  1. 2021 Skoda Octavia fitted with Blind spot assistant Cross traffic alert We have previously fitted this car with a genuine reversing camera www.eastyorkshireretrofits.co.uk facebook.com/Eastyorkshireretrofits
  2. Since they both use the EA888 engine that's extremely unlikely 🙃
  3. Funny! On Saturday I'm picking up mine! I didn't even see it before; I was expecting some pictures from my dealer, but apparently she was too busy for that... Long story short, in preparation for the pickup I printed the list with all the characteristics of the car (both standard and the optional ones). Of course, I won' t check all the bullet points of that list (it has 2 pages), but it will be used as a reminder for what the car should have and what not...
  4. Mine is the same - £20 I think for a courtesy car at a routine service now. They waived it for me this time round as a goodwill gesture. All of the authorised repairers/service shops pledge to be able to offer you a free lift back home or to your local place of work (if within 10 miles) and drop the car back to you at that location all for free. They don't like doing it tough so don't be surprised if the charge for a courtesy car simply evaporates when you say you want all of that 🙂 Problem is that you will probably be hanging around for ages waiting for the courtesy lift so if its a scheduled service then its probably just easier and less stressful to get it booked in for 9am and tell them you will wait. If you are lucky you might get it back by midday 🙂 This is a screen print from Skoda's website: Some of the dealers (e.g. a certian Seat dealer about 20 miles from me) even offered to take me all the way home and drive the car back to me at completion for free - all part of the service of this small independent (but authorised service agent) for all VAG cars. The 10 miles is the minimum and anything above that varies from dealer to dealer I expect. In addition to this, If you have a factory warranty still or an extended package like the All-in-one with them, and the car is in for a warranty claim then, as long as you go via Skoda Assist, you are entitled to a free hire car for a few days and then the repairing garage apparently has to provide a courtesy car free of charge for you after that (I was told this by Skoda Assist). It surprised me because it was initially going to take at least 1-2 weeks to fix my wifes car (as the window motor failed under warranty) when she called the garage direct. On the call they made no mention of using Skoda Assist to get a free hire car. They did not even suggest calling Skoda Assist (which in hindsight was pretty poor of them - I guess they knew it was not going to be to their advantage for her to do so). They would not offer a free courtesy car on the phone to her. We both said "B*gger that for a game of soldiers" and we called Skoda Assist (as the car was not safe to leave with the window down and non-operational). They came to our house within 30 minutes, diagnosed the fault, taped up the window hole (it was raining) and then followed us to the garage. We left the car with the service centre (who looked very "po faced") about the whole situation. They also treated the Skoda Assist man like dirt which also surprised me (but not him by all accounts). The Skoda assist man gave us a free lift back home (as the hire car was not available until the following morning). The hire car was delivered to our home address. Due to engaging with the stealership in this manner the repair went from 1-2 weeks (with no car) to under 48 hours. It's funny how the repair was done in under 48 hours when the garage knew they were going to have to supply a free loaner car for anyting above the 48 hours. Lesson Learned! I had a long chat with the Skoda Assist man on the way home and he did say that some of the service centres are good like this, some are bad and some are just plain ugly (mine apparently was the latter of the three - the worst he had ever seen were his precise words). Skoda Assist were exemplary 10/10 🙂
  5. You will be amazed how many cars are handed over with things turned off, passenger airbag, emergency braking radar etc. Check spare wheel (if specified) or what is under the boot floor, and put a rear seat forward (always indicates how well prepped it is) If you have a tyre pressure gauge (even a pencil type) see what they are set at (even compare the tyres to check about same area is flat against the ground, give away if all inflated differently), don’t forget to check the spare (most salesmen will have a gauge in their desk drawer if you don’t own one.
  6. This is often the case with garages especially dealers where if no fault codes come up on the computer they don't have a clue. The cynic in me says that the diagnostic fee is just a free money maker. I often find open forums like this know the answer better than the people we pay it fix the problem. I had a problem on my old 52 plate Octavia with a faulty mass flow sensor but the garage couldn't find the fault after three visits and kept blaming bad fuel, it took me a bout 30 mins search on Briskoda to solve the issue......

I am sadly old enough to remember driving 4 speed manuals, then 5 then 6... Overdrives etc.... I can not say I have never looked down or 'touched' the gearstick to check what gear it is in... It worse when you own cars with 5 gears and 6 gears, driving down the motorway in 5th before you remember it has 6!! As cars have got quieter its harder to 'hear' the gear you are in and as dull as it sounds cognitive failure (jumping between cars with different number of gears) happens.
