  1. Someone had set an alarm for 5am… well dam I’m awake now. (They carried on sleeping). As it happens an hour later setting off and the sun had burnt most of the interest off. This could be good conditions for a brockenspectre…
  2. Complete and utter BS, the pick up pipe draws from the lower level where the mythical sediment is supposed to be at all times whether the tank is full or empty. It will not stir up sediment any more in either situation, now if the sediment were floating, an oxymoron, then that would be a different matter. It's one thing to swallow BS especially when we are young and learning/trusting but another to regurgitate it as "the best advice I have ever had"
  3. I’d happily tell you if I had a clue myself 😂😂
  4. Many of us appreciate you for that, I'd like to think the majority do.
  5. No-one takes any notice because I don't witter on endlessly and I just tell it like it is.

Hello. New Skoda owner and brand new to the group. just picked up a 2018 Octavia vrs TDI. In meteor grey. (Lovely) I live in Beverley and work in York so the new Octavia better be as reliable as my 3 series was. Please no beemer hate 🤣🤣
  7. I was curious about this as my car also only has a 16GB card and it it was just ~100MB more space needed so after a bit of poking around I managed to get it to fit on my 16GB card by deleting a few other files (in addition to the usual language files): In the folder "maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\" delete the highlighted files/folders (basically anything VW or Seat specific): SEAT (whole folder) VW (whole folder) se_default.cfg vw_default.cfg You should be left with just the SKODA folder, sk_default.cfg and vw_man.cfg. I didn't delete the file vw_man.cfg as it was the only file what that name format. It should then (only just) fit on to a 16GB SD card (14.8GB formatted). Plugged it in to the car and after checking the files it didn't report any issues and seems to work fine, but YMMV...
  8. That'll be a small radiator leak, look for signs down in the bottom right hand corner.
  9. Couple from last night ...........
  10. A friend managed to capture the reds VID-20220602-WA0016.mp4
  11. You don’t run diesel on low fuel because of the sediment, but because the active DPF regeneration cannot start if the tank is less than 1/4 full.
  12. The amount of fuel tanks I’ve pulled from cars including my old 1984 vw polo and there was literally nothing in the tank, no sediment, debris, dirt. this thing of not running a tank dry is a load of rubbish to be honest
  13. Dude, the thread's four years old, smoke from a 1.6 TDI is usually a sign of faulty injectors in which case additives won't help anyway. If there's nothing wrong with your car then the additive will do what additives do, which is nothing at all except to gently remove that purple banknote from your wallet while whispering promises in your eager ear.
  14. Take the car back to the dealership and ask if you can get the discs upgraded to double-glazed ones. Just for poops and giggles.
  15. You don't have to buy standard shocks and springs from the dealer, pattern stuff will be just fine and a lot cheaper, try a set of Lemforder springs with Bilstein B4 shocks all round. You can buy them off ebay, from your local factors or even mail order from Autodoc.
  16. Now that is a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.
  17. Clumber Park was lovely in the late afternoon sunshine
  18. Any bare piece of metal, the whole car is grounded to the battery negative terminal. I strongly advise you to just buy a new battery and jump the car off it to get it open, then fit the new battery, the original battery won't be any good if it went dead flat in less than two weeks!
  19. Perhaps this’ll help.

The windows aren't polarised .. they are toughened which involves heat treatment which is what leaves the 'coloured dots' etc you see through polarised sunglasses when looking at them
  21. 1 point
I was looking at these, which size did you go for? the 7 or 14 litre? Regarding the polarizing, my car is at the body shop but ill double check im not getting confused when its back next week hopefully!
  22. Measure with either a drill bit or calipers/rule to see what size it is: triplesquaretable.pdf
  23. Load of standard parts replacements on eBay. Cost for springs and shocks is quite reasonable. Please do the bump stops and dust covers too. The top mounts and top bearings could also do with a change if not replaced.
  24. The Octavia MK3 312mm front brakes and 272mm rear brakes are both TRW brake systems. If you use TRW aftermarket brake pads for both these TRW brake systems, they should fit just like the originals. VAG don't manufacture brake parts. They buy them from places like ATE and TRW depending on what brake system is being used on that particular car. You can often get different front and rear brake systems on the same car. For example, you might get an ATE front brake system and a TRW rear brake system, or vice-versa. As far as the rattling goes, why not compare the new brake pads with the old ones that you have just taken off before fitting the new ones. If the new ones are loose enough to rattle, I would have thought that it would be easy enough to spot the difference in size before fitting them. Maybe use the help of digital calipers, or put them back to back and look around the edges for any dimensional differences.
  25. Exactly my point; We all seem to think that the Main Stealer was talking nonsense on that point, and are therefore reluctant to believe anything else they say.

