  1. Do not dismiss the 2.0 TSi - my experience is that it is far more economical in the real world, if driven with restraint and common sense, than the 'official' figures. It will also give you all of the performance any sane person would need, even when fully-loaded. And remember: the relatively small differences in fuel consumption are second order compared to the overall running cost of the car ie depreciation, insurance, servicing etc
  2. Thanks to @varaderoguy for planting some trees: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=610531179c3198238d089a8c A little late for earth day in my reply, but what the heck: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=611a99d3d372d223665bf533
  3. You see if you don't do something every month, when you do finally sit down to catch up, it feels like a mamoth task. Had a really tough May, June and July. Physically, emotionally & mentally. For some reason I woke up today and gave a hoot again So anything today is a win. Here is June's Trees, your trees: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=611a9902d372d223665bf4ad
  4. The warranty side of things is a concern. I think the best bet for now is to leave it with the 'Mit Silikat' header and think it through a bit more. Cheers guys.
  5. You may want to think about rubber mats, so much easier to keep clean and "possibly" aid sound reduction. I have OE Skoda mats, not cheap but a perfect fit. Sold the originals to part fund (50%) the new rubber mats .
  6. We wait months an months for an Binky episode, and 2 come out within a week of each other! Episode 36.
  7. Some info for other Android Auto users..... I had issues after upgrading from an S7 to S20+. One of the main differences between the S7 and S20+ is the change from USB B to USB C connections, meaning I had to buy new cables. Initially, with the new cables, the Android Auto connection was fine but then it would drop out intermittently, e.g. going down a bumpy road. Sometimes the connection would come back, sometimes not. I tried another cable but no difference. The cables I had bought were mid price range, so I decided to try a more expensive cable for 3A charging and Data Sync. Hey presto no more dropping out. May the the tolerances on the new cable are tighter and fit better in the phone socket. Is this a case of you get what you pay for?
  8. @xmanthank you for your concern. I took the cover off and can physically see a plastic cap of the radar is broken off, sitting in the well, and the brackets are bent and plastics brackets have snapped off. I don't know what else could be wrong without seeing the extent of how it's damaged underneath but on the surface (covers on) it looks like nothing happened. I am documenting the conversations but I cannot record an admission of guilt without explcitly stating I'm recording (for it to be admissible) especially since he so desperately wants to do it privately I don't think he will until a last resort. The car is insured, that much I know. I am playing it safe, informed my insurers saying I'll let you know what I want doing..here's to people being honest and owning up to it when the time comes.
  9. Just seen the darndest thing in the sky on the way home this evening......
  10. Ordered my 60 on 22/06 and am collecting it on the 18/08
  11. For instance, ask CalMac when they last carried a vehicle with that registration on any of the outer Isles services that require booking.
  12. Yep, got it in one! Bought them off of the 'net for just shy of £38. I reckon they smarten it up a bit.
  13. What brand are those wind deflectors? Team Hekos?
  14. Well, here's all of the fabulous things I have done to the car since the last post: nothing. absolutely nothing. The car is as it was, except with more fuel and in need of a wash. Snapped this pic today when it finally dried up at a wee bit near me! Also, I am aware of the fact that some of the photos are broken, it won't let me edit the posts to include them as the issue has been rectified on my website. Photographs have been fixed.
  15. 1.5tsi has now been for 67000km. Had it from the factory. E-tec only for like 300km. ACT on both are quite the same, expect e-tec shuts the engine off when coasting.
  16. Ok, thanks for the information. Someone told me that the coolant sensor could cause that. Is that true?
  17. If the problem is caused by a clogged air filter, the smoke won't stop immediately. It could take about 50 miles for the smoke to slowly stop. Of course, the problem might not be caused by a clogged air filter. But it's the easiest and cheapest thing to check first. Don't run the engine without an air filter, as that let's grit into the engine which causes permanent engine damage.
  18. Bob Flavin gave Skoda / VW notice of the issues, as did many many owners like in the Karoq section. But VW Group / Skoda denied denied and denied again there were any issues, then they did software updates and another software update and as far as they are concerned it is a 'Driver error', not a VW coc-kup.
  19. Hi ! I wouldnt be doing the job for them just take it back they need to make it right !
  20. just pop down this little hill, through the gate near tge hedgerows and then a short dink up the hill the other side... see... no problems... other than the incredibly steep bits, and no tractions on the rocks or in the peaty soil under the heather... and, the other pic was taken from the trail at top of the hill, just to the right hand side, about a 1km of pedalling away.
