  1. IT'S ALIVE! Firstly thanks to everyone for the suggestions and knowledge, has been a steep learning curve! This morning I thought I'd test the MAF sensor using a multimeter as per hatboyharvey's video on the tubes (really useful playlist) and the cable was fine but the sensor was reading alot lower than the one in the video (idle at 1.2V compared to ~2V and then revving it hardish it didn't go above 3V). I needed to pop around the corner anyway so thought I'd unplug the sensor 'just to see' half expecting a cel and limp mode on the way. I WAS WRONG, the car had life! It could spin the wheels and drive like a normal car, got there and plugged it back in for a comparison on the way back and it was pathetic af like before. This was the night and day difference I expected from the turbo swap tbh. Collected a new MAF from ecp (https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/bosch-air-mass-sensor-air-flow-meter-434440617) Bosch 434440617 (40% with winter deal and gave old one back for another £35 back, bargain!) and fitted in 10mins (brew wasn't even drinkable by the time I'd finished). Started her up and I had values on the obd tool (result) so took it for a drive... She now can spin the wheels going into 3rd! Drove it like an asbo for a good hour just smiling! Fast pulling from lights and the M1 slip (that I crawl up every day) I can now power up and actually have to lift off and then driving on the motorway was great, it didn't even register the hills that killed it before and was still puling above 70! /dldr Car now drives like a car should! Changed maf sensor and suddenly powerful! Happy days
  2. I drive a Skoda Superb Combi 2,0 140 HP Diesel, engine CFFB, 1. Reg 2011 Jan 5. Lately it has 450.000 km on the counter. I do the oil and filter replacement in my own garage with the correct VW specified oil, Castrol LL, as a rule 15.000 km interval. After 15.000 km there is absolutely no oilconsumption, and no problems with the turbocharger either. I have had no oil pressure issues whatsoever, but the “engine icon” in the dashboard meant a replecement of the particle filter - a bit costly ! As a normal wear problem was replacement of the aircon compressor and condenser and hence the fan blower. As a whole the Superb is a splendid car with a very good fuel economy, and in spite of high km, it starts promptly even in severe frosty weather. I have over the years owned 4 Fiat, 2 Audis : 100 2,3E, a splendid car, an A6 2,4 V6, a “junk car” ! As a “home garage mechanic” i also perform all brake service, the parts I always buy in Germany, the parts price is less than half the Danish prices - - includes shipmet costs ! The Skoda Superb is the best car we have had until now !

Hi all, just an update on this topic... Ordered a 1. 4 TSI iV vRS dsg estate in metallic race blue with winter pack, electric tail gate, virtual pedal, dynamic indicators. Through a lease company ordered 28th June just been confirmed at Port and delivery due to dealer by 31st Dec.. So I make that 6 months and 1 week. Had 4 push backs on the delivery date from originally being told 1st Sept delivery. Have received Registration and finance documents. I really hope for all of you still waiting that your vehicles arrive here soon.
  4. Thats a stunning car amanda ,even if thats not yours ,i imagine yours will look just as good ,am well jellous ,but having just had another speed awareness course yesterday best i dont order one haha
  5. That doesn't mean there isn't a wiring fault though.
  6. All well and good, but no price as you go through it, and I wouldnt trust Kwik Fit with a Corgi car.
  7. Not posted in this section for a while, nor used Lightroom 😬 Took this a couple of weeks ago during sunrise on the Caribbean Coast of Mexico, taken with my now very old iPhone 7 ☺️
  8. Arrived today, £14.50 delivered for a set.
  9. That is a positive for me, it means that I can narrow my search for a replacement vehicle down to those with the lowest NCAP ratings! I very much like your opinion!
  10. Absolutely, it's due to chip shortages. But if anything they were to cut, it should always be non-safety related. I'd be okay if they installed 20 buttons in place of a touch screen, and offered a retrofit upgrade path to normal spec later down the line. Or even wind-down windows + hand adjusting mirrors to eliminate door control modules at each door. Luxury can always go backwards, but never safety.

I had a beige 1984 Metro 1.3 Auto with brown velour interior. 1 lady owner, never raced or rallied. When i sold it it it was 2 lady registered keepers and never rallied. It was used at autotests though.
  12. ... and I know this is a "new model", but Euro KneeCAP keep arbitrarily reducing their ratings for existing models "because we've changed the standard", and giving better ratings for systems like "lane enforce" and "auto slam on the brakes randomly" (if you don't like my opinion, check the model technical fora)

If it looked just like this it would appeal to many. https://autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/mg-poised-launch-compact-electric-hatchback

Now if they brought out an MG Metro EV.....

