  1. I found a new spot for watching the sunset
  2. Hutchy fitted it originally then when darkside had the car last year they used mine to redesign it and make it a better fit.
  3. *update* Boot liner is here! Also with cut outs for boot nets if that's your thing:

  6. Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well. I am basically writing this post because I had wanted to improve the stance of my VRS since I bought it (18 months ago), but I'd always get put off by the thought of ruining the car and then chicken out of it. I didn't want to spend hundreds of pounds trying to make it look better if it was going to be scraping over speed bumps, the ride quality was going to be worse, the handling was going to be worse, I wouldn't be able to fully load it without the wheels rubbing, etc, etc... but so many people were seeming to do it without any issues, I thought bugger it I'm gonna do it too! Well all I can say is, if you are currently thinking of lowering/wheel spacering your VRS and you have the same reservations I had.... just do it! It's the best thing I've done to the car. Okay, maybe the pedal box & remap were the best thing, but this is definitely up there! The car looks so much better, ride quality is much improved in my opinion (even my wife agrees, and she hates cars and the fact I fiddle with them all the time ), and I'd say it definitely handles better. I'm so so pleased with the results and I urge you all to do it if you are thinking about it. Lowering springs are H&R 40mm and the wheel spacers are H&R Trak+ 20mm at the rear and 10mm at the front. Probably could have got away with more on the front, but I was being cautious and wanted a fully functioning car on the awful backroads around where I live. So this is the car when I bought it... And this is it after lowering & spacers... The difference is so subtle, yet massive at the same time, I love it! Here's another shot before lowering and spacers... And then after... Here's one where it had been lowered, but I hadn't put the spacers on yet... And then after the spacers ... And from the front, this one is with the car lowered but the spacers hadn't been fitted yet... And then with the spacers fitted... I'm so so pleased with how it turned out and I hope this puts your minds at ease if any of you are thinking of lowering but are unsure like I was. Any questions just give me a shout PS - You can still load it up and go to the tip no bother too!
  7. Every car forum has lots of horror stories, if you took everything on board you'd never buy any car. Try reading the customer dissatisfaction reports by Which? and the JD Power surveys on the likes of Land Rover, Vauxhall, BMW, Mercedes, Renault...
  8. This post might help.. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/310872-skoda-yeti-paddleshift-retro-fit-pre-post-facelift/
  9. Easily configurable on such systems, you could probably import your custom picture as well. You can learn more about the headunit here: https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-zenec-ze-nc2010_p-23719.htm
  10. What is interesting is both the German owner and @VAGProfhad rev. B and 1668. I do wonder if anyone with rev A would be able to get it too or if more work is required for rev A.
  11. Have had exactly same problem with Karoq purchased on 1st June. Spoke to Skoda UK - their response -no one else has complained! EMailed skoda hq - confirmed above comments from previous posts. Tried to print but only get pictures and no text. My wife and I have been staring at web manual taking manual notes - seriously annoying and unnecessary. Surely if Skoda have uploaded this manual to their website it should be available in a downloadable and printable PDF form Yesterday reverted to dealer and quoted Skoda UK's accredited status in the Motor Ombudsman (.org) - Code of Practice for new cars - Clause 2.2 namely " you will receive a copy of the manufacturers handbook with your car.....replacement copies of which will be available from the accredited business for a reasonable period thereafter" As soon as I mentioned this he knew exactly what I was alluding to. From my profile you can observe that I bought a pre-registered car and the owners handbook had been removed to the dealer/owner and not returned on my collection. Within 15 mins dealer said have retrieved handbook from service area and sending 1st class post to us. Fingers crossed but this does imply paper copies are available. Will repost if this is successful. If dissappointed I think there is a legal case against Skoda or if there are sufficient number of complaints then a PR campaign. Simply - not CLEVER - readable paper owners manuals rank far higher than extra cup/drink holders, umbrellas and ice scrapers IMHO Nick (tonks)
  12. Thanks, I think you’re probably right. Almost certainly an Apple issue, not that they’ll ever admit it 😡 Similarly, browsing the internet with any browser on my iPad, for the past year or more whenever you hit the back arrow you returned to the top of the previous page and not the point you were previously viewing. Just over a week ago the error corrected itself. I wonder how.
