as has been implied. I think that I know who you're referring to about 'unseen' behind the scenes help and to be blunt, just because you're unaware, doesn't mean it hasn't happened or needs divulging! It's in plain view and directly helps Briskoda so let that be put to bed. In 2. I presume you're referring to @cheezemonkhai as 'he has now gained the right to edit other people's posts'? Even though he's showing as a Freedom member, his Shield also designates him as being a Moderator with the implicit right to edit/move/hide etc as the need arises. There is no such thing as a 'super biased moderator' - just because they have a differing overview on things doesn't mean they are biased! Remember all moderation decisions are logged and subject to scrutiny by peers. 3. Your technical knowledge is not in question - neither is that from @e-Roottoot. Nobody can be correct all the time but all help is gratefully received by the person asking. It's down to them to sort the wheat from the chaff. Hopefully there's more wheat than chaff going forward. My concern is when people do not act in an adult way regarding these differences. @Warrior193 raises a valid point, as does @Wino but as I said earlier, Colin will reply in due course to cover any outstanding points.

+ 1 to that. This car forum would be a million times better for having done so, the Brexit and political mudslinging aside it is by far the best forum community I have ever experienced and in stark contrast to most others.
  13. Golf axle is different and will not fit. Handbrake cables are different and will not fit. Rear discs are not better than drums on slow cars, just fix the drums, parts are cheaper than the mess you'll make trying to do the swap.

Oh dear... Not another one! I guess the reaction you already have is typical of why? I tend to agree with your sentiment but find the other stuff on here makes it well worthwhile staying. Please reconsider!!
  15. Oemwolf.com website can be handy for spotting such equivalences. If you stick that Fabia part number in the search box (minus all the spaces) you find that it gets superseded first by 6Y0035411D in 2006, which was then superseded by an Octy mk2, suffix-Q number 1Z0035411Q in 2011 If you then search for the Octy mk2 part number 1Z0035411C you see that it too is superseded by the same Suffix-Q part number in 2011, thus demonstrating interchangeability.
  16. Having asked politely and firmly for people not to simply post links in my thread, but to actually bother to write something to show they have an interest in the subject (good or bad) and not just to show they can click on a web site that 99% of us probably look at anyway. The above post must be the latest in at least 35 consecutive posts without bothering to post a single thought or word I give up
  17. New car round 2!! Finance accepted and deposit paid on this one from Marshall’s. I am much happier with the incredibly thorough service from Marshall’s, have been through all the history, had a video sent to me, no pressure throughout and they’ve cut me a deal I’m really happy with on it. Collection on this one will be 3 weeks today as I need to wait for the Octy to go first as it is a bit more than the other one but it’s a facelift with some options which is what I really wanted. Let’s hope this one is better 😍 Will start a fresh thread when it arrives, keeps things separate 😊
  18. Hi, I’ve just taken delivery of a 21 registered Superb 1.5 tsi Sel. Overall I’m very happy with it apart from one issue... excessive road and tyre noise. This really takes the shine off the car for me. My previous car was a Golf estate, which I still own, and jumping from one into the other for comparison shows just how much noisier the Skoda is. The 1.5 petrol engine is very smooth and quiet so no issues there but tyre roar and other road noises make a considerable racket. It has 18” zenith wheels and is fitted with Continental tyres. I did drive one last year and found the road and tyre noise to be very intrusive, making it a less than relaxing driving experience. This was fitted with Continental tyres and things improved slightly when they were swapped for Pirellis. It would be an expense to swap tyres which are almost new, (500 miles), so I am reluctant to go down this route. I would be interested to know if any other Superb owners have found this to be a problem, and if anyone has any suggestions of solutions. Many thanks, Gary.
  19. Change out of a twenty pound note ! You haggled very well !!! There is a Cappuccino round the corner from where I live, and it is clearly very loved. Shame I can't fit in one, because I'd love to have a test drive.