  21. For a good while I thought there was a lose connection within the car itself somewhere, there was one particular bump what would always disconnect it, but then realised when moving the phone it would occasionally disconnect. The cable itself is a mid range one so works 99% of the time, but has excellent timing when I'm using google maps and about to hit a serious of directions within a city, and bam, blank screen. It got pretty bad last week, wouldn't connect most of the time but I spotted there was an Android Auto update which may have introduced a bug. There was another update over the weekend which seemed to have resolved that.
  22. FWIW there's a "Swing" infotainment in my Rapid, and it has all the display options our Fabia SE has, except they are sequenced with the button on the end of the indicator. Attached are some pix - it may be worth comparing with yours. A very long press on the top right "setup" hard button gets you to these menu options. From the Status of MU the only ones that returned a value gave 7080. The person most likely to know what is needed and how to do it is @pab567 Regards John H P.S. Also, it's possible the display area between the dials on the "S" is lacking - it certainly was with the MK2 Fabia
  23. Hi Gary, it's all beyond me, software and hardware. Perhaps a search on the existing/previous threads/forms here might already have the info, or putting up a thread here with a more specific thread title to attract those more specific to the subject. All the details of the dot matrix are in the Driver's Handbook (whatever it's called), it's display on my wife's car at least is set via the menus in the infotainment screen/buttons. To scroll through the dot matrix display you use the scroll wheel on the steering wheel. I don't know but can't imagine how you'd operate the programs even if they are dormant and hidden but I don't do any computer games so have no idea of alternative settings. I'd imagine there would be secondhand infotainment units available with the extra buttons but how much that'd help I wouldn't know. That's me out of ideas, sorry.
  24. Yeah. At first i was worried about me not getting it. Dealer confirmed this from somewhere. There was even false information in the accessory list, which claimed that it needs the wiper.
  25. 2 litre VRS are OK on 95 I recall, it was the Mk 1 1.8 litre VRS and the Twincharge VRS 1.4 litre that wanted the 98 octane or better I recall. Not sure about the 280 hp 2 litre Superb should run on with its higher specific output. Occasional tank of Momentum seemed like a fair idea when feeling flushed.
  26. I've been a short trip this a.m., and checked the level after 10 minutes at the destination. Level is 1/2 way between max & min. I will check again this p.m., after a longer journey and longer delay before checking. going back over my records from taking ownership, the first 12 months required 1/2 a litre at 5,983 miles. (Mileage on purchase, 19,285). This corresponds with a reasonable consumption > 10k miles/litre. That year was a mix of mainly short trips locally and several longer journeys to the south coast from Rochdale. Last year, owing to covid, I only did 2,278 miles. So far this year, owing to my wife being unwell, I have done 2068 miles, most of that in the last couple of months, to and from hospitals. The car is running well, returning exactly 50mpg on the 2nd screen, i.e., over about the last 1500 miles. I don't think I have a problem after all - just confused by the low mileage since the plague, and not checking properly on a level surface. The most useful information for me, (being a bit old school), is checking after a short drive and a 10 - 15 minute delay. Back in the 60s it was always advised to check before starting the engine, to ensure all the oil had drained into the sump. BUT the oil was much more viscous, and took a while to drain down. (Remember Duckham's 20-50?)
  27. Its a great idea to have a set of rubber mats for when we go walking or the beach, the mats get dirty every time you go somewhere like that. But I do like a bit of luxury, the 1200g per M2 from Ebay are excellent, really thick pile and wear well. Still look new. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183967062685
  28. 1 point
If all you want is a spacesaver wheel to get you home then here is my recommendation (based on my own experience with 18 inch wheels) 1. First ask on here if anyone has one for sale !! I missed a chance here that would have saved some time and effort. 2. You'll need the spacesaver wheel, a jack and brace kit, and a foam insert to support the floor properly. Skoda dealers will charge around £210 for the 18 inch wheel set. That includes everything you need and the tyre is brand new, unused obviously. 3. If you want to get it cheaper then head over to eBay. You should be able to find an 18 inch spacesaver wheel (just the wheel and tyre) for around £35. This will be a used item but query the seller and you should be able to determine that it will have plenty of tread for a spare. Note that all the VAG use the same spacesavers so an 18inch wheel for a VW Golf should fit the Superb and so on. The 18inch Superb wheel uses a 125/70 R18 tyre and the rim has the code "1K0601027B" stamped on it (the 16 inch wheel will have a different tyre size and code). 4. You can get the full jack, wheel brace and foam insert kit (but NOT the actual wheel) brand new from Kopacek Superb 18inch Wheel Change Kit here for around 60 Euros. That makes the whole kit less than £100. If you want to beef up the wheel brace with something that has a little more leverage then you'll need a 17mm socket on the end of it. Don't forget to ensure you have the little plastic "tweezers" thingy to remove the plastic wheel nut covers - that's not included in the Superskoda kit. And I highly recommend removing all the wheels and putting a touch of copper ease or similar around the inner centre of the wheel where it sits on the hub to prevent the wheel from sticking to the hub due to corrosion. That's all.