  13. Root- any 40/30/20 ( and sometimes 50)- I always keep inside the figure on the "lollipop" . It also helps to recognise "cash ready" areas ,where the WRI will make complaints, and keep an eye on local papers to find new "cash generator sites". I'd expect to see a new rash of enforcement coming soon as the WRI start spouting and the speed folk find funds are drying up. Never forget, it's not all about road safety, but finding employment for all those blokes put out to pasture as HMG UK LTD couldn't afford to employ.
  14. Yip and it shouldn't matter because the bolts all have covers on and look the same but you just know...
  15. Sorted. We have 12v on pin 1. Main dealer replaced the fuse for slot 10 in slot 9 and in the dim light under the dash I couldn't see the slots, so pulled and checked the fuse far right thinking that it was fuse 10! Now awaiting the delivery of the replacement display.
  16. Very nice. I will have to tackle my Scout this weekend before we go on holiday next week. My OCD with the wheels has me putting the locking wheel bolts opposite the tyre valve and having the flat of the arrow in the badge perpendicular to said bolt hole. Needless to say, I hate wheels where the spokes and bolt holes don't line up in any way!
  17. Regarding the disintegrating socket set plastic liners, 40 years ago a younger friend of mine used to turn them upside down and fill the void with mortar, after that they were indestructible but rather heavy. I have recently followed his inspiration but with expanding foam, a denser expanding PU foam adhesive applied from a Pro Gun (very good for controlled slow application of tiny beads of foam) to be precise. A lot of the cheap tools I buy now on the internet come in blister display packs, most are only strong enough to survive the transport in a jiffy bag but when reinforced by the expanding foam become very strong, I also save food packaging boxes as some here are as strong and good as Tupperware (it helps them sell their product) I will cut the tool blister backing to fit inside the margarine tub then foam it in place, it makes a very secure storage container for the tool, a recent example was a brake caliper wind back tool.
  18. No, it's what I remember that particular set to be called... and it is: see attached. As @rum4mo rightly says they were all bi-hex. It's all looking a bit sad - the replacement "hex" sockets are up with son-in-law, as is the other complete Elora set which was my father-in-laws. I'm tempted by the Facom set for £12 from toolstation, just to fill it up. Regards, John H
  19. No one will be able to say for sure without inspecting! However, that camshaft correlation error is not a good sign corresponding with a rough running and showing at cold start. Presumably you never had the timing chain and tensioner changed out to latest revisions? If it is the timing chain slipped, you could be a lucky one without damage or just some valve damage. Or it could be toast.. I would not start again, more damage could ensue. If you a mechanically experienced or wish to diy it, then you will need to engage in some careful diagnosis that does not cause further damage (assuming the engine can be recovered). If you want to "see if the timing chain tensioner has completely let go, with the engine off, you could remove the upper timing chain cover and check for loose or flapping chain. But what next. Probably best is to take it to someone who has the capability of doing the inspection, diagnosis and a repair at a reasonable price. I would add to that that they would need to have experience on this engine. The engine intake / valves and variable timing are not for the feint hearted
  20. Briskie friendly version of which part of your anatomy gets no protection!
  21. Thought I should post some pics of the end result of my big TLC weekend. Not the best photos but a great shine. My OCD resulted in each centre cap facing towards the valve stem haha
  22. This might be a failed USB socket.its rare for them to fail but they can do. However, that requires replacement of hardware. Suggest two things to do first: a factory reset -Car-Settings-Factory reset and the second is a firmware update as your Amunsden will probably have old firmware which will cause issues (anything older than 0478 is junk).
  23. Seriously, that's the height of laziness. Shoddy workmanship. Take it back to the garage and ask them to fix and make sure they don't use Zip ties either.
