  1. Update to the original post, the car passed the MOT today with no advisories. But for what it costs I am going to change the rotting backplates, they are mega cheap and I have plenty of bolts in stock. Thanks for all of the replies team.👍
  2. Well after my Bilstein B4, Eibach Pro kit, top mounts, arb drop links, Clubsport GTi rarb had been sat in the garage for nearly 9 months now for my VRS. They were finally fitted to my car today and what a transformation. It feels like a new car and the road noise has decreased massively. I have only driven it a mile but what a difference. The car is not bumpy and feels very compliant over the bumpy roads. The car turns in more keenly and feels a lot more positive. Money well spent!

It looks like situation is getting better, first I had estimated delivery date KW 16 in 2023, now its changed to KW 8. So 2 months less! :) I really hope that gas and energy limitation wouldn't affect delivery dates :/ Ordered Octavia ambition 2.0 TDI 85kw manual on april 15th
  4. The Internet is brimming with anecdotal nonsense, let me give you a recent example: I was repairing an Alfa 16V TS that had eaten its cambelt immediately followed by all sixteen valves for pudding. Rebuilding the existing head would have been prohibitively expensive so I sourced a guaranteed good secondhand head from a specialist breakers. The owner called me in a panic, he'd been reading on the interwebs a widely circulated myth that you have to replace all the big end shells when this engine bends the valves as the sudden load on the piston will dent the shells! I kid you not! Anyway I had to calmly explain that it wasn't necessary because if the bottom end were that fragile then the big end shells wouldn't survive the internal combustion process either. He then asked if we could do it just to be on the safe side, so I said no, I'd finish the work we'd agreed needed to be done then when the engine was restarted if there was any noise from the bottom end I'd investigate further. Needless to say all was well and it was just a load of anecdotal internet mythology, which is a polite euphemism for a load of something else!
  5. If you have the 6 speed DQ250 I offer it for with a online service history update and print out; £150 using oe spec parts £239 using genuine parts (I believe dealers are £250/260 now but may be wrong) Edit: Skoda charge £257.06 near me.
  6. People will post whatever they wish to. Has battery charging come up yet, I don't read everyone's posts? 😁

    @MaximusMeridius Oh, my bad. 🙂

I think you misunderstood. I assume he took over a different order (car on stock). This is not his original order that came with wrong configuration.
  9. Really enjoyed ourselves back in Blighty, caught up with family and friends and having not been back for 5 years it was a bit of a reminder that none of us are getting any younger. The decision to visit was taken at short notice and totally unplanned but we managed to do see and do lots of new things I had not experienced when I lived in the UK for the first thirty years of my life. Bird watching on the north Norfolk coast, day trips around the villages and stately houses and gardens of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex; six days on a narrow boat on the canals around Chester (fantastic experience) and apparently I am a natural at driving them, I think due to the fact the heavily laden trollies I push around at work have rear castors. If you are into that sort of thing then I recommend the Wedgewood museum in Stoke on Trent I'd also recommend the real "hidden" treasure of Kenwood House on the Northern edge of Hampstead Heath. It is a beautiful Robert Adams (notable 18th century Scottish Architect) designed mansion with a wonderful art collection (Rembrandt, Van Dyke, Turner, Gainsborough etc) that have to be seen in person to be really appreciated. Funnily enough while the building and collection are great in themselves it is not a good gallery. For instance going from one room to another I noticed a relatively modest portrait mounted awkwardly above the high door and I actually said out loud to myself "Oh you look familiar", the room attendant heard me and said "that's a Van Dyke". Not the best way to view it but entry was free so I could hardly complain. Back now in Adelaide with souvenirs, me with a cold (caught in the last three days the UK) and my wife with Covid caught on the flight back 😞 Lots of other views of what has changed (good and bad) I may put in another post.
  10. Whilst I agree with your point about a technical spec being met or not, I don’t think you need to be quite so blunt. That first line of your reply just isn’t needed. @chimaera There might be some specs where it can be somewhat beaten, but dot4 is well understood. Plus it’s Brembo, so I’d say it’s much of a muchness. For example I used to run DOT 5.1 when I was doing a lot of autobahn driving as having to hit the brakes hard at 140mph when a caravan pulled out in front of you left the brakes spongy. It’s better at high brake temperatures, but I seem to remember less good at other aspects such as water absorption requiring more frequent changes. If it was me I’d just use fresh unopened tubs of a decent brand of dot 4.
  11. Just been for a walk in the dark and was lucky enough to spot the moon peeking over the trees on the way back

Picked up my my new car monday 3rd October, so that was approx 16 months wait. And the car is not the one I originally ordered as that is still not built as far as I know. The car I got is velvet red and has the panorama roof, my original order was moon white and no panorama. Other than that they are identical, so got this rather than wait any longer. Driven 1000km in the first week, apart from annyoing fake engine noise and a bit dissapointing sound from the Canton, Im quite happy. Havent been able to edit the Excel sheet to update, so if someone is able to do so, that would be great.

