So my car is in the country, arrived to Logatec and should be available at the dealers in the beginning of next week. I will take the time and inspect it well before I give them my money.
  2. The lowest point is not being worn away, it is the braking surface that is getting thinner. Same as if they were on a lathe and being skimmed. Pads wearing, discs wearing. They are consumables.
  3. I would say its a quality issue, the grooves are not uniformly deep so they are wearing at different rates.
  4. It's a friction brake. The friction lining (Brake Pad) rubs against the brake disc to create friction to slow the car down. They wear, that's the point of the disc, albeit slowly. You can't put too big or deep a groove in it or you harm the performance of the disc and if you drill the disc it can crack around these. Most people I knew who had proper fast track cars (not off road going through dirty standing water) used solid discs as the extra mass gave better cooling. There's a whole series of possible factors from: Discs are worn out Pads are not applying pressure evenly (that would really only go for the wear ring you see about 1" out from the centre) Discs are not on the hub quite straight (fraction of a mm, meaning a tiny tiny bit more wear on one side of the disk than the other They were not milled consistently (I'd assume a machine did them, so it would be unlikely but you know what they say about assumptions) The material the original disc is made from. Many more Where did you buy them from? Not an e-bay special I hope? What is the wear pattern like on the inside of the disc (Is that face slotted too - it should be and if so is it worn in the same or mirror image) How many miles have you done on them and of what sort of driving. It's normal for slots/groves to wear as the disc wears, but how much depends on the brand. I know some makes had a certain bit wear flat at minimum thickness, so you could easily tell when it was new disc time. Perhaps it's that? I personally wouldn't bother and would put bog standard discs of a decent brand/quality on them (OEM Equivalent brembo for example) Regardless of what we all say, I would be getting the brakes checked by a qualified person if you are not 100% certain what you're doing as they are the one thing not to take any chances on.
  5. Don't forget if you replace the battery it needs to be coded to the car so that the car knows it has been replaced.
  6. Unless the side window is broken by someone breaking into the car they don't often break. Even less reason for glass replacement companies to hold stock.
  7. All good, I probably needed coffee!
  8. A pandemic A war A loss of manufacturing Critical changes in oil/energy prices Lack of shipping resources .... JIT is great when everything is perfect and predictable. The sticking loads in a warehouse costs too much. Sadly what is needed is ARTBIRN (Just made up) - A reasonable time before it's really needed, where goods are shipped in half warehouse quantities, such that the warehouse holds enough to deal with a reasonable period of time of work continuation should an oops happen. Essentially when you've used half your stock, fill up again rather than waiting until it's nearly empty. As for the side window... I doubt it's a common parts, so they might have one of each type in a central warehouse if you're lucky, but probably not as it would cost much £££ to do so for all the popular cars. Front screens yes, possibly some others for very common cars, but not all of them.
  9. Thanks @Bogwoppit - nice to see an official document showing the leather seat upgrade! Will have a look online to see if this brochure is available. I have x2 copies of the limited edition brochure to go along with my car. I had another one but someone 'misplaced' it when my car was displayed by Skoda earlier this year for the launch of the new Fabia 😔 Skoda were displaying all the previous Fabia's and asked could they use mine in the showroom. I will put a post up soon about it. @softscoop - some super rare Fabia combinations on that Czech website, I love it! I have spent the morning trawling through the various Fabia RS's and found another one with the fold down centre arm rest (and head rest for bonus points): Skoda fabia rs 1.9TDI 96kw - Praha 1 | Bazoš.cz (bazos.cz) Another one with the rare Gear Stick lock (manual cars): Fabia rs 1,9tdi 96kw - Praha 4 | Bazoš.cz (bazos.cz) Must get back to work here and stop getting distracted 😏
  10. I had the alternator and battery on my MY16 Octavia replaced under warranty in the first year of ownership due to the stop-start not functioning. The cheapskates at the supplying dealer replaced the original AGM with a Moll EFB! - which still tests OK at 6 years, but I do 'nurse' it with an occasional charge because of frequently doing fairly short runs.