  20. Just a thought. The embargo on the new M3/4 ends tonight so we should be bombarded with reviews. I'll keep this thread unlocked for them BUT I ASK VRSKEITH TO START HIS OWN THREAD ON THE MATTER WITH ENDLESS LINK POSTING. I BELIEVE THAT IN A FORUM, IT IS THE MEMBERS THAT COUNT, NOT THE MOUSE CLICKS, COPY AND PASTE. SO I AM ASKING ONE MORE TIME KEITH. PLEASE DO NOT POST IN MY THREAD. THIS IS MEANT AS A THREAD FOR DISCUSSION NOT WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU DO. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT HERE. I DON'T KNOW HOW ELSE TO ASK YOU TO STOP. forum noun 1. a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
  21. Known problem, I have done whole car noise insulation. Today I would choose Kodiaq, it has far better road noise insulation. Here is a Superb noise thread:
  22. 2 hours cleaning and masking, then 10 hours polishing with very few breaks. It was quite an ordeal, tbh! I think a lot of it was just building confidence using the machine and breaking down the compound effectively. The meguiars compound didn't help matters, either. The dust was incredible and made it a far less pleasant experience. I broke things down into small sections and once I got into the grove I was increasingly steady and consistent. I've got a couple of areas to revisit, but the process corrected a lot of issues with the paint so overall I'm pleased!
  23. If the timing belt was slipping, then you would have a catosphic engine failure due to the position of the valves and pistons all coliding together. I ~know~ the TPI says there is an adjuster issue, but that is not what is being presented here. The TPI for the timing/cam-belt exhibits an issue with the belt 'catching' the side of the adjuster and causing it rattle like mad. So - therefore, it is belt related and a good chance is that it is aux-belt related. The technician needs to have a proper look and not just look at the TPI's, cos that won't fix it.
  24. @GypWhat age of car with how many miles on it. EDIT. If this is a 1.4TSI then it is a DQ200 DSG as i posted about below. Sorry, i thought it would be a 2.0 TDI, The Fabia / Yeti & Octavia section DSG's with MCU issues are liable to be 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG's so DQ200's. They have a World Wide Recall excluding Europe in 2012, a Service Campaign on them up to 2012 in Europe, another 2013-15, then again a recall in Australia in 2019. Not many reports of issues from 2015 other than the Clutch Slip issues as in the Mk3 Fabia section, then the issues with the DQ200 with some 1.5 TSI's. There are software updates for that.

Hi Oneshot, welcome to the forum - I suspect that the additional battery in circuit will confuse the supposedly 'clever' micro-hybrid charging system. Unlikely to damage anything but you may find that without coding the additional battery capacity into the BMS you will get little (or no) charging from the vehicles alternator. Worth a try though.

Hi Colin, rather than punish all, is it possible to just target the offenders?
  28. I am having mine changed tommorow on 13000. Low usage has been detrimental to mine and the rears more so than the fronts have corroded on the inner face. The rear brakes stuck on and they are pulsating through the brake pedal. I am going for Ferodo All round. Discs and pads £500 all in.
  29. The vacuum/solenoid block on top of the offside strut tower may be worth homing in on to see if it may be the source of the clickage.

Its time @ColinD made an executive decision and shutdown the Roadside Hotel and other forums where the handful of offensive and irritating threads exists where certain individuals can be obnoxious, and often adopt the broken record style. 1. I do not spend my time on the internet permanently logged on, I do not want to be tracked, and I regularly clear cookies etc, many times a day for security reasons as I access important and sensitive information often. I prefer to check occasionally for new content simply by checking "All activity". So ignore function does not work for me and on days I see many inflammatory posts as I scan the site. You simply can't ignore them. 2. The resident moderators are too sympathetic to certain members, there seems to be a policy of Freedom members can say what they want. IIRC one freedom member even boasts about "unseen" behind the scenes helping of the site but does not say how. Not sure, but from a brief foray into the roadside hotel, it seems that certain members have now gained the right to edit other peoples posts, becoming super biased moderators. Obvious what the consequences would be. 3. As for technical forums (my interest) there are other long resident characters who can sometimes get offensive and aggressive when they disagree with what is posted. I have tried to avoid them, but it still angers me when they try to belittle other peoples opinions, some even spend what must be considerable effort to dig up and quote ancients posts and like to accuse members of lying or talking BS. They, however, on the other hand are never wrong, and as a result people are too afraid to challenge their posts. 4. The system of reactions fosters a strange obsession in some, and like facebook is abused by some individuals to upset people. Sorry for the lengthy rant.

So - along the lines of the fact that the Silicia teabags have been removed, you need to renew the silica in the coolant for pump and engine coolant lubrication. That's why the coolant needs to be changed every 5 years or 60,000 miles. This is taken from an old spec pre 2012 when they started using G12.