  24. There is more lighting lately. I noticed the other night that my MY21 has door pocket illumination front and rear (in addition to ambient lighting, interior door handle illumination and projected 'SKODA' onto the ground when you open the front doors)
  25. To try and answer your questions. The MY21 AUS Spec variants are not detuned. They are essentially the same engines as the MY18-19 sold worldwide and are therefore not Euro6 compliant (as AUS is not yet formally party to Euro6). Consequently, Skoda for whatever reason, has continued to mate those engines with the previous 6 Speed DQ250 DSG, as per the MY18-19 and probably noting that the Euro compliant engines with the PPF have to be paired with the newer 7 Speed DQ380 DSG. My understanding is that once the current stock of non-Euro6 engines and 6 Speed gearboxes runs out at the factory, AUS will receive the same Euro6 engines and 7 Speed DQ380 DSGs as everyone else. I think this is a one-off for MY21 for Australia only. I have noticed that the MY21 DQ250 has had a little change in tuning compared to my previous MY19 6 Speed. Most of the hesitation on initial application of throttle has been removed and it seems to hold 2nd and 3rd gears much longer (in D setting) than the previous DSG did. Overall, I like the changes there. As for the 0-100 KMH times, Skoda (and Audi and VW) seem to choose figures almost at random. I have detected no fall-off in performance on the MY21 compared to my previous MY19. In fact in the back of the owner's manual for my MY21, that stats for the non Euro6 engine (ie. the one I have) indicate a 5.2 second time and also 400Nm of torque, even though the MY21 brochure continues to list 5.8 seconds. Who knows?! I've taken a photo from the manual, see below: Some interesting figures there for Euro6 compliant vehicles. No sure what to make of that? So, overall, no drop-off and when the JB1 is added, it feels very rapid indeed. There is no Performance Monitor on my MY21 vehicle which has MIB III, unlike the previous MIB II I had on my MY19. The newer system also continues to be laggy and prone to freezing up. I never had a single problem with my previous MIB II. The rear windows and rear screen come with factory dark tint privacy glass. The front windows I have had tinted to match the rears at around T20. The throttle controller increases the sensitivity of the accelerator and removes the 'dead' travel on the accelerator that virtually all manufacturers engineer in as you push down on the accelerator. Hope this helps.
  26. Been there, and got the bobble hat!
  27. Oil is retained in the filter until air is entered when unscrewing it. It is rather like dipping a straw or pipette into liquid and placing finger over the top of the opening. Liquid is held in the straw or pipette until your finger is released and the liquid pours out. There is no one-way valve in the filters
  28. Picking it up tomorrow. £235 to insure it was a pleasant surprise
  29. If you mean the door card, then there are screws around the edge and two in the handle and one hidden behind the speaker/window switch.
  30. Masking tape around rubbers/edges where you don't want polish to get is also a good thing too. Im loving this discussion thread
  31. It's been a while since I posted in this thread. Not much has changed other than new wheels. Genuine Porsche 987 alloys, 18x8 & 18x9 had them painted in a custom Porsche grey with loads of red flake so the colour changes drastically in the sun. So here's a few pictures to spam you with...
  32. As above, the factory coating on a MK2 octavia is very good - I'd say you're more at risk of making a moisture trap if you seal over the existing protection. I'd personally get it in the air, drop the trays off, and do localised repairs to any damages bits of the rust proofing with something along the lines of POR-15, or whatever the fashionable one is at the minute, basically thick enamel paint. If you don't mind an off-brand, the metal paint in Lidl is very good.
  33. I got this one - https://shop.parks.uk.com/products/skoda-plastic-boot-mat
  34. Used DTD in the past and saved £2k on the best Carwow deal. Will be using them again. 1. The car would be supplied by a dealer a long way away from me - but then again why should that matter? They deliver so why would I care? - You can, or you can pay the rail fare (in the great scheme of things what's £100 (max)) 2. Frankly I’ve never heard of them before and don’t know anyone who has used them. Has anyone used them for a Kodiaq? Yes 3. How I might end up dealing with small queries if the supplying dealer is 600m away from me. I suppose I just call and hope they’ll help over the phone - but am I kidding myself? What types of queries? 4. And what happens for warranty and servicing in reality when the supply dealer is so far away - will my local dealership show any interest if they didn’t supply the car? I presume they will want the aftercare business but maybe I’m kidding myself…? They will.
