I wanted to give people hope, after nearly a year of waiting (order placed July 31st, 2021) I collected my Octavia VRS today. The car is worth the wait IMO, a lot more refined than the MK3.5 I traded in. Hang in there everyone.
  2. If there was one post on Briskoda that makes me feel old, it’s this one. 🙈

i put a front set on my mk2 octavia 2 yrs ago. hekos, and the little clips were a tad annoying, but a good shove with a flat head screwdriver got them in and even up. wind noise is a bit worse alright, but the main benefit is - leaving the windows open an inch and not worrying about it raining inside. and the lack of fogging up on the move.

They blend in well on my car in fairness so I can see what you mean.

got them in was trying to slip them in at the wrong angle story of my life so the missus says 😐
  6. might as well just put a banner on top of your car and say please pull me mr policeman.

We love ours for having the windows down a little when it's peeing it down without water coming in. Plus it lets us drop the windows enough for the dog too. Had them on previous cars too.

There is location location location and actually using a car and carrying animals and people. So like being in Sunny South Ayrshire where it p1ssed down today, and sometimes there is snow in winter and sitting in a car and having the windows a little open and rain not coming in or the interior steaming up is nice and then not freezing overnight. Not all park up in the balmy southern parts of the UK.

Never bought one, always made a replacement from a spare blade, doesn't matter what, last one I made from the passenger side when I changed the fronts as a pair.

I've got Team Heko ones on my Fabia. Metal clips were a bit of a [female dog] to get in, but did eventually go. The deflectors do waggle themselves loose from time to time, but they just get pushed back in again.
  11. Happy birthday, Ken! John Shuttleworth wrote a song about you....

You go more than 70mph? I wouldn't dream of doing that
  13. 2 points
i do, except my aircon is currently o/o/o as i havnt got around to replacing the radiator following its mangling by a fox a couple of months ago

I will hive my noise verdict once I've been out tomorrow although I'm a fellow believer in anniyingpentiums fix 😁

Funny I found it slightly reduced wind noise if anything on mine.
  16. 2 points
Exactly the reason I fitted them to the Yeti. I can leave it sitting in the drive, here in sunny Fife, with the windows cracked and any passing showers won't get into the interior. It would be even better if I could source front window blinds to match the rears but the only ones I ever found were from Russia and £££. The downside is that they do increase audible wind noise, especially in combination with the roof bars, at speeds in excess of 70 mph.

Bosch. Think it was 8 quid at most.
  18. I've had to drive mine without PAS before. I'm not that strong either, but managed it fine... besides the Sainsburys car park...
  19. And you have the best parking surface for oil leaks, you could park a 60/70's British car or motorcycle on that and it would still look good!
  20. As has been said, most people will look at the monthly cost. My ID.4 costs more per month than our previous Karoq, but less to run. When we went for the ID.4 I thought the running cost savings would offset the increased monthly cost and this has been proved by experience. Broadly speaking going EV has been cost neutral for me.
  21. /\ What they said, and it increases the possibilities of failing an MOT and/or getting "pulled" by the police.
  22. My CNG powered Octavia. Black is a pain to keep clean, but oh does it look good after the regular wash 😀
  23. More of ‘Big dog’ as the kids have named it!!

Yesterday I was fitting new number plates to my VRS when I noticed some rust bubbling around the number plate lights. After removing the lights and having a scrape I found the left side to be quite bad. Out with the rust treatment, etch primer, white primer and top coat and all is well now. Was a bit suprised as the rest of the car has no rust (that I can see)
  25. ^ Yeah, love that one too. ''A Skoda? Give over!''
  26. All sorted, found a local garage who took 10min, a diff diagnostic tool than VCDS,sorry didn't get the name of it, anyway he's managed to switch my Right fog light on, so all sorted, thanks to everyone who offered some advice, much appreciated

Run the aircon and it won't fog up. I run mine on both cars all the time. Shame they don't make motorcycle helmets with aircon or I'd have on of those as well.
  28. Now some will be caught out with 2022 prices when it is 'From £500 plus VAT. ' Do not get caught out. http://henrys-cars.com/skoda/servicing/cambelt-replacement

Yes I do. There's slightly more wind noise, but at this point I tune it out along with the clunking exhaust, console bushes, and other issues I don't want to spend money on. Turn the stereo up and it's fine.
  30. I got fed up of popping the front bumper corners back in as the mounts had broke, so fitted some new ones, also brakes are nicely bedded in. She certainly stops well, I ended up getting a new caliper and carrier for the n/s as it was slightly bent from the original crash damaged donor, so n/s is brand new hub/knuckle, caliper/carrier. Don’t ask me how much lol