  8. That’s exactly what it is
  9. Has the 1.8TSI Octavia 3 got a timing belt? I was under the impression that it's an EA888 engine which has a timing chain?
  10. -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/501427-filler-cap-stuck-query/?do=findComment&comment=5629365
  11. Ahh the freezing south, i so worry for all down there as winter hits you hard and early. Regardless of your tyres fitted then anyone that does drive where field run off freezes you know you are up sh-it creek without a paddle when you hit sheet ice if not paying attention.

    He’s got DSG, automatic?
  13. It's the rotary connection between the steering wheel/Airbag and the fixed wiring loom
  14. No. the logic being - if your engine is that gummed up that it needs a additive/thinner to get the old oil out, then the least of your worries should be the oil itself and more what’s caused it, what else has it damaged and why hasn’t it been serviced on time. drop the oil, change the filter, by the time the filter change is done, 99% of the oil will have drained
  15. Had it out for a bit, its running fantastic Boosting well, gear changes are superb. Still open downpipe, had a look under it and I wasn't bothered trying to get the exhaust back together this evening. If anyone knows what backbox this is, or what company this sticker belongs to, I'd love to know
  16. I may have mentioned the alternator before, once or twice, it's breaking down under load which can't easily be tested.
  17. High likelihood it's a 90A unit, only the MPI is different from memory.
  18. If this is the ea888 engine then your mechanic needs to be replaced.... They have a chain to start with The water pump is not a part of the camshaft drive system and has no bearing on it or a service interval Thermal management is the thermostat body full of valves and electronic solenoids, again this is bolted to the water pump and only needs changing if its leaking. Definitely sounds like they are having you on. *this is all on the basis its the ea888 engine. If you upload a photo of your engine we can let you know*
  19. I have an older 1.4tsi so keep an eye on associated topics but cannot remember any previous issue like yours over the last 7 years. I had a water pump failure after 5 years ownership but even that is relatively rare with this petrol engine.
  20. Thanks I will update as and when
  21. No call back, 4 times not actually transferred from reception to service desk, dead lined twice now, hanging in again. So this is pretty much Arnold Clark as usual. Best dealt with early in the morning. or never. LOL. I can not download the video. Maybe later though. Hopefully they send on to Motability and if not i will be doing. What a rusty mess of a car underneath, but then it is 2 years past August since First Registered and kept outside in Scotland & driven on salted and gritted roads. It was build nearly a year before registered and then held up pre transit and during transit because of lockdown. The brakes need serious servicing and replacing of discs and as for suspension parts they will be interesting to see in 10 months time when in for a MOT. There is a lot to be said for rear drum brakes on an EV. EDIT. PS So i will knock that on the head until i hear the car is ready to collect. If the work advised on the Health Check video has not been carried out then i will not be collecting it until done. If Motability says it was not really required to be done then i will not be collecting it, ever.
  22. You may be able to sustain this by the use of a technical dexterity, fingers crossed, but not whilst driving.
  23. A good functional solution that will undoubtedly be much more powerful, the only downside I can see is that the unswept area of the disc will rust badly with no way to keep it clean and the MOT tester will probably fail it. With front brakes like that you won't even NEED back brakes and the ABS will be working overtime to stop them locking every time you touch the pedal.
  24. Corsa electric still with dealership. Before servicing the Recall actions were being done. Software update. Seemingly it was at 97% and the system crashed. So tomorrow they will try again. This might be a Robert the Bruce's spider type event. PS. EDIT. Health Check video arrived. Rear Discs shagged, Pads OK. They advise replacing. Front OK need a clean up. A bit of scoring. *Actually crap and need more than an Italian Tune Up, or Skimming.* That is for them To strip & clean. The car is in for Servicing & Maintenance. 4 Tyres OK. depth OK. **Should be Michelin Alpin 6 fitted. ** (Not actually OK, there is a cut front drivers side wall which seems to have been missed.) They are my tyres though and i will deal with. So the Tech seems to not know it is a Motability Car & they will be getting it done and after they tell Motability, not me. Tells me the Coolant is low, they topped up, ran the car, no visible leaks. Advice might need to come in again for investigation. Well it is an Electric car. It is the Heat Pump system, slow drop. Setting it's own level and if no checks can be done now what are they going to do? Currently on hold waiting, to tell them to go call Mobility, tell them the rip off price to replace all 4 discs not the just the very scored rears and one front scored disc, and new pads. For once they are correct in advice to replace.