  11. This is a reasonably common issue. Easiest way round this is to drop the bottom 32mm nut of the underneath of the oil cooler, remove the through bolt and swing the cooler matrix out of the way. You will spill the contents of the filter housing and you will need to replace the two oil cooler gaskets when you reassemble. 25nm to torque the 32mm nut/cap back up when you're done. This way you can get straight onto the bolt head for the crank sensor, give it a good clean off before you try an undo it as it'll be covered in rust and muck down there. From memory its a multi point head on the bolt so make sure the tools are handy in advance
  12. Thanks, I've figured them all by myself. I have very good news, my engine is now fully rebuilt, it started at first crank and it's working fine. I've even made a quick 5 mile test drive and it seems to have more power than before (probably because I've cleaned it thoroughly). I've also measured the cylinder compression and I have 11kPa for 1-3 and 10.5kPa on cylinder 4. This was the most complex car repair I've ever done and being successful boosted my confidence a lot. The most complex tasks in order of difficulty were: - putting back on the left engine bracket (with the 3xM10 spline screws) - installing the intake manifold - connecting the 3 pipes back to the turbo exhaust (under the car with space for just one hand).
  13. If they actually used JIT, they'd more or less always be out of stock of more or less everything. If they use a re-order level, they can still run out if they get a peak in demand for $part.
  14. Hi all. I retrofitted the virtual cockpit and had it coded remotely a few weeks back, all fine. I wasn't able to fit the fibre optic at the time because I have the Canton sound system so needed to buy/make a fibre optic splitter. I installed the fibre optic and splitter yesterday but am having trouble with the maps displaying all messed up. Sound is working fine and the map display is changing as I move so I'm happy the physical installation is OK. I spoke to the guy who coded the cluster in and followed instructions to disconnect cluster power attach fibre to MIB and then cluster and reapply power. All combinations of connections result in the same output on the clusters MIB firmware is v1440, cluster firmware is 1710 Has anyone any ideas what to do here??
  15. .... they can't be that shoddy? Instructions are crap, different sized feet for the front and rear and no instructions on which is front or rear, there's 2 holes on the car where I assume the expensive skoda bars fit, the Cruz ones just have one peg so does it matter which hole and does that affect how the bar sits in the frame of the door when shut? Really struggling with this. https://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4_tab.php/roofbars/cruz_optiplus_120cm_roof_bars_2_no_st_120_921_310_/Qx%40w%2C6M4gNax5vN1Yv0vegd3uHKClPkQYUDS1%40ZwrhrVzg1cH1LNLTs`f6vf3xRAH
  16. The attached photos may give you an idea of whats actually behind the dash panel to help visualize it. Happy fishing
  17. I think you will find that the mode of operation of energy recuperation VW uses normally prevents the alternator from charging the battery more than 60-75% - this to allow battery capacity for the energy recovered under recuperation conditions - which, on shorter trips is limited and does not normally get the battery anywhere near 100% charged. It is not ideal for these types of battery to be undercharged for extended periods.
  18. As ken alluded to, just sitting with it on and moving the flap position "manually" a large number of times by pressing the button for feet, windscreen, face over and over whilst also setting lo and hi over and over might be enough to free something. It's worth a try for nothing. I think the diagnostic tools might be able to do some playing around with this too.
  19. @varooom sorry, if sounded impolite, English isn't my native. but Your answer weren't connected to tread title and @midlanquestion
  20. Wish you luck but it'd be the first I've heard of anyone receiving 'goodwill' after they had a service carried outside the dealer network. I suspect the answer will something along the lines of - "If there was a manufacturing fault then our approved service agent would have noted this at the 1st service ( 15k ? ). Defo no harm in trying tho, I'd be doing the same. Regarding your earlier post, Skoda UK or any importer for that matter, do not 'hide' behind their dealer network as their job is only to advice and liase - basically try and keep the customer happy. They have to rely on their dealer network physically examining so have no option but to refer you back to the dealer. They should have a complaints procedure to follow if you wish to complain about one of their dealers tho. From our point of view, Skoda UK is just a person behind a desk who, to be fair to them, will also work for VW UK, Audi UK, SEAT UK etc. It's a bit off your dealer provided poor customer service and then charge prices higher than advertised. It's up to the individual dealer if they want to reduce prices to compete with local businesses, but I've never heard of one charging more than the advertised price. What were you having done and what price did they quote you? As for rougue dealers, every manufacturer is the same. You mention Volvo. One of the most frustrating experience's I had was from a Volvo dealer in Glasgow who seemed to see problems at every corner, the Perth dealership sorted out the issue without blinking an eye. Guess which dealer received all my future business when I owned Volvos. Vote with your feet is my advice.
