  1. Did something nice with the Fabia today in the one dry spell we had between finishing a lecture and taking the Spaniel out... So, some of you will have seen the thread about these, but if you haven't then here you go. Metal pedal covers, purchased off of eBay for less than 20 quid. Before: After: I realise the brake one may not quite be on right, but I'll argue with it tomorrow morning when there's daylight. After a few (maybe 20-30???) harsher than normal slams of the brake, it feels secure but sits a wee bit funny. More on that tomorrow with the photos of other parts being fitted etc.
  2. Right. The clutch kit is in and I'm back on the road. In the end the kit cost £547 https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/ecs-tuning/ecs-stage-1-clutch-kit-228mm-5-speed/ plus delivery and then fitting was £325. My wallet is a lot lighter but at least I'm back in the car for my daily commute. I'll need to bed the clutch in for a few miles before I give it WOT so that'll test my self control over the next few weeks. Initial impressions are that it feels smooth and there's no noticeable vibration at the moment. I reckon that the unknown hybrid kit that came out must have had a lighter flywheel as it seems that the car is ever so slightly less keen to pick up at low revs. This may not be the case as I've only done about 50 miles but I'll report back on that after a few weeks. Apparently, the old clutch had pretty much torn itself apart and the middle simply fell out so it's a good job I stopped using the car when I noticed it slipping. There aren't any photos I'm afraid but I thought a quick update was in order.
  3. Good timing on this discussion. I'm investigating the home charging labyrinth at the moment. I spoke to a home automation installer (who also does chargers) and he said "Zappi", works well with solar. So, I contacted to get some quotes. Two quotes have come back both over £800 (Tethered 7kW unit). Have heard that PodPoint are also good. That seems to be coming in around the £600 mark for a tethered 7kW unit. So, what do I get for my extra £200? The ability to charge using my excess solar. OK, so what is my solar output? I have a 3.25kW system for reference. I've kept good records since my solar was put in back in October 2012. Recording the meter output monthly over this time I'm getting through the summer months about 15kWh/day. This drops to around 3kWh in the winter. The Enyaq 60 has a 62kWh battery. If I left the car attached all day during the summer I'd only get a quarter "free" charge of the battery. During the winter it's almost not worth bothering with. I conclude that I'll save my £200 and putting it towards my electricity bill.
  4. So the car came with a pioneer double din with no CD slot 😟 just this bluetooth streaming thing lol. Well I found a hdmi on the back and had a thought, now TV in the car lol. Also a pic of the replaced vent and the fuse box on the battery, looks so clean for a 13 year old part!
  5. The difference is one year: MY21 will be assembled in 2023-24, MY22 in 2025. 😁 Sorry for the silly joke.
  6. A couple from yesterday's walk.......
  7. Interestingly enough, chip shortages may not be the thing that ends car production in the near future, for most manufactures. It seems to be going under the radar that we are running out of Magnesium and most of our cars require the stuff, you need it for aluminium parts as well as various alloys. As one journalist said "you can't build cars without aluminium and you can't work with aluminium, without magnesium". China, which is the world's main supplier of magnesium, apparently somewhere around 85% of it comes for there! The story goes that 35 of the 50 factories that produce magnesium have been shut, due to power shortages and the remaining 15 factories have had their output cut by half. The bottom line seems to be unless something changes pronto, Europe could run out of magnesium before Christmas. Sadly the stuff is incredibly hard to store too, owing to the fact it oxidises really quickly. America does produce a fair bit of the stuff, but nothing like the amount that China does.
  8. Thanks again guys for the help, had a look today and found that the wire was broken to the hatch not the first time I have had problems there as I am not the best at soldering I had a go and put a new bit of wire in not the best of repairs but looks like all is working on the rear now. That part of the car wiring is not good were it comes out of the body into the hatch the rubber boot has gone and I put shrink tube around the wire and taped them all together, I noticed that the wires seen hard not flexible it actually needs all rewiring.
  9. My wife has a Tiguan R Line with kessy we keep our keys when not in use in an empty biscuit tin. It works for us! Took the biscuit outside containing the keys and the car wouldn’t open. Used this for 2 years now!

..the Yeti is irreplaceable....I have been looking for 2 years!
