  1. Retrofitted MIB2.5 high (columbus) to replace mib2, retrofitted virtual cockpit. Havent got the maps coming through over MOST from mib2.5 to the VC yet, must be some coding I missed. Getting working geko/fazit/odis live accounts with cp removal enabled to do this kind of retrofitting yourself is the hardest bit, but got there in the end. You can have a bad day when you start getting these blue screens haha, but got it all sorted

Blimey, what a roller coaster ride I've been on since making my last post! After signing up to swap my L&K for a new Sportline I sat and waited for the dealer to come back to me to complete formalities. After a few days I'd heard nowt so contacted them by phone, left message for salesperson. Got an email back saying good news and bad news. Bad news is we can't get the car we'd sold you, good news is we've found another very similar spec but it'll cost you £50 per month more. You can imagine my reaction. Expressions of anger etc to dealer and complaint to Skoda UK got me nowhere so took my business elsewhere. Every dealer I rang said same thing, no new 280 sportlines to be had. However, the dealer nearest to me found one somewhere down south and thought they'd be able to do a swap, After biting my nails for the past 10 days I've today got confirmation its on its way and I will get the keys on Thursday! Its in Race Blue which wiill be a lovely change from the L&K. Keep watching the youtube video of the guy taking a a near identical one down the autobahn at night! It's been a tortuous couple of weeks and has stressed me out something rotten but thankfully it's come good at the end!
  3. If it was a bonnet switch issue, the cluster would either show the door open light or the image above to warn you. If it was a fuse, then the wipers wouldn't work at all. Anyway, pretty sure this is normal behaviour. It's identical to what I remember happening on my MK2 Octavia which is the same platform and electronically very similar. The wipers would work normally when driving but when stopped, they would pretty much stop and only do a very occasional wipe. The Yeti manual states the wiper interval is speed dependant. My old Octavia manual goes one step further and states that below 4 km/h, the wipers will switch to auto/intermittent mode, it'll revert back to the correct interval at above 8 km/h. It's easy enough to test the wipers, turn the car on and have the wipers enabled then have someone spray the window with a hose pipe. I'm pretty sure they wipers will move just not as often as you expect. I certainly can't think of any obvious failures that would prevent the wipers moving only when stationary...
  4. I mean, we all have indirect TMPS on Superb, but previously mentioned document has reference to direct version.
  5. A pleasure meeting you @SashaGrace and I'll echo the comments of others - thanks for a very professional job of installing the camera, the bonus coding tweaks and tea. If you're thinking of installing a reversing camera etc I can't recommend her enough!
  6. Soo now I have full Maxton kit on mine. I think sideskirts could be a bit wider. But overall - in real life looks much better than in pics! Was a bit surprised how large the splitter is haha. Also: why cant I upload more pics ? It says I only have 100kb to upload and does not let me to upload anything....

  8. The window motor modules on your car are connected to each other by LIN bus (a cheaper, simpler alternative to CAN). They don't, as far as I can see, have any data/comms connection to the rest of the car's systems, including diagnostic interfaces. So they're not the easiest things to fault find, and are invisible to VCDS and code readers, I believe. Has the battery gone flat or been disconnected recently, prior to the trouble starting? There's a line or two in the owner's handbook about a reset procedure involving turning key in door lock stuff. The driver's door module is the LIN master, the others slaves.
  9. Without looking it up probably in the top 3,4 sellers? Trek I think get used a lot as hire bikes? More Q's than answers 🙄
  10. Well, if I wanted "fuel economy" I wouldn't buy a 1.6 ton SUV... I also wouldn't buy a £60 FleaBay resister box.
  11. Just to follow up on this after a couple of days driving round after the simplification mod. The car is noticeably smoother on idle. I had suspicions that the pipes were past their best and since the replacements the car seems happier. I haven't noticed any drop in performance, there are currently no error codes and the idle speed sits between 830/840rpm when warm. I'll give it a few more weeks and report back if there are any detrimental effects on the car & how it runs.

Update on my delivery! Ordered on the 24th of February 2021 an Octavia iV (PHEV), high trim, 18' inch wheels, full led matrix and electric tailgate; Dealer submitted internally on the 26th; Got build for week 14 (2nd week of April) and confirmed it. Dealer saw chassis number appearing on that week; Waited for transport and boat to Portugal. (yes, for some reason they arrive by boat here too..) Arrived to the dealer last Friday and I'm going to pick it up next Wednesday 26th. Almost exactly 90 days as per estimated.

