  1. I can confirm that from experience of hanging upside down in a ditch in my first car, a Renault 6
  2. So I think you’re getting a bit confused. Number 4 is a one time use airbag controlled system, all of the airbag system is controlled by the airbag module which is fused. the secondary system which is number 5 has its own fuse as the motors draw a lot of power for the reversible seatbelt tensioners. and your mention of door bars exploding to strengthen the doors, i have never heard of that and I’m happy to be proven wrong but that sounds like a terrible idea. A major part of life saving systems is still to allow egress of the vehicle after an accident, by pinning the doors shut you’d prevent that. Having them mechanically or electronically retract after accident is not reliable as metals can twist and keep the doors from opening. same way although a seatbelt will lock you in place in an accident, even hanging upside down with your full weight on the belt, the buckle will still open with relative ease with all that pressure on it.
  3. My first ever encounter with a hummingbird moth, two actually: They don't stay still! Gaz

    I can recommend Heko.
  5. Look for broken wires between A-pillar and door, I think as a first step. Don't be surprised if you find a blue/yellow or violet/yellow one busted. They are the drive wires to the dc motor (not solenoid) within the lock. They go through the white connector pair at the a-pillar.

What is good is obvious if you, passengers or animals are sitting a while in the car, maybe when raining, snowing or just sunny and you want a bit of an air gap. Get ones that the postage from the EU is not greater than the price of the items.
  7. New post, or even posts, please. The number of posts you can make is effectively infinite (vis my 36_900), and it's easier to follow posts with one subject each.
  8. Exchange stock update. The following motor modules are packed and ready for rapid dispatch, all for RHD cars: Fabia Mk1 - 6Y2959802 Fabia Mk2 - 6Y1959801 Roomster - 6Y1959801 Polo 9N/9N3 - 6Y1959801 (just front elec windows) Polo 9N/9N3 - 6Y1959801A (all 4 elec windows) Transporter T5 - 6Y1959801 I had a bit of a play installing all (but 1) of the physically mountable units in my 9N3 Polo, and confirmed that a 6Y1959801 from a Roomster does not work properly in a Polo, the up/down controls are reversed, and with one-touch operation programmed the window doesn't go all the way up when requested (apporx 30mm shy). I suspect a Fabia mk2 unit will do similar, will check later and add info. Edit: yes, up/down reversed and doesn't make it all the way up when one-touch programmed. Polo and Transporter modules do seem to be interchangeable with each other according to yesterday's fitment of a T5 module in a 9N3 Polo, although I haven't access to a T5 to try a Polo motor in it. If anyone reading has put a replacement motor from a Polo in a T5 and knows if one-touch operation works properly, I'd be grateful to hear about it. Polo modules are distinguished by having VW240xxxx as the bottom line of the part number label, T5 modules have VW750xxxx instead. If anyone's curiosity is piqued by the above observation about one-touch closure not working with the mismatched Roomster/Polo situation, I'd be glad of someone putting a tape measure up the rear edge of their Roomster (and Fabia mk2) drivers door window to compare the glass height between seals with that of a 9N3 Polo (which I'll add to this post later) edit: 445mm, on 5-door 9N3 Polo. Just got a message from the dealer that my 1.5 mHEV Octavia went into production. The bad news is that there is shortage of mHEV batteries, and the car is expected to be delivered not earlier than Oct22...