Using that logic then, if Skoda had marketed the Kamiq as a compact tractor, you would expect it to pull a plough ? Anyone with a modicum of common sense can see that the Kamiq is little more than a jacked up hatchback. If you believe everything you read in the blurb, then the moon is made of cheese. Is that your experience or are you quoting others on forums ? Of all the Skodas sold, how many actually experienced these problems - you generally only read about the bad ones on forums. Manufacturers don't issue recalls for glitches unless they are a safety issue. VAG are not infallible and are little different to most other manufacturers in this respect. They have issued software updates to address these issues, which in my opinion, based on the two VAG cars we own, are working. No you don't, only the mapping. I was receiving updates before I signed in as the primary user on Skoda Connect. There is also chatter about reinstating manual map updates, which will mean they'll be free if it happens. So you bought a new car based on sitting in one in a showroom. You didn't have a test drive ? How remiss was that. I understand that you don't want another Skoda, we've all had cars like that, but if nothing else, this should teach the OP that he really should pore over the Kamiq and take it for a long test drive, or have it overnight if the dealer will allow it.
  16. Well worth mentioning as changing the bulbs on the projector headlights in the Fabia is much harder than it should be. One of the main reasosn I went for the +130% rather than the +150% or +200% as they should have more life in them due to not running as hot as the aforementioned +150% and +200%.
  17. As above. 38 doesn't sound too bad. We get roughly 35 average with our 1.5 and that has cylinder-on-demand. Where the economy shines on these mid size turbo petrols is cruising. Can happily get 50+ on a motorway run. And my mates 1.4 a3 is similar.
  18. The factory specifications are: G11 1994 ,VW TL 774 C G12 / G12+ 1996 ,VW TL 774 D/F G12++ 2005 ,VW TL 774 G G13 2008 ,VW TL 774 J Felicia had G11 Green colour from the factory, G11 now can be found in Blue colour in many brands. @HappySkoda : is your air filter clean or new? Is your throttle cleaned with spray lately?
  19. The same applies to the use of inappropriate terminology from the past too. I'm sure everyone knows how to take the edge off things without any further moderation being required should they choose to do so. 👍
  20. Like I said I don’t think that oil is suitable and I’d get it changed. You manual will however confirm this. Rather than taking it back, I personally would get under the car with a camera to seek out new parts/see what was actually done. I would probably suggest you take it to a trusted garage so they can confirm what if anything has been done and what needs doing. Get them to write a report if they state anything beyond what you expect. It could be that they put the wrong part in the car, it can happen, but as they gave you a BMW part and used what looks like the wrong oil, I personally would give up taking it back due to risk of creating more problems. Perhaps some members in London can recommend a decent specialist garage.

l'm thinking, that if he was originally quoted 8 weeks for delivery when ordering, that the car must have been already been built or previously ordered