  21. I fitted a 'new' cluster and had it programmed but it had a backlight fault so I had to remove it for repairing. When it came to refitting, I need to increase the mileage to account for the time when it had been removed. The software I used was: https://mhhauto.com/Thread-MQB-VAG-Virtual-cockpit-Editor-EXTENDED-VERSION although it was cheaper when I bought it. If you do need the mileage increasing, I'm happy to help as per this post: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/489327-mqb-instrument-cluster-odometermileage-increase-service/ Yes, up is easy but possibly time consuming. As mentioned before, I've heard rumours there is a down solution but I've no first hand experience. I expect it's fine but I'm no expert on VC. Most my experience comes from retrofitting the one in my Octavia. I've certainly used Aliexpress to buy various other modules without problem in the past. If you currently have a rear washer jet, you just need to T into the existing pipework. Not sure where the washer jet is on a Superb so you may need to replace the pipe for a longer one. On a 2019 Superb, there is no wireless Carplay option. If you already have Carplay, there are a number of 3rd party adaptors that connect to the cars USB socket to add wireless Carplay or Android Auto. I've never used any so I don't have any recommendations.
  22. Unlikely to have been manufactured like that and if they were it would have been immediately apparent visually as the groove width would be reduced. The second picture could fit that description if the disc was not located correctly at 90° to the cutter axis but if you look that too is showing more wear at the centre of the pad area like the other disc. Putting a straight edge across the pad swept area will show the uneven wear which would be exactly the same on an ungrooved (they are not slotted) disc. It's a 3rd world problem of the same ilk as red painted brake calipers looking dirty.
  23. I boast i have done 35,000 miles with under £150 paid for electric including £40 for 2 CPS cards. I might manage to stay under £150 to the end of this year. Once Stirling & Ayrshire North & South start charging to charge i will be paying for electric to drive an EV. South Ayrshire has been talking about it for over a year and people at Stirling Park & Ride tell me it will end soon. Good. and the sooner there are 100 kW chargers available the better. Commercial or Council provided and tax payer subsidised with fees paid and proper maintenance & reliability. CPS cards and apps are often not reliable and tapping a Debit or Credit card at a CPS charger can be simple, and then you pay right there and then and do not wait weeks for the CPS Account and payment.
  24. A picture of them when new and how the slots were machined would be marvellous. Were the grooves of even depths the full length of them or deeper at one end? Saying who these discs are maybe by or sold by would be super-duper. How long and how many miles /km has been done using them would be interesting. IMO. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/455363-aftermarket-brake-pads-or-brake-set
  25. For anyone curious, here are the figures published by Skoda for fuel consumption and gearing, as applied to facelift models. Note that the LPG model is included, as are automatic versions, plus Greentech variants, so read carefully! Combined fuel consumption is the same for manual 60ps & 75ps manuals, but oddly, the urban fuel consumption of the non-Greentech 60-ps is listed as a tad more than the non-Greentech 75ps for reasons I don't see (as far as I know, the test cycle wouldn't have involved going above 4300rpm, but i don't have the test details at hand - this is not great for showing fuel economy!) Also, the fuel consumption listed is in litres per 100km, so a bigger number means lower MPG.
  26. All I can tell you is what the service department told me..... I'm picking the car up about midday so I'll check which software code is showing.... I assume though that when the car goes back in (Whenever that is) for the new "Head" they will change the software to suit.....
  27. Think that's what Andy was getting at; the depth of the grooves not being uniform around the disc, so the shallower ones have already worn away. Warping could also account for it, but I reckon that'd be horrendous to drive. Gaz
  28. Black/blue feed, brown/red earth.
  29. That seems very reasonable costs to me. I think free open to all council chargers are unfair to local council tax payers as people who do not contribute to local taxes reap the benefits also. It did feel odd rocking up to a charger, getting 50kW and not paying - I felt like a 'cheeky git' knowing the local council would be footing my bill. I'm not surprised that Local Authorities are moving to a pay to use model. Local Authorities around here are just starting to put chargers in to their car parks and prices are more commercial at 40-55p a kWh. I think most if not all will be happy paying the 30p/kWh price, even those who cannot charge at home.