  11. Google Maps shows the rails and sheds better, a lot more 'stuff' there than i thought. terrain is hilly around there so i don't think the line ever went anywhere other than the yard

I ordered my VRS TSi DSG back in Feburary. It was due to be built w/c 15th August but was then delayed with no information available re when it might actually be complete. Skoda live chat didn't know and the dealer had no further information but they've just confirmed the car is built and is on the way to the port for shipping to the UK. Bit of a surprise because I've been so used to no info being available but despite theories about diesel and iV being the priority, there's clearly hope for anyone who ordered the petrol engine. I'm now just praying that it doesn't turn up with the litany of tech issues that so many others have experienced. Also, as a side note, I complained to Skoda Customer Relations and they've been very helpful. That help included providing a hire car for a month for a family holiday so, although the wait has been frustrating, I wanted to share that positive experience.
  13. It's Rear Traffic Alert
  14. Those tyre pressures seem rather high. Maybe they are eco pressures? It's surprising that Skoda is recommending the same tyre pressures for both the 205/60R16 size and the 215/45R18 size, as the 205/60R16 has a much higher load index (92 vs 89). With the 205/60R16 tyre size, 2.5 Bar front and 2.5 Bar rear can support 2,100kg. With the 205/60R16 tyre size, 2.7 Bar front and 3.3 Bar rear can support 2,520kg. I doubt the Kamiq weighs any where near these amounts. To keep things simple, I would try 32psi front and rear (with just two front passengers) and then 29psi. You should easily notice the ride improvement everytime you drop the pressures by 3psi.
  15. Hi Wimw. 👍 Glad the guide helped in some small way. In answer to your question, “will that go away”. Unfortunately it will not I am sorry to say. However it can be reset by someone with VCDS or an OBD scanner that has the reset capability. Your best bet is to post a request for someone local to you that has the kit and is willing to help. Fortunately the general YETI section (LINK) of Briskoda is populated with a great many members who will be willing to help you. If you are due a service in the near future, most garages would reset it for you during the service if you ask. It only takes a few seconds. Alternatively, you might want to purchase one of these OBD dongles for yourself. They are not expensive, anywhere between £10 & £20 will get you one that can do lots of things including resetting the airbag warning light. A quick Google search and you will find dozens. For more information & advice on these dongles just include the word Briskoda in your search term (Search: Briskoda - OBD - reset airbag warning) and you will find a great many references where Briskoda members have used them for just the job you are trying to do. For future reference, should you need to work around or disconnect the air bag, It is MOST ADVISABLE to disconnect the vehicle battery to avoid the bag deploying and causing considerable damage and very possibly serious personal injury! Trust me, I was a firefighter for many years and have seen the results of accidental deployment of airbags and it very often leads to quite serious and often life changing injury! You can avoid future warnings when working on / around the system by disconnecting the vehicle battery. This will prevent the cars monitoring systems seeing the airbag has been temporarily disconnected whilst you work! It’s good standard practice in the industry so don’t worry about it. Just disconnect the battery as normal and wait for about 5 to 10 minutes to allow any residual power to drain from the capacitors in the engine management system. That’s it, you can now disconnect the airbag without fear that the warning will display when you reconnect everything. When you re connect the battery it auto resets the cars systems. If I remember correctly, all you lose is the current trip mileage record, though with some makes, of which Škoda is one, you need to drive a few yards to complete the systems reset. Hope this helps……Tony PS: To all that read this post; Please take this as a friendly warning that working on or around any airbag has potentially lethal consequences! The very least you should do is to disconnect the vehicle battery when working in proximity to an airbag and NEVER under any circumstances attempt to dismantle one! They carry an explosive charge!
  16. Loose chippings.!! Really annoy me when these flying missiles do so much damage to glass and paintwork. It is a waste of time when a few months later the road surface reverts back to the original condition leaving motorists with the ensuing inconvenience and expense.
  17. Off Topic in this instance, I think. @mandp I got a nice well-above-longterm-average 47mpg out of my last tank of E10 in my Polo. Can't say I'm experiencing any negative changes thus far in either car.