That looks like a miraculous result! Nice one 👍
  23. FWIW the battery was off the car as it’s been replaced with the new one. 👍 Once off I fully charged it on the ctek to float, left it overnight 18 hours and put the tester on it this morning. Obviously I ignored the good/otherwise rating and percentage and it’s not accurate but it’s a reasonable indication that it has lost around a quarter of the cold grunt it had new. Probably more as it wasn’t that cold this morning although it had been left outside all night. I repeated the test about 3 times under the EN and DIN settings so at least the meter was consistent. I’d also got the 12.7 from a multimeter previously. So it whilst it isn’t totally dead, it’s no longer fit for turning over a cold diesel. Probably fine for a 1L petrol or a solar light system😂 At nearly 7 years old, plus CoVID lockdowns (even with charging) I was waiting for it to decide it was time to start going south 👍 As an aside, I charged the new battery on the ctek AGM program (14.7V max) before putting it in, so I know it is full when it went in.
  24. Ok, here's an update. No one has a problem with me doing the seat swap. Within the seats the electrical and mechanical components are identical (parts and part numbers) to the powered version of the Karoq seats. Identical! So a new loom is coming and all that should be left to do check if the seat becomes plug and play if not.. its just software (Codeing). Mars... here i come.
  25. You have started a wotisit? competition, we can tell you what it isn't, a sump or upper oil pan but need more photos hopefully with a part number to decide what it is, did you get an invoice for the repairs with the parts listed?
  26. This seems to come up pretty frequently so here are a few screenshots to show the process. First step is to download the maps to your computer, you have three choices: - download from Skoda - download from VW - use MartiniB's direct links The direct links are easiest and updated quite quickly, these are probably the latest, updated Nov '22: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/508188-amundsen-mib2-map-updates-20232024 Warning: The full Europe maps no longer fit on a 16GB card without modification. The smaller ECE 1-7 versions should be fine Bit more info regarding which files to delete can be found here: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/498473-amundsen-mib2-map-updates-202223/?do=findComment&comment=5592747 Downloading maps (Skoda) Goto https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ and enter your VIN. Choose whichever maps you'd like. For this guide, I choose the European maps. Click download and wait until they are on your computer. Copying the maps to your SD card (Skoda) Once the download has completed, we can copy the maps to your SD card. - Remove the SD card from your car and make sure the 'lock' tab is in the unlock position (it should be in the position that's closest to the gold/silver contacts) - Then plug the SD card into your computer - Optional step, you can copy the files from the SD card as a backup if you'd like. I don't bother but it's your call. Start 'File Explorer' and find your SD card. In my case it shows up as D:\ but it could be another letter on your computer. Right click on the SD card and select format. People have differing options on the format options, you can see what I used below. Once the format is complete, right click on the maps you downloaded earlier and select 'Extract All...' from the submenu. You need to change the destination folder to match your SD card. In my case it's 'D:\' but you may need 'E:\', 'F:\' etc. Click 'Extract'. And wait! Time will depend on your computer and SD card slot. When it's complete, right click and eject the SD card. Not all computers will show this option. You can now remove the SD from your computer and slide the 'lock' tab is in the lock position (it should be in the position that's furthest from the gold/silver contacts). Downloading maps (VW) Goto https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/car/#download and select 'Golf' then 'Golf from 2017' then 'Discover Media'. There are various options but that should be fine for the MIB2/MIB2.5 Amundsen. Click download and wait until they are on your computer. Copying the maps to your SD card (VW) You'll need to install some extra software called 7-Zip to use the VW maps, it's freely available from: https://www.7-zip.org/ Once the download has completed, we can copy the maps to your SD card. - Remove the SD card from your car and make sure the 'lock' tab is in the unlock position (it should be in the position that's closest to the gold/silver contacts) - Then plug the SD card into your computer - Optional step, you can copy the files from the SD card as a backup if you'd like. When it's complete, right click and eject the SD card. Not all computers will show this option. You can now remove the SD from your computer and slide the 'lock' tab is in the lock position (it should be in the position that's furthest from the gold/silver contacts).
  27. Yeah I've polished my lenses with the Autoglym kit with an attachment that goes in a drill. T-Cut wouldn't touch them. That's also a very good point @Bepis about the bulbs being difficult to change. I meant to link to this thread earlier but forgot to: But OP has probably experienced this fact already.
  28. I ordered a Kamiq SEL with lots of options in mid August. Just had an email today from dealership to advise "it is currently at the port of exit in Germany and has been released for shipping. From this stage it is usually around 3 weeks, but of course Christmas may affect this I will continue to keep an eye on the progress for you, I am out of the dealership for a few days and will be able to contact you again on Saturday, 18th December, where I will be in contact with an update on the progress at that time." Well 3 weeks is 29 December so I probably won't get to pick it up until after New Year.
  29. The next issue that needed my attention was my A/C. On the way to Cornwall on a particularly hot day the airline decided it not longer wanted to be cold and changed to temp to max without my input. Not a happy wife! I remember reading posts a while back on here about the possible cause, so set aside another afternoon in the garage to rip out the heater motor flap. Took me a while to get all the various bits off the car, and although it isn't really necessary I removed all the plastic pieces from around the handbrake. Reason being I wanted it to go back in perfectly, without scratching anything. The offending part .... stripped and all cleaned up with GT85. So far, touch wood, I've not had the same issue since, but fully expect to to have to replace this at some point in the future. Given my car is almost 17 years old I happy as Larry that the aircon actually works, just needs a re-gas before next summer. Whilst I was at it I removed the drivers vent as the slats were not sat as they should be. Turns out that I need a new unit as the little tabs on the gears are broken, but managed to get it into the position I usually have it in without it moving and will not touch it!
  30. Interested in those dent pullers actually. Got enough dents on mine to fill an evening (not caused by me!) Loving the flames, fellow pyromaniac.
  31. If it leaves a hole, or the seal was broken...
  32. Agreed regarding oil sensor, the garage has done a very good job of cleaning up, especially trying to make old parts look like new 😆 The round thing looks to be the dogbone bush lower transmission mounting, someone will say that the oil will soften and swell it, as long as it has been cleaned it will be OK, they are all synthetic rubbers and highly resistant to petrochemicals. Oil filter is far too high up to have been damaged by a fixed object like a speedbump, its above the sump to engine block mating face.