  34. If they're only moving up & down then it looks like AFS is disabled.
  35. If your nearest dealer wants £1000 to change belts then try another dealer as should be more like £500-600 If there are service and software updates, I would have thought they would be free, with Skoda picking up the cost. Its now March, and if it is a cold weather problem, do you really need to get it done this side of October, if you are having to pay for it. Although if you are claiming goodwill sooner claim is done the better. Skoda did offer some form of warranty extension during first lockdown when dealerships were closed, not sure if you could argue same reasoning now. However something is bit odd in that you have a euro6 diesel for only 6500 miles per year which is not normally recommended, did a Skoda salesperson mis-sell you a car which would strengthen any goodwill request.
  36. Just to help settle your mind. Here is a Polish website showing the base model gets ESP with ABS, EBD, MSR, ASR, EDL, HBA, DSR, RBS, ESBS, TSA, XDS+ as standard: https://www.wyborkierowcow.pl/nowa-skoda-octavia-2020-opis-wersji-i-cennik/ Example video showing the EDL in action on a MK4 Scout:
  37. We looked at the Sharan, and it’s VERY under specked for a car of that size. On our Alhambra, we specked, Keyless entry, 18” wheels, Towbar, and our car, the SE LUX came with the 187ps engine, DSG gearbox, a Panaramic roof with full sun blind, full leather front seats heated, DAB radio with rear camera, electric tailgate and rear doors, paddles on the steering wheel, front and rear PDC and a whole bunch more. Our Alhambra is the best speck we could’ve made it and the standard features were amazing for the £2999 initial payment plus the options.
  38. You can get a full list of TSB/TPI's against your VIN from Skoda: https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/ An hour and a 'print to pdf' function should be enough to get most the data for your car. There are also workshop manuals, wiring diagrams etc too
  39. Picture of the cars calibrated Speedo, only found fitted on the police cars.
  40. It's 3 years and 2 months old and only 20K miles . If it needs doing Skoda are facing a court action if they don't assist .. sorry .The bill is for genuine Skoda parts inc pump timing kit , accessory belt and software update due to catalytical issues . Upto my wife whether she keeps it . Yes if we use non genuine parts it is cheaper .. also NO warranty .. from Skoda or our garage .. point for those who use local dealers and non genuine parts :(
  41. Skoda quote about £600 for the job. I'm getting mine done next week for £380 by an indie.
  42. we shall .. my wife was just trying to be independent of me and also wondering if others with this model and time period had suffered these issues and whether they had any satisfaction from Skoda UK .. the dealerships are useless so it will fall back to Skoda UK one way or another . The key issue is ... is it accessory belt squeal due to moisture , pulley issues or timing belt/tensioner issues ?. The issue is IF it is the latter then it is £1000 as a genuine timing belt kit comes complete with belt tensioner and pump anything else isn't covered by parts warranty and out garage will not do it . If it is the accessory belt .. leave alone .. BUT if the timing belt subsequently fails neither Skoda or our garage will any have any liability and we have an £8000 bill for a new engine in a low mileage car! .. Hence her concerns and seeking help on this esteemed forum. My knowledge of mechanics stopped in the 70's with carburettors and real engines .. . I have a VrS 230 petrol .. and the excess electronics and inability to do anything without removing 1/2 the car really pees me off :(
  43. Thanks for your comments. When I order my new Octavia I will select this larger space-saver spare, as it’s still preferable to the “skinny” space-saver in my 2018 Octavia, but I appreciate it’s still not a full spare so as you state the same speed restrictions will apply.
