  1. A fine summers evening. One more tonight then thunder and bumbling time.
  2. Looks like you've got a great deal there.
  3. I've got my car back after the service yesterday and they've replaced the bracket and calibrated the front assist so it's all back as it should be. They charged £60.00 for the initial diagnostic and £36.00 for replacing the bracket and the calibration, so it cost me a lot less than I thought it would.
  4. So Cash in Hand at a VAT Registered establishment will be a 'Nod as good as a wink to the blind donkey'. Part of the Shadow Economy that exists and is cheating the Treasury / HMRC / UK population. You are not supposed to broadcast it. No receipts, no records and really you have no comeback unless that same person deals with it.
  5. Hmmm! I'm not a pro at ETKA, but it looks like the part number is either 5E5955711B which is £169.39 (VAT included) as of today, or it could be 5E5955711C which is £90.83 (VAT included) as of today, you'd think C superseeded B but it hasn't on this occasion. Hopefully you need the latter, but I'd recommend ringing your local Skoda dealership (or any, price should be the same wherever) and ask to speak to the parts department then ask them directly, they'll ask for your reg plate then they can get the vin number and will know exactly which one fits yours. I suspect you have talked to them by phone but i usually ring reception and ask to go to the parts department, I then say can you give me the price and part number of the "rear motor wiper", then listen to them eat something on the phone as they seem to be fed whilst on the phone, they'll ask for your reg and should give you P/N and price. Hopefully that helps, I can see if I can find the Erwin document on how to remove it if you fancy?
  6. 11% added in 50 minutes. 13% in 60. Other local TESCO have 22kWh chargers FREE and 50kWh for 28 pence kWh. LIDL also with 7,22 and 50 kWh chargers. Regened more in 4 miles of driving.
  7. We went to Bedgebury Pinetum on an absolutely glorious day today. Had to sit in the shade for our anti pasti lunch as the Sun was so strong. It was lovely and peaceful and the view was nice: Gaz

I have been modifying my cars for the last 20 years, having purchased a variety of British, German and Japanese vehicles including some JDM special editions. The modifications ranged from simple remaps to adding turbochargers or swapping engines from different models. The Superb is our family car and, thus, I was looking at modifications that would not affect the way the car behaved, so hard or overly low suspension, extreme visual changes, loud exhausts or anything that would seriously compromise reliability was not an option. The first modification was to be a tuning box from a company I used in the past. I will not mention the name as I did run into some problems with it and I do not wish this post to sound like a complain towards them as they did their best to rectify the issue, alas unsuccessfully. The tuning box did indeed increase power, as you will see below but it also introduced an uneven idle which was why I had to return it in the end for a refund. The tuning box and the Turbo technics large bore intake hose (http://www.vrsnorthampton.com/en/home/127-mqb-large-bore-intake-hose-and-bell-mouth.html) increased the power to 318.5 hp and 301.6 ft/lbs (323ps and 408nm). The mid-range felt quite a bit more torquey and the car was faster overall. NOTE: Through this process two different dynos have been used, I had the car tested, using the same configuration, on both dynos and the results were within 1% of each other so for the purpose of this thread we will assume the results of these dynos to be comparable, as comparable dynos results can be (this is a story for another thread!). Racelogic vbox was used for measuring the car’s performance as well as a few ¼ mile runs at the drag strip (both Shakespeare Raceway and Santa Pod). SUPERB (280ps) 0-60mph: 5.1s 0-62mph: 5.4s ¼ mile: ??? SUPERB (323ps) 0-60mph: 4.7s 0-62mph: 5.1s ¼ mile: 12.88s @ 106.43 mph The next step was to try an aftermarket intake. I chose to purchase and test the ARP carbon intake as I liked the way it looked and most reviews were positive. This increased power to 331ps which was a welcome increase but not especially good value for money compared to the tuning box and intake hose. After returning the first tuning box I decided to try a different one from a German company, the Racechip Ultimate. Unlike the first box this did not affect the idle