When you lease companies offer better rates and you lose similar amount of money, but are not attached to the car in any way, so if you drive a lot it makes financial sense to just keep leasing and driving new cars all the time.
  34. quite a few mk1,s being broken down on ebay mate just message them and they create a post with the part you want to buy.

I Agree with Zedboy. the hybrid version is 200-300kg heavier and higher. For pleasure get the petrol version. I you want to save on gas for shorter trips but still have some fun, get the hybrid. For the me hybrid suits quite well. I can do my work (32km) daily with electric and when i want to drive, i can just fire up the petrol engine. Its still perhaps a compromise, but i get the best of both worlds. I do like the electric driving, even if this has a gearbox after the electric engine. Full EV is not an option yet, even if that would be the best for me.
  36. Here you go bud if you want to get some new panels on your mk1 try this firm https://www.magnatuning.com/en/products/377/Skoda-Fabia-MK1-6Y
  37. Just to add to the conversation, halogen bulbs that glow brighter will tend to last a shorter time due to them heating up the element more to produce the brighter light. I have original Night Breakers in my Mk1 dipped beams, need to upgrade my full beams, they don't add much.

I have owned a kamiq since June 2020, its a rattling box on wheels with the handbrake on the wrong side to save money to change it, poor electrics and infotainment system which crashes all the time, an indicator which when turning left restarts the last tune haha. Please don't.

Finally here. Its very very good. Worth a 8 month wait? Yes but only cos I was able to extend my existing lease...
  40. Thats why litle lexi is left untethered on the back seat. If someone gets close she can retreat and not feel threatened. Bit different from one dog ( a large 12kg Cairn), who'd defend his car against anyone getting too close. Or something I saw in Africa. In Bulawayo, cars did not have alarm systems, till there was a spate of break-ins and folks started fitting alarms to front doors. The natives got wise and started to take out rear windows. One day, a game warden had rescues a baby Crock . He'd left it on the rear seat under a damp towel, whilst he nipped into bank. Meantime, two locals spotted something nice on rear seat ,under towel. Police arrived to find one local with a crock attached to arm and rear window on ground.
  41. 6 speed wet clutch DSG's as fitted to 2.0 TSI or TDI have not any common issues if serviced correctly with 40,000 mile or sooner oil change intervals. 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG as fitted to 1.2,1.4,1.8 TSI's or 1.6 TDI's on mk2 2's can be less reliable and could have been part of Service Campaigns started in 2014 on different Skoda / VW vehicles including Mk2 Octavias covering 2009-2012 cars or in 2017 on 2013-2015 cars.
  42. My job entails collating and recording information such as thefts from vehicles and I don't think I've come across a theft of alloys for many many years. Catalytic converters are a different matter, I've seen them go from discreet thefts from cars parked in long term car parks, to pulling up next to the car on the road in broad daylight with pedestrians about, crawl under the car with a cordless angle grinder and cut the cat off, with his mate stood by him with a baseball bat incase anyone tries to stop him.
  43. If it's a RHD car then this :
  44. I'm on the lookout for a Fabia so if you consider selling give me a shout.
  45. Air bag to difficult and I was going to change the heated pads but the leather and cloth seats use different pads so I give in.
  46. Looks like 253 is being broken because I just bought the leather seats from a chap in Leicester and brought them back to Manchester to fit in my cloth seat vrs. Wont be happening now due to mine having airbags and heated seats. The leather have neither so gonna give them a clean and get them back up for sale. Ouch
  47. Just purchase fabia vrs se no. 730 here in northern ireland hope to have it for a long time getting a refurb
  48. Number 50. Owned from new 25/04/07. Bridlington.