We’ve all seen what the dealers’ estimations are like 😁
  27. Got a maxton front splitter and also another front bumper that was in far better condition then my old one, it still needs a repair at some point but will do fine for now. My next things are get the brakes on, front bumper sprayed. And I’ve got some apr coil packs and new plugs to go in at some point too.
  28. Don't waste your breath.
  29. I had to get original VAG pads. Anything else just rattled in the calipers.
  30. Morning , I appreciate all of your inputs regarding my 'glazed discs' the car was first registered in October 2020, I was advised by the selling Skoda dealer it was a 2021 model, it was 8months old when we bought it last year and had covered only 2,917 miles at that time. It has very strong brakes even after the 'glazed inner side of the front disc's' of course my interpretation of 'strong ' is not measured on a machine , certainly massively better than our old admittedly heavier Volvo estate that was Volvo serviced, the 2016 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 turbo did not have as strong a breaking system which we owned from new and px'd at almost 100,000mls. I am not a mechanic (building contractor 6th generation) although I would have thought brake disc issues at this low millage would be through rusting (standing idle on the drive) and not glazing especially only on the inner side. We all know the car is a load swallower/ comfy cruiser not a 'b' road rocket that would possibly suffer 'glazed discs if driven as if its stolen. Since sourcing and fitting new disc's for the Fabia vrs Pagid with Brembo pads and finding the cost savings that can be made if you have the time /tools and basic knowledge and this great forum resources along with a Haynes manual (sourced in a Harrogate charity shop in as new condition). I will be contacting the Skoda garage next week to discuss further. Martin.
  31. Yeah, other people in the forum practice the same - premium fuel every 3rd or 4th tank. With these gas prices I prefer an additive - it’s cheaper and the result is the same. E.g. Oilsyn, Archoil 6900 or Millers Ecomax. I personally don’t trust others.
  32. I used to use a tank of the Premium fuel on my Ford Focus, every couple of "ordinary" the difference made it (to me) worth using it all the time.
  33. Hi all. I have just joined, So hello to you all. I'm afraid I have come from the darker side of the VAG group. VW LOL. 2008 Touareg 3.0 TDI to be honest. Lovely truck but it loves the fuel. So I have seen the light and bought a 14 plate Octavia 2.0 TDI DSG hatchback on 42k. So hope to speak with you guys and girls soon. Oh enjoy the weekend. Cheers Simon.
  34. As Sepulchrave already told you in your other thread, the timing probably slipped.
  35. This is how it used to be done. *5,000 km not miles, by the VW Group bumf on the example of an owners manual at the bottom.*

You only have a raised floor with the “full size spare”, on 2wd cars. Space saver fits below the lower boot floor cover in 2wd vehicle 4wd cars like mine can only fit a space saver and have to have the raised floor to cover it.

Hi, Great to be here! Find the forum really useful and helped me to decide on my car - Superb TSI 4x4 Sportline +
  38. New wheels on order! These should suit the old girl perfectly, and I won't be taking them off after a day and putting them up for sale this time... 😅 Should of got these in the first place!
  39. I'd agree with Brembo's advice for already painted calipers (eg Brembo, Porsche carbon discs or carbon ceramic): Otherwise use VHT (I've burnt fingers on hot discs and caliers before).
  40. Cheers Skoda23 😂 I think they are quite unobtrusive but definitely functional. They are Climair, https://www.climairuk.com/search.php?mmy_mode=apply&fmake=67&fmodel=2702 They do 2 versions depending on rubber or chrome window surround.

  42. Not the clearest photos but they were of the film crew & actors from the latest Full Monty being filmed at Sheffield United FC. No plot spoilers from me though. The ironic thing is that I was also present at one of the original locations as they were filming that.
  43. This sadly hits the nail on the head. Its in everyone but your best interests to take a damaged car away from you as quickly as possible and then offer you money for it. That way they hold all the cards. Dont be saddened by this though, this a very common practice between insurers and storage yards and 99% of people will follow the same path. They get first dibs on the car and a profit being turned, the insurer gets repaid any monies fairly quickly and you get to see your car nevermore but get a bit of cash in return. Something else you'll find is recovery companies or breakdown companies when you phone them after an accident to collect your car, you are now their best friend and they will do you every favor in the world to look after your car and put it in storage whilst insurance sorts it out. Why? Well because they can charge massive fees to the insurance company for transportation, storage and any other fees they make up. Sad to say its past that point though, but for your next steps these are what you should do. - Dont deal with copart, deal with your insurer. - Make clear to copart and your insurer you wont be parting ways with the car anytime soon and they need to HALT any proceedings to do anything to your car. - Get an independent assessment and you might find its an economical repair - Look all over for prices, get as many prices as you can for the most similar cars you can find - Speak to a company that deal with vehicle accident management - they will deal with it all for you, in return they take a fee but this is charged to your insurer and they work on your behalf and hopefully fight for a better price.
  44. This may be of some use to expand on @vindaloo's point...
  45. I've previously hand painted from a 250ml eBay can and found it sufficient for two coats on four calipers. This was 'on the car' and the only prep was to ensure everything was meticulously clean. No primer was used and the colour seemed to last for quite a while. Shame I can't remember what colour was ordered though.
  46. Hi Schtum, indeed it has the plastic intake. I see Darkside do a kit to replace: https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/ppd170-used-bkd-aluminium-inlet-manifold-conversion-kit.html I will get that ordered soon. While at it, I guess it's worth an EGR delete + EGR cooler delete. Will this throw check light that would need mapped out? Assuming I have the BKD intake in place, what would you then say about the mufflerectomy? FYI - RARB is on the list. Not sure if worth the money and effort, but I'm also looking at a front strut and the chassis brace. Not sure if this car is mapped - might consider a basic map, but nearing 14 years old with 152,000 on the clock, I'm concerned I'll end up putting this beyond economical repair. Any and all advice for a new vRS PD170 owner is very much appreciated. My other car is an offroader Disco 2, light mods to exhaust and engine.