negatively while also giving the user the ability to switch between different maps using either an Android phone or an iPhone. The maps are downloaded from the company’s server and, importantly, can be modified to increase or reduce power accordingly depending on each car’s characteristics. After a few tests and tweaks the best result I could get from the Racechip was 340ps. SUPERB (340ps) 0-60mph: 4.6s 0-62mph: 4.9s ¼ mile: ??? After testing both tuning boxes I was offered the opportunity to test another similar box, Burgertuning’s JB1, albeit one that could control, in addition to boost, the car’s fuel pressure. According to other users, this allowed the car to run even more safely and produce more power. In addition to the above, JB1 also allows the user much more control over the car’s boost giving the option to modify the additional boost in increments of 0.2psi based on the RPM range. This provides both a more smooth acceleration as well as more control for manual gearbox users that want to avoid clutch slip. Using MAP 1 at 5.2 (adding 5.2psi to factory boost) the Superb now produced 345ps and acceleration improved more than what the extra 5ps would suggest due to the better power delivery of the JB1 box. SUPERB (345ps) 0-60mph: 4.3s 0-62mph: 4.6s ¼ mile: ??? Having decided to move from Stage 1 to Stage 2 I ordered a Forge intercooler and a BCS/Powervalve downpipe with a sport catalyst. This would allow more power and faster turbo spool while retaining delivery smoothness and keep inlet and oil temperatures down despite the extra boost. The intercooler and downpipe allowed me to use +5.8 psi on the JB1 and also tweak MAP 6 (which allows the user to specify the additional boost for every 1,000RPM range). This increased power to 368ps and made the power delivery much more flexible. Acceleration improved accordingly. SUPERB (368ps) 0-60mph: 4.2s 0-62mph: 4.5s ¼ mile: 12.52s @ 111.05 mph I had decided to stick with stage 2+ until I was offered a hybrid turbo at a price I could not refuse. As I already had a lot of the bolt-ons needed to move to stage 3 I decided to take the plunge. I purchased the Turbo Engineers’ TTE525 turbo and started planning my next steps. VRS Performance installed the turbo and ancillaries. Still using the factory cat-back exhaust but changing the spark plugs to 1 step colder ones (NGK R7437-8 IRIDIUM), the ECU was mapped by MRC tuning, along with the DSG box, producing 453.8hp and 415.7 lb/s (460ps and 564nm). SUPERB (460ps) 0-60mph: 3.7s 0-62mph: 3.9s ¼ mile: 12.02s @ 114.68 mph Next step was a custom cat back exhaust. Not wanting the car to become very loud, being a family vehicle, I decided to choose a professional company that makes custom exhausts for Aston Martins, RS Fabrications. Their systems are of excellent quality while both retaining low noise levels and allowing maximum power with minimal restrictions. This new and improved exhaust in combination with a 5.5 inch catalyst (compared to the 4.5 inch one I had before) designed for the RS3 and TT-RS and tested to more than 600ps allowed the Superb to make a very impressive 519.7ps and 686nm for the drag strip! A more conservative 506ps (500bhp) map is used for everyday purposes to cater for fuel quality variations. An Autotech Uprated High Pressure fuel pump was installed for increased reliability. The ARP air intake was replaced with a VWR 600 intake. The NGK R7437-8 spark plugs were replaced with the NGK R7437-9s, which are a step colder. This allowed for a very impressive 11.46 ¼ mile, a time comparable to the time of a Lamborghini Huracan SUPERB (520ps) 0-60mph: 3.27s 0-62mph: 3.47s ¼ mile: 11.46s @ 120.28 mph FULL UPGRADE LIST Summer wheels Autec Wizard 8x18 ET45 5x112 70 Anthracite + Michelin Pilot Supersport 235/45R18 94 Y ZR Winter wheels Team Dynamic ProRace 1.2 17x7 + Goodyear Ultragrip Performance Gen-1 XL 215/55 R17 98 V MRC remap (DSG+ECU) NGK R7437-9 IRIDIUM Spark Plugs & 06J905110 (K-revision) Coils TTE525 turbo & LEYO Atmospheric Dump Valve (VRS Performance) Forge Intercooler Autotech Uprated fuel pump 034 Motorsport Billet Aluminium MQB Dogbone Mount Insert Paddle shift Extenders Racechip Throttle Response Box Eibach 30mm lowering springs (tracking done by STS tyres) Eibach anti-roll bars (front & rear) Ferodo DS2500 pads Racing Line brake lines BCS (Powervalve) Downpipe with 5.5 inches sports cat RS Fabrications Custom cat-back exhaust - resonated VWR 600 Air Intake Turbo technics large bore intake hose and bell mouth Front and Rear Black Badges