  25. Yes Seat is 0369, will PM in a moment
  26. Other way round... It should be an 8 pin connector and it'll have either 5 or 8 wires. I say that as the headlight range dial uses 3, the LED backlighting use 2 so I'd expect 5 to be populated. The final 3 would be the backlight brightness dial but as Skoda don't tend to add unused wires, you might find these are missing
  27. Brilliant; found and done!👍🏻

Only a very poor or inexperienced driver looks down at the gearlever and JettaMC22 did not say thats what they did. I frequently touch the gearlever to make sure I am actually in 6th gear, the ratios are so close its easy to remain in 5th and not realise the need to change up, sometimes the car feels a little too reactive to the throttle to be in 6th but it actually is. I should add that following Malaria I have zero short term memory and having sight in only one eye I would never take it off the road ahead to look at the gear display on the dashboard, I probably look like an dopey old fart to a passenger tapping the gearlever but its the safest way.
  29. Thank you to every single person who contributed to this. Just to add my experience, I used a bent credit card to remove the pen face and had it off in about 90 seconds with no damage. I bent the credit card about a third of the way up it so was like a lever if that makes sense.
  30. I think it's just a metal hanger for displaying/storing them on racks?
  31. We have a 2012 1.4 TSI DSG Octavia and I recently drove a family members Leon with the same 1.4 TSI also from 2012. I've also been a passenger in this car several times. I have to say that the interior quality of the Octavia feels so much better. The dashboard in the Leon feels a bit cheap and plastic compared to the Octavia. I also prefer the ride comfort and handling of the Octavia. I seem to think the Leon got a solid rear axle beam as standard and just the sportier models got independent rear suspension. The Octavia of this time period got it as standard.
  32. @mrvinylWelcome. PIP Motability component is £64.50 a week, so full allowance to pay a car from Motability is £258 each 4 weeks. It is £279.50 a month. Still good value, but then unless a low or nil advance payment which is mostly on EV's now unless a car manufacturers want rid of that is at least £10,062 over 3 years. That is all in with Servicing, no VED, insurance included. You do not need to lose your NCB anymore while on a 3 year lease or as a named driver with Motability. Insurers will look at your Accident history or claims and might allow 5 years of not holding a personal pollcy. This has been the case for quite a few years now. I first went with Motability in 1978 and have had 11 cars in that time, some on lease and 2 bought using HP when they did that. I used to need my own cars as well as 12,000 miles a year was not enough, going to 20,000 miles a year was a game changer. I have done 35,000 miles in my EV in 26 months and am still under £150 in what it has cost me in Electricity & 2 CPS cards. They were £20 each. @WolfiefromWolves Have you looked at EV's like a MG or even a Kia / Hyundai as an option? ................................................................................................................. Motability SUV's in Petrols & Diesels might be available on the list.but the advance payments are a factor. There are sometimes good deals in a quarter if they suit what anyone is after. This is what the lower Advance payment ones are in the normal list this quarter. Bottom list is from this Quarters Highlights.
  33. I trust you got a hefty discount.
  34. Thank you NTA16! Exactly what I was looking for. Really appreciate it.

Thanks, I’ve seen this on YouTube ! Mine hasn’t got the little square section where it shows the point to insert the screw driver, therefore I was concerned about applying a greater force !
  36. personally for the money id stay on the motability scheme, costs you 250 a month and all you have to spend is fuel where as private ownership will see a finance or pcp deal because i certainly would not buy outright with the 2nd hands that will flood the market soon when all new ones arrive driving down the value even further plus youve then got the cost of insurance so while you have been on a motability contract you would of lost any no claims bonus (i made this mistake) tyres, servicing, breakdown costs as well
  37. Better to ask forgiveness if caught in my experience.
  38. Set about getting this fired up this evening. Had a bit more work to do than I realised, biggest headache out of this whole thing was fitting the return properly. Mounted it to the turbo at first but found out it needs to be fitted to the block first, THEN you need to somehow slip a gasket onto the piece connected to the turbo and tighten all up. Must have took 40 minutes to just sort that out. Nearly gave up there it was that bad. Pushed through, changed the oil, got the downpipe on and gave it a few cranks to build oil pressure. I pulled the fuse for the "diesel computer", fuse 14 on this, so it would crank but not fire. Seriously good battery on this, same battery that came with it all I did was charge it. Made sure to record the first start up Died after a few seconds seemingly run out of fuel. After cranking it a bit more it fired again and stayed on this time. Changing the fuel filter must have got air in somewhere. Gave it a few revs even, found where the popcorn limiter is on it Not brave enough to let it pop and bang away just yet. Didn't even move it under its own power but I was happy to leave it there for tonight. Extremely impressed at how healthy that engine sounds, given the miles and having bought It with a grenaded turbo. I'll take it for a few laps next day.