  15. bit of a mixed bag of weather this morning, so wimped out and went the tarmac river side small puddles, rather than the big mud holes up the hills. gonna be nasty up there for a few days i reckon. anyway, it was a grand 20k pedal by the river, in 50mins followed by a nice shower a mnd a day of working from home.
  16. He does have his own car, but earns too much and has an attitude to money that I find very frustrating. He can throw away hundreds of pounds on stuff, thousands on holidays but will quibble and argue about small value things.
  17. Once he has his own car and he pays his fuel, he'll probably be much interested in listening to your advices...

  19. If you have paid for an hours subscription, go to "Vehicle Specification Information" and type in your VIN number, then the car information will be displayed in the same dropdown menu.
  20. @VRSbaz thanks for the posting. if you go to Skoda Erwin and take out an hour's subscription (about 7 Euros), you can get all the information on your car from there.
  21. For the underlay? If so, then no. I never bothered as I’d probably remove it again at some point.
  22. Typo in my original post. It will generate more ash when it's using more fuel, but it's an accumulation, so unless you accelerate to a higher speed every time, then you won't be using more fuel (in fact my mpg improved). probably a bigger factor will be around the quality of the map and how well it manages air flow to fuel rate.
  23. You're dead right! I'd just sussed it out when I came back in and saw your post. I noticed it was illuminated when I went out this morning and somehow had it in my had that when illuminated it was off. A real Doh! moment, the joys of new cars and technology, many thanks.

There are 3 different specs of BCM so some 'tweaks' need the medium or high spec BCM which isn't fitted to all Octavias - the tweaks seem to be accepted when you change the settings using VCDS but because the lower spec BCMs don't have the hardware don't actually work!
  27. My question only concerns 1.4 TSI engines that have timing chain regardless of power output. * EA-111 ---> 1.4 TSI = Timing chain. ( * EA-211 ---> 1.4 TSI = Timing belt. )
  28. You could try while on a slight hill, putting the car in neutral and taking the motor out of the equation, and rolling/braking to a stop? I wouldn't try re-engaging gear while moving with a DSG. If it still does the vibration it's more likely to be steering, wheels or suspension based then. I have VRS with 20 inch wheels and inflate to 2.7 bar and the ride is fine, so don't think your tyre pressure is the reason, that just changes the firmness. Check the tyre wear and if anything is stuck in one, or even better you don't have dry mud hidden on the inside of the rim. Vibes through the steering wheel are common with a lot of built up mud on the rim, or simply dropping a wheel balance weight, which you won't necessarily notice from the outside.
  29. My iPhone gets quite warm whilst charging and using CarPlay - but no more so that wireless charging at home. I think it may be a function of wireless charging as if I use a cable it gets less warm.
  30. Hi Pagan-Image, Yes you're right, mine was actually the same as yours. In the end I had to cut open the bag and suck out the content as the silica was preventing the bottom of the bag compressing to pass the reservoir opening. I didn't want to rupture it by pulling too hard. I also found having an extra pair of hands very useful to steady the bag whilst I removed the silica content. Photographs below.
  31. Because manufacturers are so keen to achieve low emissions and good official consumption figures, I suspect that nowadays most cars come already “tuned” to the economy end of what’s possible; there’ll not be much left to gain with an after-market box. Two of the most effective ways to increase economy would be, of course, to avoid something so large as a Kodiaq, and to avoid 4x4!
  32. Mine did this just before battery failed. If the volts are low it doesn’t initialise
  33. The sales manager was well-informed and showed me the set-ups, which went in and out of my brain immediately, but after I sat on the drive at home and went through it all again, it was fairly straightforward. As Sir Ron states, it's easy to drive with minimal instruction, but I want to find out everything it can do and despite the many training videos and the online manual, I'm struggling with the sat nav. I can navigate to places but cannot find out how to save favourites as it seems to freeze up. However, the Octavia estate is a beautiful design, so I'm in a forgiving mood!
  34. Hi guys, I’m giving some news about my Octavia's exhaust sound. I replaced the central resonator, and put in place a FOX resonator delete. Result: I spent only 117€ and I am very satisfied with the result! I read a few posts, concerning the resonator delete causing annoying "drones" around 2500rpm, but for me it's quite the opposite. I love that sound at 2500rpm, and I often accelerate between 2000-3000rpm, just to get it! Then DSG farts are much better too!!👌 At the same time, I mounted a turbo inlet pipe/hose, and a muffler delete, and it’s just perfect. Now I have a better turbo inlet sound, and a better exhaust sound, for less than 300€, not bad I think… Thank you all for the help, and have a nice weekend…
  35. Might be contacting the seller, I'm not sure if the sinosmart cameras support coding or not. They are a bit weird as they seem to automatically recode other modules when they are fitted which scares me... When I fitted my OEM one, I had to apply the following changes so it could be worth checking them if you have access to VCDS/OBDeleven: Coding was super easy: - Address 19, add 6C to the installation list - Address 10, coding, tick byte 2 bit 4 - Address 5F, adaptions, change Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-VPS_0x0B to "activated" - Address 5F, adaptions, change Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-VPS_0x0B_msg_bus to "Infotainment data bus"
  36. Add to that list - MY16 Octavia 1.4TSI - no silica bag from factory.
  37. @bigade1 Thanks, realised after that I was mistaken and the parts guy confirmed M is the last version. Going to have it done next week after another dealer quoted €476 for the same job thus making the €140 inspection fee seem like a bargain. FML
  38. @MassiveTurboLag Just in case you decide to buy one yourself the T revision was dropped on 01/02/2020 and the M revision is the latest revision as illustrated in this parts catalogue:
  39. A little difficult to see how casting sand has been left in cooling channels, as some posters have posited, but seemingly no evidence of it in oil ways. I have not seen actual engine-block production, but I'd guess the bare block goes through thorough cleansing process involving all passages. On another note, the appearance of the residue that has been the cause of heating matrix's may possibly be a little misleading - I once had a diesel contamination (diesel bug) issue in my boats fuel system - the stuff clogging the primary and secondary filters was black and gritty, and looked (and felt) for all the world like sand! It was actually dead and dying bacteria.
  40. This is not a snake oil issue, I'm quite certain.
  41. Ok, adding "supermarket diesel" to list of possible reasons thanks.