  9. If you order the Skoda factory extended warranty, does this imply they screw it together a bit better?
  10. the front part numbers look fine, but can't help with the rears as there seem to be different variants so best to go by measurement and sight of the pads of the rears
  11. That other forum stuff on average use is interesting. But Briskoda is also a forum, and might use Miles more than km. & there are plenty running 1.5TSI's. People really should read the Owners Manual. The use of more Oil in the first 5,000 km has been there for decades, but this can be true. the May use as much as 0.5 litres per 1,000 km is an arse cover and has been there for years. It is not the acceptable oil use under normal use, what ever that is. Checking cold, and then checking the way the Owners Manual tells you to, as in at Normal Operating Temperature / Hot. not warm. That is after a few minutes, 10 or 15 or 30 is not a 'few'. The cars oil level really needed to be checked and known at 5,000 miles to know if it had the correct quantity in. But then the gent that works at the Skoda Dealership knows that. Who knows if it is using much oil if they have no idea when there was the correct level in. A few of the many threads on 1.5TSI's and oil. then there are all the ones asking what the correct oil is, well that is VW508 00 /509 00, so 0w 20 FS IV. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/461786-oil-consumption http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/468008-oil-burning-karoq http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/496544-burning-oil

  13. @e-Roottoot Thanks. Now to find a good independent, and that's the real minefield, whereas main dealers are like McDonalds - they may be crap but at least you know what you're getting! Any recommendations for north London?
  14. Best find a good independent with all the gear and more than just ideas & ridiculous prices. You get ones with licensed equipment, trained VW Group Techs & Master Techs that have had enough of VW Group Main Dealers. They will have the TPI's / Recall notices, and do the Oil Change of your DSG and do the Haldex Properly and not like a Main Dealership might. @ 6 years old any recalls you might get should be on the VIN checker or the Government Recall Site. Recalls are where a Keeper is contacted, Recall Actions like with Skoda is where you might never be told even if a Main Dealership Services your car. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions There is a thread on Independents i will put this thread there by posting. Or a mod can their way.
  15. Took my Skoda Superb estate 2012 to a (reputable,) independent repair centre for a rear coil spring replacement today. I'd never been to this garage before. When I asked for a receipt for the repair the technician said the garage would waive the VAT if I didn't request a receipt. Apparently the person who normally dealt with receipts was unavailable for a bit because he had another job to do. Is it common for independent garages to do this in similar circumstances? I wasn't expecting this proposition to be put to me because I've not taken many cars in for servicing or repairs over the years.
  16. My Octavia had a power steering software upgrade - because apparently the PS is either electric or electrically assisted. The upgrade was done in order to stop the PS drawing too much power. I believe this was happening when idling in traffic. IMHO the SOS problem, which I experienced 3 times last winter, is due to low voltage. But that opinion is based solely upon error messages coming up on previously owned VW cars, in winter, due to low voltage. So it may be worth asking if your car needs/has had this particular software upgrade. I have had no SOS issues since, but then it is summer. Also last winters lockdowns meant that my own and many other cars remained uncharged for weeks or months during cold weather. Let us know how you get on because SOS false-reporting is still a common problem.
  17. 😃 Happy days ! Covered under my 6th year warranty ! Yup I'll be renewing it in October.
