  1. Forecast on Tuesday was for low cloud, fog with a high holding to the weekend. Booked a bed for Thursday night and off I went. Perfect weather to get up to the lakes and above the clouds… was my hunch, the gamble paid off. the lakes with an inversion. Looking south from skiddaw. then something I’d never seen before. It was for I g really slowly then vanished. In all my days I’d not heard about or seen… this is a white rainbow or a Fogbow. Fogbow with brockenspectre for bonus points now I just have to work for eight hours without falling asleep.

When the vehicle has had so many issues that required sorting under the Skoda Manufacturers Warranty you are as well buying a Skoda Warranty from Skoda/ VW Group so that when the try to say the issue is invalid because it is a known issue then you can tell them it was known by them yet they sold you a warranty.

My car is (hopefully) being delivered today!
  5. Hi. I took the car in to the accredited independent garage today for the new anti-roll bar linkage ball joints to be replaced. I was originally quoted £105 in total to replace two of these by this garage. (One at the front and one at the rear.) This was a reputable garage. I tried at least three garages for the quotes. The technician inspected the old drop links and told me there were three that needed replacing. The technician said the other drop link was fairly new. I paid £144 in total for the three 'drop links', (hope this is the correct word?) to be replaced. I mentioned to the technicians that it might be better to replace all of the drop links, (even if they're not currently causing problems,) but they insisted this wasn't necessary. One of the drop links on my car was so old it separated into two pieces when being removed. The garage used MOOG parts. I was charged £62.50 for labour, (1.25 hours) - excluding VAT and £57.50 excluding VAT for the three linkage ball joints. The clunking noise when I go over bumps has gone.
  6. I've just had an email from Skoda, linked to my Skoda Connect subscription. It appears that Skoda will be adding a free Digital Certificate service to the Remote Access package, and the email gave me a link to follow to learn more about it. Unfortunately the link didn't work, but as the service has been trialled in Finland a search told me: "Whether you want to sell your vehicle and eliminate the distrust of the potential buyer or you just want to access detailed information about your vehicle, the Digital Certificate is the ideal solution for you. With the Digital Certificate you can display an overview of selected vehicle information through the Skoda Connect Portal (e.g. vehicle identification, technical specification, mileage). This overview can then be generated into a form of PDF certificate and shared with potential used car buyers." Elsewhere, you can see that the mileage is displayed in the form of a graph over the vehicle's life, and I have also read that the certificate will state the vehicle's original equipment when it left the factory, and service records (if authorised service partners have been used) showing warranty repairs, non-warranty repairs and regular maintenance. 7. took a quick jaunt to the top part of the Falkirk Wheel this evening. Need to go back again another time and take some proper pictures.
  8. I picked up my Superb this afternoon. Very happy with it so far. It has 77,000 miles on it, so I had dealer do the timing belt, service and four new tyres. Was happy with the Michelin’s they put on it! My first mods will be to replace all the front lights with ‘whiter’ bulbs, and get mud flaps fitted all round.
  9. Took delivery of my VRS last week
  10. I am after some sympathy here guys. Lol. Picked up the car today after all the work they did on it. Oil seals leaking, ruined new Helix clutch and flywheel, coolant leak etc. The bill was £2255.14. The garage did help out a fair bit as they have completed a bit of expensive work for me in the past, as that bill was with a 20% discount. Just adding onto this post, if any of you guys are having a new clutch put in your motor, replace a couple of oil seals at the same time. We all know about the poor rear engine oil seal, but the VW specialist who worked on my car has had a few of these motors in for the same problem I had, a leaking gearbox seal that leaks all over your clutch. It's got to be worth replacing these two oil seals at the same time as replacing your clutch, Saves having to get the gearbox out again to do them later. You don't want the sort of bill I have just paid!!!!!
  11. I was somewhat wary of Spigen, based on how often I saw them either peeling, and/or cracking around the camera cut-out on their S21 series. Most cases seem open-fronted now, to allow for curved screens.
  12. I’ve been watching this too. Considering the amount of cars that were stockpiled there at the beginning of January. I believe mine has been there since it was built in August, so hopefully it’s now back at factory to be completed, along with all those that have been waiting a longtime for their Kodiaq’s.
  13. Does someone wants temperatures in his Felicia (for example) more than 110 'C? The 120 'C is the limit before ''boom".