  30. After month of testing this module, I am little sad about it. I am experiencing the same issue described in this thread. Sometimes after I manually enable start-stop manually by pressing the button (shutting down the engine), module after about 2 seconds disables start-stop unexpectedly (effectively starting the engine). Did someone fix this issue? Maybe some capacitor or resistor needs to be changed on the PCB?
  31. Finally took delivery of my car in September (got it held for a few weeks so it had a nice 72 reg) but I forgot to upload any photos.
  32. Maybe @Damian@DPM http://dpmperformance.co.uk
  33. It's defo the warning triangle. Not a requirement in the UK but think all or most mainland European countries have a legal requirement to carry a warning triangle.
  34. I'm always a bit conscious of charging the Octavia on a public charger over those who have a pure electric, but it helps my fuel economy and is that not what we are trying to do? That said I try to avoid shared rapid chargers and it's been hard to get on a charger now - indeed a Leaf owner was queuing the other night and a Tesla was circulating a 2 space charger. I was happy to jump off for the Leaf owner who seemed very distressed! Not helped by the Volvo who had been on 6 hours and was sitting full for the hour I'd been there. Changing to charged tariffs with overstay fees need to be done soon and councils are introducing it quickly as the rise in home electricity prices is seeing more EV owners taking the cheap options. Free charging is going to end soon enough and those who got in early had a few years of it being good, but the rapid rise in EVs and the energy market costs will kill it, indeed charging issues and costs might hamper EV take up. For me, the PHEV takes around 3 hours and 11kWh to charge from empty-ish to full which gets you around 35 miles of EV range. If I use the nearest paid one to me I pay £0.19kWh. At £7.50-£8 a gallon of fuel, I make breakeven 0.53p kwh where costs mean I may as well use petrol - the charger in Morrisons is currently 57p/kWh. Given rapid chargers (which the Octavia can't use) are already 60p+ and Osprey saying they are now going to £1 kWh that shows the costs of electric now.

Nice to see and read good news, keep it up 👍. Since this morning MyŠkoda app allows me to continue with registering the vehicle (before the service was unavailable after entering VIN), I hope this means some movement of the car in my direction 😉

So my wait if finally over too. Czech dealer received the car last friday. Send me a pictures. Its RS liftback, 2.0 TSI, 6 manual, with some extras like premium seats, blind spot, sun shades on back doors, heated steering wheel, accoustic front glass, wireless charging, etc. Besides that, there are waiting on me a 19´´ Taurus wheels at the dealership (18´´ Comet gonna be a winter wheels). Gonna pick them up with the car 3/10/2022 and then send you some pictures guys. Its gonna be long wait now 😕 Ordered 21/6/2021, so 15 months of wait. 😄

  40. Here are some photos from an April 2005 brochure, and the leather interior on the vRS isn't an option:

  43. Finally got the wheels refurbed! I went with gloss black in the end and I'm happy with my choice, I really struggled to find a photo of the Extremes in black on a Race Blue car so hopefully the below photos will help someone else in the future. Unfortunately the weather was awful on the hour drive home and now the car is filthy so I need to give it a clean. Initial pics below, definitely needs lows now though!
  44. The government is now subsidising energy costs by providing funding to keep the price cap at £2500 for two years. This cap is based on a typical energy usage, so people will still pay for what they use, but at a capped rate. We are on a fixed deal for electricity and gas until March and April 2023 respectively. I'm hoping that this allows Octopus Energy to continue offering an off-peak rate of 7.5p/kWh for two years and possibly reduce it, although a contract is in force. Octopus claim to provide green energy, which is cheaper to produce than fossil fuel, so I wonder whether there is scope for a further reduction?
  45. Almost like a plastic scraping sound? Pretty common, it will be one of the heater box directional flaps either sticking or not greased sufficiently. Now the only thing is, depending on what system you have there are 5/6 of them. 1. Recirculation 2. Drivers temp 3. Passenger temp 4. Flow direction 5. Windscreen flow direction 6. (Optional) rear temp control It is a job of working out what one is making the noise. Even then it is not a nice job, most of them are buried DEEP behind the dashboard and awkward to get to.