  18. In which case, a change to 225/40/18 will yield a slightly taller sidewall and provide a minor comfort increase but don't expect miracles - the ride in a vRS is going to be harsh unless you throw buckets of cash at the suspension.
  19. Quite probably Mac, but running at 2/3 impulse power I didn't spend too much time looking. Sally was quite taken by the Gruffalo. Being an ugly mug I was more concerned if there was a hungry mouse around! 😁 G
  20. The MK4 gets a newer MIB3 headunit which has both different hardware and software. I've not seen anyone fit a MIB3 style headunit to an earlier car as they've changed quite a lot around how it integrates. That and if the MK4 section is anything to go by, they are full of bugs and issues at the moment
  21. They deflect wind thus increasing the pressure drop at the rear of the vehicle to produce a satisfying booming sound when a rear window is opened. Cheaper for Kevins than big **** off speakers.
  22. Yes it will help the ride but you could also do a bit of research on tyres as some are good at taking the edge off the harshness of the suspension. I have PS4Ss on another car known for hard suspension and it made a big difference to the Pirellis that came off.
  23. You could try a company like this which will take your CDs and convert them for you and send back on a USB stick: https://transfermagic.co.uk/services/cd-conversion/ Never used them, so not making a recommendation and I'm sure there will be other companies offering the same. Would probably be cheaper than buying a dedicated laptop and doing it yourself.
  24. Well, I make it that the 19" wheels have a tyre wall height of only 56.25mm, and the 18s 82mm, which says that your tyre walls are going to be 1.45 times higher. I'd expect that to make a difference, yes.
  25. What year is your car? I’ll have a look
  26. Tesco, Aldi and Asda are the 'free' chargers I have used. The local Aldi have 22kW free charge posts, no app required - literally just turn up and plug in. Tesco are widespread but I find the ones in urban areas are often busy with all points taken. In fact my first need for a rapid charge was in Congleton and tried the Tesco rapid there, but previous user managed to knock it out faffing about trying to disconnect (also a new EV driver). The 4 7kW and 2 22kW posts were all taken. Luckily there was an Osprey charger nearby to use, just a bit more expensive. Asda was useful but run by BP Pulse and I needed to add £5 credit to the app to initiate a charge. So 'free' but I have £5 floating about in BP Pulse's bank account. These are excellent facilities and have probably given me 500+ free miles in the time I've had the car. You do have to wary of parking limits on the car parks and not all locations have the same restrictions e.g. no time limit at my local Aldi but the next one over has a strictly enforced 2 hour limit with £70 penalty charge.
  27. When I sort out a SD card reader for my MacBook (my iMac that has the card reader has crashed), I might give it a try. tom

The engine is in eco mode, but I have set up my own mode and pretty sure the aircon is set to normal. Is a good point though, will check it when I am home this evening and see what mode the aircon is in
  29. Visually wonderful but before seeing i heard it and thought a motorbike was arriving. Just a wonderful sound.

Hi Jamie and welcome to a very friendly, active and informative site. How about a photo of the new motor.
  31. Wowser, that's a cracking shot! Gaz
  32. Was this before Brexit? 😈
  33. No that isn't correct. For the maps I agree you need the original card but for updates and other media you don't.

I had a 2008 Fabia 1.4 TDI without one issue in the time I had it. Not nuts mate just asking for a bit of advice.
  36. +1 on this. It's also worth checking if the lenses are a bit scuffed or fogged. Polishing them back up will improve light output as well.
  37. LED bulbs are not approved for Halogen lamps and you would be another statistic that blinds everybody else. To improve the fabia headlights, first of all get it on a beam setter and set them correctly, made a huge difference to mine..............then purchase some uprated bulbs, I use Philips Extreme power, Osram night breakers are similar and there maybe more. These will also improve the lights significantly.
  38. Oil temperature is usually between 97 to 105. When driving hard it gets to around 110-113. I will also be replacing the valve diaphragm this week and will update the post after driving at least 1000km.