  29. Ultimately, this depends on how you feel about the silica bag issue. As always, the question to address is "What is the problem I am trying to solve." If the problem is a leaking silica bag, then get rid of the silica bag. If the problem is having to pay for the damage caused by a leaking silica bag, then presumably you are good to go right now, but as that warranty won't last forever, and the likelihood of a bag failure increases with time, then IMO all you're doing is hoping you silica bag fails during your warranty, which seems like an unsatisfactory solution to me. However, if you plan to ditch the car just before the warranty ends, then you should be protected against the cost (if not the inconvenience) of the repair. So I'd get rid of the bag. In fact I did get rid of the bag. (Revealed preference beats stated preference every time. )
  30. Ive only had the car for 6 months (2015 280 with 70k now), the occurence isn't very frequent unless Ive open it a few times in a short space of time, it will start beeping and the tailgate wont go down. I just manually push it down and the next time i use the remote to open it, it works!
  31. I remove them, swing and slap them together outdoors, sometimes smack them with the flat of my hand (if I'm in the mood) to dislodge the worst of the stuff on them (not that they're ever that bad), then simply bring them into the house and run the vacuum over them, like they were carpet. That way I get the vacuum action, plus the bush sweeping action. Works pretty well and is very quick. Cleaning the fitted carpet in the car is far more of a faff than cleaning the mats, IMO.
  32. Just booked the car into VW Group specialists Swindon on the 13th of September for a full Helix clutch kit including a new DMF. He is also fitting a braided hose that goes to the slave cylinder that allows more fluid through and gives the clutch pedal a more OEM feel. Will report my findings once it has all been fitted.
  33. This is one of quite a few threads which you can search for in this forum.
  34. The wheel bolts are M14x1.5x27 and will fit all Fabias and Polos with a PCD 5/100 10 WHT001812 wheel bolt M14X1,5X27 http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/FAB/year/2006/drive_standart/453/hg_ug/601/subcategory/601010/part_id/2543667/lang/e
  35. No problem mate, I only added the pic a bit later
  36. Hi Guys, Many thanks for the replies so far it's much appreciated. So to clarify things a bit further the car does not have a multifunction steering wheel and it also does not have a rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk to select various options (it does however have a rocker switch on the top of the same stalk for the variable intermittant wiper speed). It has the swing type infotainment system as shown in the picture earlier in the thread (thanks johnh510 for that as it shows nicely the steering wheel and also the dash with the temperature on display). I cannot see any option within the infotainment system that allows you to alter what shows up on the dash display and I'm not familiar with a maxidot display unless that's what is fitted to my wifes 2019 Octavia SEL. If the only way to obtain the optional information on the dash is to start upgrading various parts of the car (infotainment + other modules/components etc.) then no doubt it's going to be expensive in which case I won't bother but I will wait until someone can confirm what's possible. I do want to have a towbar fitted in the near future and know that the car did not come from the factory with towbar preparation so is that also likely to require some sort of upgrade to achieve the functionality? Thanks again chaps, Gary
  37. Tough words @rum4mo I'm always open when I've said something wrong. I agree that the silica is there to help with the lubicity of the coolant. I've deleted my previous posting. I'm not perfect. I was thinking about something else and got confused. My apologies if there was confusion.
  38. In the panel's gauge is one notch above 90 which means it's 91-92 'C but with another gauge (digital for example) you could measure it exactly and it could be one click less. This car should working beyond this point (as some French cars do) but not in too low temperatures. I have Mahle 80-85 a 10 points scale as 82-92 will raise the fuel consumption especially on traffic with high temperatures as we have here in Mediterranean area because the fan may never stop working (personal experience).