  14. I'm now slightly over 6 months in and i'll be getting rid of this before I reach the full year. In the past month i've had: ESC & TC switch themselves off of their own accord. Auto emergency stop system trigger at *ahem* 70mph on a dual carriageway with nobody around me within a mile. No heating/vents able to be turned on (everything on the screen unavailable or showing as off, regardless of how many times i powercycled the system) with front demist and rear heating element also not functioning. Repeated complete failure of Combined parking assist, front assist and manouevre braking. High beams switching themselves on with a mind of their own ( eg. inner city in a lit area). TPMS goes off at least once a week, despite tyres always being checked immediately with a portable tire pressure unit and coming up fine. The Infotainment has to be reset once a week otherwise the SOS Call crap rears its head. Some times it won't even power the starter motor, will just power on the infotainment and not take it any further. And then the piece de resistance? An "emergency" appointment with the dealer is a 7 WEEK wait. Why in gods name would you want to buy into that when you've got a (i assume) perfectly functional mk3?

Tell her it's ok to mix spirits but to stay away from the whine.
  16. Great to see the level of work going into this! I do love the old 1.8T's.... reminds me that I need to crack on building mine that i've been putting off for years.
  17. I didn't mean to sound rude so apologies for that. It was the tyre width that was confusing things I think. 17s would definitely be better comfort wise if you could fit them over the brakes. Less steering feedback and a touch more body roll to go with it though.
  18. Both issues could be connected to the bad battery. Start/stop system won't work if the battery output is under a certain value and the engine struggles to start when the battery is bad. Going back to the dealer is your best option.
  19. Thinking about it I've also got it wrong! 235 40 19" side wall is 94mm 245 45 18" side wall is 109mm So 109mm - 94mm = 15mm taller side wall for the 18" wheel. My previous remark would only be correct of 3.5mm side wall difference if both wheels were the same diameter.
  20. The wheel rims are in ok condition for now but needed new centre caps. I bought some from eBay, which I thought were repro, but the have the Skoda logo and part number stamped on them, so not sure if they are genuine or not? I swapped over the metal rings for the originals and all good.
  21. The car needed a new set of tyres. It came with 4 odd tyres, all old, perished, and one had a big gash in the side wall. I will not be doing much mileage in the car so couldn't justify £500+ on a set of tyres, so I opted for a set of Riken high performance tyres, for half of that.
  22. While the rear shocks were out I cleaned back the surface rust from their mounting points, gave the a cost of zinc primer and finished up with a cost of white stonechip.
  23. Both rear shocks, bumpstops and mounts were absolutely knackered. They had no rebound at all. This first picture shows them full compressed, when they should be expanded. Replaced with genuine rear shocks and mounting bolts, and aftermarket bumpstops and mounts. I reused the original sleeves.
  24. Yes, you are all being thanked.
  25. One of the wiper hole covers on the plastic scuttle trim kept falling out, so I welded it back in place with a soldering iron
  26. All I've done is enjoy driving mine!!! I got rid of my MK4 vRS and I couldn't be happier with my new Superb!! I love it!
  27. Left it a bit late for this, no?
  28. If you like the current one so much, why are you choosing to get rid of it Surely it’s not worn out and only fit for scrap man yet.
  29. Completely agree with OP. I've always said that some tech on cars answer questions nobody asked and end up being too smart for their own good. We have an Edition which really didn't need much else, but when when changing my previous Skoda to the Kodiaq, I ignored several options which in theory sound great but in practice, I really hated. My previous car was a Skoda ex-promotional vehicle so had nearly every option box ticked. I added six options on the Kodiaq but only two of them were carried over from the old car. My only concern with OP's spec would be the colour - poverty blue, a zero cost option. Being an Aberdonian though, I can understand that decision.
  30. Solved! After removing the inner panel from the tailgate and the ribbed trunking near the hinges it turned out to be 'nipped' wire in the offside where the grommet on the body-side had caught the wire. As we bought the car new in 2018 and it's not had crash repairs or such, I guess this was a manufacturing fault waiting to show itself.
  31. Master Technician. Sounds like one that had the Full VW Training, just blow them off if you can not be bothered. Good that you never got a deaf one, just one that could not be bothered to do 'Customer after sales care'.