  35. I'm waiting on a 280 ordered through DTD, quite happy with the DVD experience, very helpful and professional. Only 'fly in the ointment' is the Skoda dealer supplying the motor who, I might add, gets quite good reviews online and they call me and give regular updates about the build progress. The price from DTD includes delivery to my house which is 130 miles away - I was happy to collect it myself and by using a very early train the ticket would cost less than £20. However the dealer is quite intransigent and despite having to pay someone a days wage to drive the motor over, put at least 20 litres of fuel in and buy a open return ticket (£80) back they won't cover my £20 ticket - the choice is I fetch it or they deliver it - same price! Strange business practice I'd say. But other than that, a positive vote for Drive the Deal. As for my local dealer, they were over £500 shy and wouldn't budge despite me being a existing/returning customer - kept insisting the DTD price was somehow incorrect.
  36. Excuse me resurecting this old thread. How did you manage to fit it? Did you just take it to Darkside for them to do it? I'm picking one up at some point and was interested in doing it myself. Thanks
  37. Echo what the others have said. I used a broker for my Kodiaq: the local dealers were unwilling to match the price (policy set by 'head office' on max discount) but were quite happy to service the car. My broker wasn't DTD but a colleague used them, no problems, totally happy with the service.
  38. Another little job done.
  39. Little drive on Saturday.
  40. Some useful simple information videos for ordinary owners. The information will also be in the driver's instructions handbook that came with the car the Owner's Manual and available at (as at 4/7/2021). – https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models Not all viewers to this site will know as much about the cars or the models as many members do so some useful videos with simple information for ordinary owners. I've no connection with the video maker, just another viewer, I just see these videos and helpful and informative. - These videos give the info in a very clear and simple way - possibly not everyone will like the simple and humorous style of presentation but the useful info is still there. The channel isn't a money maker for the maker/presenter, just look at the number of views, so can be viewed as just what it is useful info* - and just possibly there might even be something some more experienced owners might have forgotten. *ETA: An immediate example at the start of the first video, I never knew the parcel shelf could be slid behind the rear seats like that, I'd always taken it out and put it in the shed where it gets in the way and forgotten about until my wife went to the boot or either of us the shed.* HTH some, cheers, Nigel.

  42. so many amazing superbs here, im amazed they are all just superb. Here is mine, bought it a week ago, still getting to know her 2.0 dsg, 110kwh, 85k km. First car this big, amazed by it and getting a lot of positive commentaries. Lots of work on it, but it depends on finances. Like wheels, and stuff like that, but will enjoy it along the way Cheers from Croatia
  43. Official release from skoda: In this case, it is sufficient to open and close the driver's door. This will establish a new connection to the phone. It may be necessary to manually select the phone in the Infotainment. The new update will solve it ;-)
  44. I'm in the "Never going back to that dealer" camp too. It's going to be a pain as I went for a VW Tiguan to replace it and it means I'll need to drive to another garage around 25 miles away from home instead of the one just down the road. However, they messed me around so much (and for so long) and added a lot of unnecessary stress to the whole process. I'd rather a bit of inconvenience than give them another penny.
  45. 1 point
I'm delighted with the much lower noise levels on the 215/50 18" Bridgestones than the 225/45 18" Michelins were on my Octavia vRS, even allowing for the profile difference, and especially so at high speeds.
  46. *Update* I've just returned from being measured up for the boot liner (estate) with the lovely people at Titan covers. Going back in a couple of weeks for a test fitting. If anyone does want one from titan, I suggest you order soon as the wait times might be longer than normal (I think they said around 20 working days). Awesome family run business. The gear they produce looks like sturdy well-made stuff all made in the factory here in Leicestershire. *Disclaimer* aware the above might sound a bit like an advert: they did give me a coffee and will be getting a free boot liner, in exchange for them getting the pattern of the Mk4 estate boot
  47. I have Waze on everytime I drive, even when I dont have a route planned. I can see streets ahead of me if traffic is slowing down or halted. Also it warns me of accidents, speed traps and other obstacles. Data is user generated.