Try YouTube a golf mark 5 will be the same. Gives you the confidence to ensure you are not going to break it trying to prise it open.
  40. Hello, Press and hold down your menu button for 10 seconds or so, then you will enter the hidden menu with Software Train information and update button for firmware.
  41. I only flush an engine if he oil has jellified, I drain it and put 1/4 back and then fill with parafin to the lower dipstick mark, then I run it at a fast idle until at operating temperature and for 5 minutes more. If you do this take extra precautions against scolding your forearms when draining, it will shoot out much further than sump oil.
  42. For a normal, smart charger, there will be no issues with charging the battery while still on the vehicle - important to follow the instruction that the Negative charger connector be attached to the metal tag on the firewall - NOT to the battery Negative post.
  43. The Hankook Kinergy 4S2 has a high wear rate. Only 63.63% of the mileage of the best tyre in this test. https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Auto-Bild-All-Season-Tyre-Test.htm
  44. I replaced very noisy bridgetones on my vrs ,same size as yours i believe ,with avon zv7s ,really changed my car noise wise so much quieter .
  45. Reminds me of an incident many years ago when a colleague had a week old Ford Orion company car that he took the family to West Midlands safari park. He was driving through the Giraffe enclosure when a baby Giraffe walked between the two lanes of cars, fell and hit the A post, breaking the screen, bending the A post and door frame. The picture he drew for the insurance claim form was hysterical! The Giraffe was fine by the way.
  46. I haven't managed to fully understand all the details, but some Skodas (not clear from an account that doesn't include the engine code if this is one of them) have a variable volume water pump, which sometimes sticks giving symptoms like overheating. That you don't report any symptoms other than high engine temperature makes me think this may well be the case. The bad news is that I'm afraid it doesn't really leave any "evidence" that engine diagnostics will find.
  47. Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything. Always with servicing and maintenance many start with one of the least important parts of the car. Priority should always be given to brakes, steering and suspension (all three included tyres) then on to visibility (see and be seen, lights, wipers, glass, number plates, etc.) and safety electrics (wipers, heater blower, horn, hazards, etc.). I go along with what Murdockman has put plus a forgotten but important air filter, if you're looking at and the spark plugs every two years you might as well renew the air filter at the same time. I'd also look at changing the gearbox oil on a manual box particularly as it's so easy. Also look after your battery and main cables and connections, keep the battery from getting too low charge and all cable and wire connections clean, secure and protected. If you're going to be doing a lot of short journeys, say under15- 20 miles, and very few much longer journeys then you might want to consider buying an appropriate battery charger or maintenance charger. As put before don't overlook the tyres even if they have plenty of tread above the legal minimum (which is only really good in dry warm weather) tyres get hard with age and/or lack of use and can deteriorate particularly if the vehicle is kept outside and as I put tyres are an important part of the vehicle's braking, and steering and suspension. The most important things to keep clean (and clear) are windows, lights and number plates. Good luck.
  48. Latest Updated Speedcams - November, 2021. Here's the latest update of my customised version of EUR Speedcams ( November, 2021). They consist of the full EUROPE speed cameras which I've split up into four consolidated poi categories i.e. Fixed Speedcams, Average Speedcams, Variable Speedcams and Redlight Speedcams. They come supplied with my own preferred personal choice of icons, shown below, to match each of the categories. Remember to Install them as I explained in the first post in this thread i.e. after extracting the zip file remember to open the newly extracted folder and place only the PersonalPOI folder and metainfo2.txt file onto your sd card ( Please Note: a usb stick will not work! ). Also, please remember to select/tick the relevant newly added poi categories and the poi audible warning alert in your infotainment map menu settings after performing the update or they will not display on your map or audibly alert you. Hope you all enjoy them! EUR Speedcams November, 2021.zip