Think I’ve got this right from memory been mentioned before about a filter that clogs up but skoda don’t recognise it as a service part and doesn’t get changed when the Haldex system is due. might be worth doing a search
  14. No coding until you have the bits that need coding, the fridge wiring feed should be there, but it is down to the towball fitter to connect it up - some don't, so make sure you ask for 13 pin fully wired (or 7S fully wired).
  15. Just signed up so will get some info up tomorrow. Along with pictures as it looks better in the light!
  16. Great disc mate. I’ve just ordered some more from there and I’ve used the brembo xtra pads
  17. Every intention of keeping the Zoe long term as it has quite good range and is super cheap to run. It is just that the sub £50k EVs do not compete as practical for those 300 mile round trip visits I do quite often. If company was doing salary sacrifice for EV I could afford to get something good enough to a main work car but subsidies and/or salary sacrifice needs to come in plus improved road network for chargers in the west side of England.
  18. Towbar prep includes the wiring (can't answer about the gauge of the wire for the fridge) but doesn't include coding - it can't because towbar prep does not include the trailer module so something that isn't there can't be coded and other modules that need to know the trailer module is there (ABS, BCM, etc.) can't be coded as it's there when it's not present without them throwing lots of error codes.

Ideally you want to find a garage that has experience of Haldex. Many say they do but I was amazed by various VAG specialists in Central Scotland that do not change the removable filter. At 2013 yours will be Gen 4 I would think so will have the removable filter. I bought the kit from here... Gen 4 Haldex Pump Replacement Kit for VW Audi Seat Skoda 0AY598549A – Haldex Parts and ECU Repairs by Auto Fault Finder Ltd (haldexrepairs.co.uk) Good service and genuine parts (that was 4 years ago I think). I got a local tuning/upgrade company in Glasgow who have Haldex experience to change everything out and I think it was £120 The pump is the expensive part unfortunately. Have you put a code reader on your car to check what codes are coming up ? The Haldex Repairs site above has some very good information pages on the subject. I still bitterly bang the drum that despite following the Skoda servicing schedule, my pump burned out and I had to get it replaced lol ! I now do the fluid and filter every two years instead of the recommended 3. Cheers
  20. Every 15,000km I'm in Ireland.
  21. I don't need to know the spec. I can look it up, that's why specs are written down!
  22. Exhaust located - couldn't get any sense out of the lad with a supposed Milltek back box so based on the research I've done, a Piper 2.5" rear box will mount to the Milltek 2.5" mid-section. With this information I spent some time on the Piper website and they list a 2.5" rear section, without a silencer and with a 5"x3" oval tailpipe. This is only intended to be a temporary measure until I can get it into the custom exhaust place for my 3" downswept tailpipe section in due course. It should be here within the week so I can get it on and the car ran up to see how it sounds. I'm expecting it to be similar to my Black vRS which had the unsilenced Ulta Tip exhaust on it and that was acceptable.
  23. I have signed up for this and if chosen for this, I'll bet it installed: https://www.indra.co.uk/v2h Don't need to buy any new car, my 2014 car works just fine. Indeed, currently fastest house-improvement to get pay-back is a home battery.

The engine cover Recall was not for your engine. The PHEV is like others when the DVLA Recall letter goes to Registered Keepers in that can get overlooked and not actioned. At least you car was in at a Main Dealers and any Recalls or Recalls actions should be identified. That VIN Checker has been hopeless over the years in that actual 'Safety Critical Recalls' sometimes do not come up.

Nope, not seen either of those. It may be that was sent to the lease company. I got my car in May 2021. This was only booked in with a Škoda dealer once I had the issue with the software. Last time it was in at a Škoda dealer before this was October last year. EDIT: Just checked on the Škoda website and there are no active recalls for my vehicle.

Mine is just out from the dealers. I had the "Emergency SOS" message come up and loss of Infotainment. I had to wait 3 weeks for a booking slot for the dealer to do it, but they managed to get it all done in the day. They had to do two software updates. One for the Emergency SOS alarm, and the other for the infotainment system failure. At least it's all working again. This was probably made worse by the fact that mine is a company car, and the lease company don't use Škoda dealers, but Bosch authorised garages. They are not able to update the firmware, and probably don't get any information on necessary updates, so it never gets done. Something I will take up with the lease company.
  27. It does if they are not tapped all the way through or are done with a taper tap, both accepted practice to minimise machining costs.