  32. I used to just look at it that 9-10 litres of LPG was costing me the same as a gallon of petrol. (My V8 did not have a petrol tank and did not need to start on petrol so no Tacho needed if towing for pay or reward._ so if i got 3 miles to the litre than that was near enough 30 mpg. I got that towing a car transport with car on. Not cheaper than running a TDI until you are getting maybe 4 miles to the litre or more of LPG.
  33. I live in the Fens and winter started in mid December, no snow but wet, muddy and sharp frosts. If we do get a period of dry weather then I will use it. Need to go up to Gateshead to work on my sons house in Feb so hopefully take the Vrs there to. Have had a few Discos and diesel P38 so know all the trials and tribulations of ownership and have all the tools. This one is the run out Vogue SE model 02 plate, am getting about 15mpg on petrol not worked out the lpg yet its 71p per litre so less than half the cost of E5 Super Unleaded.
  34. Personal account - a friend's neighbour had an S100. Every 2 or 3 months he dismantled the engine for no adequately explored reason. The point is that I'd not assume "repair work" in the sense of actual replacement or enhancement of components.

I think the 16" reference is more to do with the combination of Winter Tyres AND snow chains. Pre facelift I am sure that the S (and possibly SE option) could be supplied with 16" rims. 16's were certainly a Skoda accessory option. Looking inside the fuel flap there are pressure values for 16,17,18 and 19" rims. Back in 2012 when I purchased a new Yeti this was the same problem. The SEL came with 17's whilst the S and SE came with 16's. A group of Briskoda members managed to get the factory to accept 'special order' variations whereby we could have SEL's with the wheels we wanted. Looking at other countries' configurators the 16" wheel is often an option. So it would seem there is no 'mechanical / design' reason why the 16 is not a permitted option. I think it is more of a 'marketing' decision, although in recent years wheel size has had an impact on RFL rates. My insurance company had no qualms about me replacing the 18's that it was supplied with for the 16's provided that the replacements are approved (TUV) and are of the correct dimensions in respect of stud spacing, ET, J value etc etc.
  36. Mine was delivered in October 2021 and they've been poor since day 1 too. Gonna replace them in the spring once the frosts have stopped.
  37. Buy an exhaust bandage, and use that to seal the leak short term. Long term you'll need a new exhaust section.
  38. Remember that tyres come in various grades. Anything called Sport or Eco tends to firmer than comfort tyres. Also as a general rule at average UK temperatures all season tyres will be softer than summer tyres.
  39. Only MIB3 units will allow for USB-C ports. The MIB2 and MIB2.5 units do not have the additional wiring required to support them, hence won't work. Part number is 3G5035726B, for the USB-C version.
  40. Fab what a nice bit of sunshine can do for the soul. From a gentle ten mile ride this afternoon (gentle because my tyre noise changed in the shady areas and I realised I was on frost, some of it icy underneath): The Alsatian's a local dog I see lots. He's happy as larry as long as he's got a stick. Camera's not too bad on the new phone. Gaz
  41. It will either be the bleed thumbturn screw is not fully closed in the clutch bleed block or its seal is damaged or one of the two O rings are damaged, one is where the flexible pipe enters the blled block the other is where it connects to the slave cylinder, both are likely to have been disturbed when the clutch was replaced. It should be easy for them to fix but then it should have been easy for them to do right in the first place, often those who make basic errors and incapable of finding them when a problem appears.
  42. Looking at the parts listing there are certain chassis number divisions https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2007-419/9/955-955030/ & https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2007-419/9/955-955031/
  43. Just a thought - check that all of the vents are open
  44. tnx GOOOOOOOD fINNALY we can shut down sound actuator or u can set to 10-100% mine is now on 20% and its really much better to drive. module A9 Structure borne sound - adaptation- volume of structure borne noise act - choose betwen 0-255
  45. I now get a smile & rising annoyance as i sit charging free at Tesco and the Black Tesla and the White Renault EV van that use the EV charging bays to park while they go in shopping but do not plug in their vehicles, it is just that the bays are quick to park at.
  46. Regarding weight, there is a tonne (sorry!) of opportunity to improve efficiency of EV powertrain technology, so the specific outputs are likely to increase through new model evolution.
  47. changing to 18" wheels is unlikely to make any noticeable difference to comfort levels you said you want to get wider tyres, but even 245/45 x 18 is only about 3.5mm more profile, so next to nothing and not worth the expense even if you go to 255/45x18 that only gives you about 10mm more profile and you cant really have a 50 series profile on a 255 as that creates other problems