I see your point, however if you can claim why not. Other people are world wide and why should car companies get away scot free selling us products that are not as described. It is personal choice if you claim. Look at all the issues the mk2 had with the software update after the scandal hit. Most people had failing egrs soon after and reduced mpgs. Not the car you signed up for whether new or used. I can see the mk3 having the same issues with this software update. It is supposed to alter the warm up cycle and reduce the impact on the catalytic convertor for higher mileage vehicles. All that and not reducing the economy or performance. Why bother with the update as the catalytic convertor is a consumable item, so if it fails or emmisions are high then you fit a new one. More to it than what we are being told as a consumer.

The General Public including non car drivers are the ones that suffer from vehicles Emissions, and the value of used TDI's is pretty high and certainly not suffering from depreciation because of the Emissions Cheat VW Group had on vehicles. Maybe give a cash donation to the Heart & Lung type charities from the saving you had on low VED and good fuel consumption you got with your TDI's.

I think most folk around the 1.6TDI engines are feeling somewhat sceptical around having software updates after the EURO5 debarcle. This isn't the same issue, its a problem whereby NOx levels maybe too high and a firmware update to the ECU will actually improve mpg. Skoda UK are trying to head off failures of the DPF and Catalyst early and this can be performed by tweaks to the engine. I know that people don't like change and some folk feel that Skoda will turn their 1.6TDI Ferrari into a 1.6TDI Snail-Mobile. The good news as this is a firmware change (as opposed to firmware change and a wholesale change of the injector ports for the EURO5 emissions scandel for the 1.6TDI engines), it can in theory be rolled back if the owner feel strongly enough and asks their dealer. Skoda UK have tested this change, so this isn't a case of testing on your customers.

Have just just spoken to Skoda customer services apparently it was a decision not to use postcodes but to use coordinates instead. What I do not understand is why they think that’s better, when asked for my address I asked if he wanted my coordinates, guess what, he wanted a postcode.
  49. @Colin170CR - so i went away, much to my fear, and put some numbers against it!! wat was i thinking?!?!? lol end of day, it wasn't too bad. all up, over the 3.5 yrs, i've spent a total of $7k on the above modifications. most were cheap, small mods - but there were lots of them, so they added up. the "significant ones" were:- - Rieger side-skirts (total cost just under $1K to ship it across the world and have it painted. i fitted it myself) - Sportline rear diffuser (cost $420 in total. the shipping alone, cause Superskoda, cost more than half of the actual diffuser itself!! i fitted it myself) - Roof wrapped Gloss Black vinyl (cost me $450 to get it professionally wrapped) - Rear sway bar (cost me $330) - Eibach Prokit Lowering Springs (supply and fit cost me $900) - Smart Light Assist (SLA) retrofit (parts cost me $800. sold my original headlights. so total cost was just over $400) i've saved on a lot of labour costs by doing/fitting many things myself. i also invested in a VCDS cable, costing me $330, but i've done many many codings over the years. p.s. the doctor's don't want to see me - they say there is no hope for me!!!! p.p.s yes, planning to keep Gandalf for a while. we're both going to go grey n old together