Yep, Ah is actually less critical than the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) figure in terms of getting a diesel going, so if all else is equal between a couple of candidates you're considering, pick the one with the higher CCA figure. Bear in mind that there are multiple 'standards' for measuring this which result in different figures so ensure you compare ones with the same authority e.g. DIN.
  11. Different part numbers as they are different parts Taking a look at the hatch/estate in the latest brochure, the angle the boot lid intersects looks very different and would explain the need for alternative parts.
  12. I presume the local garage disconnected the battery, when this happens some systems (e.g. ABS) need to have some basic settings redone. I think you need a fault code scan, with e.g. VCDS or OCP, to see why you have problems with cruise and stop/start. BTW there are no cruise control electronics, it's just software in the engine ECU.
  13. Look on the bright side, with senior moments comes senior discounts. 👍
  14. I'm gonna wear Google out looking up all these words you heducated lot throw up.
  15. No your car does not have them. As you can see in the picture of your fuse box, only 1 terminal of each fuse slot 13 and 41 is occupied, this is the bus bar, the lower terminal has nothing meaning your car does not have them. Edit: If anyone else comes across this thread and would like to understand it all a bit more, the seat belt itself has 5 safety systems (all at a very basic overview below) The first is a torsion bar - Simply a metal bar made to deform if extreme loads are placed on the belt so the belt will have a measured amount of give to prevent too much cutting in to you when in an accident Second we have a roll over lock - A metal ball bearing will lock the seat belt from releasing further if the vehicle is at a major angle Third is the inertia lock which if the belt is pulled very hard or fast the mechanical prongs will lock the belt from extending any further Forth is when we get in to the 2 electrical systems - First is the single use seat belt tensioner - this is a electronically controlled system by the airbag module which will fire a small explosive which will tighten the seat belt up completely and take up any slack at the time of an accident occuring. The final electrical system as mentioned in this article is not a common one of the vw platform as normally an optional extra but often called PreSafe Assist - This is a non destructive and reusable system which will sense a possible incoming accident and react in 2 ways - First will wind all 4 windows up EXTREMELY quickly and close the sun roof. The second part that relates to this system are exactly the same as above in terms of a seat belt tensioner to take up all slack and put you in the optimal place for a face full of airbag. But it does this using a very very quick and torquey motor which will very quickly spool the seat belt of any occupied seat till its tight and holding the user firmly in their seat.
  16. Why not piggyback fuse 6 (rear window wiper that is only live with ignition on) in the fusebox, take wire up behind A pillar trim (which comes off just by lifting it up) and tucking behind roof trim. Takes all of 10 minutes. The fuse box in the manual is upside down (for left hand drive cars) the one below shows it correctly
  17. Wet Clutch DSG's like DQ250 , DQ381's have one oil and that is for the box and the MCU. Twin Dry Clutch DSG's, DQ200's have 2 Oils, in the box and in the MCU. A 1.8TSI if FWD has a DQ200 7 speed Twin Dry Clutch does it not unless a AWD ?
  18. As you say, someone will know they did it, typical on the call back.

  21. Take a look in this thread, may answer your question…
  22. Found 2 sets so far, £30-55 seems to cover it. wondered if there was a particular brand that fits ŠKODA Octavia really well
  23. I have only FWD and DQ200, AWD had wet DSG6 if I recall correct. I didn't know that DQ200 has separate oils, thanks. Only downside until now is that the clutch pack was replaced under warranty after only 40tkm, so if I keep it, it will come again and it isn't cheap.Engine is still stock HP.
  24. MfG are putting their prices up from tomorrow. Matching Instavolt. https://twitter.com/MotorFuelGroup/status/1559163101622280192?s=20&t=vNTLNnKVWuvDVZktMmlv8w
  25. Ahh right. Yep, you're right; they're the culprits! I haven't permanently removed them as they're so much better than the original ones, but I discovered if I switch off Stop/Start, the issue goes away; how odd is that??