You must always allow for the angle of the dangle, or so the experts say.
  32. Hold your horses and look here first:- Thanks, AG Falco
  33. Thank u @varooom, just updated the software, everything goes fine!. Next will try the map
  34. It might be the pedal or related sensor, have you checked for error codes? On your full service (engine only or whole car) did you also clean MAF/throttle body and replace air filter?
  35. Yup, me too GC My happy place is out on a bike down quiet country lanes. I had an off in July 2017, and was quite cranky after a while of not being able to get out for a ride, so I think most of us can empathise. Gaz
  36. I can relate to what you said regarding exercise and mental health. It certainly helped me through a really protracted phase where I was unemployed and the difficulty I experienced of getting any employment was a real shock. Life happens and there are setbacks, but you have a good conditioning base that is going to help you to heal faster and I expect you to come out the other side with a reasonable level of fitness. You will be able to increase the levels of exercise as you heal. Do not underestimate the benefits of a good walk, physically and psychologically. To quote my wife's physio when she had debilitating and painful lower back issues from a sudden disk prolapse a couple of months ago. "You're in good health and physical condition and I'm optimistic we can resolve your issues without major interventions. Of course if you were carrying a 20 kg stomach then this would be an entirely different conversation". He was right by the way and she improved rapidly
  37. i just went back and checked... sunday 19th July 2020 i did my first 5k attempt. so im 2 yrs and 3 days into this journey.. i had set myself a target for the end of this summer to make an attempt at running up Slievenamon, starting at the Church we got married in at Kilcash. it would be roughly 550m meters of uphill trail, so tough, and more than my average gain since starting the hill/trail running a few months ago, but if its not tough it doesnt work for me. i need there to be a target to build to, and a challenge at the end or ill get bored and give up trying to improve without noticing it. and now im realistically a good 6 weeks behind on that challenge. so when i do get back its gonna be mentally tough for me knowing that im behind where i want to be. but im alive and have everything attached to let me keep pursuing the goal so i have to keep that going too...
  38. I'd say 500 in modern times is about right. Plenty reports of dealers quoting near double that but you'd be lucky to find somewhere to do it for must less.
  39. 5Q0-825-902-C 3Q0-825-902 3Q0-825-902-A 3Q0-825-902-B They are all the same, 3Q0...B is the latest level of development.
  40. I take this as a good sign, in that an impatient patient is one who's less focussed on the injuries and more on next steps. And I think you've the right attitude and outlook to know what you can do, and when. All good wishes for your ongoing recovery Mac Gaz
  41. Have you tried striking with your hand various parts of the interior to see if you can 'encourage' the offending item to bounce about? I presume the item rattles around fairly easily, meaning it occurs very regularly upon turning/accelerating etc?
  42. ^^^ Fair enough. If one does break then people crap themselves at the cost of a fix. Not that they do very often but then you decide, 'Do you feel lucky'. The difference might be have you had the car from new and know how and where driven or is the car a 'Pre loved' / Used / Fleet / Lease vehicle.
  43. Ha! Nothing looked better than my beautiful black Brera after it was washed and waxed. Last black car I'll ever own... I like your Dastardly Dan wheels.
  44. It will have a label on it with part number and manufacturer info. See 2nd photo in this listing as an example AC PUMP SKODA YETI MK1 (Typ 5L) 2009 On 1197 CYVB Air Con Compressor - 10991242 | eBay
  45. Spotted this earlier - Google image search reckons it's a Eurasian basket tail dragonfly (? the husk left behind after it hatched)
  46. That is a VERY useful Facebook group. Thanks for sharing!
  47. Had a bit of a dicky sidelight bulb on the passenger side that required a door to be slammed shut in order for it to turn on. Since I had fitted new headlights, it was time for a trip to Hellfrauds to get a set of bulbs this afternoon. Set me back just under £6 for these "whiter" ones, but I don't grudge it much. Topped up the coolant too since it was beginning to drop below the minimum. Have a quick comparison, with the right-hand side of this photo being the "before". And with both bulbs in... Finally, I got a snap once it had gotten a tad darker... they're more of a bright white and less of the purple that the camera has captured. Apologies for the mildly blurry photo, my hands are rather shaky. Next job is fit the replacement indicator bulbs I have spare since my original bulbs are shedding their orange film like a snake sheds it's skin.
  48. I use one of these cheap ice scrapers from the pound shop. I take the scrapers off and just use the brush to pull out as much of the crumbs and other stuff to the back of the car rear car mats before I hoover. Then I go again with the brush wet with cleaner. Does a great job