  18. No, just keep it moving, it's fairly easy to do.
  19. Hi The online updates (over the air / internet) are officially not available at this time (Oct/2021), with no known date for the service being back. This is a disgraceful situation for a service that all those owners with this kind of info unit (MIB) have paid for, either in the cost of the car from new ( 1 year free), or via a subsequent payment of about £80 for another year. Skoda should be ashamed of this level of customer service.

Ordered mine 2 week ago in Taiwan, 1.5 MHEV with matrix light. The sales person said the car wont be ready at least 3-6 months from now. After reading through this thread, I doubt my dealer is overly optimistic about the ETD. I'd better pretend never order it until one day I got notice that the car has arrived.
  21. No, the Octavia Mk3/3.5 share the DSG paddle design with the Mk5/6 Golf, stuff designed for a Mk7 won't fit. https://www.dsg-paddles.com/blogs/news/volkswagen-paddle-shifter-guide-2021 As referred to on there as 'S6X'
  22. I'm sure there is a BMW round here with something similar. It certainly doesn't look bad for it but I think they have a few other fluorescent bits to help tie the wing mirrors in. Erm, why would the police care? AFAIK, there is nothing wrong with fluorescent colours or wraps being used on UK cars. As it's only the wing mirrors, there is no need to tell the DVLA of a colour change but the OP would have needed to inform their insurance. If you start fitting retro-reflective materials then I believe those are subject to various restrictions
  23. Thank you for the helpful tips, @grandmasterbray. I will give it a go and maybe even make a video for everyone else to use. Keep you posted.
  24. I managed to get the studded winter tires on in time a couple of days ago and today the snow came. 🥶 ❤️ I love Winter ❤️ Now we will have snow until the middle of May. ⛷️ ( Michelin X-Ice North-4 , 205/55x17" )
  25. I use tywraps as filler rods when making bodge repairs to many different types of plastics, many of us have them in various thicknesses and colours, well black and white and maybe some silver ones for wheeltrims.
  26. In the following photo its the one with 100 written on it. This is inside the box to the right of the engine.
  27. Thanks Ryan! I've got an update as well; It turns out SC Performance use Topgear Tuning for their remaps, a company I haven't heard of and will only map the car to 130hp but in fairness the reviews seem positive. Due to this I inquired with Darkside to see how much a dyno tune with them would cost: £450 plus driving from Southampton to Yorkshire and back so although they're the best in the business I'll give them a miss this time 😞. Instead I've opted for a remap and dyno at DC Automotive and Tuning, near Chichester, as they use Celtic Tuning software (which my family and I have had on cars before as it's 10/10) and I can get a dyno print out for the fridge haha. Just waiting on a call back from DC and everything should be confirmed, £295 iirc. This does leave one little niggle - the car's having all the physical work (catback & EGR) done one day and being mapped the next at a different garage ~50 miles away, now I know 50 calm miles with no DPF or EGR without a map shouldn't damage anything but a friend did offer to trailer the car which I might take them up on as it just removes any risk of breaking something somehow. On the flip side I don't want to waste half a day of their time haha, might have to pay for their diesel and a takeaway.
  28. I've just used a soldering iron to plastic weld bumpers in the past. Usually you can just melt the 2 sections together. If you need to let in additional plastic you need to make sure you use the same type of plastic. The type is normally stamped on the panel somewhere, eg ABS etc.
  29. yes thats what I did about 16 years ago when I had my first Audi A8 which was pre-can, a "dummy" interface from Gendan (which are VCDS dealers) and 99USD was worth every penny imo..............had to upgrade later on, but my early cable still works I just don't need it anymore. Now the HEX+CAN-USB I have now is technically "out of date"................It was quite dissapointing to read when "Vagcom" went VIN based, thats was one difference I felt kept them above and not as greedy as all the other diagnostic tool manufacturers.
  30. I completely agree with your comments - please bear me in mind I will continue to follow any updates closely! And yes - all work done by myself.
  31. So Been a LONG time since i've updated this, but I still have my Octy. It has, however, changed (quite a lot!) See below recent pic: If people are keen, I can do a write up in more detail of what i've been up to. Essentially, the car is now a lot more fast road focused and running circa 240bhp.