Your PR codes for your car will tell you what battery it left factory with. Mine left with 68Ah for 1.6 diesel green line Oct III A call to dealer or TPS will clarify what it should have fitted, going up in Ah won't hurt, but it might be physically bigger.
  27. @john999boy My car was made 3/2016. I have it with eyelashes and it looks awesome. I will take picture of it.
  28. The official nose weight of all Superb III on all models according to VAG documents is 90kg. From reading document D4B80828146-Trailer_operation_as_of_2016.pdf The only caveat being each Country can override this in their own legislation.
  29. Number 367. On sale in Kilmarnock with 63,000 miles for £6995. One owner https://www.facebook.com/centralautoskilmarnock/
  30. I wouldn't worry about it, I've had a 3 bike Thule carrier on my car without any issues. It's going to be a lot lighter than a bloody big caravan!
  31. F***k that for a game of soldiers!!!!! I'm sticking to old school vehicles.
  32. This description is of a purely mechanical function of an inertial real seat belt. Your fuses relate to seat belt pre-tensioners, which I sincerely hope you'll never need, but you'll be very grateful for should you ever be involved in a crash with a relative closing speed above 10 mph.
  33. Oh WOW! Thank you very much! That’s absolutely fantastic and hugely appreciated. I’ll work on getting this done in early September at the same time as my virtual cockpit install and will report back with the progress. Thanks again, @ApertureS!
  34. The BMW i3 was greatly underappreciated when in production. The small battery small cars should fill to 80% quick, but 80% of not much is still not much if you arrive with 10% and charge to 80% only that 70% is just giving a very small range. Using 70% only of battery capacity. 'City cars' that can leave the city but you need lots of charging time. Amazing efficiency from the MINI that has a battery of under 30 kWh (28.9) usable and is still a heavy car. Honda-e 28.5 kWh usable. Lots heavier than the Mini Electric. £6-7 for 111 round trip is good compared to petrol. If you go 111 miles with your home charge, and then need to public charge to get back and put in 25 kWh @ 55 pence a kWh than that is £13.75. So 222 miles costing maybe £20. 25x 28 pence at home is £7. Then if you charge at a PodPoint 50kW away from home it can be 28 pence a kWh so another £7. Nice. If you only get 3 miles a kWh in cold weather then your are at a different cost all together. 25 kWh taking you 75 miles and 150 miles for the £14 or the £20. If an ICE gets 55 mpg then 4 gallons @ £8 a gallon = £32. 44 mpg is 5 gallons. £40.
  35. I don't take pictures but often look at my mk1 mx5 parked next to modern stuff and think it looks small ... Even the swift looks big next to it.
  36. The more I look at that photo ^^^^ the more startled I am by it. Gaz
  37. Youre in luck, this is what youre after. https://www.glaskugelservice.de/codierung/dcc-auf-index-c https://github.com/jilleb/MQB-FPA The first link is bringing the DCC module up to the new spec. The second link is the CUSTOM driver profile file you have to make to accommodate the new values 1-15 not 1-3. Should be all you need.

And the waiting game has ended! Ordered 23.8.2021. Pictures on the other thread Infotaimen SW version 1889. Not the newest?
  40. Only just seen all the replies to this topic I started, here is a screenshot (albeit a fairly poor one) of the TPI information that the Skoda techs get from Skoda UK listing the requirements for the update to 1896 and the issues it resolves. Hope this helps some of you
  41. Welcome to one of the many things done by the EU to help us out. Its called the block exemption and helps consumers out and prevents main agents from forcing you to return to them. https://www.gov.uk/cma-cases/motor-vehicle-block-exemption-regulation https://www.theaa.com/driving-advice/service-repair/right-to-repair-campaign
  42. Welcome to the forum.
  43. Today was rear brake pads replacement. New ones from Brembo.
  44. Finally plumped for a new washer bottle so I could get the correct neck part to attach to the coolant tank as you can’t get it separate. Got rid of the cable tie holding the original 😂, also opened up the front lower grill with my dremmel finally
  45. There is a risk of overinflating the front tyres, the nose weight on the towball loads the rear suspension and applies a turning moment about the rear axle unloading the front suspension, this is more noticable with stiff rear springs like on my Yeti, as the jockey wheel is lowered you can visibly see the rear suspension sag and the front suspension rise but the physics are exactly the same for the softer sprung Octavia estates. If you look at the load/pressure icon it shows 3 or 4 passengers plus luggage and its the rear tyres that get the most inflation, the fronts hardly any extra. If you are towing a caravan or trailer without a full complement of passengers and luggage/goods in the rear of the vehicle inflating the front tyres over the standard setting will result in less effective front brakes, thankfully most of us when towing try to avoid anything other than gentle braking but emergency situations may not be foreseeable or avoidable although most often are.
  46. I got fed up of popping the front bumper corners back in as the mounts had broke, so fitted some new ones, also brakes are nicely bedded in. She certainly stops well, I ended up getting a new caliper and carrier for the n/s as it was slightly bent from the original crash damaged donor, so n/s is brand new hub/knuckle, caliper/carrier. Don’t ask me how much lol
  47. Hi, As promised here are the pics of my light settings screens after I bought the extra colours from the store. They may or may not be the same as the standard light settings. If anyone see's any differences can you please point them out. Thanks. John