  39. I suspect that the answer to that would be not likely, especially given the required hardware change. I asked if it would be possible to upgrade from Assisted Drive Basic to Plus at a later date and Skoda confirmed that would not be possible, and yet that seems to be more just a software configuration. To be honest, I have area parking view on my current car, and I really don't use it anywhere near enough to warrant the extra cost that Skoda wanted to charge for it.
  40. I have no experience of the sunroofs on these however just looking at your photos if you are after a cheap fix could you not try putting a cable tie around the connector to get a better seal on the pipe?
  41. At the Skoda dealer right now. the verdict of the mechanic is that the brake fluid has to be changed! He tested it. it takes about one hour for the change and bleeding and a test ride. Let’s hope he is right.

In my case the delay in assembling the suspension is because I've been too busy moving from one city to another, working, etc... I've had them at home for 3 months almost! Today it'll be the day. Hope the ride changes completely but without losing comfort...
  43. Russell's move confirmed: Mercedes finally confirm Russell for 2022 season (msn.com)
  44. It's not a bad idea, but I do wonder about some of the advances in tech like keyless or elec vehicles and the benefits they bring. I've never had to carry a spare battery since remote central locking was a thing, M116SSO Mondeo I think, I never had to shield my keys in a box or bag, I never worried about a vehicle unlocking its self or opening its windows (both have happened to me) because of some fault, and I heard recently about the need for a battery charger if you go away for a couple of weeks because some Hybrids don't have an alternator. I'm not against tech, I love some of the new features, It's just that I think sometimes they try and be too smart, keys that report back user stats or store data for example - and they have reduced battery life. Who actually benefits? My brothers toothbrush connects to his wifi and goes flat every couple of days, but it's a more expensive model than mine. he could go to an app and spend hours looking at the stats for his tooth brushing I suppose... Rant over.
  45. Try some go-faster stripes too. Or this for £900. https://www.luxuryautohouse.co.uk/online-store/iXsound-ACTIVE-SOUND-EXHAUST-SYSTEM-p379382284 I can think of better ways to spend 170 quid.

I promised an update following a drive using ACC in my [test] updated SEL 1st Edition. My route included both 2 and 3 lane motorway (M3 J12 - J8), as well as single and dual carriageway roads (A30 west from J8). Pleased to report that the ACC was doing what it should do… Reduced my speed on catching up with a vehicle in my lane Maintaining my speed when catching up with and passing a vehicle in the lane to my Left Reducing my speed when catching up with a vehicle in the lane to my Right Interestingly, in the latter of those three scenarios, I was in Lane 1, reasonably close to a vehicle in Lane 2, being held back by ACC then as we got to a right hand bend that vehicle became outside of the radar field so my car accelerated. This is something mentioned in the car user manual so no great surprise but a reminder that the driver is (should be) in control and that ACC is merely an aid. Approaching a slow moving queue, I ‘allowed’ the ACC to reduce my speed from 70mph to about 35-40mph before I decided to drop a gear or two and take over - a scenario where I think a DSG ‘box would be much better suited. The KPH/MPH settings continue to work as they should and to my surprise the system allowed a change to that setting whilst in motion - I recommend that the driver doesn’t do it though! Subjectively, the system feels quicker than it did before; but I couldn’t be absolutely certain about it (it’s 20 weeks since I previously drove it!). I am convinced that it is quicker than the system fitted in the loan Octavia SE 1st Edition though. Navigation Favourites appear to save OK - but I only have two so far, carried over from March/April time. I will be giving feedback to Kate at Škoda UK this week and I hope that the ‘fix’ can be deployed more widely soon.
  47. I must say, I don't find the stop/start at all intrusive, certainly not on a DSG.
  48. It's because there is a high pressure area alongside the car so when you open the windows at speed that high pressure tries to 'escape' inside the car but can't do it continuously, hence the pulsing. Cars have been doing it ever since drag factor became an issue - was seen on every car we worked on when I was working on active noise systems back in the late 1980's so it's not a new thing nor a specific to Skoda thing.