  39. From Czech Republic to Croatia with 1.4 tsi 110kw, very pleasant suprise
  40. Thule used them on every car, excellent pieces of kit
  41. I've bought a chinese multimedia box which lets you watch netflix, iplayer etc, play android games and use any other android apps you would like to install on it. for some reason on the enyaq you need to delete it from your bluetooth devices when you stop using it or there will be no audio next time you try to use it. Not a major issue as it detects it quickly the next time you plug it in to the USB port. Very handy if you're at a charger or (as I was here) waiting for someone.
  42. The Fabia Mk1 (non vRS) foglights generally go tatty as the coating on the reflector bowl deteriorate readily. The way i look at it is this. A new pair of non genuine ones will cost you, as you say £60. The time it will take to seperate the old units and do whatever it is you propose to do with foil, then re-seal them will easily be more than £60's worth, so buy a replacement set. To do a proper job you'll need to have the reflector bowls re-metalised, which as i know full well will cost you approx £120 for a specialist to do them. If you are hell bent on splitting them, easiest way is with a hot air gun, as you can localise the heat better than in the oven
  43. Forget it i found it
  44. It gets worse! I took the plunge and bought a new washer bottle. Took the wheel off and removed enough of the wheel arch liner to give me access to remove the bottle. What a sod to remove!! Just 3 nuts but one was virtually impossible to see let alone unscrew. But with patience and extensions to my socket I managed it. The bottle separated from the funnel and came out. Trying to get the funnel out from the top was testing my patience but out it came. Fitting the new bottle went quite well (with blue tac on the nut that was difficult to see). Trying to get the new funnel in via the top was difficult. I used very hot water to make it more malleable. I also took off the square thing (power output?) attached to the headlight to give me more room. Eventually got it in and attached to the bottle. Before refitting the liner I checked the bottle. Filled it up and guess what? IT STILL LEAKED! Closer examination revealed that the leak was from the washer pump and not the bl**dy bottle. I dashed out and bought a new pump. It took just under 2 minutes to fit and the leak was gone. So I didn't need a new bottle after all. Grrrr. Wheel arch liner and wheel back on and all is well. BTW, is it me or is the 19" wheel somewhat heavy?? It is a sod to lift up and line up to secure it. My tip to assist that is to lower the jack to make it not too far to lift and to remove the plastic centre thing from the wheel and lift the wheel onto the hub.
  45. Life is always better with a VRS in it! If you buy a lesser model you will have times that you will regret it. With the miles you are doing I would defiantly go for one.
  46. i dont understand how the seller cant show the list of options? A dealer will make the configuration with you. The specs on his system are the latest. Everything on his sheet and order will be what you get. The only difference is wether a color will change for MY2022 or maybe get lucky with an extra new upgrade. What i know is that the scala 2021 will be the same as the 2022 only more expensive from august onwards. The color quartz grey will not be manufactured or guaranteed by the dealer as it is possible it will be a light grey color like the audi has (not that good honestly). I hope this info will help you further.
  47. Yes it is possible. You will likely require the wiring harness and it will need to be coded to your vehicle. By default Scala's and Kamiq's come with lowline RVC with washer jet, but you can get the highline RVC which includes dynamic guidelines and a better picture, it will have an extra wire connecting it to the CANBUS. Here are a few links to different companies selling the kit. https://www.carcommunications.co.uk/genuine-skoda-scala-highline-reversing-rear-view-camera-kit https://www.kufatec.com/en/skoda/scala/scala-nw1/complete-rear-view-camera-for-skoda-scala-nw1-43815
  48. Yes they did but then recently changed to G12Evo, which is what they used looking up that part number.
  49. Driving as an art and for pleasure is a no-no in these eco aware times. The most strident eco warriors won’t be happy until private cars are outlawed and we use bicycles and foot for journeys and public transport for longer journeys. That maybe fine if you live in an urban environment but those of us who live in country areas need a private car to survive, of course, that won’t matter because we should car share or car pool. Freedoms gradually but surely being eroded on the altar of eco, zero carbon beliefs and big brother telling you what you can and can’t do. Now in my 70’s I realise I lived in the free times and driving was fun. Sadly no more and the country will be the worse for it.