  32. A couple of friends have sent pictures of sunsets this evening - the first from East Lothian and the second from Northumberland. The sunset set in North Nottinghamshire was a little less dramatic
  33. Yes, I ordered a new SE (5 seats) - lots of options added - on the 2nd June, under Skoda UK's then 'special offer' - which soon disappeared ! Build week 19th July, left Czech 29th August, arrived at the dealer 30th September, collected it 11th October. Delighted with the vehicle. My last three cars have been Superb L & K Estates, but as I get older I fancied a Kodiaq. The dealer told me that of the 30 or so Skoda vehicles ordered for stock, showroom and waiting customers, only mine had arrived !! Not a new car in sight.
  34. I got mine from SmartHomeCharge, who have several options of chargers at various prices. They have video reviews of their chargers. https://www.smarthomecharge.co.uk/ https://www.smarthomecharge.co.uk/guides/charger-selector-tool/
  35. Push the menu button for like 10 sec and you will find the update option. Use that and you will succeed. good luck 🍀.
  36. Latest version of the Osram Nightbreaker series, but take note than "N% brighter" translates into "Sqrt(N) more range". So, for example 50% brighter means than a 100m range becomes 107m.
  37. I always use the website Autobulbs Direct. Their prices are good, they have the Osram Nightbreaker bulbs (some variety of Phillips bulb often gets better reviews in Autoexpess's testing, but are usually significantly more expensive, and the Nightbreakers seem to me to be good enough, and clear improvement over standard ). There is a trade-off between intensity and bulb life, so you have to be a bit careful about which exact bulb you buy as the big manufacturers tend to have a selection of different trade-offs available. Also, 'plus 50% (or whatever)' bulbs tend to look a bit brighter, but not as much as it indicates on the box. This seems to be due to the way they are allowed to make claims - you can choose the distance that suits you best, and claim that your bulb is a certain percentage brighter there, which will not be the same as that percentage brighter everywhere.
  38. It does not have any non return valves! It has a bypass valve internally as any decent oil filter would have in case the filter gets blocked. It also has a spring loaded rubber seal arrangement that seals off a return to sump oilway in the engine side housing when the filter is screwed down. The purpose of this is that when you unscrew it by a couple of turns, the oil in the filter will drain down to sump rather than spill all over the side of the engine, the alternator and aux belt. After all the filter is fitted upside down. Mann, Mahle, Bosch, others, they are all the same, just possibly different filter element design and material. The return to sump gallery is the smiley mouth in the pic below. This is sealed shut by the wide rubber O seal on the filter when screwed down. The seal is clearly seen uppermost here.
  39. My petrol VRS can only dream of such MPG's. I get around town 28 , motorway 42 tops. I didnt give that a thought when i ordered. I just thought ooh the spirited drive, slip diff , 0-60 etc.
  40. Well she's finally plated and my god what a leap it is from my MK 3 RS in terms of technology, which touch wood has been absolutely flawless even though it's only day one of ownership. The ambient lighting, kessy, wireless Android Auto, digital cockpit, and the voodoo that is ACC are things I could never do without now in a car.
  41. I did replace the badge but its not the same colour (race blue) as the car so might spray it on the car !!!
  42. Quartz grey basking in the sun
  43. Titan blue + ceramic coating
  44. Afaik the newer kit can be fitted to earlier engines provided the top and bottom sprockets are changed as the chain link design is different, the sprockets are included in the kit. Here is a list of parts used when the timing chain was changed on my Nov 2011 build Octavia with cbzb 1.2tsi engine. (Skoda/dealer repeatedly refused warranty over previous complaints between early 2013-2015 claiming start up rattles were normal, then on the tensioner length which came in a couple of mm under the limit on the then TPI) Ignore the BEARING$ entry on the parts list as that was for a supposedly faulty wheel bearing failed by the MOT tester, in reality, when I checked it out, it seemed perfectly ok. Original Top cover was used as that TPI no longer applied. Oil leaking from the badly resealed sump and/or covers were free of charge. P.S. I might add that the engine referred to above must be one of the ones before the block design change as its sump oil capacity is only 3.6 litres, a later 2013 fabia we had (1.2tsi cbza engine) had the revised design block with 3.9 litre sump oil capacity. Also it had the unprotected plug leads which failed and killed the coilpak as many others do but best Skoda would do is a parts contribution.