No need to apologise - you are 100% correct in all of those aspects! 😉 *Looks at last tyre bill as tears fall down his face...* 😅
  29. About the only picture I've seen after a quick google is this for the clutch pedal, no idea if it's LHD or RHD:
  30. It does sound like they've messed up the FeC codes on the headunit whilst doing the key coding They should be able to fix it pretty easily once connected to their diagnostic machine.
  31. Comparing the allowing for inflation price I paid for a new Fabia in 2005 with a similar spec Fabia now against the same comparison for a Polo shows that the 'no brainer' choice is no longer the Fabia.
  32. The holes go all the way through the carrier so it doesn't matter if the new bolts are a bit over.
  33. It's all the same parts whether it's discs or drums on the back. Really easy job to change, just make sure you have the right socket for the hub nut. Once the nut is off, the hub will most likely come off in your hand. The torque setting according to my manual is 70Nm +30 degrees.
  34. The outside of this is more or less back together now. Fogs aren't plugged in but they're bust anyway. Few other odds and ends need sorting, big one being an interior. Engine runs very well, very smoky on pulls, whether that'll clear out or not I'm not entirely sure. I think I may try for mot on this, beat on it through the winter. Would be nice to have a spare car for a while. Also, I might have another car coming my way, a non-skoda project. Not a big project by any stretch but I wanted to see the vrs "done" before I get this new car.
  35. I only do about 3k a year so don’t listen to me for a long term review 😬 My friends probably covered about 5k since May and recently went to Wales on what he called rough roads, when he got back is when he said how much of a difference the 5 and 6 is
  36. That’s possible, I doubt I’ve put more than 1k on them since sometime in May so time will tell but so far so good These are EV rated so I’d like to think they’ll stay quiet
  37. Pay the small sum required to stick it in the classified section.
  38. That's me just had both sides of driveshaft changed. Got Napa make installed. I just thought I'd let you all know that this has resolved my issue. No more rattle and knocking and squealing noise. Thanks to all members on this forum who has helped me.. 😊😊
  39. skoda sales aren't droppig because of advertising budget its because the value is no longer in them as new cars - pricing over here is getting pretty close to vw / audi money for similar platformed cars, and people will buy the based spec "premium brand" if there isnt much extra outlay for a perceived better quality vehicle (badge snobbery)

Sorry guys it was not a slight on the 19s as I do agree that they car looks better on them. I'm just of an age where I prefer the compromise the 18s offer from ride, road noise and a cost perspective.
  41. 1 point
😅 I don't think any of the Mk3 Octavia trim levels between 2014-2018 could be accused of having a 'luxurious ride', given the standard wallowy suspension springs, dampers, bushes, ARBs, and generally lesser quality parts than its higher marque brethren (VW / Audi etc). If you get the VRS, the spring rates and dampers are naturally stiffer - so you are natively 'compromising' (some might say 'improving') the ride quality / 'luxuriousness' in favour of improved handling over the standard car. But I agree, if you are more likely to notice the Noise / Vibration / Harshness (NVH) of larger diameter wheels or have a bit of a 'princess-and-the-pea' rear 😜, then upgrading to "19s alone may not be for everyone. And as @Stoofarightly points out, considerations need to be made like the fact that tyres are typically more expensive (especially if you opt for 235s rather than the standard 225s. Which you should, if you like to keep your alloys further more protected from kerbs).
  42. Fyi folks, I initially used the WD40 Silicon spray on the bush marked 2 but it didn't stop the squeaking. When I sprayed on the Bush marked 1 on both sides the noise disappeared. It's couple of days now and I drove a lot over the weekend too and there's been absolutely no noise or sound again. Hopefully this lasts a couple of months.
  43. Bit late on this thread but this is not "casting flash", they are firing cracks or heat shock cracks which are usually caused by molten metal being poured into an unheated or unevenly heated mold. Here's a link to a full explanation: https://www.giessereilexikon.com/en/foundry-lexicon/Encyclopedia/show/firing-cracks-4794/?cHash=8f9240aecbfc9fac9c45c28366397420

No pics but IMO the Xtreme’s look better in black, rather than anthracite.
  45. Hi.....thanks for that, I have sorted it out now. My taxi licencing authority have let me just replace the 2 up and down windows on the back doors without replacing the vents and quarters and rear screen. It cost me £236 which I was happy paying. To replace all 7 peices of glass would of been £1700 which was a bit cheaper than SKODA who quoted £3000. Cheers Tony