  44. In general the smaller the rim, and deeper tyre sidewall the softer the ride will be. The outside circumference will be virtually identical so it not like you get smaller wheels with smaller rims (but tyre width may be different). The latest cars come with Eco summer tyres (officially low rolling resistance summer tyres), these are very firm, and below about +10c are hard and grip poorly. Changing to an all season tyre, or fitting winter wheels and tyres will make ride lot more comfortable from November until March (until April if you are in North) as these are lot more compliant below about +12c EDIT : Just checked and brochure says 15 inch has low rolling resistance tyres, 16 inch has (normal summer) tyres. The 16inch is more obscure tyre size (and possibly low rolling resistance not yet made in that size). This means which is best will be different on cold day to a warm day, which rather complicates your question. Buying the 15 inch gives better/cheaper choice of all season tyre, but go for 16s if you get winter wheel set. Tyres will cost lot more in the rarer 215/45 R16 86H size
  45. I cleaned the strainer for the Haldex (4x4) pump, which is the second time of cleaning. Although the car was booked in to have its first MOT, brake fluid change and the Haldex serviced with the addition of a strainer clean which the main dealer agreed would be done for me as requested. Things didn't quite go as planned , a couple of hours after dropping the car off at the dealer I got a call stating that the mechanic had said what filter did I want cleaning as the Haldex didn't have one to which I repeated to the service person that it is a small white strainer on the end of the pump and I know that Skoda do not think it needs cleaning but it is a cause for pump failures across the VW group and I want it done. An hour later the car is ready but they say they didn't have time to do the filter but I could book it in some other time because it will take 3 hours and cost £300 just to clean it. Fuming, I calmly explained it an extra 10 minutes work and said ill have to do it myself at home again thanks for nothing. So the question would be are they incompetent or dishonest? At 12 Month / 14,000 Miles At 36 Months / 28,000 Miles So according to Skoda / VW this is not a service part and only an oil change is required every 3 Years. The second one was 80% as dirty as the first so I will clean again in another 14k or so.
  46. Uncanny had pretty much same issue with having to replace battery but engine light was already on which I believed was caused by car stalling after only just getting started. So on Thursday had to take my car for MOT runs out on Monday at dealer and thought nothing of the engine light assuming they would just clear it and everything goes away. How wrong could I be . Got call from dealer a couple of hours later saying cannot clear the error messages including most of those listed above but repeated here for other to refer to U112300 Data bus signal reception P067400 Glow plug cyl 4 defective P05A000 Radiator blind component stuck open U042800 steering wheel angle sensor signal improbable P003000 O2 sensor heated circuit bank1 sensor 1 open circuit P060600 Control unit component defective Dealer informs me with new stricter rules light on is auto MOT failure - which I believe is true. Only suggestions from dealer 1) replace the fault units including the ECU best they could do £2,300 or trade in my MK3 for a good deal Took my Mk3 away and decided on off chance to go to small independent garage. Did the OBD check for me and they ALL cleared . They drove my car for 3 miles and they stayed off. Fingers crossed going back to them for the MOT on Wednesday . Hope this helps other possibly avoiding similar fate to me of possibly spending £2,300 for no reason as would never know if I simply let the dealer do what they said required. Ok so my car could fail its MOT on Wednesday for this or other reason - issue with misty shock for one example that Skoda have passed last 2 years to avoid it being a warranty replacement. Now out of warranty 106K. Also saw lights may take a couple of days to come back on as system resets. No idea but not driving car again until taking it to the garage on Wednesday for the MOT. Will let folks know !
  47. Wrestling with arch liners and front bumper most of the day. Such an effort just to replace the darn grille!
  48. Sounds like you are winning! We know what to get you for christmas now.....more WD40 !! Did you see this in the 'Chuckle in Your Day' thread ??
  49. Well its getting to that time of the Year when the Winter Wheels and Tyres can come off the Car, I wanted to get the Alloys Refurbished before I refit them onto the Car as there was the odd Minor mark on them. Last set I had done was in 2017 was on the Fabia VRS at a place in Rotherham called AP, Many people locally use Metal Magic in Barnsley but I have seen some of their work on a set of friends alloys and wasn't overly impressed with the finish. Decided to use a company called RS Wheel Refurbishment, Based in Sheffield and are actually on the same Industrial Estate as the Mechanic I know and use for all my Servicing & MOT's. Had a chat with them on the phone to get a rough quote and they said £216 including VAT for all Four Alloys, This includes removing and refitting the Tyres with New Valves and Wheel Balancing. I dropped them off this Morning and they should hopefully be done Next Week at some point, Just gone for the same OEM Silver Colour and I will get a Brand New set of Centre Caps to finish them off
  50. https://antyweb.pl/skoda-fabia-2021-takze-z-1-5-tsi-evo-i-travel-assist-juz-jezdzilismy/ There are a lot of reviews on foreign websites that give a lot more detail - this Polish review in particular has more pictures and analysis. I have added a picture of the dash/driving position from that article and think it looks good. The question for me is what is under the infotainment screen cover - hopefully user friendly layout.
